In the world of Gospel Music, few groups are more well-known and loved than the Gaither Vocal Band. A group that, for more than four decades, has toured the world, bringing the Gospel to audiences through amazing harmonies. The list of men who have comprised the Gaither Vocal Band reads like a “Who's Who” among the gospel music industry's best-loved voices, including: Steve Green, Larnelle Harris, Mark Lowry, Michael English, David Phelps and many others. Not only that, Bill Gaither –– known as the “Godfather of Modern Christian Music” –– is responsible for discovering the likes of Steven Curtis Chapman, TobyMac, Russ Taff and many others. Through an unexpected journey, Wes Hampton landed the spot of “tenor voice” for the GVB in 2005 and is currently the longest-tenured voice in the group, other than Bill Gaither himself.

The Undercovers are paying tribute to Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton with their debut single, "Islands In The Stream” (Green Hill). Watch the music video for their stunning new version of the beloved crossover hit here: https://youtu.be/Jv7j4SU-cPg The Undercovers is a musical supergroup consisting of three of Canada's most respected vocalists. The trio has united to reimagine timeless songs by some of the most iconic artist of all time, but their own career credits are equally impressive. Luke McMaster's writing credits have sold millions of copies for superstars like Rihanna, and he has collaborated with legends like Smokey Robinson, Lamont Dozier, Felix Cavaliere and Jim Brickman, who he teamed up with for their hit single, “Good Morning, Beautiful.” Joel Parisien is best known as the front man for Newworldson, earning four Juno Award nominations, penning three Top 5 Billboard singles, and headlining festivals around the world. And Kevin Pauls is a Gospel and CCM icon, often sharing the stage with many of his musical heroes such as Gaither Vocal Band, Michael English, Russ Taff, Steve Archer, Steven Curtis Chapman and more. The group is currently touring North America with their incredible live concert event, ROGERS RICHIE & ROBINSON - the songs of Kenny Rogers, Lionel Richie & Smokey Robinson. Abandoning costumes and wigs, the group focuses on the brilliance of iconic songs, reimagined in a signature stripped down acoustic style as they reimagine timeless songs that have become the soundtrack of our lives… Classics like Smokey's "Cruising", Kenny's “The Gambler” or Lionel's "Endless Love" like you've never heard them before. Smokey Robinson himself is a fan, and called the trio's version of “Ooh Baby Baby” the best cover of his cherished song that he's ever heard. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/gary-stuckey/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/gary-stuckey/support

I'm so excited to have my good buddy Brian White on this week's episode of the Stories Behind the Songs podcast! Brian White's career in music has spanned over many decades and many genres - he got his start in Christian and gospel music and toured for about 15 years doing that. He eventually fell in love with the storytelling of country music and has become a true legend here in Music City. Brian not only has plenty of hits to his name, but he's written more than a few country classics as well. Some of my personal favorite cuts of his that we cover in this episode are “Watching You” released by Rodney Atkins, “Blame It On You” by Jason Aldean and “Roll On Mississippi” by Charley Pride. He also has cuts with Rascal Flatts, Trace Adkins, and Gary Allan and Christian cuts like “Holding Out Hope To You” released by Michael English and “The Promise” by The Martins. In this episode, Brian and I also talk about the difference between CCM and country songwriting, starting out as a youth pastor following God's calling for his life, and, as usual, the stories behind the songs! I've wanted to have Brian on the podcast for a longtime - in a lot of ways, he is a big reason that The Listening Room is where it is today. He was the one who organized the fundraiser in the early days when we were struggling that was a turning point for us and in turn also played a role in inspiring our "Sound Good. Do Good." program that gives back to non-profits every month. If you enjoyed this episode, make sure to share it with your friends and give us a follow. It's our mission to share the Stories Behind the Songs and highlight the songwriters behind the stories, and it's because of listeners like YOU that we are able to do it. This week I'm talking with my friend and co-writer Ross King. Ross is a hit songwriter with Centricity Music in Franklin, TN with cuts by Jordan Feliz, Newsboys, JJ Heller and more. In addition to writing songs for himself and other artists, Ross is a successful sync music writer with multiple placements on tv. We are discussing the value of building a loyal fan base, the pros and cons of having a publishing deal as a songwriter and three things that will help you be successful in music. Sponsors: Edenbrooke Productions - We offer consulting services and are offering listeners a 1-hour introductory special. To request more info on consulting services, email Marty at contact@johnmartinkeith.com.  In this episode we talk about: *Be part of a musical organization that people are coming to hear to help learn your craft. *Writing for artists from American Idol, etc. *True fans who tell others about is more important than Spotify streams. *Artist vs. Songwriter. *Establish a tribe of true fans. *Understanding what publishing is. *Understanding what a PRO is. *The reasons for changing publishing companies. *Payout from deep album cuts vs. sync cuts. *What do you want from your career? *Does a pub deal accomplish what you want?  *3 ways to be successful in the music business. *Make relationships with the people in the middle. *“Tools Not Rules” Songwriting curriculum on www.rosskingmusic.com. *Creating awareness and authority. *Collaboration and critique are everything. BIO: Since 1995, Ross King has been a full-time songwriter, worship leader, performer and and producer. Many of the songs he's written have been recorded by Jordan Feliz, Newsboys, We Are Messengers, JJ Heller, North Point Worship, Jason Gray, Jonny Diaz, Carrollton, Micah Tyler, Coby James, Joel Vaughn, Cade Thompson, Jimmy Needham, Michael English, and many others. In addition to writing CCM and worship, Ross crafts songs for the film/tv world. His songs have been heard on an NBC promo for the Today show, a SEC Football promo and a SmileDirectClub commercial. Outside of primarily writing for others, Ross has recorded several independent albums of his own music throughout the years. In addition to all of that, Ross spends a decent amount of time teaching other songwriters and creatives how to grow in their confidence and in their craft.

