Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every single day. We are in a brand new book of the Bible. Go to the website and grab the Scripture Journal for this study so you can study along with us. Shout out today to Fred Jackson, from Elk Grove, CA, and his bride, who listen every day. I met Fred recently at the Men of Honor Conference at Creekside Church, and he came up and introduced himself, confessing that he had put together that the guy he had been listening to every day was standing on the stage! I love it. Today, we're looking at Mark 1:1-3: The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,'” — Mark 1:1-3 Everything changes with the arrival of the gospel. It isn't just news—it's history in the making. Mark opens his account with a statement that turns everything upside down: "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God." These aren't just the first words of a book—they are the first words of hope for the entire world. Jesus didn't just arrive; He was sent with a purpose. The gospel has always been part of God's plan. Mark goes on to show us that this wasn't a random event. It was the fulfillment of centuries-old prophecies. The messenger—John the Baptist—was sent to prepare the way. But preparation isn't just about getting things ready on the outside; it's about making our hearts ready for Jesus. John's call to make straight paths for the Lord is a challenge for us today. Is your heart prepared? Are you ready to receive the gospel, or are there roadblocks and distractions in the way? The gospel doesn't just come to inform; it comes to transform. The question isn't just whether we've heard the gospel—it's whether we've allowed it to reshape our lives. The starting point for all of this is simple: Jesus is the Son of God, and he's here to change everything. This isn't just a story about someone else's faith. This is a call to action for us. The question is: How are you preparing the way for Jesus in your life? Maybe it's time to clear out some clutter, repent of old habits, or make space for God to move in new ways. John the Baptist's message wasn't just for those in the wilderness—it's for us, too. Prepare your heart for the Lord, and let the gospel change you. #PrepareTheWay #GospelTransformation #HeartOfRepentance ASK THIS: What are the "roadblocks" in your life that prevent you from fully receiving the gospel? How can you prepare your heart today for Jesus to transform your life? Is there any area of your life that needs repentance to make room for God? How does the message of John the Baptist challenge your current relationship with God? DO THIS: Clear the clutter from your life and heart to make space for Jesus to move in new ways. PRAY THIS: Lord, I open my heart to you today. Clear the path and make my heart ready to receive the transformative power of your gospel. Amen. PLAY THIS: Prepare The Way.

Funeral service for Betty Jean Billings at Creekside Church, Monday, December 30th. Welcome & Prayer: Pastor Steve Smith Musical Selection: "Goodness of God" - Elizabeth Tenney Obituary: Meribeth Tenney Family Reflections: Ami Randazzo, Jesse Tenney, and Alana Gentosi Musical Selection: "O Little Town of Bethlehem" - Ayla and Eliana Gentosi Family Reflection: Michael Gentosi Musical Selection: "I Surrender All" - Lucia Randazzo Final Prayer: Pastor Steve Smith Betty Jean Billings was born February 11, 1934 in Albia, Iowa. She was a beautiful surprise to her parents, George and Elizabeth Stevenson, since her mom was 49 when Betty was born. She grew up loved and cherished by her parents and her four older siblings. Hazel, her older sister by 25 years, was a second mother to her. By the time of her graduation from Albia High School, Betty was dating the love of her life, Ron. In Albia, they were known as Babe and Betty Jean. Ron was two years older and enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. While Ron was on leave in December 1952, they planned a wedding in less than two weeks and were married December 26, 1952. Betty went home to Jesus on their 72nd anniversary. Betty moved to Des Moines for work while Ron was in the service and this is where they made their home following his discharge. Betty became trained as a stenographer and was adept at the lost art of shorthand. She worked for the state before she began working for the Rock Island Railroad, which later became the Chicago Northwestern. She worked for the railroad for over 30 years. Ron and Betty had two daughters, Ronda and Meribeth. Betty was a devoted mom, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her son-in-laws as sons. She was happiest when we all could be together. She would do anything for each of us. Betty loved Jesus and her life was built around her faith. Early in their marriage, Ron and Betty began attending Central Gospel Chapel which later became Creekside Church. Betty's closest friends, her buddies, were a part of her church family. Betty made friends wherever she went. She started going to the YMCA and later began teaching water aerobics. Some very special friendships were made and this group continues to meet together. She only had four months at Kennybrook Village but had already made an impact with staff and residents. Betty loved the outdoors and being active. She loved to walk, to be in her swimming pool and, if you really wanted her to be happy, you would take her on a boat ride. She enjoyed waterskiing and snowskiing. Betty left this earth December 26, 2024. She will be deeply missed by her precious husband, Ron, Ronda and Rick Gentosi, Meribeth and Doug Tenney, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A public visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Creekside Church (2743 82nd Pl, Urbandale, IA 50322) from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Sunny Hill Cemetery, in Grimes, IA, following the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Creekside Church.

