Mariah Keener - Here at South Bend City Church, we take our cue from Scripture which calls us as a community to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. As we gathered on Mother's Day, we took time to acknowledge the spectrum of experience in the room and to remind us that God reveals Godself to us as Mother. The breath prayer prompts and closing prayer were written by Cole Arthur Riley and can be found on her Instagram, @blackliturgies. The song I Am is by Jill Phillips and can be found here.

Andrew Peterson is, as the old saying goes, a “man of many parts.” I first discovered Andrew's music in the late 1990s, when his song “Nothing to Say” first became a favorite – and it still is. I began following his musical career and quickly discovered that he had more on his mind that music. He was building a community of artists in Nashville that were slowly making something great. Musicians such as Ben Shive, Sandra McCracken, Jill Phillips, Andy Gullahorn, Andrew Osenga, and many others started collaborating on each other's projects. Many of them became a part of Andrew's annual “Behold The Lamb of God” tour, which has become an annual Christmas tradition for many of us. An Easter tour, called “Resurrection Letters,” just finished a 15-city run. In fact, I got to see it and hang out with Andrew here in North Carolina near the end of that tour last week. Andrew Peterson's creative energy has other outlets, too. His Wingfeather Saga books have sold more than a million copies, and it's now an animated series. The second season drops this week. He also founded a non-profit organization called The Rabbit Room, with his brother Pete Peterson, a fine writer himself. The Rabbit Room hosts events and concerts and now has a headquarters in Nashville, called Northwind Manor, which has become a gathering place and work space for writers and artists of all kinds. We talk about all of this and a lot more in this conversation I had with Andrew Peterson last week via zoom. Though we covered a lot of territory in this interview, the “breaking news” here, as we say in the world of journalism, is that Season Two of the Wingfeather Saga just dropped from Angel Studios. If you get a chance, check it out. The producer of today's program is Jeff McIntosh. Here at MinistryWatch we get technical, editorial, and database support from Christina Darnell, Kim Roberts, Rod Pitzer, Casey Sudduth, and Stephen duBarry. And in the spirit of Andrew Peterson's Resurrection Letters, let me mention that Easter is not a day, but a season, so let me wish you a happy and joyous Easter season, and – until we meet again with Natasha Cowden on Friday for our weekly news round-up…May God Bless You!

Today on Feminine Roadmap: Permission to not slow down with Jill Phillips. Jill found herself unhappy and uninspired when she hit midlife. Her life dramatically changed with a divorce and a cancer diagnosis, along with that a new life. She wanted to do something she hadn't done before so she decided to go back to school and get her degree which included learning to write a thesis. A byproduct of this dynamic shift in her life was a mission to find out what she could do. At 58 years old with a degree in hand she began to explore other things that she found interesting. She hired a personal trainer at 61 years old and lost weight she'd ben carrying around for years. Her fitness journey lead to learning to run so she could do her first 5K. Jill wisely reminds listeners that they don't have to first or the fastest at what they choose, they just need to prepare and enjoy! Her next adventure was writing down her family stories and ended up with a published book. She is living proof that age is not a restriction and you have permission to not slow down as you age. She said that she's done more in the last 10 years than she had done for decades before. As she approaches 70, Jill is looking forward to what her next big experience will be. She encourages people in midlife and beyond to try something new, meet new people, and find out about yourself in the process. Break out of the things you think you know about yourself and your capabilities. Be kind to yourself, prepare, fuel your mind and body well then give things a go. If you are just getting started and you're a midlifer, grab a cuppa and listen to Jill's story. You have permission to move forward and not slow down! When Jill Phillips was growing up, creative pursuits such as painting and writing were not activities that her working-class community ever thought of doing, they were considered luxury pastimes for the more wealthy Londoners. That was in the mid 1960s. Fast forward to the 2020s and Jill has published a memoir of life on Lamlash Street back then, and found a whole new outlook on life to boot. Jill had a way with words as a youngster, but failed her A-levels and went to work in a clerical role. Pre-computers, she would file cards and answer the phone, and explains that ‘I was never so bored in my whole life.'Jill liked to travel, and eventually emigrated to Canada, where she worked in occupational therapy and healthcare for 30 years. In her early retirement, Jill started to write down the stories her family had recounted to her of life in 1960s working-class London, and some of her own tales of growing up there. When her much-loved uncle died she wanted the family stories and his war stories to live on, and used some of the small inheritance he had left her to invest in mentoring and getting her book published.Lamlash Street is that book, and in writing and publishing it Jill found out a few surprising things about herself too. CreativityFound.co.ukInstagram: @creativityfoundpodcastFacebook: @creativityfoundpodcastPinterest: @creativityfoundTwitter: @creativityfounClubhouse: @clairewaitebrown and Creativity Found Connect clubMusic: Day Trips by Ketsa Undercover / Ketsa Creative Commons License Free Music Archive - Ketsa - Day TripsArtworks: Emily Portnoi emilyportnoi.co.ukSupport the showVisit creativityfound.co.uk/gifting for seasonal arts and crafts activities and creative experience gift ideas.

