We celebrate our FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY by watching one of our all time favorite horror movies: RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. Join us as we huff Trioxin 245 and dance nude in the cemetery. In our final segment we revisit our original rankings of the series and maybe make some adjustments.
We revisit the first sequel of RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. We didn't love it then. How do we feel about it now? Listen and find out.In our final segment The Voice of Kill Streak himself, Ryan Martin, joins us for a segment called TRICK OR TREAT!
This week we're revisiting Brian Yuzna's tale of doomed lovers RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 3.In our third segment we rate the compatibility and sex lives of horror movie couples!
Sometimes....Dead is Better This week, we are joined by returning guest, Anastasia Elfman to dig up the horror of Pet Sematary (1989), the unsettling Stephen King adaptation directed by Mary Lambert and starring Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby, Fred Gwynne, and a murderous toddler you'll never forget. They unpack what makes this film so brutally effective—especially for parents—while roasting Louis Creed for being the world's worst doctor, husband, and homeowner. From zombie cats to Wendigo lore and that unforgettable Zelda nightmare fuel, we're diving deep into grief, guilt, and gore. Plus, a few rants about embalming logistics, 80s parenting fails, and the movie's weirdly psychic side characters. The year 1993 may not be full of what we may say are heavy hitters, but it was still a year with a few good horror movies. We break down our top 5 films from 5 to 1 in a round robin style. Peppermint is a multifaceted artist, all-around entertainer, and a self-proclaimed horror movie buff. Its second season just premiered and you can stream it right now.Peppermint joins us to talk about Survival of the Thickest, her very personal audition process for the show, and some questionable camp/incredibly campy horror films: Sleepaway Camp and Return of the Living Dead. We close out #PrisonMarch 2: Second Offense with an interview with someone who there at New World from the very beginning: editor Barbara Pokras! After graduating from USC (where she went to school with Dan O'Bannon with whom she would work on RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD), Barbara found her way to Roger Corman's newly-formed New World Pictures, where she went to work dubbing voices and assisting director Stephanie Rothman on New World's first ever movie, THE STUDENT NURSES. From there, Barbara worked on a variety of movies Roger shot in the Phillipines, like NIGHT OF THE COBRA WOMAN, THE HOT BOX, and THE BIG BUST-OUT! We discuss what it was like to work on those movies, how Barbara worked her way up to joining the Editor's Union and landing a job at Cop Rock, the short-lived police procedural musical, and why it was her favorite job. We also discuss I ESCAPED FROM DEVIL'S ISLAND, TOO HOT TO HANDLE, and why Wonder Woman was not her favorite project to work on. We could not have been more thrilled to talk with Barbara Pokras, one of Corman's original film school graduates, and we know you'll love our discussion as much as we did! And when you're done, don't forget to pick up her book, Feeding Mrs. Moskowitz, here. Zombie month continues with RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, a nihilist zombie horror-comedy that's both as authentically punk and fake Hollywood punk as you can get. Either way, the energy is good, the special effects are good, the characters are good, and Rowan, Kev, and guest Zack Handlen are all here having a great time.
It's not a far stretch to say that if a movie does well enough, Hollywood won't hesitate to squeeze the ever loving milk out of the teat of the sacred cash cow. If they can bring back actors from the first movie, even better…or is it? Let's run down to the graveyard to see if this brainless zombie film is better off dead, or if Return Of The Living Dead part 2 is not that bad. www.notthatbadcast.com Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/notthatbadcast Social Media - @notthatbadcast (X, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Spoutible) Learn more about your ad choices. Travel back to 1985, a pivotal year that witnessed the debut of two seminal zombie movies which profoundly influenced the horror genre: George Romero's DAY OF THE DEAD and THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. This episode delves into how these groundbreaking films transformed the genre, from Romero's stark social critique to the infusion of punk rock's humor and horror, complete with those troublesome brain-eating zombies, paving the way for a new wave of undead narratives. It's about to get Spooky!

With Maddy Sheehy, Emma Youndtsmith, Abbie Phelps, and Natalie Marlin! How did YOU come across THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT? Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez's found footage horror film kicked off a genre before the turn of the millennium, and it still holds a freaky deaky power over audiences today. Four voices are distinctly absent from this episode of Trylove, but the four who've replaced them have a lot to say about its provenance, use of negative space, and missing baddie. Happy Friday the 13th! Join us as we head over to Video Shop to pick out a frightastic flick! That's right, we are going to rent some tapes and we're prepared for blood n' gore n' frights! Did you ever hear about rock bands selling their souls to the devil, and if you listen to their music or play their albums backward you will turn into a demonic zombie??? The 70s, 80s, and 90s were full of films about horrific demons and metal n' punk bands either having their songs featured in the movie or were themselves featured as the subject of the film. Grab your Reeses Pieces, large Coke, a severed limb, and hum along. What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. It's a very special episode here today on Soundtracker, for a few reasons. First, it's the 100th episode! Second, it's the official start of Soundtracker's 3rd annual Halloween celebration. And finally, I've got Brendan James of the incredible Blowback podcast here to talk with me about RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. In this episode, we talk about the music of Blowback, have a long conversation on John Carpenter, talk about horror movies in general, get to the bottom of why zombies are such great fodder for comedy, discuss the underrated way this movie balances true horror with comedy, talk about the subtle anti-Reagan social commentary, and look into the genre of death rock when we talk about the soundtrack.Check out Blowback here: https://blowback.show/Check out the Blowback soundtracks here: https://spotify.link/CaifhvIztDbSupport the show on Patreon! Our heads are spinning this week, maniacs, as we discuss a lesser-known Linda Blair vehicle in Grotesque from 1988.
