A (relatively) in-depth analysis of American singer, songwriter, composer, and actor Isaac Hayes Jr. in (just over) forty five minutes - this is the longest Low-Noise episode to date, which seems rather fitting as Hayes is known for his lengthy musical compositions. As a successful in-house songwriter, session musician and producer, Hayes was one of the creative forces behind Stax Records in the 1960s. With his working partner David Porter he wrote the Sam & Dave hit Soul Man, widely considered to be one of the most influential songs of all time. Hayes also had a successful solo career - he released several successful albums such as Hot Buttered Soul (1969) and Black Moses (1971). Hayes also worked as a film composer. In 1997 Hayes was introduced to a new generation of fans when he provided the voice for the character of 'Chef' in the animated TV series South Park. The show ran until 2006.In this episode I am in discussion with Bhoke.Mathew Woodallhttps://www.facebook.com/share/1F15mx4ea3/https://buymeacoffee.com/lownoiseWhy buy me a coffee?Low Noise is proudly ad-free.
(superfly.fm)
On this week's show, we celebrate the release of Bruce Springsteen's Tracks II: The Lost Albums box set with our Lost Albums Mix Tape. All this & much, much less! Debts No Honest Man Can Pay is a podcast that thinks it's a radio show...because it used to be one. The show started in 2003 at WHFR-FM (Dearborn, MI), moved to WGWG-FM (Boiling Springs, NC) in 2006 & Plaza Midwood Community Radio (Charlotte, NC) in 2012, with a brief pit-stop at WLFM-FM (Appleton, WI) in 2004. It phoenixed into a podcast in 2020, thanks to the fine and fabulously furious folks at NRM Streamcast.
On A Trip To The Ether" veröffentlicht.
BFM Vinyl Librarian & Archivist Chris Forster sits in for Blind Mango Chutney this week. Chris steps on the gas & the show takes a left-turn detour as Chris stages a Jazz-infused Trip Hop, Downtemp, Show takeover. DJ Sassy joins in a supporting role - & also hosts this week's Jazz Gig Guide, & Vinyl Fair Guide. Throw-back electronica vibes are well received by listeners — who are hot with feedback on ye olde text machine — as the classic cuts keep rollin... Massive thanks going out to our Jazz Show sponsors — the fine eatery San Ray on Ponsonby Road. Big congrats to our show winner Andrea, who was lucky enough to win this week's generous San Ray 'Breakfast Card' giveaway prize. Cheers to Miss Dom (Producer).

Send us a textIf you're looking for a sonic palette cleanser from the mundane, Venamoris' new album To Cross or To Burn is the aural experience you didn't know you needed. Out now via Ipecac Recordings, the album is a seductive, shadowy, and soul-baring effort from the duo of Paula and Dave Lombardo. Yes, that Dave Lombardo—drum god behind Slayer, Mr. Bungle, Misfits, Dead Cross and countless other boundary-pushing projects. But this isn't thrash, metal, or hardcore. Instead, it's something far more intimate and atmospheric—part gothic lullaby, part cinematic fever dream, and entirely its own thing.Think: a darker, stranger Portishead raised on vintage synthesizers and heartbreak. And you're only halfway there.Venamoris, a name derived from the Latin vena amoris ("vein of love"), is a reflection of the real-life partnership between Dave and Paula Lombardo. The musical bond they've cultivated runs just as deep. Paula's roots include everything from backing up Las Vegas legends like Wayne Newton to chasing a singer-songwriter dream in Nashville. With this project, she brings a magnetic presence—equal parts elegance and eerie introspection—on vocals, piano, and synths. Every lyric feels lived-in; every melody, emotionally raw.Engineered and produced by Dave Lombardo, mixed by David A. Lombardo, and mastered by the acclaimed Golden Mastering team, To Cross or To Burn shimmers with sonic depth. Every note and nuance is deliberate, yet full of danger. The Lombardos handle all instrumentation themselves, with Paula on vocals and synths and Dave handling drums, guitars, and more. The album also features contributions from a formidable group of guest musicians, including:Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk) – contrabass on “Stay With Me”Ra Diaz (Suicidal Tendencies, KORN) – bass on “Stain of Pain”Alex Skolnick (Testament) – guitar on “Stain of Pain” and “Burnt Paper”Gary Holt (Slayer, Exodus) – guitar on “Animal Magnetism”Each guest adds a unique brushstroke to the darkly emotional soundscape, enhancing but never overshadowing the central force: Paula's haunting voice and poetic songwriting. The album's opener, “Stay With Me,” is a cinematic dive into surrealist romance—starting in lo-fi crackle and ending in full digital immersion. "Holding On to Nothing" flexes Paula's lyrical teeth as she dissects betrayal with Ben Folds-style piano wrapped in Sabbath-inspired gloom.www.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Amine Laje is a multi faceted producer. In fact you might better know him as Romain Poncet or Traumer... Under this new moniker he is keen to explore some of his foremost influences, drawing upon inspiration from the heady days of Trip-Hop and channeling his production credentials into a new sound. For his first-ever published mix as Amine Laje, Romain Poncet crafts a deeply immersive journey through jazz-infused beats, melancholic textures, and raw, intuitive soundscapes. The mix showcases a lot of unreleased songs that were created for the restaurant Datsha in Paris, alongside some tracks from the eponymous album. Best enjoyed in a cozy setting, with warm lighting—let yourself get lost in the sound. This one goes deep.

On this week's show, we cellebrate the therapeutic nature of out-of-town rock shows with old friends, let there be rock with Drive-By Truckers, wake up to albums we slept on by Tuxedo and Chuck Prophet, and and spin fresh tracks from Parlor Greens, Waxahatchee & The Waterboys. All this & much, much less! Debts No Honest Man Can Pay is over 2 rock-solid hours of musical eclectica & other noodle stories.
On today's Indie Disco show lots of genre bending Trip Hop - French flavored Trip Hop curated special for longtime listener Nicholas in Philadelphia, Jazz Infused Down Beat, Big Beat, Underground Minimal Hip Hop, Four Tet Remixes of Doves and Madvillian and loads more.It doesn't matter what type of Trip Hop floats your boat, just as long as you sail- so close your eyes, wash your hands of the world for a moment and dance.XO to all the lovely Trans people who must feel under attack by this new retro backwards administration - who have as much love in their hearts as buried fossils on Mars- just know on this planet you are loved. Adam Hurrey is joined on the midweek Adjudication Panel by Nick Miller and, for his 250th Cliches appearance, David Walker. On the agenda: Newcastle having “a little toe” in the Carabao Cup final, an updated cast list for the Roy Keane/Mick McCarthy film, whether a lob could ever "rattle the crossbar", a Liam Delap penalty that sounds like late-90s trip-hop, a defence of Ferencvaros' credentials as "giants”, some accidental footballspeak when switching broadband providers and much more. Meanwhile, the panel decide if West Ham's treatment of Julen Lopetegui reached the "shabby" threshold and whether a goalkeeper can be "tearing it up". Adam's book, Extra Time Beckons, Penalties Loom: How to Use (and Abuse) The Language of Football, is OUT NOW: https://geni.us/ExtraTimeBeckons Visit nordvpn.com/cliches to get four extra months on a two-year plan with NordVPN Learn more about your ad choices.
