In this episode of The Rewatch Party, Nick, Manny, Anthony, and Elise sink their teeth into The Lost Boys, the 1987 cult classic that blended teen rebellion, vampire horror, and ‘80s rock into one unforgettable ride. As the hosts revisit the sun-soaked town of Santa Carla, they debate whether this stylish and campy horror-comedy still holds up today. Manny, a longtime fan of the film's edgy aesthetic and killer soundtrack, is eager to defend its legacy, while Nick and Anthony take a more analytical approach, questioning if nostalgia is doing some of the heavy lifting. The discussion quickly turns to the film's all-star cast, including Kiefer Sutherland's menacing turn as David, Jason Patric's conflicted Michael, and the unforgettable duo of the Frog Brothers, played by Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander. Elise argues that The Lost Boys perfectly captures the essence of ‘80s cool, from the over-the-top fashion to the brooding, synth-heavy score. Meanwhile, Anthony dives into the film's themes of belonging, family, and the allure of the unknown, noting how it stands apart from other vampire films of its era by making the undead young, reckless, and dangerously charismatic. Of course, no conversation about The Lost Boys would be complete without mentioning the now-iconic moments: the eerie amusement park setting, the infamous "Death by stereo!" scene, and, of course, the oiled-up saxophone player who left an undeniable mark on pop culture. The hosts debate whether the movie's blend of humor, horror, and action is what makes it so rewatchable or if some of its charm relies too much on its ‘80s aesthetic. Nick playfully challenges the others on whether the film's plot holds up under scrutiny or if it's just a stylish, neon-lit fever dream. By the end of the episode, the group reaches a verdict on The Lost Boys' rewatchability. While some argue that the film's camp and style make it a must-watch time and time again, others feel that its impact is strongest on first-time viewers discovering it as a hidden gem. Whether you're a devoted fan or a newcomer, this episode delivers a fun, nostalgia-fueled conversation that will make you want to crank up some ‘80s rock and revisit the vampire-filled streets of Santa Carla. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093437/

Matt Williams utilizes a character-centric approach in creating and developing iconic television series, including Roseanne and Home Improvement. The Humanitas Prize and 6-time Emmy nominated Evansville native received graduate degrees in directing and acting, and embarked on a host of television commercials, as an actor, before realizing his talent and bliss as the driving force behind impactful, relatable film and television projects. After cutting his teeth as an actor (and de facto writer and re-writer) on the CBN soap, Another Life, Matt produced and joined the writing staff of The Cosby Show during its premiere season. It was there where he learned the relevance of inviting the audience to the family table — a concept that bore fruit with regard to the development of Roseanne. In the years which followed, Matt co-created and executive produced a number of television shows under the umbrella of Wind Dancer, the production company he founded with Carmen Finestra and David McFadzean, the latter whom Matt first met at University of Evansville, which include Home Improvement, Buddies, Thunder Alley and Soul Man. He directed and produced the films Where the Heart Is, starring Natalie Portman and Ashley Judd, about a young woman who delivers a baby in a Wal Mart after being abandoned by the latter's father in the parking lot, and her journey of growth and self-discovery which follows; and Walker Payne, which he also co-wrote, and starred Jason Patric, Bruce Dern, Drea de Matteo and the legendary Sam Shepard and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Additional producing efforts include What Women Want, Bernie, As Cool as I Am and Wild Hearts Can't be Broken. And let's not forget the legendary actors that joined the cast: Jason Patric, Clint Howard, and Tom Savini who performed admirably in the film.

Forever the creative soul, Michael Hutchence was born to be more than just a lead singer of an international rock band. From the early days, Michael embraced the theatrical possibilities of music video and was at the forefront in ensuring INXS songs captured a visual vibrancy and vitality. As such, in today's episode we dive deep into the critical performances that shaped and piqued Michael's acting urges commencing in 1982 when Michael joined forces with iconic Cold Chisel songwriter, Don Walker in contributing to the seminal 1982 Australian film Freedom with two tracks and one video, notably Speed Kills that showcases a 21 year old Michael. The next 4 years were committed to INXS' global ascent via albums Shabooh Shabaah, The Swing and Listen Like Thieves, plus the relentless touring attached to these triumvirate recordings. So, it took till 1986 for Michael to clear his schedule when the opportunity came up to star in Richard Lowenstein's Dogs in Space came up. A movie that embraced the punk leanings of shared living suburbia amidst musical graft, this iconic art house movie has endured and influenced generations of fans and filmmakers over 38 years, despite its middling box office performance at the time. Fast forward 4 years later post the juggernaut albums and tours that were Kick and X, Michael scratched a lifelong itch portraying famed British poet Percy Shelly, by joining Bridget Fonda, John Hurt, Jason Patric and Raul Julia in legendary Hollywood Director Roger Corman's last ever picture “Frankenstein Unbound”. A true passion piece and one that Michael embraced with unyielding commitment and joy. Finally, Michael portrayed a Record Executive mogul in the underwhelming indie feature “Limp” that despite its problems, aroused the attention of both Michael Douglas' and Quentin Tarantino's production companies with speculation of future projects in the offing. Unfortunately, Michael's untimely passing thwarted what may have led a promising acting career into a burgeoning one. What is known, Michael possessed a charisma, a stare and a glare amidst an inner drive and creativity to succeed and express. One can only imagine what more he could have achieved in this space. Welcome back to Not A Bomb! This is the podcast where we dive into some of cinema's biggest box office failures and explore whether they deserve a second chance. As we roll into the summer months, Not A Bomb has decided to dedicate July to the Summer Blockbuster season. That particular time of year when film budgets seemingly have no limit. To kick off our Summer Blockbuster extravaganza, Troy and Brad tackle 2004's historical drama - The Alamo. All this is well and good, but here is what you need to know: the summer blockbuster season is May-August. That was the assignment, and Brad picked a film released in April, so we are already off to a great start! Outside of someone's inability to understand time, we hope you enjoy the episode. The Alamo is directed by John Lee Hancock and stars Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton, Jason Patric, Patrick Wilson, Jordi Molla, and Emilio Echevarria Not A Bomb just launched new designs in our Merch store! Put on your life jacket because Mike and Jay continue with their summer-themed cinematic torture showcase with the 1997 debacle that is "Speed 2 - Cruise Control!" Mike weaves and bobs through his review of this sequel no one asked for with all the dexterity of an ocean liner controlled by Willem Dafoe while Jay laughs madly like the studio executive who greenlit this mess, his dreams of mad bank replaced by the reality that Jason Patric is no Keaunu Reeves. After the second-speed main review, the guys list off their bottom five "replacements," actors or characters in movies that replace originals in subsequent installments. Next, they leap through logic hoops to pick two Keanu Reeves movies out of four in a game of Kick Two, Pick Two that will make you go "WHOA!" Finally, Mike gets his revenge for having to watch the law firm of Bullock, Patric and Dafoe by giving Jay his movie for the next episode.

