Forgiveness, Love, and Mercy: The Way of Jesus 2025 02 23Scripture references: Psalm 37:1-11, 39-40, and Luke 6:27-38In Luke 6:27-38, Jesus gives us a really important message. He says we should love our enemies, be kind to people who hate us, and show mercy like God's mercy. This is different from what we usually think, and it inspires us to be really loving, forgiving, and generous. This is what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. It challenges us to show His love and mercy in a world that often responds with hate and anger.“LOVE THE LORD” -- CCLI Song # 4572938 | Lincoln Brewster | © 2005 Integrity's Praise! Scripture references: Matthew 22:34-40 and Matthew 7:12 Jesus names us many times in scripture as neighbors” to one another. We have been depending on his vision for the neighbor-liness of humanity as we navigate our own search for good news.” Together, we will continue to find ways to tell deeply good news for all people by filtering our interactions through the lens of love. Today's scripture reminds us that interpretation of the law has always been difficult for humanity. We have never been of one mind. But as we have heard in this series, what we put into the world is part of the ongoing creation of the world. Is it possible to put love out there as always the first impulse for interpretation? “LOVE THE LORD” -- CCLI Song # 4572938 | Lincoln Brewster | © 2005 Integrity's Praise! Church on the Rockers, Somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 years ago, I went with several of my family members and some friends to the Araneta Colosseum in Cubao, the transportation center of the metroplex that is Manila in the Philippines. We were there with tickets to see Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant live at the Colosseum. It was amazing. I don't actually remember the size of the Araneta Colosseum, but it seemed like a billion Filipinos were there to rock out with two of Contemporary Christian Music's pioneers. Many years later, I brought my oldest child along to relive that experience. Or the closest thing to it; Lincoln Brewster in the Mariner Theater in Homer, Alaska. It was awesome. And VERY loud. Which is what I was hoping for. By the end of the first song, my child was covering her ears. Halfway through the second song, she was over it. Apparently, she is not as enthusiastic about skull crushing bass as I am. This Sunday we are going to talk about music at Church on the Rock Homer. Why do we do corporate worship the way we do it? Why the drums? Why the volume? How do we pick songs? Is there a right and wrong way to worship together as a church? Our elders and staff have contributed significantly to this discussion and I am very excited to bring the results of those discussions to you. It's gonna be a rockin' good time! Pastor Aaron Weisser

How many times do we get stuck (or thrown in the pit) when we are grieving? The number for me was too many to keep up with. Sometimes being stuck was my excuse to do nothing and then getting out of it was hard. The times I took action, the times I pushed beyond my emotions, they were the times I was less stuck, and the pit was less deep. There will be times, that you don't care about healing, you don't care about anything else that's going on because you just can't act…that's normal. But there are, if we are honest, there are many more times that we don't act because ‘it's too hard.' God has given you the power to act when it's too hard, but we don't always allow Him to take over. In this episode, I talk about getting stuck in grief and 3 ways or tips to help you while you are there and, more importantly to help you not stay there. You are a warrior; you are a conqueror! Let's get started. WORD of the Week When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire you will not be burned, the flames will not set you ablaze. Isaiah 43:2 God is with you as you take these actions – you don't have to do it alone. Pastor Katy Warren preaches on 1 Corinthians and love. Sometimes love looks like wedding gowns, tuxedos, flowers, and a great big party, and other times, love looks like sharing what you have, putting a smile on someone else's face, or making sure someone else has a warm meal. Romans 8:5-15 Have you ever wanted to do great? I mean really succeed. With all your might you wanted to make the team, give the speech, sell the product, win the girl, score the winning point, finish on top, win the prize, etc. etc. etc. but instead of winning you failed. Have you ever blown it? Have you ever experienced the agony of defeat? What causes us to fail? How do we overcome a life altering failure? How does our mentality, locality, and the reality of God's Spirit give us freedom from failure? This weekend we take in-depth and practical look at Rom. 8:5-15 where Paul compares and contrasts the failure that comes from doing life without the Spirit of God as opposed to the liberty and joy that comes from setting our minds on God's Spirit.
How should we respond when life is at it's toughest? What do we say to hurting people? This weekend, we study an amazing minor prophet – Joel is one of the most intense and often quoted books of all the minor prophets. Dealing with historic loss unexpected tragedy, he offers both sobering exhortation and incredible hope. You won’t want to miss this teaching.
