Good morning from Pharma Daily: the podcast that brings you the most important developments in the pharmaceutical and biotech world. Today, we're diving into a series of transformative events reshaping the industry landscape, from scientific breakthroughs to regulatory shifts and strategic corporate maneuvers.Let's start with Insmed's Brinsupri, a newly approved respiratory therapy that has captured attention with its projected $1 billion in sales by 2026. This ambitious forecast is grounded in Brinsupri's robust clinical efficacy and the increasing demand for innovative respiratory treatments. This development reflects a broader industry trend where targeted therapies are not only improving patient outcomes but also driving significant revenue growth. As respiratory conditions continue to be a major health challenge globally, the success of therapies like Brinsupri underscores the potential for innovation to meet these critical needs. In parallel, Merck is working strategically with its RSV antibody, Enflonsia, seeking a second-season approval to bolster its competitive stance against Sanofi and AstraZeneca's Beyfortus. The race in infant RSV prevention is intense as companies vie to establish dominance in this crucial segment of infectious disease management. Merck's efforts highlight the broader push within the industry to develop preventive measures that could significantly alter public health landscapes by reducing the incidence of severe respiratory illnesses in vulnerable populations.Meanwhile, regulatory scrutiny remains a constant for pharmaceutical companies. The FDA's recent review of Johnson & Johnson's advertising for Tremfya, targeting ulcerative colitis, emphasizes the agency's commitment to ensuring that efficacy claims are both truthful and transparent. This serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining regulatory compliance and ethical advertising practices within the industry—a critical aspect as companies navigate complex marketing landscapes while ensuring patient trust.Shifts in leadership within key health organizations are also noteworthy. Jay Bhattacharya stepping into the role of acting CDC chief after Jim O'Neill's departure could signal changes in public health policy and research priorities. Such transitions can have profound effects on how emerging health challenges are addressed, potentially influencing everything from vaccine distribution strategies to research funding allocations. As we turn to policy discussions, President Donald Trump's most favored nation drug pricing proposal continues to stir debate. This initiative aims to lower drug prices by benchmarking them against international rates, but it faces resistance from free-market advocates who argue it could stifle pharmaceutical innovation. The ongoing discussion around drug pricing reform is pivotal, as it impacts both patient access to medications and the incentives for companies to invest in new drug development.Strategic realignments in the contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) sector are also making headlines. Recipharm's sale of its Israeli API plant to Scinai Immunotherapeutics, alongside a new CDMO partnership, illustrates how companies are optimizing resources to focus on core competencies and expand service offerings. This strategic shift highlights the dynamic nature of CDMOs as they adapt to changing market demands and technological advancements. In Alzheimer's research, there's promising news with a study suggesting that a blood test could predict when symptoms will appear, representing a significant leap forward in early diagnosis and intervention strategies. These advancements offer hope for altering the treatment landscape of neurodegenerative diseases through timely therapeutic interventions that could improve quality of life for patients. However, challenges remain as seen with Johnson & Johnson pausing enrollment in itsSupport the show

Good morning from Pharma Daily: the podcast that brings you the most important developments in the pharmaceutical and biotech world. Today, we delve into a series of significant events and decisions in the industry that are shaping the path forward for drug development and patient care. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), an agency often at the center of pharmaceutical innovation and scrutiny, has recently made several noteworthy decisions. These decisions not only point to the ongoing regulatory challenges but also highlight scientific advancements within the field. One of the key updates involves the FDA's decision to reject Disc's drug bitopertin, which was intended for the treatment of erythropoietic protoporphyria, a rare blood disease. Despite receiving a national priority voucher for expedited review, the FDA ultimately concluded that the clinical data did not sufficiently support regulatory approval. This decision underscores the FDA's commitment to maintaining rigorous standards even when expedited reviews are in play, emphasizing the necessity of robust clinical evidence for approval.Adding complexity to this situation is the internal dynamics within the FDA itself. Richard Pazdur, a long-standing official at the agency, recently stepped down, revealing disagreements with Commissioner Marty Makary over reducing the number of clinical trials required for new drug applications. Pazdur's departure after an influential 26-year tenure highlights ongoing debates within regulatory bodies on how to balance innovative approval pathways with ensuring safety and efficacy data.In another notable development, Moderna faced setbacks with its mRNA-1010 flu vaccine as the FDA declined to review it. This decision leaves American consumers without access to potentially more effective mRNA-based flu vaccines—a technology embraced by other countries for influenza treatment. This situation points to possible missed opportunities in leveraging cutting-edge vaccine technologies domestically, showcasing both the promise and regulatory complexities surrounding mRNA technology. These regulatory challenges unfold amid leadership changes and strategic shifts within health agencies. For instance, Jim O'Neill's departure from his role as acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention following Susan Monarez's abrupt ouster illustrates how leadership turbulence can impact policy consistency and strategic direction, potentially affecting how new health initiatives are prioritized and implemented.Meanwhile, companies