Greg Cypher & Def Dee - "Right On (feat. 10isee Williams)" from the 2021 album Third Stone on Nine Six Intl. For over a decade Greg Cypher climbed the ranks of Seattle hip hop as one-half of Kung Foo Grip alongside fellow rapper Eff Is H. Never disappointing with their live show, the duo concocted a hip hop, trap rap, and punk cocktail that saw them looking beyond a single genre for influences. Everyone from Pink Floyd to Nirvana had a hand in shaping their sound. Since releasing their celebrated 2018 record 2KFG, it's been quiet on the KFG front. Cypher, on the other hand, has been busy releasing his debut solo material. In 2020, he dropped the vibey EP Homebass featuring contributions from Aaron King, Dex Amora, Rick Rude, and even Mr. Hentvii aka Eff is H himself. A year later, his debut album Third Stone was unveiled. A collaboration with producer Def Dee, the record once again sees a number of names hop on the mic over its seven tracks. Our Song of the Day, “Right On,” features the very clever yet possibly not yet recognizable name 10isee Williams. The Seattle-based artist joins Cypher on the loungey track for effortless flows about ignoring what others say and focusing on elevating yourself. On February 25th Cypher is throwing a cassette release/birthday show at Vermillion featuring performances by AJ Suede, Blake Anthony, Edibles, and Mile. Paperclips are an important, yet underappreciated tool of the modern workforce. With eleven billion paperclips manufactured yearly, ensuring their construction operates smoothly is a monumental task. But what happens when technical innovation surpasses regulation, and software is given total control? ~ I've always been a huge fan of the game "Universal Paperclips" so I figured an adaptation would be a fun project. This project turned out way better than I thought it would. Not only did Blake Anthony killed it with the narration, but I managed to rope my friend Spencer into creating an original score for the project. Everything fits together perfectly, I doubt I'll be surpassing this level of quality for some time. ~Credits~ Narrator: Blake Anthony Written by: Alec Preissler Audio Editing: Alec Preissler Album Art: Alec Preissler Music: Spencer Barrett
Grady & Kiddus - "The Sun (feat. Blake Anthony)" from the 2021 album Don't Think About Me Dying on Empty Planet. London-based producer and vocalist Kiddus was struggling with the death of a close friend when another friend, Seattle hip-hop producer Grady, stepped in with support. Together, they completed the new EP Don't Think About Me Dying. As Kiddus writes on Facebook: Last year I lost a close friend and writing songs seemed like a good, healthy way to process the grief, so I started pretty much immediately. After a week I had written pages and pages like a journal in this one note on my phone. None of it rhymed and a lot of it didn’t make sense, I didn’t know what I was trying to say. A week later to the day, Grady sent a pack of demos, but I still couldn’t write anything good. So I went back to that note in my phone to try and salvage a song from it. For whatever reason, with Grady’s production everything started making more sense, I moved shit around and rephrased things, and I turned the note into 3 songs about grieving. TBH I reckon Mason would think they’re shit, but I made them for me. Read the full post on KEXP.org Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donate See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to another adventure within the multiverse! It is officially November! Every Tuesday in November, we are sitting down with some fascinating creators to play a game unlike anything else we've ever done before. We're calling it, Nicolas Cage November. Each Tuesday we will be sitting down with a different creator and assigning them TEN of Nicolas Cage's films throughout his career. The guest will spin the wheel and whatever the wheel lands on is the movie we watch. For this episode, we're sitting down with youth pastor and musician, Blake Anthony. Blake put out his debut album in 2016. Ironicaly enough, he was a featured artist on one of our first episodes. We're sitting down to talk about the 2009 film, G-Force. Keep in mind that this is a movie that does exist. Plus this episode features the world premiere of Captain Nostalgia's side-project song, "Thunderstorm Society". Which features Blake on chorus and guitar. If you've seen G-Force, share what you love in the comments or on Twitter. Make sure you share your Nicolas Cage love with us as well. And more importantly, if you or someone you know is struggling with suicide, addiction, self-harm or depression - please free feel to reach out. There’s so much definition when asked what kind of music we listen to. There’s many that will say “I listen to just about anything” or will lay out a certain genre they prefer over others. However, not a lot of people consider that it was like to make these songs, where the passion comes from, or what it’s like living in the industry. Blake Anthony and DJ Grumble both have experiences that can contrast the others. Listen as they describe some of their feelings working with music on a daily basis to GR and the Big Homie, only on That’s What’s Up! .
