Did God work through her trying to do things "her way", or did God work in spite of her attempt to ensure her favorite son was blessed? Whatever the implications, we hope this episode gives you pause to think through what the meta narrative is telling us, and allows you to approach Scripture in a thoughtful and curious way to really let it sink in. Justice for Reyzl: Standing up to LGBTQ Workplace Discrimination Host: Noah Parrish, Gender Justice Communications Director Guest: Brittany Stewart, Gender Justice Senior Staff Attorney In August 2024, Gender Justice and co-counsel Wanta Thome PLC filed a discrimination lawsuit against the Academy of Holy Angels, a Catholic high school in Richfield, Minnesota, and the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis after they effectively terminated Reyzl Grace, a staff librarian, when she came out as trans. Reyzl Grace's story highlights the importance of ensuring that no employer in Minnesota has carte blanche to discriminate against employees simply because of who they are.   We believe the school violated the Minnesota Human Rights Act (MHRA) by refusing to allow Grace, who served as a secular librarian at the school, to reapply for her position on the basis of gender identity and sex. While the MHRA does permit limited exemptions on religious grounds, the Legislature never intended for these exemptions to apply to secular employees. In this episode of The Gender Justice Brief, Reyzl Grace's attorney, Brittany Stewart, outlines our case seeking justice for her: Background and context on Reyzl Grace's case Grace v. In this episode, Erin Maye Quade is joined by Christina Sambor and Brittany Stewart.   The discussion centers on Gender Justice's expanded work into North Dakota and South Dakota, a region often used as testing grounds for right-wing movements.  Gender Justice is challenging discriminatory laws, promoting LGBTQ rights, and reproductive rights, and bolstering legal capacity. Christina Sambor gives an in-depth overview of North Dakota's current gender justice landscape. Notably, the state's recent legislation targeting transgender rights has sparked significant concern. Bills, such as HB 1254, prohibit gender-affirming care for minors, restricting treatments such as puberty blockers and potentially subjecting medical professionals to legal consequences.  Brittany Stewart underscores this legislative push against trans rights as a façade of child protection, rooted in deep-seated bias against the trans community. ### Visit the "Gender Justice" Website here and "Unrestrict Minnesota" here. Earlier this year, the Legislature passed a bill to outlaw gender care — both surgeries and medicinal treatments — for minor children who are transitioning. Now, a group of North Dakota parents are working with a group called Gender Justice to sue over the legislation, arguing that it's illegal. Devon Dolney, a Fargo parent to a trans son, and Brittany Stewart, an attorney for Gender Justice, joined this Plain Talk episode to discuss their case. Stewart said the legislation presents equal protection issues, as well as constitutional protections for life, liberty, and parental rights. Also, on this episode, Sen. Creating a niche podcast certainly comes with its challenges. However, if you do it right, you could end up with quite a unique show that fills a specific need for listeners. You have to be willing to have a little flexibility with your interpretation of success. And you have to let your audience have a little freedom. Welcome to Should I Start A Podcast.  I'm Ronsley Vaz. Each week you'll hear me, and a star-studded guest lineup, dig deep into the podcasting process. We'll bring you tactics, tips, and tricks to use in your own podcasting journey. We'll teach you how to build an audience. And we'll show you how to keep them coming back, show after show. So if you want to start a podcast, or expand your current audience, this is the show for you. Brittany Stewart wants her beauty podcast to reach beyond its niche. Brittany Stewart has a background in journalism and a passion for beauty. This combination has allowed her to see the possibilities of the niche world of beauty when it comes to podcasting. Her award-winning podcast, Beauty Island, tells stories through memories connected to beauty products.  Brittany's background at Mamamia, Australia's largest network for women, gave her built-in know-how for niches. However, producing a podcast as a “one-woman show” as she explains it, has been a learning experience, to put it lightly. In this episode, I got to ask Brittany some pretty eye-opening questions mainly about honing down the podcast niche market. She had some constructive advice about garnering interest in your show, as well as tailoring your reach-out emails to score awesome guests. As a journalist, Brittany understands the unbridled power words can have. So she hammered out the importance of understanding how to word your podcast description in a way that fully explains the show's concept and sets it apart in your niche. This is definitely an episode to pay attention to, especially if your podcast fits into a niche category.  