like Vertex and CRISPR Therapeutics are ambitiously advancing gene therapy solutions such as Casgevy, signaling a broader trend towards personalized medicine and advanced biotechnological approaches. These efforts promise transformative impacts on patient care and reflect an industry-wide move towards precision medicine.Eli Lilly's substantial investment in orforglipron stock ahead of its anticipated approval further indicates confidence in their product pipeline amidst growing competition from Novo Nordisk's Wegovy pill abroad. This competitive landscape highlights increasing interest and investment in innovative treatments for metabolic diseases.Overall, these developments illustrate a dynamic interplay between scientific innovation, regulatory scrutiny, and strategic corporate maneuvers that shape healthcare's future. As companies push technological boundaries, regulators face ongoing challenges in adapting frameworks that ensure patient safety while fostering innovation. The outcomes of these processes will significantly influence not only patient access to cutting-edge therapies but also set precedents for future drug development and approval pathways. As these trends unfold, stakeholders across the industry must remain agile, informed, and collaborative to navigate this evolving landscape effectively.Looking back at 2025, it was a tSupport the show

In this episode of Leadership Story Talks, Jerome Deroy and Julienne Ryan sit down with Jim O'Gorman to explore how formative leadership experiences—both painful and inspiring—shape the way we show up for others at work.Jim opens with a candid story from early in his career: working for a deeply toxic boss and the toll it took on his confidence, health, and sense of self. That experience became a defining catalyst, ultimately guiding him toward a career dedicated to people strategy, trust, and humane leadership. From there, the conversation moves into Jim's time on the Obama campaign, where he witnessed firsthand the power of authentic storytelling—not as persuasion, but as connection. That experience continues to influence how he thinks about leadership, values, and culture today. As Chief People Officer at Included Health, Jim shares how storytelling, vulnerability, and values-based decision-making aren't “nice to haves,” but core leadership competencies—especially when trust, safety, and belonging are on the line. He also offers a thoughtful perspective on remote work, arguing that there is no universal answer—only alignment between values, mission, and how work actually gets done. This episode is a grounded, practical exploration of what it really means to lead with authenticity—and why stories remain one of the most powerful tools leaders have to create trust, navigate complexity, and raise the standard for how people experience work. You'll Hear:Why a “terrible boss” can become a powerful leadership teacherHow authentic storytelling builds trust, safety, and belonging on teamsWhat Jim learned about leadership and connection on the Obama campaignWhy values—not perks—are what truly retain peopleHow Included Health aligns mission, culture, and people strategyA clear-eyed take on remote work, trust, and intentional connectionWhy leaders must go first when it comes to vulnerability and honestyHow storytelling can restore healthier debate and discourse at workResources & LinksConnect with Jim O'Gorman on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jim-o-gorman-0b32278/Learn more about Included Health: https://includedhealth.com/Explore more episodes and resources at: https://narativ.com/podcastNarativ's online course in partnership with New Mexico State University Global Campus:Lead With Your Story (self-paced, on-demand course)Podcast listeners get 25% off - Use code NARATIV → Register Here Learn more about how to leverage Narativ's storytelling method for your pitch and sales team: Download our free e-book, or you're welcome to schedule a free 15-minute call with Jerome. The Power of Mentorship From Military to Corporate America: Leadership Lessons in From A Supply Chain Leader, Jim O'Rourke Transitioning from military service to corporate America isn't just about landing a job, it's about preparing for a completely different operating environment. In our latest podcast episode, Cameron-Brooks alum Jim O'Rourke shares how humility, mentorship, and leadership frameworks helped him build a successful supply chain career after the military. Why Military Transition Requires More Than a Resume Most officers underestimate what it takes to succeed in corporate America."Humility is important in transitioning," Jim explains. Coming from the military, where rank and experience are clear, the corporate world requires a different approach. You're no longer the expert. You're the learner. This mindset shift is critical for officers moving into leadership-intensive roles like supply chain management, operations, or manufacturing—where understanding team dynamics and business processes matters as much as decision-making ability. The Role of Mentorship in Career Development One of the most valuable aspects of Jim's transition was mentorship. But not just any mentorship: the kind that provides a "safe harbor for growth" and challenges your thinking. "Mentoring is a safe harbor for growth," Jim notes. In corporate America, you need people who can help you navigate unwritten rules, decode organizational dynamics, and develop the critical thinking skills that separate good leaders from great ones. Cameron-Brooks provides this structured mentorship during the transition process. What about after the transition? According to Jim, finding mentors within your company accelerates your career development long-term. Understanding Supply Chain: More Than Logistics For officers considering supply chain roles, Jim breaks down what this actually means. It's not just moving products. It requires leadership-intensive work in addition to the following: - Managing across operations: Managing cross-functional teams across manufacturing, distribution, and planning - Process optimization: Understanding the COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) ladder and how every decision impacts profitability - Strategic thinking: Balancing production needs, customer demands, and financial constraints "Clarity of purpose helps teams succeed," Jim emphasizes. In supply chain, that clarity comes from understanding how your decisions ripple through the entire organization. What