Jimmy “The Boogie Woogie Man” Valiant joins Paul and Kevin on the podcast and he started off with a bang! Jimmy was born in Tullahoma, TN and just turned 80 years old a couple of weeks ago. Before he could remember, his family moved to Hammond, IN where his father took a job as a millwright at a Ford plant. Jimmy's career in professional wrestling has taken him all over, but he has called Virginia home for the last thirty-one years. Jimmy played baseball and football growing up, but also started lifting weights and spending a lot of time in health clubs/gyms. Jimmy talked with Paul and Kevin about his training, mentors, jobs, raising a family and his wrestling bouts over the years. Jimmy discussed how he re-invented himself throughout his career and how he was the first to come out for a match to music. Jimmy talked about his wife Angel, how they met and their blended family. He finished by inviting all SFCOTU listeners to come meet him at Boogie's Wresting Camp and Hall of Fame in Shawsville, VA any Sunday at noon.

We have a very special show and a very special guest today. It's our first on-location recording and it's a big one. While going through Southwestern Virginia, I was able to stop and have a conversation with the legendary Hall of Famer, the Boogie Woogie Man, Handsome Jimmy Valiant.. We sat down ringside at Boogie's Wrestling Camp to have a chat about a lifetime in the wrestling business. We couldn't get to everything in his almost six decades career , but we talked about his early years in the business, who gave him the Jimmy Valiant name, working for Vince Senior in the WWWF, Dick the Bruiser in Indianapolis, his many years in both Memphis and the Carolinas and more. We also talk about his singing career and the three singles he recorded, including at the legendary Sun Records. There's plenty more but that's a sampling of our chat. Thanks again to Jimmy for his hospitality. And if you're in the area, make sure to come to Boogie's Wrestling Camp on Sunady afternoon June 5th for the annual Valiant Cup Battle Royal. You can get more information at https://jimmyvaliant.weebly.com. Note: we recorded this on my phone so the sound quality is not as great as usual. Also, about halfway through the interview, Jimmy starts calling me Chris. I wasn't going to stop Handsome in the middle of story to correct him, so you just go with the flow. Thanks for listening and we hope you enjoy the show.

Born in Tennessee, Jimmy Valiant started wrestling in 1964 as Big Jim Valen, which morphed into Handsome Jimmy Valiant when he wrestled for the World Wide Wrestling Federation in the 1970s. He soon formed a dominant tag team with his "brother," Johnny Valiant. One of the dominant wrestlers in Memphis, Valiant feuded with the likes of Jerry Lawler and even recorded a song, "The Ballad of Handsome Jimmy." In the 1980s, Valiant morphed once again into "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant. Today, Valiant runs Boogie's Wrestling Camp in Shawsville, Virginia.

Jimmy was first to enter the sports-entertainment world, debuting in 1964 after training with fellow Hall of Famer Verne Gagne. Johnny followed soon after in 1967, and together they won several regional tag team championships. The Valiants entered WWE in the early 1970s, and at times they seemed unbeatable. Together, the pair captured the World Tag Team Championship in 1974 and held them for just over a year. Later, a third brother, "Gentleman" Jerry, joined them, teaming with Johnny to once again win the World Tag Team Championship in 1979. The Valiants were just one of the dozen tag teams that fellow 1996 Hall of Fame inductee Captain Lou Albano guided to the World Tag Team Championship in his career. Jimmy is also an accomplished author of his own Autobiography entitled, "WOO....MERCY DADDY! Welcome to my world the Jimmy Valiant story.