The trio was initially a family group consisting of siblings Bill Gaither, Danny Gaither, and Mary Ann Gaither. After Mary Ann married, Bill's wife Gloria Gaither joined the group. Danny moved to Portsmouth, Ohio and joined the Golden Keys, another part-time group after graduating from college, but he returned to the trio in 1966.During the period of Danny's absence, the trio recorded at least two full length recordings featuring Bill, Gloria and Mary Ann. After Danny returned, at least two more recordings were made featuring the original lineup of Bill, Danny and Mary Ann.After Mary Ann left the second time, Sherry Slattery and Betty Fair performed with the group. Gloria returned in 1968. Their group was identified as "The Bill Gaither Trio With Gloria" on 1968's I'm Free. Fair left after making one more recording with the trio.Bill and Gloria balanced their musical efforts with their day jobs as school teachers until 1967. Once they decided to make music their full-time careers, success came quickly.Their recording, Alleluia sold over 250,000 units. By the 1970s, they were frequent guests at Billy Graham's crusades. The Gaither Trio's songs succeeded due to their message driven lyrics rather than showy performance techniques. Their inspirational ballads included songs written by the Gaithers like He Touched Me and The King Is Coming. These original songs were also frequently recorded by Southern Gospel groups of all types.By the time Danny Gaither left the group in 1977 and was replaced by Gary McSpadden, Bill and Gloria had begun to tour with an entourage of performers. Although Bill formed the all male Gaither Vocal Band in 1980, the trio continued to perform as well, typically with one of the Vocal Band members filling the lead singer role.Gary McSpadden left the trio in late 1988. The last recordings made by the trio featured Michael English at lead.Playlist:Artists | Song Title | Album01. The Bill Gaither Trio - Get all excited - "Our Recollections"02. Her mother-in-law is country music icon Dottie West, who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2018.With roots that are firmly planted in gospel music, Kenna's career began in 1983 as a vocalist. In time, however, God began to open a new facet of ministry for the singer.“I had been writing songs for years,” she recalls, “but it was more like journaling with rhyme. Yet there was a season of time around 1997 or 1998, when we were losing my grandmother to dementia and my mom was diagnosed with a tumor near her brain, that I began to see life intersecting with Scripture. The verses that God was using to bring me peace and comfort suddenly began to take on a melody, and I'd write it down. Then one night at church, a friend encouraged me to record some of the songs, so I did; then another friend who worked for a record company gave the songs to the publisher at thelabel, and within a week, the trajectory of my life had completely changed.”Kenna got her first cut shortly thereafter (“A Taste of Grace”), followed by her first radio single (“We're Not Gonna Bow”), which reached #1 on the national charts as well as earning the new songwriter her first of eleven Dove Award nominations.Twenty years later, Kenna has penned over a thousand songs and has garnered over 100 “Song of the Year” nominations, along with 25 “Song of the Year” winsand 8 BMI Awards. As a staff writer for Curb|Word Music Publishing in Nashville, her songs have appeared on GRAMMY® Award-winning projects by both JasonCrabb and Hillary Scott (of Lady A), as well as eight GRAMMY® nominated recordings. You can also find her work on projects by artists such as The Martins, The Isaacs, Michael English, The Crabb Family, Finding Favour, Charles Billingsley, Take 6, The Oak Ridge Boys, The Booth Brothers, Wes Hampton and AdamCrabb of the Gaither Vocal Band, Triumphant Quartet, Travis Cottrell, Jimmy Fortune (of The Statler Brothers), The Collingsworth Family, Brian Free & Assurance,Marty Raybon (of Shenandoah), Joseph Habedank, Karen Peck & New River, Jeff & Sheri Easter, The Nelons, Selah, The Blackwood Brothers, Mac Powell (of ThirdDay), and many more.Additionally, Kenna has created six musicals for the church, including Word Music's best-selling “We Are Witnesses,” along with the Dove Award-nominated projects, “Love Won” and “Christmas Is in The Heart.”In 2020, Kenna signed as an artist with Crossroads Music Group and released her long-awaited project, “A Reason for Hope,” in the summer of 2021.“I am so excited about this new chapter of life,” she shares. “It is as if everything that the Lord has allowed me to do for Him over the last 38 years has ledto this moment.”Kenna's career in gospel music has indeed come full circle. The author and board-certified Biblical counselor—who is currently pursuing a master's degreein theology—continues to blend music, devotional teaching, and humor into a ministry that reaches across the nation and around the world with the goodnews of the Gospel. Whether she is writing songs on Music Row or ministering alongside noted Christian leaders at venues ranging from The Pentagon to NASCARchapels to the local church, Kenna's life has a singular call: to creatively communicate the Living Hope found in Jesus Christ.