David Pingree is a former professional athlete, racing Supercross and motocross from 1993 to 2003. Pingree rode for Splitfire/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki, Primal Impulse Suzuki, factory Red Bull/KTM, and MotoWorld Suzuki before transitioning into the editorial life for Racer X Magazine.A multi-time Supercross race winner, Pingree was a title threat throughout a majority of his career. “Each time there is a transmission there is a transformation.” — David Pingree This episode of In Memoriam addresses a monumental figure in the history of astrology, David Edwin Pingree (2 January 1933 – 11 November 2005). Today, on the anniversary of his departure, we have the honour of talking to four eminent scholars: Charles Burnett (The Warburg Institute, University of London), Alexander Jones (New York University), Kim Plofker (Union College), and Stephan Heilen (University of Osnabrück). They share their experience of working and learning with David Pingree, as well as the importance of his work, revealing both the man and the scholar. In the words of Charles Burnett: “It is impossible to classify him as Sanskritist, a scholar of the culture of the Near East, or a Greek or Latin specialist. He was all of these, and much more. His merit was to see the whole canvas of the history of the science of the stars, spread out from the Western shores of Europe to the Eastern shores of India, and extending from the very beginnings of man’s interest in the stars to the early modern era. The story consisted of many episodes, and featured many characters, who spoke in several different languages, but in the end it was one story, and only David was able to tell it.” – Proceedings of the American Philosophical Society Vol. 152, No. 2, June 2008, pp. 256-259. The last month has witnessed a flood of new-bike press releases from the major manufacturers—so much so that it might be hard to remember what's new. Which 2019s have really advanced and which ones are sporting "revised settings" to go along with "bold new graphics?" Jason Weigandt chats up David Pingree to find out, and further, they start talking about key topics such as all-new bikes versus refined older models, the difference between Husqvarnas and KTMs, and more. Weigandt also spills some inside scoop that he learned about the RedBud Motocross of Nations over the weekend. Enjoy! The Racer X Exhaust podcast is brought to you by Yoshimura.

The Dallas supercross has not always been kind to Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac, but he put all of that bad history in the rearview mirror with an absolutely dominating performance on Saturday. Eli’s season has been a chorus of highs and lows and we’ll get his thoughts on the entire season and beyond tonight. It’s never easy for the 250SX West riders to endure such a long break mid-season, but it’s always easier to take when you go into it with some momentum. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo has shown impressive speed all year and earned a season-best 2nd at San Diego before the long hiatus. It’s always a pleasure getting AC’s perspective and look forward to a little bench racing on all three series, and anything else he wants to weigh in on. Racer X’s David Pingree is on the show tonight. Put your kids to bed early and park your feelings at the door. Ping always slings it sideways on any topic we bring up and we have plenty to go over tonight. We'll get his thoughts on the field, new rule and venue changes and whatever else the GOAT wants to throw into the mix. We'll also get the latest on the Ricky Carmichael Amateur Supercross (RCSX) which returns to the Daytona International Speedway this March for the biggest two-day amateur supercross event in the world. Racer X's Davey Coombs is already in Anaheim and will give his final thoughts before we drop the gate on the 2018 Monster Energy Supercross season this Saturday night! David Pingree has been heroically fighting the historic California fires beside his brave fellow firefighters for many weeks in between his other moto duties. We're glad things have finally been contained out west and we look forward to catching up with Ping tonight. Barrett Sallee is a college football writer/analyst for CBS, ESPN and an actual Heisman voter, but also loves Supercross and our show for some reason. We have a ton to cover tonight with the College Football Playoff National Championship and Anaheim 1 going down within two days of each other. Make sure you sign up with MotoDynasty for your fantasy supercross racing this year. They have an incredible new site and fantasy options for every level and style of player. There are few guests we look forward to having on more than Red Bull KTM's Roger DeCoster. Our listeners thoroughly enjoy his honest and forthright interviews and we have a lot to cover tonight with the recent supercross rule/format changes and a recap of KTM's year. Racer X's David Pingree will give us his thoughts on the new SX changes for 2018 and all the other headlines in the sport and around the world. Coastal Racing/Husqvarna's Ryan Sipes recently won his first-career GNCC overall victory and celebrated by showing up and representing at the Red Bull Straight Rhythm last weekend. He may not have raced on a supercross track in quite some time, but the Kentucky Kid didn't show any signs of rust on the unique and challenging track. We'll get his thoughts on his busy and exciting year tonight. Ronnie Mac is the most polarizing and controversial athlete in sports since OJ Simpson, and we're pretty sure that dude killed some people. His unapologetic rise to fame has left a bitter trail of tears and empty Pabst Blue Ribbon cans along the way. We can't wait to hear his take on the recent Red Bull Straight Rhythm race where he defiantly called out some of the best riders our sport has ever seen. DMXS Radio thanks Coach Robb Beams, MyLucasOil.com, Moto Dynasty, SCOTT, Shades of Gray, Racer X, MX Sports, DUBYA Wheels, GoPro, OGIO, Concept2 Rowers for their continued support.