The latest and greatest of Blu-rays this week have Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski disagreeing on the films of Joe Carnahan. There are two Val Kilmer projects; one certainly better than the other (though it did produce a great John Frankenheimer story) as well as some early horror from Bob Clark and a more recent one from Osgood Perkins getting an upgrade. Russell's best films gets the same 4K upgrade plus Peter talks all about Philo Vance, Bettie Page and Peter Bogdanovich reteaming with Cybill Shepherd. 0:00 - Intro 0:56 - Arrow (Narc) 10:09 – Blue Underground (Deathdream) 18:09 – Shout Factory (Gretel & Hansel, The Island of Dr Moreau) 28:32 - Sony (Thunderheart, American Hustle) 35:12 - Kino: (Philo Vance Collection, Republic Horror Collection, Teaserama, Daisy Miller) 58:31 – MPI (Coup de Chance) 1:05:12 – New Blu-ray Announcements

BAD MOVIE MONTH continues with another sequel considered to be far inferior to it's original, as we switch back to 1997 and go over Speed 2: Cruise Control. Is this movie really as bad as people remember? How amazing is Willem Dafoe? Why is Jason Patric a thing and who is he? How has Sandra Bullock changed so much from the first movie to the second? Why is this on a boat? Why don't we like any of the characters in this movie? Is the action at least entertaining? Is there some good music in this film? Why do we feel for the people of the Caribbean after their harbour is clearly destroyed forever after this movie? And why are we excited to once again talk about New Zealand's most handsome man Temuera Morrison? There's a lot to get to as always so tune in! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
Director Jan de Bont and others unfortunate enough to be involved in SPEED 2: CRUISE CONTROL (plus a few who dodged the bullet) discuss SPEED's disastrous 1997 sequel starring Jason Patric, Willem Dafoe and a returning Sandra Bullock.

We revisit a classic episode this week, and it's a good, ol' fashioned WAR DOUBLE-FEATURE!To start, we get gritty with THE BEAST OF WAR (1988), aka THE BEAST, as a vengeful group of Afghani rebels hunt a lost Soviet tank unit! It's got JASON PATRIC from THE LOST BOYS! We pair this forgotten gem with the unmatched madness of TROMA'S WAR (1988), where a plane-wrecked group runs afoul of AIDS-armed terrorists! Did we mention that it's madness? It's "War is Hell," this week on CULT AND CLASSIC Films Podcast! The film shines a light on the psychological toll and moral crisis faced by both the aggressors and those resisting their invasion. The story revolves around a Russian T-62 tank and its crew led by the hardened and ruthless commander, Daskal (played by George Dzundza). As the tank moves through the desolate Afghan landscape, tensions between the men simmer beneath the surface. They become further strained when the tank accidentally destroys an Afghan village, killing innocent civilians. The tank's skilled but conflicted mechanic, Konstantin Koverchenko (played by Jason Patric), is the moral compass of the crew. Konstantin secretly despises the atrocities committed by his fellow soldiers and harbors resentment towards the brutal tactics employed by their commander. Gradually, he becomes disillusioned with the Soviet cause. In their relentless pursuit of a small group of Afghan Mujahideen fighters led by Taj (played by Steven Bauer), the Russian tank crew finds themselves trapped inside a steep mountain gorge. As their situation becomes increasingly perilous, tensions flare up, exacerbated by the relentless pursuit of Taj and his men seeking vengeance for the destruction of their village. Amidst the claustrophobic and intense setting, The Beast of War delves deep into the psyche of the Russian tank crew. The film explores the dehumanizing effects of war and the struggle between loyalty to one's comrades and one's own conscience. The isolated and hostile environment forces the characters to confront their own fears, prejudices, and the harrowing consequences of their actions. With its stunning cinematography capturing the harsh beauty of the Afghan landscape and powerful performances by the cast, The Beast of War offers a captivating exploration of war's dark complexities. This gritty and visceral drama successfully demonstrates the far-reaching effects of war, challenging our notions of heroism and the innate humanity that lies within us all. More on TROMA'S WAR (1988): Troma's War is a cult classic action-comedy film released in 1988. Directed by Lloyd Kaufman, this satirical masterpiece takes audiences on a wild and absurd journey that parodies the conventions of war films. The story begins when a group of American tourists finds themselves stranded on a remote tropical island after their plane crashes. Unbeknownst to them, this seemingly idyllic paradise is actually the secret base of a nefarious terrorist organization. The visitors soon realize that their survival depends on banding together and fighting...
