Welcome to more spooky season goodness. This year, at the beginning of October in fact, marks the 75th anniversary of Peanuts. It's the 59th anniversary of the animated special It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, but the 66th anniversary of the first mention of the Great Pumpkin from 1959! So to celebrate all those, and the fact that James just read this book, we're discussing the book "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, the Making of a Television Classic" by Lee Mendelson (with remembrances by Bill Melendez). We won't give it all away. You should go buy the book. But we do talk about a few neat things, regarding the making of the show, between this and other found interviews. So pour yourself a pint of pumpkin juice and enjoy with sincerity! Next week's midweek spooky season episode is on the spooky haunts of Mulligan's (Dublin) Pub. We're 10 days into the 31 Days of Halloween and I feel like we need a palate cleanser. Recently, we've been talking about reanimating dead bodies, torturous twins, eating warm pizza off of cold corpses. I think it's time we take the holiday back to a more innocent, nostalgic time, where we only concern ourselves with what costume we're gonna wear and how much candy we can score.IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN is a 1966 TV special directed by José Cuauhtémoc "Bill" Melendez starring Charles M. Schulz' gallery of PEANUTS characters: Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Sally, Snoopy, the works.Linus, in lieu of trick-or-treating, elects to spend his Halloween night sitting in the pumpkin patch, waiting for The Great Pumpkin to arrive and give him a pile of presents. It's a reward for sincerity. Most of the others think Linus is crazy for believing in a C-grade Santa, but there's something admirable in Linus' valuing honesty of one's motives rather than the transactional element of trading "goodness" for material wealth. The movie operates more like a hodge-podge of PEANUTS strips and gags than as its own singular narrative but much like the ways in which memory flashes through our heads, the mosaic of musings about Halloween and the fall season leads to a highly emotional, nostalgic appreciation for the good times.Though if anyone were to ever give my kid a rock instead of candy, I'd slingshot that fucker through their teeth.---Follow, rate and review THE MOVIES wherever you listen to podcasts!Follow THE MOVIES on Instagram, Bluesky & Letterboxd

This Halloween, everyone's worst nightmare arrives early—and it's not a ghost or ghoul. Like an overzealous holiday guest, Christmas is creeping into October, hijacking spooky season without a care for Halloween traditions. In this week's episode, Amanda sets the stage with a hilarious rant on premature Christmas decor invading superstores and threatening our beloved Halloween vibes. Meanwhile, Trevin gives us an update on his ongoing battle with a body-focused repetitive behavior, offering insights as sharp as a haunted fingernail. The “Would You Rather” segment dives into delightfully twisted territory: Trevin's question has listeners calling people “Daddy” and throwing in a pelvic thrust, while Amanda contemplates whether you'd rather wipe your memories or live the same day on repeat. For story time, Trevin spins a tale of a “spooky bitch” who just wants a fun Halloween but finds his night marred by fear-mongering courtesy of Fox News. Amanda follows with the saga of a mischievous couple whose Halloween decor goes from festive to frightful, crossing the line into pure pettiness. Both stories bring back the fan-favorite “Pumpkin Everything” song and include an unexpected dash of Christmas spirit. Halloween purists, brace yourselves: it's time to tell Christmas, “Get back to December, where you belong!” Today's Stories: Fear News The Grinch Who Stole Halloween (Discussions include: Christmas, Stores Holiday Decor, Halloween section, Christmas section, nail biting, OCD, body image, mindfulness, lawn mowing, self-control, long nails, Sean Kory, Conservative Media, Daddy Issues, Groundhog Day, Happy Death Day, Palm Springs, Memory Loss, Mom Problems, Fear, Political Humor, Jeremy Meeks, Sexy Criminal, Santa Cruz, California, Scary Stories, Halloween Story, General Mills Monster Cereal, Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Serena Williams, Tennis Racket, Autumn, Fall Time, Cabot, Arkansas, Tim Minchue, Melissa Minchue, Baby Doll, Baby Jesus, Manger, bad neighbors) Join our Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/livelaughlarcenydoomedcrew For ad-free episodes and lots of other bonus content, join our Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/LiveLaughLarceny Check out our website: HereFollow us on Instagram: HereFollow us on Facebook: HereFollow us on TikTok: HereFollow us on Twitter: Here If you have a crime you'd like to hear on our show OR have a personal petty story, email us at livelaughlarceny@gmail.com or send us a DM on any of our socials!