April 17, 2016, was a very rainy day in Midlothian, Texas and 45-year-old Missy Bevers was scheduled to teach a fitness class outside of Creekside Church at five the next morning. That evening Missy posted on her FB page” If it's raining, we're still training!” giving the time and location of the class with instructions to meet inside the church building instead of their usual spot in the parking lot. Around 5:00 am the next morning, students arrived at the church, but instead of being met with the expected smile and encouragement that Missy was known for giving, they found Missy lying unresponsive on the floor surrounded by blood and broken glass. Later that day, Missy would be pronounced deceased. When authorities reviewed the church's surveillance footage, nobody was prepared for what they would see. This video catapulted Missy's case into the public eye and despite having very clear pictures of Missy's killer, more than 8 years later, her case remains unsolved. In the Galatians Series, we've explored how God's promise to Abraham points us to Christ and brings us into a covenant of grace through faith. We've seen how this contrasted this with the law of Moses, which served as a guardian until Christ's coming. Christ did come, and now we're saved by grace, filled with the Spirit, and sent out by the Spirit's power to witness the ends of the earth! This week, Pastor Gregg walks us through the idea that transformation has to start with us. This week, Pastor Gregg walks us through how the freedom of the gospel redeems us from the lies of shame! The false gospel of works traps us in guilt and shame, but the true gospel sets us free. Jesus paid it all, and through faith, we are justified, not by our efforts, but by His grace. Let's stop living under the curse of the law and walk in the freedom of faith, remembering that Christ has already taken our guilt and shame upon Himself! -----------------------We hope that you are enjoying this series, subscribe if you haven't already to stay up to date with what we've got going on here at Creekside Church! John Roskam's Funeral Service at Creekside Church, Saturday, July 20, 2024 Celebrating a Life Well Lived: John Ray Roskam (March 13, 1939 – July 14, 2024) Officiating: Pastor Steve Smith Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:1-8 Music provided by Jennifer Thomas (Soloist) and Karen McFadden (Pianist) Pallbearers: Silas Thomas, Simeon Thomas, Jacob Roskam, Devon Roskam, Curtis Guyer, Samuel Thomas Lunch following service Private burial at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa Psalm 16:5-11 Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful[a] one see decay. You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. "Christians Never Say Goodbye" written by The Nelons "Jerusalem City of God" written by The Hoppers John Ray Roskam was born on March 13, 1939 in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Albert and Olive (Schneidermann) Roskam. At the age of 14, he trusted the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior. After graduating from Cedar Falls High School in 1957, he “pestered” the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until they hired him. Starting as a lineman, he would work his way up to supervisor and later course developer over 29 years, moving to Waterloo, Bettendorf, Iowa City, and finally Des Moines. He joined the US Navy, serving in the Reserves from 1961-1967, with two of those years in active duty. In 1962 John joined a group from his church in attending a winter retreat in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. It was on a toboggan there that he met the love of his life, Ruth Faulkner. Although he had brought several girls in his car, he offered to drive Ruth home to Chicago, saying it was “only 200 miles out of his way”. After a long-distance courtship, they were married on November 27th, 1965. God blessed their marriage with four children: Roger (Lori), Jennifer (Vaughn Thomas), Ryan (Susie) and Jay; grandchildren, Jacob and Devon Roskam; Silas, Tori (Sam) Thoman, Arianna, and Simeon Thomas; and Curtis Guyer. On December 24, 2023 Carolina Thoman was welcomed as their first great-grandchild. In 1987, John took early retirement but was never idle. He started driving a school bus for Johnston, hired on as a salesman at the new Best Buy, videotaped many events and weddings, gave tractor rides at the Machine Shed Restaurant, and he never stopped collecting and working on telephones. Later, John and Ruth enjoyed traveling and escaping the Iowa winters by heading south. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Huebert of New Mexico, brother-in-law Dick (Arlene) Faulkner of Wisconsin, and many nieces and nephews. He went to be with the Lord on the morning of July 14, 2024 after living with Parkinson's for several years. Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024 at Creekside Church, 2743 82nd Place, in Urbandale. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the church. A private interment will occur at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Parkinson's Foundation in loving memory of John. Online condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com

Today we celebrate 4 years of ministry as Creekside Church! We share how God has moved since we launched, who we are as a church, and where we believe God is taking us.
Live stream from Creekside Church on Sunday, September 3, 2023 Pastor Steve preaches from 1 Samuel 28:3-25 and the tragedy of not knowing God. Saul, facing a military dilemma, turns to a God he's been rejecting, finds Him silent, and turns to a witch for help instead. We learn of a God who hides from, humbles, hammers and horrifies the faithless—yet still offers a way back from being His adversary to becoming His ally. Steve's message follows brief announcements, including Doug Elrick's introduction to small group Bible studies. Worship music permitted under CCLI License #264436.
Pastor Gregg Sizemore joins The Grow People Podcast in which we dive into a simple but yet profound discussion about discipleship, the extraordinary story of Creekside Church, and of course...chat about Greg's notable hat game!

This Sunday, we welcome guest speaker Gregg Sizemore. He is the Lead Pastor at Creekside Church in Dallas, Georgia. This sermon is focused on Matthew 22:1-14 and Luke 14:15-24. This scripture shares a parable about a king throwing a grand banquet for his son and that many are invited but don't show up. Scripture says believers are to pursue others in sharing about God's love for them, as well as invite them into fellowship with God's family. Often times the message of God's love may seem to fall on deaf ears, but there is always hope.

In the early morning hours of April, 18 2016, Terri “Missy” Bevers, mom of 3 and wife, was preparing to lead her Camp Gladiator Boot Camp class at Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian, TX. Are we any closer today to catching her killer than we were on that day???
