Twiggy turned the modelling world upside down with her androgynous style, big round eyes, bold eyelashes, and pixie haircut, becoming a defining figure and fashion icon of the swinging 60s. Considered the world's first supermodel, she went on to have a successful career in acting and singing, earning two Golden Globes and a Tony nomination, designed fashion ranges, appeared as a judge on America's Next Top Model, and was awarded a damehood for services to the fashion, arts and charity. A new documentary, Twiggy, directed by Sadie Frost, is out in cinemas now. Twiggy joined Krupa Padhy to talk about her long career.Kyle Clifford was found guilty of raping his ex-girlfriend in an attack in which he murdered her, her mother and her sister. Louise, Hannah and Carol Hunt were murdered two weeks after Louise ended her relationship with him. It has been revealed that prosecutors said "violent misogyny" promoted by social media influencer Andrew Tate "fuelled" his attacks. However, the defence argued this material had too vague a link and was far too prejudicial to be heard by the jury. As we hear this news, concerns rise again about the influence of people like self-described misogynist Andrew Tate, and there are calls for his content to be taken down. Anita was joined by Michael Conroy, founder of Men at Work, which works with teachers and boys in schools to challenge sexist and misogynistic content online and Laura Bates, founder of the Everyday Sexism project who campaigns for gender equality to discuss how we can protect our children from, especially boys, from this.Journalist and disability activist Lucy Edwards has just published her debut fiction book, Ella Jones vs the Sun Stealer, a mystery aimed at younger readers. She joined Krupa to talk about the book and her experiences sharing her own story online. We discuss the extraordinary story of how and why an autistic woman was locked up in a mental health hospital for 45 years. For 25 of those she was in long term segregation. Nuala McGovern talked to reporter Carolyn Atkinson about how the woman was eventually freed and to campaigner Alexis Quinn who is autistic and spent three years in a mental health hospital including time in segregation before she escaped. She now campaigns for the Restraint Reduction Network charity about the more than 2,000 other autistic people and or those with learning disabilities who are still in mental health hospitals, many of whom shouldn't be. In May 2015, 20 year-old Mhairi Black was the youngest person for more than a century to become a Member of Parliament – and she then remained a Westminster MP until standing down at the 2024 election. A new BBC documentary follows her last six months in that role and looks at what her future could hold in a new career as a stand-up comedian. Now 30, she joined Anita Rani to reflect on her years in Parliament and what she'd like to see change about the way it functions.Nieve Ella is currently on tour, playing to packed venues and solidifying her place as a rising star in indie music. Yes, we made Simon put on a VR headset thingy—and yes, we did laugh at him whilst he wandered blindly around the room thinking he was in 19th century Germany. That's because he was experiencing ‘Trailblazer', a VR experience telling the forgotten story of Bertha Benz, the woman behind the wheel of the world's first automobile in the first road trip ever taken. Simon chats to the voice of Trailblazer, Star-Wars star Daisy Ridely and creator Eloise Singer. Plus reviews this week of ‘Twiggy', Sadie Frost's doc about the titular teenage model sensation and 60s icon; ‘One Of Them Days'—a comedy caper starring Keke Palmer and SZA as two broke best friends trying to raise a month's rent after losing it to a deadbeat boyfriend—and Bong Joon Ho's big follow-up to ‘Parasite', ‘Mickey 17'. She was a part of the Primrose Hill set, married to Jude Law, and friends with Kate Moss. The action-packed life of actress/producer/fashion designer Sadie Frost from the heady days of the nineties through 30 years in the entertainment industry, navigating media scandals, phone hacking, and a highly publicised divorce. On this week's episode of the On a Mission podcast, Sadie shares the lessons she's learned from 30 years in the entertainment industry and how she has built the strength and emotional resilience to pursue a life that's true to who she really is. Now, 30 years after her first starring role in Hollywood blockbuster Francis Ford Coppola's vampire classic, she is back on the big screen, taking the world by storm as a director and filmmaker. But it's been an incredible journey of self-discovery getting to this point. KEY TAKEAWAYS Sadie had a diverse upbringing, growing up in a hippie environment and being exposed to alternative practices such as yoga, meditation, and holistic healing