We look at one of the most well-known parables Jesus taught this week as we study wisdom from the master, the parable of the Good Samaritan. When we study Luke chapter 10, we see that an expert in the law, or a religious person, was trying to trip up Jesus and capture him in a battle of wits. What we see is the Maker of the Universe turning this simple question of “who is my neighbor” into a wonderful lesson for us as Christians. Many of the largest problems in our lives as believers are not gross iniquities, but gross interferences. We choose not to do anything for those in need. We see in this story that two religious people encounter the poor man on the road, but only the Samaritan stopped, saw him, and took action for him. We should see our world through the loving eyes of Jesus and take action for the vulnerable no matter what their circumstances are. What ways are you seeing or not seeing people around you through the loving eyes of Jesus? How can you take an action for someone vulnerable today? If you have questions or want to get connected and put your faith in action, then take the next step or reach out – burnthickory.com/next.

10JUL22 (22cO15). We are called to be disciples by love. Love of God and neighbor. It is not be avoidance of sin, but by action. The only way we know how to properly love is by prayer which will help us to be formed in God's image of authentic love in difficult circumstances.
Out of gas. Hit a wall. Wasted. Pooped. Spent. Beat. Bushed. Drained. Dead. However you want to phrase it, the Los Angeles Kings have simply run out of energy. Following one of the league's toughest schedules in March, by all accounts and purposes, the over-performing Kings have crashed back down to the Earth in the most ungraceful manner with a stinky 0-3 road trip, in which their recent matchup against Minnesota saw them not only blow a 3-0 lead in a very short amount of time, but also surrender six goals against. Nothing about the team has been consistent over the past 74 games--aside from the consistent rash of injuries. On nights that their goaltending is superb, their offense fails to show up. When they could use some help from their goalie, both Jonathan Quick and Cal Petersen have turned in average-at-best replacement level performances. This is not to pin the team's woes on them. While they aren't performing at a Vezina quality, the skaters in front of them aren't exactly all playing at Norris/Hart/Selke levels, either. Much of that is due to the aforementioned injuries, which has seen players forced to elevate their games beyond their readiness or roles (i.e. Olli Määttä being thrust into a first pairing role or asking 21-year-old rookie in all senses Jordan Spence to be a reliable third pairing NHL defenseman). Alex Edler missed three months and has been slow in his return to the lineup. The losses of Mikey Anderson and Drew Doughty (who is now out for the rest of the season following a wrist surgery) are also weighing heavily on the blue line where Matt Roy and Määttä are forced to shoulder the load along with the rusty Edler and Troy Stecher. The former Red Wing has been a big boon to the weary Reign players, but as expected, has not been the team's saving grace--though that was never the intention in trading for him. What looked like a sure bet two weeks ago to make the playoffs is now looking like dicey odds. The Vegas Golden Knights, with a game in hand, have managed to win their way back into a bubble spot whilst the Kings have slipped into the third spot behind the red hot Edmonton Oilers with blow points against the San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks and Seattle Kraken looming large. In this short podcast episode, Sarah and Robyn discuss the team's potential to make the postseason (despite head coach Todd McLellan's insistence that this is the team's "playoffs") and how disappointing it could be if the team manages to miss out on playing more games in May. How to cut new car depreciation in half. (Dead easy.) Three easy tips in this report are all it takes. It’s like throwing a $50 bill out the window every few days. The truly insidious thing about depreciation is the way it attacks covertly. You don’t pay it to the end, when your knuckles are white and you’re waiting for the sales dude to come back with his trade-in offer. You know you’re about to get bent over, and the question is: ‘How hard? If you had to pay your depreciation once a week, perhaps in cash, at the post office (like, if that was a law) new car sales would plummet over the perceived injustice. So, I’ve got three tips for you that will cut the depreciation you pay in half - inspired by a somewhat disappointed dude named Laurie Howell, who’s one of us. One of you - whatever. "In 2017, partly on the strength of your reviews, we bought a Kia Sorento. It is a wonderful car - silent, economical, packed with features, comfortable and with enough power to do what you want. However, I recently saw an ad for a second-hand Sorento of the same spec and similar kilometres to ours and noted that it was selling at approximately 60% of what ours cost new. A quick check of other ads, and some Googling has revealed that the Sorento has one of the highest depreciation rates around - interestingly exceeded only by the CX-9. "What is behind this high depreciation rate? Has the 7 seater SUV bubble burst? It certainly doesn't seem to be anything about the car itself - in fact if you want a roomy, comfortable SUV, a second hand Sorento or CX9 would have to be a good buy I would think. Also, with such a high depreciation rate ($130 per week by my estimation) would we have been better off leasing the vehicle?" - Laurie Howell We’ll look at the data in detail, but no - no bubble bursting there, with seven-seat SUVs. Used car values are underpinned by supply and demand. In fact there’s a bubble in used cars generally at the moment - COVID-19 has caused many new car supply shortages, and that’s reduced the supply of late-model used cars in the market, because trade-ins are delayed, which has ramped up the value of whatever used cars are available. Also, leasing is not a hedge against depreciation - unless you jump into one of those ‘guaranteed future value’ deals with a manufacturer, and those are often completely extortionate in terms of the other aspects of the finance contract. There’s no free lunch on depreciation, and you cannot beat it with finance. Let’s crunch the numbers in this report.

