Running Away With The Oppressed Israelites. Moses truly rose to God's command to lead His oppressed people out of Egypt and towards the promised land. Many were the ups and downs along the way, we'll hear about a few today, in fact there are more than enough to fill a future week of devotions should anyone feel they might like to tackle these by going further into the book of Exodus!
Running Away From Pharaoh If you were with me yesterday you'll recall Moses, an Israelite in Egypt who had close contact with the despotic ruler of the powerful land of Egypt, had been tasked by God to lead the oppressed Hebrews away from Egypt a long, long way to safety and freedom in a different land. Pharaoh, understandably, wasn't too keen on the idea of losing his slave labour force. However, after some further discussion with God Moses does decide to obey this command. Moses Not Running Away Today we'll think about three periods in his life when Moses did not run away. Moses experiences a period of stability and domesticity.
Moses Running Away From MurderBy the time we meet Moses today he is a grown man having been brought up and educated by Pharaoh's daughter in the Egyptian Court.
Babies Can't RunBefore we hear today's reading from the book of Exodus, the 2nd book in the OT, I'd like to put the Moses story into context. A few generations earlier Joseph, one of Abrahams descendants had been forced to move from his family home in Canaan on the eastern Mediterranean coast to Egypt some 300 miles away where he rose to become second in command under the then Pharaoh. Because of a dreadful famine that Pharaoh agreed to Joseph's request for his extended family to move to Goshen in Egypt. The Israelites/Hebrews moved, settled and their numbers grew. Over time a new Pharaoh became seriously worried by their sheer numbers and used them as forced labourers and treated them increasingly harshly.
This week we are thinking about Sabbath or Sabbat. Yesterday we reflected on the Creation story from Genesis 1 and 2. We were able to picture God as a worker but also one that took time out from His work to rest. Today we are thinking about Sabbath as Commandment.
MosesContinuing our week spent with some OT characters who, in some way, ran or hid away. Elijah, fleeing for his life, overwhelmed – needing God's gentleness and refreshing. Yesterday, Jonah – who professed a belief in a God of the seas and land, trying to outrun God by going in the opposite direction to a clear command. Today – we are going to focus on an early story of Moses.
Welcome to another week of devotions. Over the next five days we are going to be thinking about friendship. Firstly, the friendship between God and Moses; secondly, a model of loyal and costly friendship with David and Jonathan; thirdly, Jesus and His friends; fourthly, church as a community of friends; and lastly, friendship with the world.
JANUARY 2023| INTENTIONAL PRAISE| UNDERSTANDING PRAISE| CTY'23| CHIMDI OHAHUNA. Bible Readings: Exodus 20: 2-3; Matthew 22:27; Deuteronomy 6:5. If our praise is what God requires to come through for us, would God perform based on your praise? God does all He does for us based on His benevolence. Praise to God should be because of all God has done in the realms of the spiritual, not what we see manifest physically. In praises to God, we must understand that there are several songs and hymns, and when we seek to praise God ONLY songs and hymns of praise are to be employed. Listen to the full teaching now to understand the diversity in songs & hymns, what are songs and hymns, and how we can express strong love and respect towards God.