from a young age. It was Sadie's raw ambition and drive to succeed in the entertainment industry which led to a scholarship at Italia Conti and a career in acting and modelling. Sadie definitely experienced the negative effects of fame and media scrutiny, including phone hacking and sensationalised stories, which impacted her mental health and relationships. We as a society of fame-watchers, must do better. Always focus on the importance of kindness, understanding, and support for those struggling with mental health issues, as well as the need to challenge societal norms and stereotypes. Sadie's journey towards wellness and self-care includes practices such as meditation, breathwork, grounding, and the companionship of a pet, which have helped her navigate challenges and find peace of mind. BEST MOMENTS "People just need to be thoughtful of how someone else is feeling and support people that are struggling." "I think the press like to kind of manufacture, they like to kind of create a kind of persona about people and things. Something would be written and it would be manipulated and changed." "I did get stronger, but I do resent the fact that I lost that time sometimes with the children and I couldn't have the normal things that you want to do with your kids." - Interviewee "You could very easily get a picture of someone blinking and say they're drunk!" You will see yourself in her challenges and learn how she has managed them.  We discuss:  The shock of our children becoming adults and how to manage this transition.  The challenge of living alone and how to keep oneself balanced in order to connect effectively with friends and family.  How to manage one's childhood self that can sometimes override one's adult self. Particularly given the trauma of her past.  How she has learnt what really matters in life How one's relationship with time changes - over time!  How the joy of small things gives us peace. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 4:30 We'll be off for three weeks and back on April 29th. I got my first pair of Crocs and have been watching Fire Country. Chandra is watching Ted Lasso. Royals: Minutes 4:30 to 22:30 This week Prince Harry made a surprise appearance in London in his case against Associated Newspapers. He and other plaintiffs like Elton John and Sadie Frost are suing them for surveillance and harassment. Harry issued written testimony on Tuesday and it was damning to his family. Prince Harry's presence at the hearing has brought so much attention to it. After that came out, a royal source told The Daily Beast that Harry's statement has “torpedoed any remaining bridges” with his family. It's curious that the Windsors are acting like Harry is attacking them when the case is against the Daily Mail. The Telegraph reported that Charles was too busy to see him. Charles was at Highgrove after his trip to France was canceled so he wasn't too busy. Will and Kate are conveniently out of town too because their kids are on break. Camilla Tominey accused Harry of upstaging Charles' big trip. The Sussexes upstage the Windsors partly because the British press has built them up so much with negative reporting. We still don't know whether Harry and Meghan will come to the Coronation. There was a story that if Harry does come to the coronation, he won't have to bow to Camilla! There was an offensive article in The Times about how world leaders love Charles and want to meet him. Biden isn't going to the coronation and he's not planning on visiting Charles during a visit to Northern Ireland in April. Charles has a history of taking bribes from despots. Meanwhile Charles is evicting and firing people. He's trying to cut staff and end subsidized housing and London apartments for royals. He might evict the Queen's royal dresser, Angela Kelly, from her grace and favor cottage, which is what she deserves. He did appoint Rose Hanbury's husband, David Rocksavage, as his lord-in-waiting though! Kate's private secretary we heard so much about, Alison Corfield, declined the job. She's been working for Jamie Oliver for eight years and chose to stay at that position rather than work for Kate. Kate has been without a full time private secretary since last summer. This should have been a huge story but there's been no follow up since the announcement. Trump got indicted: Minutes 22:30 to 29:30 In this section recorded Friday we talk about Trump being indicted on over 30 counts of business fraud, Gwyneth Paltrow winning her court case and Samantha Markle's defamation case being thrown out. Comments of the Week: Minutes 29:30 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from girl_ninja on the story about Prince Harry “torpedoing bridges” with his family. My comment of the week is from Frippery on the post about Gwyneth Paltrow at court. Thanks for listening bitches!

