No pregnancy is the same, and every body is different. Why would we think prenatals would be the same for everyone? Our guests, Doreen Bloch and Dr. Nate Fox dive into the world of prenatal supplements with us and talk about how Ellement is geared towards providing care for women individually. This is the first time I'm having more than one guest on at a time and I'm super excited to have both. Today I'm joined by Doreen Bloch and Dr. Nathan S. Fox. Doreen is the CEO and founder of Ellement, the first personalized prenatal supplement system. And Nathan is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist and an advisor at Ellement. Ellement was actually a sponsor of the podcast last year and I invited them to come back because what they're doing with prenatal supplements is pretty cool. The short story is that, unlike most prenatals, these supplements are made specifically for each individual person based on their unique needs or dietary preferences. I love the idea of things being more personalized and less one size fits all; I think that's the future of where supplements and healthcare overall are headed. Please know that I have no financial interest here. They are no longer sponsoring the podcast - I just want to share things with you that I think are important and useful. In this Episode, You'll Learn About: -Why we recommend prenatal vitamins -When you should start taking them -What the difference is between folic acid and methylfolate -What role supplements should serve in pregnancy nutrition -How prenatals can be deficient -Why individualized care is important -How Doreen's personal experience with pregnancy and birth inspired her to start Ellement -How the cost of Ellement stacks up against other prenatals or mixing and matching vitamins --- Full website notes: drnicolerankins.com/episode191 Check out The Birth Preparation Course Register for the class How to Create a Birth Plan the Right Way
The value of heritage history and legacy is sometimes overlooked or viewed as a liability. So much of the current hyper-connected beauty landscape is focused on newer, faster, and better. And sometimes what came before is tossed aside, or dismissed as not relevant. But, Doreen Block, the Executive Director of the Make-Up Museum, believes beauty history is a treasure trove of inspiration, just waiting to be discovered. She sits down with Kelly to discuss how she made the idea of documenting, archiving, and paying tribute to thousands of years of beauty a reality. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The recently established Makeup Museum located in downtown New York City explores the history of beauty and its ongoing impact on society. It’s a cool and dynamic space that celebrates beauty culture; one particular exhibit dates back decades, showcasing Erno Lazlo’s personalized skincare prescriptions for both Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy. But on this podcast, we talk Kevyn Aucoin, the iconic makeup artist and beauty pioneer whose work made a huge impact on the beauty industry, and also on us, at Story + Rain. Working with his family, the Makeup Museum has digitized over 1600 pages from his 7 journals. The legendary talent and visionary kept years of calendar-planner books that he added visual elements to: magazine cut outs, polaroid photos, and stickers decorated each dated section. Today, those pages provide a fascinating inside look into not only all of his famous projects and top jobs, but his creative life and mind. We sat down with two of the museum’s founders, Doreen Bloch and Rachel Goodwin---the celebrity makeup artist whose work you recognize on such stars as Emma Stone and Julia Roberts. We were joined by Kevyn Aucoin’s niece Samantha Adkisson, who shares intimate details about her uncle, his vision, and his journals. We discuss the museum’s founding, working with artifacts, Kevyn Aucoin’s place in pop culture + more. This is an incredibly exclusive talk with The Makeup Museum and on one of the ultimate pioneer creatives of our time, Kevyn Aucoin.
Doreen Bloch, Executive Director of the Makeup Museum, has embarked on a journey back to the world of the 1950s makeup and beauty. She created a time capsule of artifacts and nostalgia that includes not only actual makeup bottles belonging to celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, but also submissions from people who lived through the 1950s to today. In the midst of a pandemic that delayed the launch of her novel idea, she's maintained composure and positivity. #wherebrainsmeetbeauty@wherebrainsmeetbeautypodcast wherebrainsmeetbeauty.com

A museum dedicated to makeup is opening soon.. what's involved and why, given makeup's 10,000 year history, is it only happening now?Hello and welcome to Beauty Island, the award-nominated beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.I’m your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart. The premise of Beauty Island is simple - Each episode, I sit down with a guest and ask them about the 8 beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them. The ones they’d take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off too.Maybe it’s the beauty product that defined their teens, the one they grew up watching their mum or grandma use, or the perfume that instantly sparks a memory of a special place or person.Along the way we find out more about their life, career and the people and events that have shaped them into who they are today. But, after all that, today is something a little bit different. In this episode, you will hear my interview with co-founder of the world’s first makeup museum, opening up in New York in May, Doreen Bloch.I was originally going to drop this as a bonus episode but the conversation ended up so interesting and really went to the heart of what Beauty Island is about that I wanted to instead release this as a main episode. So please excuse the slightly different format.A note - thank you for all your feedback last season on phone versus in person interviews. Hopefully you’ll notice most of this season has and will be in person but as Doreen is in the US and I am in Melbourne and I really wanted to talk to her about this venture, this is a rare exception.I won’t give too much away, but in my chat with Doreen we talked about how on earth a museum dedicated to the history of makeup has not existed before, where on earth you start given makeup’s 10,000 year history, some of the amazing pieces and cultural history she’s discovered along the way - like why a lipstick is called a lipstick bullet, that blew my mind - and of course, when you can visit yourself. The Founder of Poshly Cosmetics Founder & Beauty Expert, Doreen is someone who knows the makeup space intimately, working in the industry, providing consumer insights to some of the biggest beauty brands. So she was the perfect person, as she put it, to beauty nerd out together. If you enjoy this or any episode of Beauty Island, I have a little favour to ask. If you aren’t, please subscribe, rate five stars and if you’re listening on Apple Podcasts, write a little review about why you enjoy the podcast. It takes just a few seconds and means the world to me. Or you can recommend to a friend! Or a casual acquaintance! Or a total stranger standing beside you on the bus. And you can take a screenshot, share it on your Instagram story and tag me @beautyislandpodcast so I can see where you’re listening. Now, over to Doreen.
