Hannah's brain cancer diagnosis did not legally preclude her from driving, but we all agreed it was best that she not drive during her treatments. So I ended up driving her around a lot during that year, including those days she returned to school in early December of 2008. One day as I drove her home from school, one of her favorite songs came on K-LOVE radio -- "Empty Me" by American Idol contestant Chris Sligh. Thank you for joining me for another bonus episode of the While We're Waiting podcast in this year-long series in which I share our family's experiences as our teenage daughter Hannah battled glioblastoma brain cancer from February 2008 through February 2009. My desire is to process through the events of those twelve months with the perspective that 16 years has brought … and point listeners to hope in Jesus along the way.I would love to hear your thoughts on the show. How does music move us to faithfulness in God and how can it help to encourage our souls? - In this week's message, we took a look at the song "Empty Me" by Chris Sligh. This song shows us that it's important not to become too focused on our own desires and accomplishments. The chorus emphasizes that nothing is as important as God, and that we need to be willing to let go of anything that gets in the way of our relationship with Him. When we are emptied of our selfishness and pride, we can be fully devoted to God's will, and He can work in our lives in amazing ways.
Chris Sligh has done a lot in his life. He has performed on American Idol. He has put out albums. He's also been a part of some toxic Christian environments, and in this episode, he shares his story. We're back with another episode on getting involved! This time I am joined by the Director of the Office of Student Engagement at WMU, Chris Sligh. I learned a lot about advising, event planning, and the importance of finding your community within a large campus. Join us as we talk about what involvement looks like at a four year university and how it can lead to a more successful future!

Chris Sligh, artist, worship leader, deep thinker and former American Idol guy, has quite the story to tell. I did not expect where this conversation started nor where it ended up and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Chris has undergone maybe the most important and inspiring pivot of all: kindness over "right-ness". And he lets us in on his honest self-assessment and conscious steps towards health and truth. We talk a lot about fundamentalism, 4HIM and Bebo Norman, Chris's experience on American Idol and life after it. Then we get to the good stuff about identity and choices and why being loving is more important than being right. Whew. This was a good one. This month we discuss why creativity matters and Ryan professes his love for those old, rectangle school pizzas we were all served in high school cafeterias. We also sat down with Chris Sligh, who you may remember as a top ten finalist on the sixth season of American Idol. After Idol, Chris launched into life in the music industry and makes a living being creative.
CCM singer/songwriter and American Idol finalist Chris Sligh joins Mark and Chase on the show this week to discuss the complex relationship that modern Christian music has with the church. The boys are joined by long time fan Chris Sligh AKA Slighdiggity for their farewell podcast. I had a really great conversation with Chris Sligh about: What it was like growing up in a family that was deeply involved in ministry. How he came to know God and really make his faith his own. His first job at a church doing youth worship and youth pastoring. How he was involved in multi-site work at seacoast church just as it was starting. Why he decided to try out for American Idol and how God was involved in the process. The difference between CCM and artist music in the christian music world. His prayer to God to be able to spend more time with his family and the profound way God answered. Moving from his artist career to full time worship ministry and how God met all his needs. What it's like doing worship ministry at a 7500 person church. Shoreline in Austin, Tx. How he started to change the worship style at his church. The choice to move away from paying musicians in worship ministry. What he does to keep close to God in ministry. The process of writing songs and keeping yourself filled with the Spirit. A breakdown of his 3 hour rehearsal time. The importance of speaking well of the ministry that has been done before you joined.
You can't work with children, you can't work with animals but you should work with Stanley Tucci. Another week, another round of entertaining gibberish. From Jim Carrey in 'Mr. Popper's Penguins' to Stanley Tucci's dognapping days, this week's podcast has it all (and if by all you mean the 13 diverse topics we discuss, than yes, it has it all). We even take a virtual trip to France to drop in on Woody Allen's new flick 'Midnight in Paris'. Plus, Andrew finally has some to time tell us where Chris Sligh has been hiding since his American Idol appearance. Oh, and we even got a little help from our first official guests! So pull out your vacuum, dust off your duster and get ready to clean your house because another Hungry Cliff Podcast is about to commence... (SPOILER WARNING for those who haven't seen the films.)