What better way to close out this scary season than to revisit a gothic horror romance from one of our greatest living directors, Francis Ford Coppola, who directed The Godfather Trilogy among several other modern classics.  This adaptation of the classic 1897 vampire novel of course tells the epic tale of Count Dracula himself played with wild abandon by Gary Oldman clad in various memorable costumes and under gobs of convincing make-up depending on the scene – the story focuses on his star-crossed romance with Mina played by Winona Ryder.  The cast also includes Keanu Reeves, Anthony Hopkins, and Sadie Frost among several other notable actors.  Happy 30th Anniversary to a blood-soaked story where Love Never Dies.Host: Geoff Gershon  Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 3:30 We'll be off next week and back on October 29th. My dog got kicked out of puppy kindergarten. Here's a link to the Twitter thread about that I mentioned. Royals: Minutes 3:30 to 21:30 We've been hearing for some time that the palace is worried about the upcoming fifth season of The Crown. The Windsors were pleased with it up until last season when Diana was introduced. We're hearing that the palace wants a fiction warning added. By freaking out about The Crown, Charles is bringing more attention to it. Prince Philip and his mistress Penny Knatchbull's relationship will be shown this season. Prince Charles' coronation will supposedly only be an hour but it will likely have other events that last the whole day. They're saying it won't be as opulent as Queen Elizabeth's coronation. There's a controversy over the crown that Camilla will wear as it has the Koh-i-noor diamond stolen from Indian. The coronation date is on May 6th, which will be Archie's fourth birthday. Chandra doesn't think this was even a factor in the planning. It's not known yet whether the Sussexes are invited, the royals are probably waiting to see what's in Harry's memoir. We're also hearing that Harry's memoir and their Netflix docuseries will be out in December. Prince Harry is suing Associated Newspapers, the parent company of The Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, along with Elton John and David Furnish, Elizabeth Hurley, Sadie Frost, and Baroness Doreen Lawrence, whose son Stephen Lawrence was murdered in a racist hate crime in 1993. It's over spying and surveillance. Omid Scobie reported in his column this week that Harry would take the stand if it came to that. Will and Kate are covering People Magazine this week. They're one of two covers along with Christopher Meloni. The coverage claims Will is going to step up running the Duchy of Cornwall and that they're supposedly embracing a heavier workload and their increased visibility. The Cambridges did a radio program for World Mental Health Day. The segment they released to their social media was so bad. Will just talked about a “toolbox” without giving examples. They should phase this issue out of their charity portfolio as they're lightweights. William is said to have spent last weekend at Balmoral alone without his wife and kids. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about an humanitarian award the Sussexes are getting in December. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: Minutes 21:30 to 29:45 In January, 2021, Angelina sent an email to Brad offering to sell him her half of the Miraval wine business. This was released as part of her defense in Pitt's lawsuit against her for selling to Stoli. We also heard a statement from Angelina's lawyer that Brad hasn't denied his abuse of her and the kids. Brad had been cutting Angelina out of the business and was spending money in ways she hadn't approved. He doesn't seem to care about this at all and is on the  current cover of Billboard Magazine to show off the renovated music studio in Miraval. We are also hearing that he wants to sell his production company, Plan B. Chandra thinks Pitt has been bleeding money from that business and that he's cash poor. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about Brad and Angelina. Comments of the week: Minutes 29:45 to end My Comments of the week are from Janey and MrsFonzieFace on Peridot's post about Jonathan Majors covering Men's Health and getting in incredible shape. Chandra's comment of the week is from Coco on the post about Brad Pitt trying to sell Plan B. Thanks for listening bitches!

The Daily Mail Group - Associated Newspapers - has been accused of 'abhorrent criminal activity' by Doreen Lawrence - mother of the murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence. She's lodged a claim in the High Court along with Prince Harry, Elton John, David Furnish, Elizabeth Hurley, Sadie Frost and former Lib Dem MP Simon Hughes. They allege the papers engaged in unlawful acts - including the hiring of private detectives to hide listening devices inside people's cars and homes. On today's episode of The News Agents we take our listeners into the 'dark arts' of journalism from the people who actually exploited others to get their stories. One is a private investigator who hacked Meghan Markle's data. One was a reporter for the News of the World who was convicted of phone hacking, blew the whistle on his bosses, and now campaigns for better press regulation. We ask what has happened in the decade since the Leveson enquiry threw a spotlight onto the unscrupulous and illegal way that so many tabloid stories were obtained. The government has lost its appetite for any further press regulation. But has the public? And how likely is it that further allegations will emerge of as a result of this new case? The Blackwater Lightship is a novel by Colm Tóibín, published in 1999 and shortlisted for the Booker Prize. It was later made into a film and has now been dramatized for the Dublin Theatre Festival. Set in the early nineties, it tells of a young gay man suffering from AIDS who visits his grandmother in rural Wexford and the repercussions his arrival has on her, his mother, and sister. Elle talks to the writer and director David Horan about adapting the novel for the stage, and the issues it raises about mother-daughter relationships and attitudes to AIDS then and now. On the 40th anniversary of the First National Black Art Convention, held at Wolverhampton Polytechnic, and an accompanying exhibition at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, we look at that foundational moment for black art now, 40 years on. Elle speaks to Marlene