Other topics in this episode: Brittany's background story The podcasts that inspired her Tips for cold emailing The importance of clear articulation in your podcast description The importance of making your podcast a priority, even if it's a side hustle Understanding your audience Anchor your concept, but leave it up for interpretation Audio quality and where not to cut corners Links: Brittany Stewart on LinkedIn Brittany on Instagram Brittany on Facebook Beauty Island on Instagram Beauty Island Podcast Reserve your spot at the next We Are Podcast event so you can learn from the experts. The ones they’d take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off too.Maybe it’s the first beauty product they ever bought, the one that gives them their signature look, or the perfume that instantly sparks a memory of a special place or person.Along the way we find out more about their life, career and the people and events that have shaped them into who they are today.Today my guest is beauty brand founder and managing director, Alison Goodger. Ever heard of Sukin skincare? Of course you have. Spearheading the natural skincare space, Alison was the co-founder building the brand up to become Australia’s no.1 selling natural skincare. Now, back along with her brother, she’s birthed a new natural, vegan beauty brand called Alkira Skincare. We talked what it’s like launching a new brand amidst a global pandemic, how a skateboarding accident as a child gave her a rude crash into beauty, the natural deodorant she swears by, and she reflects on a particularly pivotal time in her life where she sold her business, had her third child and was diagnosed with breast cancer in the space of just a few months. If you enjoy this episode, please rate and write a review on Apple Podcasts or subscribe on Spotify if you haven’t already. The celeb-endorsed moisturising cream that's better than La Mer...Hello and welcome to Beauty Island, the award-nominated beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.I’m your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart. And welcome to another brand new season of Beauty Island. Yep, that’s season 5.If you’re new here or you just need a recap: Each episode, I sit down with a guest and ask them about the 8 beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them. The ones they’d take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off too.Maybe it’s the first beauty product they ever bought, the one that gives them their signature look, or the perfume that instantly sparks a memory of a special place or person.Along the way we find out more about their life, career and the people and events that have shaped them into who they are today.Today, my guest is Jade Kisnorbo, top celebrity makeup artist and hair stylist who has worked with just about every Aussie celeb and influencer you can name. But makeup wasn’t always the plan, with a career journey that’s spanned two - (and a bit!) - continents and a lot of hard work, drive and passion. Now you'll catch her presenting the Beauty Buzz segment on Wellness Australia, backstage at runways and red carpet, masterclasses including at Westfield Doncaster... at that could be just one week!Jade is a makeup artist I’ve long admired, so it was a thrill to sit down and chat all things beauty. We talked about chasing passion, the celeb endorsed-cream that’s better than La Mer, and finally an answer to what to do about under eye creasing from makeup. Plus, so many great tips and advice for both beauty and beyond. Before we get into it, I have a little favour to ask. If you enjoy this episode, please consider rating and writing a review on Apple Podcasts or subscribing on Spotify. As an independent podcast, those really help the podcast grow by helping others to discover it! Otherwise, bonus points if you get the word out there by taking a screenshot of the episode or where you’re listening, upload it to your Instagram story and tag me @BEAUTYISLANDPODCAST so I can see! When a three week holiday turns into a four month staycation...Hello and welcome to Beauty Island, the award-nominated beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.I’m your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart, and this is the FINAL (!) episode of Beauty Isolation, a special mini series of Beauty Island.Normally, I ask my guests about the 8 beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them. The ones they’d take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off to. In Beauty Isolation, instead they pick the 8 products that have played a significant role in quarantine. The ones they’re using, ditching or rediscovering in isolation. It has been a fascinating insight into how isolation has reshaped and affected our relationship and opinions on beauty and I hope these episodes have helped you reflect on your own, as well as act as little beauty time capsules. So, I thought it very fitting to end Beauty Isolation with a guest who already has extensive experience living on a remote island, completely isolated form the rest of the world. Today, my guest is two-time Survivor AU contestant, Shonee Fairfax.Living between Noosa and London, Shonee appeared on Season 3 and the recent All Star seasons of Survivor Australia. We talked about the best sunscreen she’s ever found, how she kept up her skincare regimen on the island, and why it pays to try beauty minis before you splurge on the full size.If you enjoy Beauty Isolation, please subscribe, rate and review, and share with a friend. The hair product every blonde needs in quarantine...Hello and welcome to Beauty Island, the award-nominated beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.I’m your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart and this is another episode of Beauty Isolation, a special mini series of Beauty Island.Normally, I ask my guests about the 8 beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them. The ones they’d take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off to. In Beauty Isolation, instead they pick the 8 products that have played a significant role in quarantine. The ones they’re using, ditching or rediscovering in isolation. Twice a week, we’ll explore how their relationship to beauty has changed during this time, as well as conversations around