The mayor of Emerson and his wife were killed in a four-car crash Saturday in Cherokee County, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office reported, and a man has been arrested on charges related to the crash. According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a four-car crash at about 4 p.m. Saturday on Knox Bridge Highway, east of Fields Landing Drive near Canton. Preliminary indications are that a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling east on Knox Bridge Hwy. lost control and crossed the center line striking a Hyundai Santa Fe traveling westbound. That collision caused the Hyundai to lose control, overturn and travel into the eastbound lane where it was struck by a GMC Savana van traveling eastbound. The Chevrolet truck also struck a Mazda 3 traveling west. Emerson Mayor Albert Pallone who was driving the Hyundai, and his wife, Camilia Pallone died in the crash. The driver of the Mazda 3 and the driver of the GMC Savana were transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet pick up, William Bryan Abernathy of Calhoun, was arrested and charged with first degree vehicular homicide, and serious injury by vehicle, DUI and reckless driving. Abernathy was also injured and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed local hospital. The site of the crash is a little over a mile east from where a Cherokee County father and daughter died in a crash on Thanksgiving - Alivia Mynes, an 18-year-old former Creekview High School volleyball standout and college freshman, and her father, Chris Mynes, 52, was the human resources director at Fox Factory in Gainesville, according to their obituaries. A trial has been set for a Woodstock resident and her son facing felony charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol. Lisa Marie Eisenhart, from Woodstock, and her son, Eric Munchel, who lives in Nashville, are charged with entering the Capitol with rioters and disrupting the proceedings there, according to their indictment. Munchel, who has been referred to as the “zip tie guy,” was photographed with zip ties in the Capitol Building, according to prosecutors. He is also accused of carrying a dangerous weapon, a Taser, on the grounds and in the Capitol Building, which is associated with additional charges in the indictment. Attorneys for Munchel and Eisenhart have said they did not bring the zip ties, but found them inside the Capitol. The trial is scheduled to start April 11 before Judge Royce C. Lamberth in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Eisenhart and Munchel have pleaded not guilty on all counts, court documents show.   A tradition to honor deceased veterans returns December17, when military families, veterans and volunteers will gather to place thousands of wreaths on the headstones at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. The cemetery advisory council is hosting Wreaths Across America, which will include a public ceremony honoring deceased military service members at 11 a.m. December 17 at the cemetery. At noon, members of the public are invited to join volunteers to place wreaths on headstones. No registration is required to volunteer. For more information, email Russ Seltenright at salty31@hotmail.com. The Georgia National Cemetery is located at 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive in Canton. The council is accepting donations year-round for Wreaths Across America. Donations can be given by check to GNC Advisory Council or online at ganationalcemetery.org.   Holly Springs could soon switch to a simple majority system for municipal elections, pending a vote by the city council later this month. The Holly Springs City Council is expected to make a decision at its Dec. 19 meeting. Holly Springs uses a plurality voting system, in which the candidate with the most votes is the winner regardless of percentage, and there are no runoffs. If Holly Springs switches to a simple majority system, like for state elections, 50% plus at least one vote will be required for a candidate to win. Under this system, in the event that no one receives 50% plus one vote in the race, there will be a runoff. Establishing a 50% plus one voting system in Holly Springs requires the city to go through the state legislature to change its charter. The city council's next meeting is at 7 p.m. December 19 at city hall.     River Ridge and West Forsyth went back and forth all night, but it was the Knights' big fourth quarter that put them over the top on Saturday's 56-47 win at the Cherokee/Forsyth Challenge. With the game tied 38-34 heading into the fourth quarter, the Knights went on an 8-0 run, with four quick points from Davis Hansraj, to take control of the scoreboard. They did not trail the rest of the way. Those three seniors were pivotal in the Knights' late push, and Hansraj tallied a team-high 17 points on Saturday. Head scored 11 points while controlling the paint on both ends, and McCord had six points. Bret Senay, a junior, finished with nine points. For West Forsyth, Sam Maynard carried the offense with 23 points, 11 of which came in the fourth quarter. Chase Damerell was second in the score column with 10 points, followed by Lachlan Povenz with seven points. After playing a tough intra-county game on Friday night, it was a quick turnaround for River Ridge. Darling noticed the fatigue setting in but credited his guys for returning to form when necessary. Saturday marked the Knights' second straight win since dropping three straight. Support staff at schools were celebrated Thursday at the Cherokee County School District's fifth annual Support Staff Employees of the Year Awards. The event honored one Support Staff Employee of the Year from each of CCSD's schools, centers and central office divisions. Each of the honorees was recognized by the superintendent and school board members, received a plaque and gifts of appreciation including a $200 Visa card and $50 Amazon gift card funded by sponsors. Sponsors include Presenting Sponsor Cherokee County Educational Foundation; Platinum Sponsors, Credit Union of Georgia, ProLogics and Roof Technology Partners; and Gold Sponsors, Cobb EMC and Nova Engineering. At the end of the evening, the district made surprise presentations to one overall CCSD winner each in three categories: Elementary School to Boston Elementary School kindergarten paraprofessional Debbie McMichen; Middle School/High School/Centers to CCSD Preschool Centers Head Start paraprofessional Julissa Izaguirre; and Central Office to CCSD Technology and Information Services technology specialist Jill Phillips. These overall winners were selected by a committee of retired educators and community leaders, according to CCSD. #CherokeeCounty #Georgia #LocalNews           -          -          -          -          -          -          The Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast is local news for Woodstock, Canton, and all of Cherokee County. Register Here for your essential digital news.             This podcast was produced and published for the Cherokee Tribune-Ledger and TribuneLedgerNews.com by BG Ad Group     For more information be sure to visit https://www.bgpodcastnetwork.com/    https://cuofga.org/   https://www.drakerealty.com/   https://www.esogrepair.com/   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