Hello...Is anyone there?I don’t think anyone is there?Who cares...Just say what you gotta say.It don't matter anyway...Ok...Well, I just wanted to say...For the record, that there is definitely a part of me that is dead, and I didn’t kill her, someone else did.And that might be the reason I killed other pieces of my self, as a way to cope with who I’d become as a way to protect myself. And now I'm starting to think, that’s probably why I don’t feel very well.I’m missing very important pieces of myself. The pieces that make me happy. The pieces that make me feel strong and secure and confident in my body. The pieces that make me feel secure with money...And the pieces of me that love to love and that love to have fun.The pieces of me that know how to play and laugh, and sing, and dance like we’re kids. And the pieces of me that doesn’t worry about time because she’s always high on life. These are the pieces I need in order to be an awesome human being, and I don’t know if I’ll ever find her again because I don’t know how to reconnect with the dead.If I did, I’d call myself a medium and then I’d talk to my dead self and ask her how to be MySelf. And then I’d tell myself, and maybe then I’d feel more powerful in MySelf. So I guess I just wanna know...Who killed myself?Sarah Long. The version of myself I so desperately wanna be...Where is she?Where did she go when she left me?Where was I when it happened? Why don’t I know what happened? Why don’t I know where I am right now?Maybe I’m the one that’s really dead?I dunno...But it sure feels like I’m trapped between worlds. Half dead, half alive...Is this what happens when we die by suicide? As a way to protect myself from the abuse, my Monster always put me through...Who knows. But what I do know is, life is a slippery slope, isn't it?A roller coaster ride of highs and lows, and we all know how easy it is to lose YourSelf, if you don't get off the ride once and awhile. If you don’t stop and get still and listen to your higher Self. You will lose control. Trust me I know. That’s why I got off the ride when cancer tried to take me out.Which does make me wonder if maybe getting off the ride feels like I died because it’s like a whole new life on the other side?So maybe I’m in the afterlife? As you can see, so many questions I have no answers too, and quite frankly, I find myself very confusing to listen too.Which is why it’s nice to talk to you...And I want you to know, I will find out the truth when I get to the roots of who killed Sarah Long. That’s what the investigation is all about. I’m out. *** Get all the Art Stories at http://www.ArtistSarahLong.com*** Buy her alcohol ink art paintings, at http://www.ArtistSarahLongStore.com.****@ArtistSarahLong on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube

The crew finishes the fight, and then immediately starts another one, but manages to finish that one too. Yay Victory? Craig Finn is best known for his distinctive vocal and lyrical style thanks to The Hold Steady in the 2000s. But while that band channeled Bruce Springsteen, The Replacements and The Band for musical inspiration, his 1990s outfit Lifter Puller took a decidedly more angular approach with nods to Television, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Pavement. Digging into 1997's sophomore released Half Dead and Dynamite, the drugged up and drunken stories familiar to Finn fans are there, but the band backing him presents a different sonic approach, eschewing bombast and power chords for jagged rhythms and Radioshack keyboards. The Lord Jesus told many stories to give us apt illustrations of ourselves. In the parable of the good Samaritan, there is a poor man ambushed on the road and left destitute. There were two people who came across the poor man, but they did nothing to help him. At last there was a despised Samaritan who freely gave of himself to save the dying man. Who do these people in the parable represent? And which one applies to ourselves personally? Listen to this message to find out.
