This week we have a look at the 1970 Hammer film Scars of Dracula as part of our march to Halloween. This is Episode #382!Scars of Dracula is a 1970 British horror film directed by Roy Ward Baker for Hammer Films. It stars Christopher Lee as Count Dracula, along with Dennis Waterman, Jenny Hanley, Patrick Troughton, and Michael Gwynn. Although disparaged by some critics, the film does restore a few elements of Bram Stoker's original character: the Count is introduced as an "icily charming host;" he has command over nature; and he is seen scaling the walls of his castle. It also gives Lee more to do and say than any other Hammer Dracula film except his first, 1958's Dracula.
The boys do a deep dive into vampire-lore and ruin all of that too. They try as they might to answer the question of what Dracula would even do with all his free time after living for so long. Also check out our podcast pals Dead and Watching It! (A Dracula Podcast) they discuss Dracula related films and have a banger of a time hearing each other's thoughts. Ascoltiamola. All Saint's Day/All Witches' Sabbat is the jewel in the Bram Stoker festival crown as we creep into Dead Man's Month. The late P.J. O'Connor's 1960s armchair-plus-antimacassars take on the Transylvanian count in Tinahely romps gorgeously with the grim original, and there's a suitably sepulchral performance by Tom Studley as a prince of darkness.
In this episode, we learn that anything can happen on Halloween, including vampire lesbians as we read Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's gothic, sapphic novella, Carmilla (or Mircalla, or Millarca...or Clam Rail). Along the way, we'll revisit the acronym RJ refuses to let go of, learn about moon magic, what in the hell a schloss is, and listen to Megan be an absolute Numbers Idiot. Happy Halloween!

Mark and John discuss Francis Ford Coppola's classic Bram Stoker's Dracula. If you've never watched Bram's Stoker's Dracula, it is a vampire film that features beautiful costumes, elegant set design and practical effects. Coppola went out of his way to make this film look immaculate, so he shot everything in film and hired his 29-year old son to create an insane amount of practical effects. Bram Stoker's Dracula is a bonkers films and this podcast (with all its randomness) is a perfect compliment. Enjoy!
Is there a more recognizable literary monster than Dracula? Maybe, but who cares, IT’S A HALLOWEEN EPISODE! Join us as we learn why wolves make great lockpicks, create a Halloween “Dream Daddy” DLC, debate the merits of a manly brain, and listen to RJ do The Worst Impressions Ever. The scariest part of this episode? We’re literally too stupid to say “Bram” right.