“A job of a songwriter is to not sleepwalk through the world.”  - Andy GullahornOur good friend Andy Gullahorn joins Michael on this edition of Restoring the Soul. Andy was born and raised in the rich musical climate of Austin, TX and then went to College at Belmont University in Nashville to join the legions of songwriters in the country music scene. After graduation, he spent several years as a staff writer for publishing companies while playing guitar on the road for singer/songwriter Jill Phillips (who he happens to be married to).In 2004, after realizing that his second child was on the way and that his wife would need to come off the road, Andy released “Room to Breathe” and began performing his shows again for the first time in 5 years. He now spends his time playing concerts and house shows across the country, accompanying other artists on the road, and providing his three kids with plenty of stories to tell their counselors in 20 years. One BIG ungraduation in life needs to be around age... So many of us are told how to live at what age, what we should be doing at these certain points of our lives, and then ultimately when we should shut up, and melt away in a quite whimper. Today's guest is far defying those limitations and in her own unique way, redefining what "aging" means in her life and for those around her. Jill Phillips has written her own book, taking up golf at a point in life where most people think they can't learn the game, and even running marathons.  Jill is working with her clients to help them see their world of true potential, defined by them and what they want to do, and not what others say about their age and what they "can do." The episode in which Brenda and Alex say a "bad" word… listen to find out which one… One of the things that is the biggest danger to good listening and good speaking up is assuming things. We have to be willing to wade in and ask questions and open up every part of what someone is telling us. Our methodology (how we go about ministering to people) is as important as our theology (what we're saying to people). We want to walk alongside one another in a way that represents and embodies who Christ is as much as it represents and embodies what Christ would say. Jill Phillips grew up in the early 1960's in a London that no longer exists. She started life in Lamlash Street, went to school, grew up and, after a few years of working in a solicitor's office in London, decided to emigrate to Canada. She spent 30 years working here as an Occupational Therapist and hospital manager. Towards the end of her career, when other people generally start slowing down their lives, she sped everything up. Her own battle against an insecure mindset and self-sabotage became a pathway to new confidence in her 60's. She divorced, moved, and finished writing her Masters of Occupational Therapy thesis. Now a published author and speaker, Jill has been checking items off her bucket list (like running a 5k!) and she's helping others do the same. Her book, Lamlash Street: A Portrait of 1960's Post-War London Through One Family's Story, tells the story of the strength and resilience that we all have, but don't realize till later. Watching her mother go against the popular trends led Jill to do the same thing, questioning the "norm" and showing other women - all people, really - that we can do whatever we set our minds to, at any point in our life. Please grab a copy of Jill's book, wherever you purchase your reading materials - it's worth the read! The road to becoming an author begins when you realize that a story in your life demands to be told.  At first glance, writing a memoir looks easy enough. Easier than writing fiction. After all, there is no need to make up a story or characters, and the protagonist is none other than you. Still, memoir writing carries challenges and possibilities, and the first one is to decide to begin. In a time where we currently save every memory and picture online, what's often missing is the voice of our grandparents and great-grandparents. Stories that helped younger generations understand where they come from and gave them tools for the future have been lost to live-streaming and comment sections. Yet, those lessons can provide valuable insight into ourselves and how to overcome some of our biggest struggles. Jill Phillips grew up in a London that no longer exists, London in the early 1960's. The stories of her parents and relatives who struggled to overcome the trauma of WWII touched her deeply. Motivated by the stories, Jill recaptured that unique time to pass on to the younger generation through her lively and hilarious book, Lamlash Street. In this episode, Jill talks to us about how today's families can connect younger generations and kids to their family's history, preserve family stories in writing and the surprising and enlightening lessons that come with understanding her own past family strife. At 68 years young, Jill Phillips has a lot of stories and several everyday lessons worth sharing. From growing up in 1960's London, to writing a book, to getting healthy and completing a 5K in her mid-sixties, Jill's message is clear: Do the things you want to do. This energetic and vibrant lady reminds us that divorce isn't a death sentence and that spending time with loved ones near the ends of their lives can be incredibly fulfilling and valuable. When Jill decided to write her book, it meant learning about and telling her family stories. What surprised Jill during this process was how much she learned about herself. If you have a passion project, a bucket list, or just want to make a few changes in your life, Jill's interview may be the jolt you need to get up off the couch and do the things you want to do.

