Jurandir Filho, Felipe Mesquita, Evandro de Freitas e Bruno Carvalho batem um papo a transição do gênero Beat 'em Up (Briga de Rua) dos jogos pixelizados para os jogos poligonais. Nos anos 80 e início dos 90, os jogos beat 'em up dominaram os fliperamas e consoles domésticos com seu estilo visual marcante em pixel art e jogabilidade direta: andar para a direita e socar tudo o que aparecer. Títulos como "Final Fight", "Streets of Rage", "Double Dragon" e "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" marcaram época com seus gráficos coloridos, trilhas sonoras intensas e uma pancadaria cooperativa que fazia sucesso tanto nas casas quanto nos arcades.Porém, com a chegada da geração 32 bits, liderada por consoles como o PlayStation e o Sega Saturn, o mercado começou a exigir experiências mais imersivas e visuais tridimensionais. Os jogos poligonais estavam se tornando o novo padrão da indústria, impulsionados pelo sucesso de títulos como "Virtua Fighter", "Tomb Raider" e "Tekken". Isso obrigou muitos gêneros a se reinventarem, inclusive os beat 'em ups. Essa transição, no entanto, não foi simples para o gênero. TCW Podcast Episode 234 - Yu Suzuki   Often called SEGA's Shigeru Miyamoto, Yu Suzuki redefined arcade gaming through innovation and ambition. He pioneered immersive cabinets like Hang-On's rideable motorcycle and After Burner's flight sim, and used sprite scaling to simulate 3D in hits like Space Harrier and OutRun. His work culminated in the R360 G-LOC—a gyroscopic cabinet offering full 360° motion. Suzuki later led SEGA into 3D with Virtua Racing and Virtua Fighter, and pushed console design forward with Shenmue. Though he didn't invent Quick Time Events, he coined the term—and created a living, interactive world filled with dynamic conversations, a fully explorable city, and unprecedented detail for 1999. As SEGA's acclaimed Virtua Fighter series celebrates its 30th anniversary, it's almost hard to believe that nearly 2/3 of that time has been tied to the fifth iteration back when it originally hit the arcades in 2006. After two weeks of R&R, the Duke boys are back! Plenty happened while we were away. Everything from Oblivion Remake leaking (again) to a supposed Xbox console dropping in 2026 circulated, so we have much to pick up at the start of the new year. For starters, a Developer Direct looms and the lineup could be stacked if it's to include The Outer Worlds 2, Fable, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and South Of Midnight as expected. The question on the tip of everyone's tongue is simply this: "What is the mystery fifth game appearance?" In year one, it was Hi Fi Rush. After a disastrous showing in 2023, Geoff Keighley and his team put together arguably their best show for the 10th anniversary of The Game Awards! While not perfect, major issues with pacing, presenters, and speech time seemed to be ironed out. It also doesn't hurt that the show was chockful of insane announcements.
