THANKS TO ANDREW FOR MAKING THE INTRO SONG. (soundcloud.com / andoryukesuta)@andoryukesuta A US research station, Antarctica, early-winter 1982. The base is suddenly buzzed by a helicopter from the nearby Norwegian research station. They are trying to kill a dog that has escaped from their base. After the destruction of the Norwegian chopper the members of the US team fly to the Norwegian base, only to discover them all dead or missing. They do find the remains of a strange creature the Norwegians burned. The Americans take it to their base and deduce that it is an alien life form. After a while it is apparent that the alien can take over and assimilate into other life forms, including humans, and can spread like a virus. This means that anyone at the base could be inhabited by The Thing, and tensions escalate. In Antarctica, a Norwegian helicopter pursues a sled dog to an American research station. The Americans witness the passenger accidentally blow up the helicopter and himself. The pilot fires a rifle and shouts at the Americans, but they cannot understand him and he is shot dead in self-defense by station commander, Garry. The American helicopter pilot, R.J. MacReady, and Dr. Copper leave to investigate the Norwegian base. Among the charred ruins and frozen corpses, they find the burnt corpse of a malformed humanoid, which they transfer to the American station. Their biologist, Blair, autopsies the remains and finds a normal set of human organs. Clark kennels the sled dog, and it soon metamorphoses and absorbs several of the station dogs. This disturbance alerts the team, and Childs uses a flamethrower to incinerate the creature. Blair autopsies the Dog-Thing and surmises it is an organism that can perfectly imitate other life-forms. Data recovered from the Norwegian base leads the Americans to a large excavation site containing a partially buried alien spacecraft, which Norris estimates has been buried for over a hundred thousand years, and a smaller, human-sized dig site. Blair grows paranoid after running a computer simulation that indicates the creature could assimilate all life on Earth in a matter of years. The station implements controls to reduce the risk of assimilation. The remains of the malformed humanoid assimilate an isolated Bennings, but Windows interrupts the process and MacReady burns the Bennings-Thing. The team also imprisons Blair in a tool shed after he sabotages all the vehicles, kills the remaining sled dogs, and destroys the radio to prevent escape. Copper suggests testing for infection by comparing the crew's blood against uncontaminated blood held in storage, but after learning the blood stores have been destroyed, the men lose faith in Garry's leadership, and MacReady takes command. He, Windows and Nauls find Fuchs's burnt corpse and surmise he committed suicide to avoid assimilation. Windows returns to base while MacReady and Nauls investigate MacReady's shack. During their return, Nauls abandons MacReady in a snowstorm, believing he has been assimilated after finding his torn clothes in the shack.

Bennings bingo?

Todd and I's UX careers intersected back in the early days of my time at Blink. He always brought a smile to everyone in the office while also delivering great design work for our clients. I was thrilled to have Todd on the podcast because I knew our talk would be filled with some great insights and lots of laughs. He did not disappoint. In our conversation Todd talks about his cross-country UX journey, developing skills and relationships through consultancy work, and ultimately shifting to in-house design. Todd is another guest to bring up the importance of and the impact of community in UX. Hey Gang! Great moments. Are Born. From Great Opportunity. Oh wait that's that other movie. This one is the 1982 classic The Thing starring Kurt Russell. Bri loves this movie so much he didn't even ask Chris or Jer how they're doing. For the record, Chris is doing good as usual, Jer couldn't be reached to confirm but is likely doing "terrible". Things discussed: Kurt Russell almost didn't star in this movie; we talk the score, the unused score, and The Hateful Eight; Roger Ebert; Dean Cundey; John Carpenter; Bennings original death and why they changed it; some side talk about Castle Rock and Fargo the FX Series. Also, a brief retrospective to when Jer was wrong. Please Forgive This is a Film Podcast. About Films. Check us out at http://pleaseforgivethis.com
Today’s guest is renaissance woman Kemi Bennings, owner of Food For Thought Cafe in Atlanta. This summer, I stopped by her pop up to try one of her carrot dogs. Now at first I was skeptical but in the end she had me wishing I got the recipe! Kemi is a powerhouse in her own right. A creative badass in her own words. Today she shares with me the twists and turns her life took to get her to cooking for legends such as Cicely Tyson and the late Dr. Maya Angelou and all the amazing work she has in the mix right now
Canucks GM Jim Benning discusses the signing of defenceman Quinn Hughes, suggesting Hughes is "a transitional, offensive defenceman" and getting him games will help the adjustment. Bennings says Hughes won't play until fully healthy, after blocking a shot this past weekend
Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective
Robert and I get into the John Carpenter science-fiction horror set in Antarctica where you don't know who you can trust, or even if you can trust yourself, The Thing! We talk about the moral dilemma presented the characters who seemingly must choose between murdering their fellows or allowing a widespread epidemic that would wipe out humanity in short order. We get into all sorts of nitty-gritty and we wind our way as far South as you can go. Join us next week for “V is for Vendetta”! Show notes at: http://www.actualanarchy.com/100 Presented by www.ActualAnarchy.com Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film. The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film. We publish at least once per week; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics) and have guests. SUBSCRIBE, RATE AND REVIEW ON APPLE PODCASTS (or iTUNES)
Jason Botchford says that while there have been some good things which have happened under Bennings watch there have also been a lot of mis-steps and he worries the Canucks will simply stay on the same treadmill which has taken them to the bottom of the NHL standings.

Having It ALL: Conversations about living an Abundant Loving Life
I have the pleasure of knowing some pretty amazing people where I live in Atlanta, and my guest today is one of them. Her name is Kemi Bennings, and the best way to describe her is as a creative, loving, spiritual being who is always learning and always growing. Kemi is a woman of many gifts and has worn many hats over the years: writer, poet, producer, lifecoach, nurse, entrepreneur, promoter, curator …. Kemi truly is an artist and is involved in any and all things artistic. But at her core, Kemi is a vessel testing the bounds of what it looks like to be a spiritual being having a human experience. In this episode we talk about gifts, fear, and what it means to fully tap into the creator in each of us. What you'll learn in this episode: The question that continues to ignite Kemi's fire The meaning of "follow the arrows" Some amazing original poetry written and performed by Kemi