The Babadook! Or is it Therapy Babadook? Stop me if you've heard this one- Three therapists sit down to discuss The Babadook, but one of them thought they'd be discussing It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Back in 2009, I recorded a podcast about It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. It was a childhood favorite and a podcast that many people have emailed me about over the years. So now that I am committed to revisiting some of my older episodes, this one went straight to the top of the list. It's a great subject to cover at this time of year, and I hope you enjoy it. I start the episode by talking about a memorable time when I watched the show. If you've listened to the podcast or read the blog, you probably know that I like to make an event out of things. This story demonstrates the lengths I would go to. I wouldn't recommend anyone try what I did, especially at the age I was, but in the end, it was rewarding. Then I dive into the special itself. I discuss the people in front of and behind the camera, its production, music, and much more. I also reference some newspaper articles, and I will share my clippings over on Patreon tomorrow. It really isn't Halloween without watching the Peanuts special, and I make sure to watch it every year. Schulz was a brilliant cartoonist, and as I mention in the episode, it's amazing how much of what appeared on the screen originated in his comic strip. He was a prolific creative genius who, for half a century, helped define and interpret American pop culture.
This time, Chris offers up a twofer of animated Halloween specials, the latter a towering classic of the genre, the former an oft-forgotten footnote to its Christmas counterpart: Halloween is Grinch Night, and It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Suffice to say the broad approach to the Halloween cartoon doesn't get much further apart than these two, but who cares when the weather's so cozy*? *It's actually miserably hot at Now We Know studios at time of recording, so we will enjoy our hot spiced cider vicariously through you tonight.

Atari's Star Wars the Arcade Game was released 40 years ago and quickly became one of the most popular arcade games of all time. With groundbreaking innovations and real Star Wars sounds, it's still fun to play. Jay and Shua try their best to use the Force on Enjoy Stuff! Join us in the arcade as we look back on the iconic stand-up (and sit-down) game Star Wars the Arcade Game. News Get ready for the release of a new Atari 2600 that will play your old games too! Star Wars - Dark Forces is getting a remastered release for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch It's time for your Halloween and fall cereals and merchandise including It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown cereal, Rice Krispies, and more The trailer for Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon has gotten some people excited, but is it a little too derivative? Check out our TeePublic store for some enjoyable swag and all the latest fashion trends What we're Enjoying On a recent vacation trip, Jay checked out a legendary Candy store in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania called Mr Ed's Elephant Museum & Candy Emporium. It's a fun store with a nice nostalgic feeling. Plus, Mr. Ed's is to elephants what Rancho Obi-Wan is to Star Wars. A gigantic collection of crazy pachyderms. Shua enjoyed the pride he felt when dropped off his youngest to her new college in Rhode Island. With some stops in Boston and other scenic places along the way, his emotions were bubbling over, so let's keep him distracted. Enjoy Video Games! Riding the hype of the newly released Return of the Jedi, Atari released a new game that used a variety of techniques to display the graphics. Using the mathematical based vector graphic method, they sacrificed the solid shapes of a raster game, with the sharper, faster electron beam method. It included 3 levels that would get increasingly difficult. A Tie Fighter battle, flying along the surface shooting towers, and a run down the Death Star trench challenged the player and put you right in the center of the movie action. A stand-up and a sit-down “cockpit” version were available, making fans even more excited to feel like they were a part of the story. Plus, it was the first game to use digitized voices and music (and they were straight from the movie!) And the developers hid (rebelliously) a bunch of Easter eggs including their own names. A simple game with line graphics and yet we are still excited to play it. Did you get to play the arcade version of Star Wars? How many levels can you clear? First person that emails me with the subject line, “R2, try to increase the power!” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com

"I hear the Great Pumpkin!" To celebrate the Halloween holiday, this episode takes a fond look back at the TV special that was a staple in autumn-flavored pop culture for the past 56 years. Burning questions about it that have gone unanswered since I was a kid abound, as well as the usual behind-the-scenes fun facts, poll results, listener trivia segment, and shout-outs!
Trick-or-Treat, it's Halloween 2022 and Uncle Jim is celebrating with a classic complete and uncut, It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Released in 1966, it became an instant classic. Speaking of classics, we'll play the original Thriller mini-movie, and that's not all, what would Halloween be without Ghostbusters, A Nightmare on My Street, The Monster Mash, and we wrap up with the Time Warp. Sit back for the next hour, and enjoy. Happy Halloween.

Tom is out sick with covid this week, so guest co-host Andrew Gregory (from Punch Up The Jam and The Gregory Brothers) joins Tim as we kick off Halloween Month with the spookiest episode yet -- a discussion about the classic 1966 made-for-TV cartoon movie It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! We unpack everything about this Halloween special that for some reason devotes a third of it's running time to a dog pretending to be a WWI fighter pilot, and try to figure out exactly what Lucy's deal is.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