self-care, how they’re going, and what they’re most looking forward to.Today my guest is journalist and founder of Shameless Media, Michelle Andrews. Shameless Podcast has been downloaded over 10 million times, with hundreds of thousands of people each week pressing play to hear Michelle and co-founder Zara McDonald give their smart take on pop culture. As well as being a brilliantly talented writer and podcaster, Michelle is also a former colleague and very good friend, so it was so lovely to chat (remotely) about beauty and isolation. We talked about isolation skin, the quarantine-life-changing hair product tiding her over while she can’t visit the hairdressers, the reality of being productive during a global pandemic, and her beautiful newfound appreciation for time spent with her siblings. If you enjoy the podcast, please subscribe, rate and review, and share with a friend. Beauty Island presents... Beauty Isolation. Why (and how) to introduce retinol into your beauty regimen...Hello and welcome to Beauty Island, the award-nominated beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.I’m your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart and I’m very excited to present a special mini series of Beauty Island called Beauty Isolation.Normally, I ask my guests about the eight beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them. The ones they’d take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off to.In Beauty Isolation, instead they pick the eight products that have played a significant role in quarantine. The ones they’re using, ditching or rediscovering in isolation. We’ll explore how their relationship to beauty has changed during this time, as well as conversations around self-care, how they’re going, and what they’re most looking forward to.So for the next few weeks, there’ll be two Beauty Isolation episodes a week dropping in your feed, with a range of guests, including many from some of my favourite other podcasts. To kick us off, my first guest is content creator and skin educator Hannah English, who uses her science background to provide an important and unique take on beauty. It's earned her over 30,000 Instagram followers. We talked about why you still need to be wearing SPF in isolation (and taking it off too), an important reminder that self-care can be a lot simpler than a fancy gold leaf face mask, and why now is the perfect time to be introducing skincare ingredients like retinol into your regimen - Hannah shares her beginner’s guide. If you enjoy the podcast, please subscribe, rate and review, and share with a friend. Win yourself a The Blow voucher....It’s the season four FINALE!Hello and welcome to Beauty Island, the award-nominated beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.I’m your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart. Each episode, I sit down with a guest and ask them about the 8 beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them. The ones they’d take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off to.Maybe it’s the first beauty product they ever bought, the one that gives them their signature look, or the perfume that instantly sparks a memory of a special place or person.Along the way we find out more about their life, career and the people and events that have shaped them into who they are today. This is the final episode of season four, and I couldn’t think of anyone much more fitting to conclude what has been another incredible and inspiring season. The good news is that I’ll be back very soon with a special series; a little tweak to the usual format I’m calling Beauty Isolation. Guests will still be talking through 8 products, but the ones they’re using, ditching or rediscovering during quarantine. We’ll explore how their relationship to beauty has changed during this time, as well as a host of related topics. I’ve hit up some old and new beauty friends for a brilliant line up and I can’t wait to share it with you.Today, my guest is founder of The Blow and From The Memo, Phoebe Simmonds. She’s sharp, intelligent, resilient and sitting down with her, it’s quickly apparent why she is so highly regarded and liked in the beauty industry. Our chat was just a few days before COVID-19 took over the world. We talked about what she learned working in beauty and marketing all over the world for top brands including LMVH, Benefit (and even a Bono-affiliated beauty brand), the reality of burnout when you’re building a business, having Julia Gillard in for a blowdry, and the sunscreen that got her on the SPF train. At the end of the episode, we talk about ways you can support businesses like The Blow during these times through gift vouchers. I know that one of the first things I’ll be treating myself to is a pampering blowdry from The Blow and I would love to pass that forward to. So I have purchased a voucher that you can spend on a blowdry, dry-style or treatment once they have re-opened that I would love to give away! TO WIN: All you have to do is share a screenshot of this episode on your Instagram story or as a feed post and ensure you tag @beautyislandpodcast and @theblowaustralia to go in the running to win. Yep, just share a screenshot and tag @beautyislandpodcast and @theblowaustralia and you could win a voucher to go treat yourself to a glorious hair day at The Blow Australia. A flag that current locations when they reopen are in Melbourne or Sydney CBDs, but if you’re planning to visit either of those places, again when everything is reopened, then please feel free to enter too!As always if you enjoy this episode, please subscribe, rate five stars and write a review. if you need some more beauty escape, sign up to my beauty newsletter It’s A Beauty!