Smith, artist, curator, and a founding member of the BLK Art Group, and to Alice Correia - art historian and editor of a new collection of documents from that time. Plus filmmaker Kirsty Bell discusses her directorial debut, A Bird Flew In - set during lockdown, and featuring a stellar cast, including Sadie Frost, Derek Jacobi, and Frances Barber. My guests this week have both lived fascinating lives. Both have experienced ups and downs. Both are now 55 and have found themselves in this place in life that has brought them a surprising new power. Actress, producer, businesswoman and compulsive learner Sadie Frost and award winning actress and singer/songwriter Frances Ruffelle first met at school in 1976 (when they were the scruffy, noisy, naughty ones at the back!) and have been firm friends ever since. They are also both yoga addicts, so it made perfect sense for them to launch their new business, Yin & Tonic, that combines short soothing routines with mindful music. I zoomed in with the life long besties to talk about how their 45 year friendship is more important than any marriage, being in the middle of the “muddy soup” of menopause (insomnia!) and why Sadie's looking forward to finally “leaving home” at 55. And yoga, of course. I also got raging house envy.Find Yin & Tonic's yoga sessions on youtube. You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at Bookshop.org, including the book that accompanies this podcast, The Shift: how I lost and found myself after 40 - and you can too by Sam Baker. The Shift (on life after 40) with Sam Baker is created and hosted by Sam Baker and edited by Emily Sandford. It literally transformed everything.'Although she had a natural eye for pinpointing the shot, she admits it took a while to get up to speed with the technical side. ‘I was 26 years old when I started, and I didn't always get the shot that was in my mind's eye because I didn't have the technical experience. So, when it started to come together and truly gel, it was amazing.'Black and white landscape photography was Debbi's first love, using the Olympus Pen D2 35mm film camera. ‘I was slightly obsessed with clouds,' she says. ‘You could get so many nuanced shades within both black and white – to me, it almost became colour.'Debbi's impressive portfolio includes high-fashion editorial for the likes of Italian Vogue, and interiors, but it's her striking mono portraits that have helped make her mark in the photography world. Echoes of provocative fashion photographer Helmut Newton and Terry O'Neill (the British photographer often hailed as one of the greatest celebrity photographers of the 20th century) are visible in her work, but her portraits are fast becoming iconic in their own right.‘In a way, people's faces are similar to landscapes,' she says. ‘Their bone structure, lines and the way they look at certain angles are what I work with. It's then about capturing their essence.'“I love the incredible quality of image you get with this camera.”Well-known faces she has immortalised include a rakish Paul Weller getting fitted for a suit, actress Sadie Frost and actor Damian Lewis. ‘I love colour, but I always seem to veer back to black and white,' Debbi explains. ‘It's a medium that seems to ‘own' it when it comes to portraits. I know instantly when I meet the subject which direction I'll go in.'London-based Clark says she doesn't get star-struck, apart from a commission to shoot the photographer's photographer – Lord Snowdon – at his own studio at home in Kensington in 2012. Snowdon wore a suit and rather serious demeanour and suggested Debbi harness the studio's natural light during the session, which she shot on an Olympus OM-D E-M5.Keen to go her own way, she initially used an LED daylight panel from the left side, but Snowdon still pressed for his original idea: ‘And of course he was right,' Debbi says. ‘As I admitted that out loud, the smallest little smile formed on his face and that was the shot. He became truly alive in that moment because he had shared something he was passionate about.'A drive to share her own knowledge and inspire others led Debbi to set up the Sir Hubert von Herkomer Arts Foundation in 2013. Aimed at providing a gateway to photography and the arts for underprivileged and gifted children between the ages of five and 18, it has also led to a successful collaboration with Olympus who recently provided 12 EPL-8 cameras for a pop-up summer project in Camden, London, where the novice photographers shot a film documentary, music video and mini-exhibition.The project has also seen Debbi using her beloved Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II at every opportunity. She says: ‘I've worked with lots of cameras – including Nikon and Canon – but the clarity with the Olympus is beyond comparison. I love the incredible quality of image you get with this camera, but it's far more than that. The huge amount of manual control you have is brilliant, the autofocus system is quick and intelligent to use, the ISO range is fantastic and of course, the four-thirds sensor on this beauty is insane! It all comes together to make this camera one of the best I've used – and believe me, I've tried quite a few!'Debbi Clark accepts private commissions. The late aughts had “Twilight,” but in the early 90s, vampire fans were sinking their teeth into “Interview with the Vampire” and “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” — and today, these two movies are the subject of a bloody good podcast episode. Raf explains how these films were groundbreaking in many ways, from portraying vampires as creatures worthy of sympathy to featuring a gay subtext that was rarely seen in the era's big-budget films. Sarah admits she hasn't seen these movies as many times as Raf has, but she does approve of Gary Oldman’s “Victorian Geddy Lee” look.In many ways, these two films are as different as night and day. Both hosts agree that “Dracula” is beautiful but boring, despite Sadie Frost’s amazing Lucy (and in spite of Anthony Hopkins' scenery-chewing Van Helsing). “Interview,” meanwhile, suffers from Brad Pitt's Louis — who Sarah dubs "sullen furniture" — but sparkles thanks to Tom Cruise's charming sociopath Lestat and Kirsten Dunst’s fantastic baby vampire Claudia, as well as Latinx representation and the afore-mentioned gay subtext. But why do women suffer so much more than men in both films? And is living forever an eternal party, or an eternal funeral? The hosts try to find some answers that don't suck.