In this episode of Filling in the Gaps, Darren and Justin look at 3 versions on a similar theme. There is the movie Cube, an interesting short film done by Jim Henson, and a game called Half Dead which looks very much like Cube. Akbar Sheikh has had more of a rollercoaster ride to success than most people. Like so many recent college graduates Akbar did not know what he wanted to do with his life. This led him down a rough path. Akbar bounced around jobs that he hated, including selling cars at one point which made him a living, but he was miserable doing it. He did not enjoy being so “salesy,” Akbar wanted to do good for the world in his work. He hit many low points before finding his way, including being homeless for a period of time not too long ago and living in a janitor’s closest. He turned to partying to mask what was going on inside, and everything came crashing down the night he should have died at the hospital. Akbar changed his life as soon as he left the hospital. He quit partying and lost 50lbs. He also found online sales and tremendous success; making millions along the way. I typically steer clear of online marketers or salespeople as guests for the podcast, but Akbar is different from most. Besides, his crazy story to success, it’s what he is doing with his money that caught my attention. Akbar was awarded Top 30 Social Entrepreneur of the year in 2017 because of all the fantastic work he is doing. He has a mission to end world hunger among other noble causes. He is now helping entrepreneurs build their business online using his success tools, with one catch. Each person he works with must have a business with purpose, and they must donate at least 10% of new earnings to a worthy cause doing good in the world. Akbar is an awesome guy with a great outlook on the world and life, and provides a great conversation! What a tremendous character we have on the show this week. It really is difficult to know where to start with Akbar Sheikh. From being homeless and taking refuge in a San Francisco utility cupboard, he’s gone on to conquer the world of business, and even better, he’s now giving something back. His epiphany came on a day when his network marketing business brought in $25,000, but he realised he felt so much more enjoyment from the free consultancy he’d given a not-for-profit business on that same day. He now works with a charity in Africa that cures children from blindness, as well as a charity in San Francisco that provides mattresses for the homeless. See below for some Akbar’s amazing tips on life and marketing: ** Most people fail at the fundamentals. They’re always looking for the next big thing, but if you have a foundation you can scale to seven figures. ** Stop what you’re doing if you hate it. Remember Einstein’s famous quote: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” ** You won’t have a successful business unless you stop your bad life habits. ** Think about scaling and growth every day. Don’t stand still or you will become bitter. ** Do organic marketing before paid marketing - it helps prove the concept. ** Make your content regular - keep feeding the machine. ** It isn’t difficult to create content - it’s just documenting your everyday reality. ** You are who you spend your time with. Hang with the right people and you will take the right path. ** Find a ‘why’ in life that makes you cry. Motivation becomes completely automatic once you do. In this episode of Business Brain Food you will learn: ** The definition of a funnel ** The ethical 7 principles of sales ** The tools you need for a successful online business ** The value of organic marketing ** How to make producing content easy ** How Akbar got 8 million in traffic without paying for any online advertising Resources mentioned in this episode: ** Free business advice and tools from Ben: http://www.maxmyprofit.com.au ** Get Akbar’s international bestselling book (normally $47) for FREE here ** Akbar’s Facebook group: The 2 comma club ** The Business Brain Food Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/businessbrainfood ** All previous BBF episodes & show notes can be found at http://www.businessbrainfood.com.au ** Twitter: https://twitter.com/bfewtrell Call to action: This is an unarguably insightful quote from a man who’s lived one heck of a life: “As business people we are artists. We need a clean and clear canvas in our mind.” Also, if you are enjoying these Business Brain Food podcasts, then make sure to share them via social media sites or email the links to family and friends. A lot of time and effort goes into producing each of these podcasts with the goal in mind of the more people we can inspire about business the better. You can help us do just that! Until next time, have a profitable day! Cheers, Ben Fewtrell (02) 9111 5000

This time in 2006 was the last time I saw Bobby Pickett alive. When he came to the BluePower studio he told us he wasn't well and jokingly said, "We'd better make this a good show as it may be my last."I don't think it was quite Bobby's last show but very close. On the 25th of April, 2007, the world lost a wonderful human being and a gifted entertainer.I can't think of a better show for Halloween than this show featuring our dear departed friend....Bobby Pickett. _____________________________________________Ever since I've known Bob, I have marveled at his elegance of manner, his ultra-quick wit and his well focused insight to character. We have recorded dozens of commercials and a whole lot of bits together. (He as talent and I as engineer) Through hours of being on the other side of the glass, I gained a great deal of respect for this talented man's work.Forty-five years ago, a tiny record lable called GARPAX released a single (45 rpm record) to the world. The A side, written by Bob and Lenny Capeci is titled "Monster Mash" and has become synonymous with the holiday, Halloween. There are very few people in the world whom haven't heard, "They did the mash....they did the Monster Mash. It was a graveyard smash!"And smash it was. This one song has kept Bobby "Boris" Pickett in groceries for forty-five years. and....as Bob mentions, "It's more than paid the rent."Bob will be appearing at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Secaucus, New Jersey on the 27th, 28th and 29th of October at the 16th Annual Chiller Theatre Expo along with Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman), the enchanting Elvira, plus Adam West and Burt Ward of Batman fame. His book, Monster Mash, Half Dead In Hollywood is a tremendous read and tells Mr. Pickett's history from the time he was born through today. Bob tells the truth about Hollywood and the denizens that dwell there. As Mr. Pickett says...."They drag me out for one night a year. It's my time to howl."It's good to hear you howl again my friend.Tonight's music is....1)...."It's Alive"....Bobby "Boris" Pickett2)...."Dead Man's Party"....Oingo-Boingo3)...."Monster Mash"....Bobby "Boris" Pickett4)...."Gallow's Pole"....Jimmy Page and Robert Plant5)...."Werewolves Of London"....Warren Zevon6)...."Sinister Stomp"....Bobby "Boris" Pickett7)...."Got My Mojo Workin' "....Muddy Waters8)...."Blood Bank Blues"....Bobby "Boris" PickettIncidental music composed by: Dave Roberts. The picture of Bobby Pickett at the top of the page was taken by Jimmy Wachtel during the recording of Pickett's version of Warren Zevon's, "Werewolves Of London".Listen to....Half Dead In Hollywood....With Guest....Bobby "Boris" Pickett!Go to the superb website of Bobby "Boris" Pickett!Have a safe and sane HALLOWEEN!
