Solénoïde (17.08.2020) - Sous la bannière du Chicago Underground Duo, le percussionniste Chad Taylor et le cornettiste Rob Mazurek nous offrent ‘Locus’, leur 8e opus qui sonne comme un mix singulièrement exigeant d'electronica, de free-jazz et d'afro-beat. Entre ambition filmique et rock psychédélique, le road-movie du quatuor Limousine nous emmènera au Nord-Est de la Thaïlande à la découverte de la musique du Molam, le blues du Laos. Ensuite, le multi-instrumentiste algérien Mehdi Alouane conciliera instruments traditionnels (oud, qanum, doudouk) et arrangements modernes pour dérouler de lumineuses plages épiques au mysticisme planant. Enfin, Dub Spencer and Trance Hill vous embarquera dans une excursion enivrante pour un tribute très particulier de William S. Burroughs.

En primer lugar, destacamos el álbum 2020 de Chicago Underground Quartet, el primero que edita esta alineación del ensamble en 19 años, pues es el sucesor del disco homónimo de 2001. Titulado “Good Days”, el disco fue lanzado por el sello Astral Spirits el pasado 27 de marzo y trae a la banda de regreso con el siguiente personal: Rob Mazurek (Exploding Star Orchestra) en trompeta piccolo, electrónicos y campanas, Chad Taylor en batería y percusión, Jeff Parker (Tortoise) en guitarra eléctrica y, como nuevo integrante, al joven músico afroamericano Josh Johnson en bajo sintetizado, órgano y piano. En la parte final del programa, viajamos algunos años al pasado en la historia este colectivo variable, para escucharlos como Chicago Underground Duo, específicamente con material de su disco “Locus”, publicado en 2014 por el sello Northern-Spy.