“It's all I have wanted to do since I became a Believer,” she confesses, “and I feel so incredibly blessed that God is still allowing me to do just that.”For more information about Kenna's music and ministry, or to book her for an event, contact her office at kenna@kennaturnerwest.comYou can now catch The Gospel Jubilee Thursday afternoons at 4:00 PM and Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM EST on Southern Branch Bluegrass RadioGo to www.sbbradio.orgYou can also catch The Gospel Jubilee Saturday evenings at 7:00 and Wednesday afternoons at 4:00 CST on Radio For Life.Go to: www.RadioForLife.orgPlaylist: Artists | Song Title | Album01. This past week, the world lost an amazing man. His name was Carman. Yes, the Carman that ministered through music that told a story. After a weird year of 2020, imagine the surprise of our tiny church when we were asked to host this legend in our sanctuary! We questioned our ability to make it happen, even had questions on it being wise during the current events. Yet, there we were. Our church has seen the congregation dwindle over the years but my dad's sermons continue to be exactly what we need to hear. We go live on Facebook every Sunday morning. Come be encouraged: Metro Christian CenterThe Carman event happened. To see our sanctuary full again. To watch my parents clap and smile as they listened. To look around and watch as hands were raised, lives were saved, hope was poured out like an ocean of refreshing water on everyone there. It's a time I hope I can always hold onto. Even as someone who wasn't close to him, it was such a heartbreaking moment to hear about his passing. I hurt for his crew. They were his family. I hurt for the small churches who were like us and preparing to welcome him. I hurt for the people who had already been inviting their loved ones to upcoming shows in hopes of bringing them closer to the Lord. I hurt for the ripple effect.Yet, you know what I'm glad about? I'm glad the Lord saw our family and church worthy to host him back in October. I'm glad for the friendships we made and wouldn't have otherwise had. I'm glad for the friends that attended and we hadn't seen in years. I'm glad my children were able to meet him. I'm glad that because of that moment, we were able to sponsor 2 children from the Child Fund . If you are looking for a sign to do the same: Child FundI find it so interesting to see when God is gonna show up. He sure never does it on our time, does he?When I was a teenager, I loved – and still do – a gospel singer named Michael English. Sigh. I thought he was so handsome but the way his vocals just glided along in a song is something I am convinced the angels sound like! As everyone else on this earth, though, he made some mistakes. One was significant enough that he left the gospel music world for several years. I remember reading such hate from Christians. Harsh judgements. And these weren't judgments out of caring about a fellow brother in Christ. Through the story of redemption, I had an answer to a long-time prayer that happened at the National Quartet Convention. It wasn't the place or time I thought it would be, and at the time I was doubting my prayers were even being heard, much less answered. I was wrong. I find that I can get so caught up in life. What's going on with so-and-so, which current event is causing mass chaos, fear, and division, engulfed in the worries of not just myself but even people I don't know! I cry out asking God to listen to my heart. I still struggle with questioning my abilities to be a good mom, a good wife, a good friend. I feel like such a failure in many areas of life.Is there something you're going through right now that you're not sure how it's going to turn out? Maybe you're a parent and you are worried about your kids. You're worried about their school situation. Something they seem to be having a difficult time with. Maybe you are afraid for them growing up in the world that you are raising them in.Are you concerned about a health issue? Have you been praying for what seems like eternity about a situation? Are you looking at your life and just at the point of feeling exhausted with it all? He knows your name. He knows your heart. And I am sure He has a plan that is better than anything you could imagine. Take a breath.Keep praying. This WILL be okay.I am needing your help to reach more people. If this podcast has touched you in any way, would you mind going ahead and sharing it with someone? If you'd like to leave a ratiing or review, that would be great, too! He earned a Top 5 hit with his interpretation of The Doors’ “Light My Fire” that same year and has gone on to win seven Grammy awards. “Feliz Navidad” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and was named by ASCAP as one of the most performed holiday songs of all time. Philip Springer – “Santa Baby” by Eartha Kitt (1953) At 91 years old, Phil Springer is one of the last living composers from the pre-rock “Brill Building” era of professional songwriters.