Makes Cameron-Brooks Candidates Different In addition to his expertise in supply chain, he has been on the hiring side. When asked what differentiates Cameron-Brooks candidates, Jim pointed to two qualities: 1. Genuine preparation: They've done the work to understand industries, roles, and companies before interviews 2. Intellectual curiosity: They ask better questions because they've been coached to think critically about fit "Cameron Brooks candidates are well-prepared and genuine in their approach," he observes. They're not just looking for any job...they're looking for the right career trajectory. The Importance of Lifelong Learning Jim's final piece of advice? Never stop learning. Whether it's leadership books, industry podcasts, or formal training, lifelong learning is crucial for career advancement. The military teaches you to be adaptable. Corporate America rewards those who continuously evolve. Ready to Start Your Transition? If you're a company-grade or field-grade officer exploring what's next, Jim's story shows what's possible with the right preparation, humility, and mentorship. Another football team was also streaking… this one the NFL's Baltimore Colts who after a 1-4 start were in the midst of a 9-game winning streak led by young QB Bert Jones. The good news is that run got them into the playoffs. The bad news… it was in Pittsburgh. And the Steelers took care of business en route to their 2nd straight Super Bowl title. Pittsburgh writer Jim O'Brien has written over 30 books in his Pittsburgh Proud series many featuring the Steelers dynasty that began in 1974 and continued through the end of the decade. Franco Harris, Andy Russell, Rocky Bleier, Jack Lambert and more often were the subjects of O'Brien's writings and he knows that team as well as anyone. But Jim isn't relegated to just football. The founding editor of Street and Smith's Basketball Yearbook in 1970, O'Brien is an expert on hoops from half a century ago as well and he covered ‘em all… Dr. J and George McGinnis, the Squires and the Spirits, the ABA and the NBA… He tells us that Dr. J was better off the court than he was on it… how he cornered Franco Harris on a flight for 12 hours, interviewing him for most of the trip, and how the owners of the Spirits of St. Louis engineered the greatest business deal in the history of sports… and the key to the deal was that they would no longer exist. If you're looking for a 70's hoops expert, O'Brien is your man… add his expertise when it comes to that Steelers Dynasty of the 70's and he's the perfect guest for this week's Past Our Prime show. Send us a textSimon PrinsSimon is a specialist in animal behavior and training, with over 25 years experience of handling and training dogs for police and military operations. His ground-breaking work lies at the intersection of robotics, sensors, and canine abilities, contributing to remarkable success in a wide range of missions. He has trained a multitude of dogs and handlers from special units across the world, rooted in his firm belief that science can significantly enhance our interactions and work with animals. He became a patrol dog handler after joining the Dutch police force, and in 1996 he set up an innovative k9 research and development project, integrating it with covert operations. This involved conceptualizing and developing a training program for radio-guided camera dogs, a system that has achieved global recognition and application. In 2002, Simon handpicked and trained 16 dogs and their handlers to initiate USAR, a dedicated search and rescue operation. His pioneering approach took another step forward in 2006 when he began merging dogs and electronics, outfitting radio-directional canines with sensors and enabling them to carry small robots into operations. Throughout his career, Simon has written numerous training protocols, invented innovative training apparatus, and is in constant demand internationally both as a speaker and a provider of training workshops. He is a staunch advocate of operant conditioning, and is passionate about empowering trainers through tailor-made coaching techniques, seeking to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and practical training to optimize the effectiveness of operational dogs. Currently, Simon leads his own company, ACT!, where he continues to innovate within the remit of police and military k9 training.
"Fackham Hall" is a period parody comedy film set in 1930s England that crosses "Downton Abbey" with "Airplane!" and "Monty Python." It is directed by Jim O'Hanlon and written by comedian Jimmy Carr (in his screenwriting feature debut) with Patrick Carr and The Dawson Brothers. It stars Damian Lewis, Thomasin McKenzie, Ben Radcliffe, Katherine Waterston, Tom Felton, and Jimmy Carr. It follows loveable pick-pocket Eric Noone (Radcliffe) as he lands a job at a unique English manor house. He quickly rises through the ranks, and a forbidden romance with the lady of the house, Rose Davenport (McKenzie), blossoms. But when an unexpected murder occurs, Eric gets framed - leaving Rose and her family's future perilously uncertain. McKenzie, Radcliffe and O'Hanlon were all kind enough to spend some time talking with us about their experiences making the film, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which will open in theaters on December 5th from Bleecker Street. Thank you, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... There's refined British comedy, and then there's “Fackham Hall,” a movie that waltzes in wearing period-accurate garb on the outside and immediately trips over the furniture. It's the kind of delightfully silly romp where aristocrats brood, servants scramble, romance simmers, relatives wed, and the background is working twice as hard as the actors to steal every scene, like “Downton Abbey” politely offering you tea while “Airplane” swaps the sugar for gunpowder. Set between the wars, the film follows starry-eyed servant Eric and rebellious aristocrat Rose as their forbidden attraction detonates inside a household already teetering on the edge of absurdity. The ensemble includes Thomasin McKenzie, Damian Lewis, Katherine Waterston, Tom Felton, and a sprawling cast of blissfully serious performers.Joining The Discourse in today's episode are “Fackham Hall” director Jim O'Hanlon and star Thomasin McKenzie, who break down how the team crafted a period comedy where the jokes never stop multiplying and the sincerity has to be played with absolute conviction.
