In one of the most hard-to-understand passages in the Bible one thing is clear: Christ's suffering produces blessing for us.

Peter teaches us that we are to follow the Lord Jesus in suffering, for He left us His example of how we ought to act.----Not only so, but Jesus Himself had already told His people that the world would hate them because it first hated Christ.----In Philippians 1, Paul exhorted believers not to fear the suffering and afflictions we receive. He described how our facing such hardship at the hand of the wicked without fear proves to them that we are hopeless and doomed.----How foolish the saints who bravely undergo persecution must appear to our persecutors- They must ask themselves, what is wrong with these Christians- How can they be so foolish as to trust in their so-called God to rescue them-----But to believers, our bravely facing persecution without being terrorized by it gives us proof that God will surely save us as He has promised- He gives us the faith to trust in Him in such extraordinary situations, which shows that He loves us, and intends to keep His promises to redeem us in the end.----After all, that faith in the promises of Jesus is the satisfaction that He will keep His word to us, and not lose a single one of us-----Recall that Jesus taught us how that, even if the wicked take our very lives, it doesn't matter, because not one hair of our heads will perish-----Then Paul makes an astounding statement. God, Paul insists, has given as a gift to all of us, both to believe on Jesus, and to suffer for His sake-----This is critical teaching by Paul- we do not gin up either our faith or our sufferings. In the same way in which God gives us the gift of suffering, He also gives us the gift of faith.----If we suffer with Jesus, we shall also be glorified with Him-
Jesus foretells short-term pain, but promises ultimate gain.
In this episode we look again at 1 Peter 1:10-12. Neither the sufferings of Christ nor our sufferings in Christ are in vain or random, but are God's plan.

Was #Christ's suffering insufficient, do #human beings have a soul, is "#Rapture" only in #Protestant vocabulary, what is #prayer, and does the Church allow #Catholic female priests? #Catholicism #Jesus
We complain about the number of insects that bite us in our yards in the summer. That's not what participating in Christ's suffering is - but Paul has some profound and perhaps difficult things to say about his participation in Christ's suffering and how that is necessary for the sake of the Church.

…since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, 22 who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; 23 and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;
Good Friday Message
Jesus reveals He is King and that He opens His kingdom to God's people by humiliating sacrifice. Indeed, honor Jesus as the Messianic King of Kings. And be amazed at the humble sacrifice the Messiah first suffered to save His subjects. Your Way of Salvation Was Christ's Suffering.
1 Peter 3:18-22
Today we will continue with those key verses in Philippians 3, especially verse 10 where the apostle writes that suffering together with Christ would be his life long challenge, even his calling! If that is the case, then as he writes elsewhere in 2 Corinthians in several places and in Colossians 1 where we will focus today, suffering with Christ is even better than deliverance. In fact, if the grace of Christ is sufficient even then, Paul learned that his suffering must, therefore, continue so that God in his great work through him might be glorified. For, as he writes here in Phil. 2:13, it is He who is working all things together according to His glorious will and His good pleasure. We shall also see in these verses that his example is an example that dictates the same for each of us too. For an example has no power or application practically speaking otherwise.
In our study today and next time we will look at more of verse 10 of Philippians 3. Our primary focus today is on Paul's words “the fellowship of his sufferings” while next time we will consider the conformation “unto his death”. Both of these constitute expressions of Paul's testimony regarding the working of Christ's resurrection life in him. The first we will examine today by especially taking note of what Paul writes in his second letter to the Corinthians, chapters four and six. His descriptions there of ministry using these words “alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh” stand as perhaps the greatest statement of Christ's working in the apostle of the Gentiles. His life and ministry are set forth here as examples to us of the resurrection power of Christ. How can we not be motivated to follow or imitate Paul while reading these words?

"Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world. If you are insulted because you bear the name of Christ, you will be blessed, for the glorious Spirit of God rests upon you." "But it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God for the privilege of being called by his name!" - 1 Peter 4:12-14,16.Scripture Reading - Matthew 5:10-12.Sunday morning message by Pastor Danny Groening.

Theme: Healed by Suffering Point 1: Our Suffering, Point 2: Christ's Suffering, Point 3: Our Healing
August 12, 2018 We're in a series covering the New Testament epistle 1 Peter entitled "Victory". This Sunday we'll see how followers of Jesus are "winning" even when it doesn't look that way (1 Peter 4:12-19). Peter tells his audience they shouldn't be surprised if they find themselves sharing in the suffering of Jesus. Look at the life of Jesus: he suffers with his hurt and broken people even to the point of death. He calls his followers to do the same. Yet at the end of all of this suffering, there is promise of glorious new life. Join us! - It will be even more fun than it sounds. Tommy
