2026 marks 25 years since the Dreamcast was discontinued and Sega left the video game hardware business behind forever. That doesn't mean they didn't bow out with an absolute banger of a console, though, so we're here to celebrate its legacy.We talk about its conception at a bereft and struggling Sega, its development, problems, and eventual downfall. We also each run through our own personal top 5 games on the system, and talk hidden gems and honourable mentions. Dans ce nouvel épisode de NewGame+, Ace Bunny, HKR, Mugen remontent le fil de la presse jeux vidéo papier, de ses débuts académiques inspirés de Science & Vie Micro jusqu'à sa lente agonie face à l'internet haut débit. Brad passe en pastille invité. Pedro arrive en retard, comme d'habitude, et confirme qu'il est là en touriste. Un épisode qui sent le papier glacé, le CD de démo griffé et la solution de Final Fantasy VIII qui était fausse dès la page 3. Au programme : Les premières lectures, l'ère pré-internet Tilt, premier magazine dédié à la micro-informatique, où l'on apprenait à coder en Basic entre deux soluces de DuckTales. Nintendo Player, la revue indépendante avec laquelle Mugen a appris à lire (et dont il voulait l'intégrale pour son anniversaire). Kids Mania et Astuce Mania, les magazines cheap à 12 francs avec le papier torchon. Les sections jeux vidéo des magazines jeunesse (Picsou, Mickey Parade) comme première porte d'entrée. Chacun a sa madeleine, chacun a son bar-tabac. Les grandes heures de la presse spécialisée Le changement de ton éditorial des années 90 : du journaliste technique austère au pote qui te dit "il est trop cool ce jeu". Player One, Console Plus, Joystick, Jeux Vidéo Magazine, Nintendo Magazine officiel, le MOX (Xbox Magazine), PlayStation Magazine avec son CD de démo qu'on rongeait à l'ongle pour faire tomber le disque. Les hors-séries spéciaux consoles qui te donnaient envie d'en acheter une rien qu'en la regardant sous toutes ses coutures. Pocket Magazine et ses 13 numéros entièrement dédiés aux portables. Le débat : était-ce vraiment indépendant, ou les rédacs se faisaient-elles graisser la patte avec des voyages à Bali ? Les goodies et le CD de démo : l'arme secrète Le magazine qui vendait son tirage grâce à un poster ou un CD, peu importe la qualité du contenu. La démo de Metal Gear Solid dans l'Officiel PlayStation Magazine : l'événement qui a propulsé les ventes. Les CD de démo sur PS1 qu'on refaisait cent fois, Die Hard Trilogy niveau 1, Jumping Flash, Warzone 2100. Les magazines PC avec 4 CD dedans, des wallpapers, des drivers, des mods de Half-Life, et parfois des cracks que les gars avaient glissés en douce. La technique du stagiaire qui copiait des centaines de sauvegardes à la main. La VPC (vente par correspondance) et ses prix en francs mis à nu dans une séquence de devinettes hilarante : combien coûtait une Super Nintendo avec Mario Kart ? La NES Zapper ? La N64 d'occasion ? Les soluces et leur fiabilité toute relative Astuce Mania numéro 5 avec la solution complète de Final Fantasy VIII écrite en urgence, non relue, avec la moitié des informations fausses ou erronées, des fautes de syntaxe et des pages où le texte de la page précédente avait été copié-collé sans qu'on change les screenshots. La course à la soluce pour rester dans le momentum d'une sortie. Les courriers des lecteurs comme premier forum d'entraide. Et ce moment où naïf que tu es, tu essaies de transposer les touches d'un jeu SNES vers la Mega Drive en te disant "droite c'est droite, ça devrait marcher". La traversée du désert et la mort du modèle L'arrivée d'internet et du haut débit qui tue les trois piliers du magazine : les démos (téléchargeables), les tests (disponibles en ligne immédiatement), la publicité (basculée vers le web). Les tentatives désespérées : le magazine low-cost papier torchon qui ne tient pas, le pivot culture/lifestyle/soft érotique avec CD pour survivre quelques années de plus. La publicité déguisée. Jeuxvideo.com, GameCult, Gameblog et la presse en ligne qui prend le relais, qualitative à l'époque, beaucoup moins aujourd'hui selon l'équipe. Game One, No Life et la transition vers la vidéo Marcus comme premier streamer avant l'heure sur Game One avec ses Level 1. No Life et ses obligations de diffuser 50% de musique française. Les vidéotesteurs sur Dailymotion. L'évolution vers BB300, Coupaskull, Hooper et les streamers Twitch, une généalogie directe tracée depuis les rédactions des années 90. Ce qu'il reste en 2026 Le constat unanime : le magazine tel qu'il existait n'a plus de raison d'être. Ce qui survit, c'est le premium ou rien. Les MOOK Pix'n Love (Retro Gamer Collection, IG Mag, les encyclopédies licenciées sur Gran Turismo, Shenmue, Half-Life) comme prolongement de l'expérience jeu, objet à offrir, à lire dans son canapé sans écran. Les livres Surge Éditions pour creuser une franchise en profondeur et l'anticipation d'un bouquin sur Clair Obscur : Expedition 33, dont l'artbook officiel existe déjà. Le débat : le MOOK est-il le descendant du magazine, ou le podcast en est-il l'héritier audio ? La réponse est peut-être les deux. Gamescom took place this week! On top of Opening Night Live which was home to many reveals, Xbox held their own show the day after. It's there that we finally got information on the Xbox Ally. Everything from its official release date to features, specs, capabilities, and so on. With the rumored price tag floating at $549.99 and $899.99 respectively, is this handheld doing enough to justify its enthusiast status? Despite everything being an Xbox, it seems like the Xbox Ally will only function as such if a title supports "Play Anywhere."
