Katie is an actor and writer who has graduated from Goldsmiths University and East 15 Drama School. Her credits include:Film:Burlesque FilmsAnimal CharmTV:The CutTheatre:Caviar and Chips - Soho Theatre and TourTwo's Tales - King's Head TheatreUncle Vanya - Theatre NomadHamlet, The Seagull and The Odyssey - Factory Theatre Company As both an actor and writer she has also appeared in her own one woman show “Fox”, written in 2018, first performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019, followed by a UK Tour. Including a recent run at the Park Theatre in Islington this past December, directed by Lisa Cagnacci. Katie and I discuss her play, the writing process, getting the show up and running, and the rewards and challenges of its subject, motherhood. The play follows a mother called “MUM”, she's just given birth to her first child and finds herself increasingly anxious, as a result of being isolated in her flat all day caring for her newborn while her husband is at work. On top of this, a mysterious homeless man is perched on the other side of the wall of her flat. While he offers no threat to the mother and child, his presence is nevertheless unsettling, and the mother would like to know more about why and how he got there. This play is about the side of being a parent that many wouldn't know about, it removes the rose tinted glasses and shows you what its really like. In addition, how important it is to ask for help if you're struggling and how you don't have to do it on your own. Should sports fans embrace tanking for their teams? Is there a solution for the leagues? Is Derek Carr a possibility at QB for the Steelers. The Slam Dunk contest shows that some sports spectacles aren't what they used to be.

We’ve been following along with changes to the DMV. WRAL has reported extensively on long wait times, new offices and a top-down effort to make the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles better. The most recent development - early morning hours are getting cut. Starting this week the DMV will no longer offer extended early morning hours, opening at the standard 8 a.m. statewide. WRAL’s Carly Haynes and Jaylin Jones sat down to talk through the changes and how they fit into the big picture when it comes to fixing the DMV.

Hello to you listening in South Bend, Indiana!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk With 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. The line on the birthday card from my sister goes like this: “The sun is up and you are alive to see it. Start there.” [Lin-Manuel Miranda] It's just what I need to light my way in the early morning dark to the coffee pot in the kitchen. Following are 5 inspirations chosen for you. Dance with the one that calls today: “Well, I've often felt that dreams are answers to questions we haven't yet figured out how to ask.” [David Duchovny playing the character Fox Mulder The X-Files 1995)]“Roll out, snakes! It's daylight in the swamp!” [The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich]“Always remember Bilbo, when your heart wants lifting, think of pleasant things... Eggs and bacon. A good, full pipe. My garden at twilight.” [Gandalf & Bilbo Baggins]"When nothing's working, it might be a cosmic conspiracy to get you to experiment." [Caroline Casey]“What's really important is not the big things others have created but the continuous, each-by-each little things you are bringing into being. Never underestimate your singular power as a creator.” [Diane Wyzga]And thank you for listening. You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" You awake to a strange silence, a deep calm. As you draw back the curtain, you are surprised to see a soft blanket of snow across the garden and beyond. This wasn't forecasted. But, like the boy in the Snowman, you quickly pull on warm clothes and dash out to explore – to be the first to lay down a trail of footsteps in the fresh snow. Sparrows, a gorgeous song thrush and distant barking hounds provide the commentary.BBC Countryfile Magazine's Sound Escapes are a weekly audio postcard from the countryside to help you relax and transport you somewhere beautiful, wherever you happen to be.