After 20 years as a singer/songwriter, Jill Phillips went back to school to get her Masters in counseling and is now a full-time Marriage and Family therapist (who still plays music!) To anyone who knows Jill at all, this career transition is not surprising. She is an incredibly wise and empathetic friend to many, and even her songs are often based on the themes of carrying each other’s burdens, and holding grief and hope together in the same hand. We were originally going to do this interview in her new counseling office, so I could sit on her couch and, you know, get the full experience, but then it was a beautiful Spring day and we decided to just sit on their back porch and catch up. You might hear a few airplanes flying over, but you also might hear a lot of birds chirping, too. It was worth it. These days, when I see Jill, it’s usually while we’re working on music or in line at Ladybird Taco, so I’ve not gotten the full story until this chat. I’ve watched her sitting and doing homework in soundcheck the past four years, though, and it’s been inspiring to see how focused and driven she is on learning better and better how to love and care for people. Whether you are an Enneagram 6 or 9, married to a 6 or 9, or are close friends with either number, we think you'll find this episode invaluable. Enjoy!

As we come to the end of our first podcast season, I am so thankful for the opportunity to share the Restoring the Soul podcast with you--our listeners. As a way of saying thank you, I’m sharing this podcast which includes a special Christmas song from my friends Andy Gullahorn and Jill Phillips. I’m also sharing a message I recently gave at Denver Seminary student chapel called, “Less Is More” about our need to be still and rest in what God has already done in Christ. It’s a very timely for the often hectic holiday season.  For those of you who may be wondering, Season 2 of Restoring the Soul will premier on February 7th, 2017. You can look forward to more in depth interviews and several fresh voices about how we flourish from the inside out. Until then, many blessings to you through the Christmas season and into 2017. From my family to yours. Michael

My guest this week on the Voices In My Head Podcast is singer, songwriter, and guitarist Andy Gullahorn. The first time I ever heard Andy Gullahorn play guitar, I didn't know him by name. I was watching a live music video by Andrew Peterson online and was blown away by the incredible backup guitarist that he had on stage. As time went on I discovered not only his name but that he was also the guitarist for Jill Phillips and was also an amazing Singer and Songwriter himself. His new album is titled "Beyond The Frame" and it is one of the top albums that I've had the pleasure of hearing this year offering tracks that literally make me laugh, make me cry, and make me want to be a better person.  Voices In My Head is a Podcast dedicated to covering things like comics, movies, books, music and various other things that get stuck in the head of pop culture, but with a Theological lens.
