We discuss the ITV (1992), BBC (2018), and Frank Tashlin (1965) screen adaptations of Agatha Christie's 'The ABC Murders'. An unusual plot for the mystery great, how have histories most lauded (and least) tweaked the plot for the moving image? From spellbinding performances by David Suchet, Donald Sumpter, and John Malkovich, to laughable replacement-by-buxom-blondes, you're spoiled for choice when it comes to the Queen of Crime. How can the various Poirots get to the bottom of this case, and who ebbs & flows along the way? We're also joined by Natalie Conyer and Chad Taylor, to talk about their contributions to the upcoming collection 'Dark Deeds Down Under 2', the second anthology edited by Craig Sisterson in Clan Destine Press' mission to render series characters in short story. Thank you to Clan Destine Press for providing copies of 'Dark Deeds Down Under' and its sequel, and their help in arranging our time with Natalie and Chad.

Prodigious drummer & composer Chad Taylor discusses his time spent playing alongside Pharaoh Sanders and Marc Ribot, cutting Sam Prekop's self-titled album, why Stereolab took Chicago Underground Duo on tour, and William Parker's admonition that "The music doesn't care whether you think it's good or bad."
Chad Taylor is the director of sales and marketing for Lake Mead, Mohave Adventures, and grew up on Lake Mead, when his dad was the general manager of Callville Bay Marina in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the United States, but is currently at historically low levels as the population in the southwest continues to grow and the region faces continued drought conditions. We talked about the changes in the lake levels, the ways his business is adapting, and his belief that humans will find a solution to this challenge, as we always do.

051: Avram FeferGood morning! This is Play It Like It’s Music. I’m Trevor, thanks for listening. On Wednesday August 12 of 2020 Music is not content, it’s connection.[photo by Rene Thomas]A while back (like 20 years or something back) I put on a joint birthday party with a good friend named Celine at a spot in Alphabet City. For the most part our two groups of friends mixed well, everybody was happy but Celine had cooler musician friends than I did. I spotted her out on the sidewalk talking to this crazy looking dude. Weird glasses, athletic energy, hair everywhere. I had to know this guy, I knew he was into some weird s**t… and sure enough he is. You’ll get to find out today as we spend some time with the very same man, Avram Fefer. He’s always up to some madness.[photo by Nina Roberts]I’ve seen this guy play his horn all over town, from the dustiest unknown free jazz improv spots to the Old Office at the Knit, burning it down at the coolest restaurants and even working with sculptors in high society art galleries. He always has amazing players in tow as well with a list of collaborators to make even the most jaded snob take notice. We’ve been friends for a while and I remember visiting him at his old walkup on Ludlow St for years before he moved into my old neighborhood, Prospect Heights. Now what is it about Avram? Folks on here are into all kinds of music, some of us are focused on mental and technical aspects, others dwell in the emotional areas of great melody and songwriting, Some people are about the message, others all about that booty. We take all kinds. But when you witness a performance that just owns on every level those distinctions just fly out the window. You see someone who commits and delivers, leaving it all on the bandstand and making sure the folks in the room know that a musical animal has wandered through your life. Avram is one of those cats. He takes full possession of the proceedings with full physicality, melody, heart and sophistication. I’ve seen the guy perform dozens of times and he never disappoints. Music is a contact sport to people like Avram and I’m very glad to bring him to you today. His latest album TESTAMENT has received "Best Albums of 2019" honors from Rolling Stone, NPR, Downbeat, Bandcamp, Cadence, Jazz Magazine. It features Marc Ribot, Eric Revis and Chad Taylor. What's up everyone, happy Monday! Today in studio we've got an incredible person that is giving us a real look behind the curtain at the COVID-19 crisis. Chad Taylor is a Hempfield native currently working as an RN in Pittsburgh. Months ago he began a fundraiser to collect money and supplies for medical staff in need in New York City. Not only did he donate a bunch of money and food, but he also put his skills to use and worked directly in the COVID-19 wing of NYU Langone Hospital. We're talking 4 12 hour shifts for 8 weeks straight directly in the line of fire... I can't think of anything more incredibly selfless than that. It's good to have Chad home safe and if you'd like to keep up with the incredible things that he's doing, check him out on FB at the link below... He said that he's not done yet and that he is brainstorming on how he can help even more. So please check him out on FB and give him your support! https://www.facebook.com/chadwick.taylor.56 Also, please give this a share... with all of the negativity out there right now, we all need a positive story! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

** The audio is a little rough due to circumstances** Last week we got the opportunity to speak to a goddamn superhero. Yep, a real one. Chad Taylor is a Pittsburgh nurse (Hempfield native) who took a relief position in NYC, the epicenter of the virus in the whole country for the next 8 weeks. He will be lending his expertise and relief to the thousands of healthcare workers that are desperately seeking a much-needed rest. This is something that is just absolutely incredible to me, the selflessness that chad and millions of other healthcare workers in the world are showing is truly a gift to us all. This is a subject that I take very seriously, I have strong opinions about how I think this should be handled in the safest way possible. While most people this week are on Facebook arguing whether to ease the lock-down order, people like Chad are out there putting their lives at risk to help the people who got infected. If the experts are saying stay home and keep social distancing, you owe it to these incredibly brave people to listen. Please follow and support Chad in his journey at the link below. Send him an encouraging message every once in a while or ask how you can donate to his fundraiser to support the healthcare workers of NYC. They need it. https://www.facebook.com/chadwick.taylor.56 Also, don't forget to check us out online too for some behind the scenes photos in studio and video on our youtube channel... www.thelocal724.com https://www.facebook.com/thelocal724 https://www.instagram.com/thelocal724 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaud4bP5jO0paZqNqnhByOQ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
