An adult man dealing with past trauma goes on a killing spree in New York City. Retro Reel is back for the 2nd run on the podcast and we are starting a whole month of 80's horror films with Maniac. This is the 2nd time we watched the movie and while the film is at times a mess, it conveys how a traumatic event in the past causes the main character to experience violent urges. The film is entertaining as it does have some gruesome kills including one that may be one of the best all time horror movie kills due to the effects, however it does feature a lot of nonsense. One thing is for sure, there's a lot of moaning, potential schizophrenia, and dolls. This week Jef decided enough was enough so he picked a good movie for a change of scenery. What "good" movie do you ask? One right in Jef's sweet spot, none other than 1990's "MISERY"! Josh and Brian were caught off guard by this "good" movie pick thrown into the mix. They were not quite sure if they were bummed or excited to watch James Caan stink up a bed for 2 hours, but the one thing they did know is this would not be a difficult film to watch this week and talk about. Sure they may have had their reasons for the lackluster reception to Jef's pick, but they knew in their hearts this would be a nice break from the dog shit they usually watch...and LOVE. Plus they knew the listener's would probably hoist Jef upon their shoulders and hail him as their saviour....at least for this week.
This week on Friday Flix, we're getting spooky with The Blair Witch Project—the low-budget horror film that changed the genre forever. We break down how this 1999 cult classic used found footage, viral marketing, and minimalism to terrify a generation. Was it real? Why did it feel so raw? And how did a movie with no visible monster become one of the most influential horror films of all time?Join us as we hike deep into the Maryland woods (figuratively, of course), unpack the film's legacy, and debate whether it still holds up today—or if it's just a product of its time.

Dr. Dennis Alan travels to Haiti to research a drug that appears to be "zombifying" locals. The Serpent and the Rainbow is the last movie of Wes Craven May and a movie we love to rewatch. Flying under the radar of some of Craven's other movies, this film stars Bill Pullman as a convincing anthropologist working to uncover strange occurrences in Haiti regarding a drug that is pausing vital signs. This film explores the "stranger in a strange land" concept very well, adding in cultural elements, Voodoo practices, as well as touching on the political strife, all playing a role in the film. The film is loosely based on the Wade Davis book "The Serpent and the Rainbow: A Harvard Scientist's Astonishing Journey into the Secret Societies of Haitian Voodoo, Zombies, and Magic". In this episode it is Brian's week to choose a movie and he decides to choose one that has been haunting him for some time, even though he has never seen it! Something caught his eye and sat in the back of his head until this week when he finally made Jef and Josh watch the 1981 zombie invasion film "Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror"! At first glance it seemed to be just another run of the mill Italian zombie flick with slow ass walking dead, cheap zombie makeups and a plot that is buried deeper than most of the zombies in the film, but the casting of a single man sets this movie apart from almost all other italian zombie movies. You gotta watch it!
Escaped convicts kidnap and harm two teen girls who stop for weed in the city on their way to a rock concert. The Last House on the Left is a controversial film due to the depiction of sexual violence in the movie. Many regard it as a horror classic that has had wide-ranging influence on the genre. After multiple watches, we have differing opinions on the movie than Wes Craven fans of his first film. The FM3 have been dealing with being sick and injured this past week so they decided to unleash an episode recorded in 2021 from the Patreon Exclusive Episode Archive (There are over 80 episodes on our Patreon by the way..wink wink) The film in question is James Gunn's 2006 bump & lump fest "Slither"! This is a fun episode because the guys actually like this movie so it's jumps all over the place, touching and stroking all the space worms and topics. Plus there is a conversation at the very end of the episode that shows The Forever Midnight crew is truly touched with the gift of predicting the future, in this case the future of James Gunn's film projects. Enjoy!
Send us a textGothic horror from Italian master, Mario Bava! A small village is cursed by the ghost of a young child, who just so happens to be causing a number of deaths. Operazione Paura, Operation Fear, Die toten Augen des Dr. Dracula, Curse of the Living Dead, Don't Walk in the Park? None of those titles feel like a good fit for this movie, and neither does Kill, Baby...Kill! (1966), but I guess we'll just go with that one.

A schizophrenic serial killer comes back to his hometown to kill the seven kids who were prematurely born on the day he reportedly died. My Soul to Take is a movie that we have long criticized for being a weak slasher in almost every possible way. It's even more unfortunate to know that it was directed by Wes Craven. This film has some interesting concepts that are not only poorly executed, but they also fail to develop into anything meaningful at any point. Not to mention, there are a ton of overplayed cliches and cringey, forgettable characters. Watch the movie and catch our review. In this episode one of Forever Midnight 's Top Dawgs from Patreon picked a little unsung horror flick from 2001 called "Session 9". This is one of those rare occasions when a film has a shoestring budget and a simple premise but is done well and you end up with a huge abandoned asylum filled with dread, perfect for getting creeped out while watching with headphones in the dark. THe FM3 were very excited to finally chat about this one and try to uncover what REALLY happened to the poor characters. For you loyal listeners this movie was even on Josh's Top 20 list of the Past 20 episode ! Upon robbing the home of his landlords, Fool notices there are unusual men being kept under the stairs in the basement floor. He also discovers a young girl named, Alice in the home as he attempts to escape from under the noses of his landlords. The People Under the Stairs is a hidden gem from Wes Craven and a movie that sometimes feels over the top in all the right ways. Everett McGill and Wendy Robie stand out as the landlords who are constantly chasing Fool throughout the movie and continue to raise the meter on how evil they can be. This is also not to mention that they are capturing and keeping people in their basement in a sectioned area under the stairs. This is a nice kickoff to Wes Craven month and a movie that is enjoyable to watch each time it's on. In this episode the FM3 are so very happy to leave space in the rear view mirror and steer their escape pod toward something new and refreshing. Something thought provoking, something good! That something being the box office powerhouse "Sinners" by writer/director Ryan Coogler that has been breaking records left and right since it was released. If you have not seen this gift of cinema yet, please go see it before Forever Midnight spoils it all for you! It is a genuine treat and the boys can't get enough!

A group in Pennsylvania hole up in a farmhouse in an attempt to survive against rampaging undead feasting for their flesh. Night of the Living Dead is the classic zombie apocalypse movie from one of the greats, George A. Romero. Romero helped inspire what zombie movies are today and it's clear that the way this film portrayed a macro view of a zombie apocalypse set the stage for how films are utilizing survivor struggles in a post-apocalyptic world today. This was our first time watching the movie and although we had some mixed reviews, we all agreed the film is influential. Does the film hold up to current zombie movies or is it a product of its time? In this episode the heroic cosmonauts Jef, Josh and Brian saved their last intergalactic horror chat for what is probably the most well known franchise to make it to the stars, the one and only "Jason X"! The crew aboard the SS Forever Midnight have grown weary and fear their bones and brains have been affected by the long journey through space and time. Their teeth have gotten skinny and Brian is experiencing celestial walnut brain syndrome. It is time to get back to earth 1, time to reintegrate back into human society. Soaring in the heavens this past month was a great idea on paper, but the cost physically and mentally for the crew was astro-nomical!

While celebrating a birthday, a group of friends unknowlingly release a curse long instilled in a myserious deck of tarot cards. Following their readings, the group begin to die off one-by-one as fate would have it in accordance with their readings.Tarot is a teen slasher horror movie released in 2024 that feels very similar to the Final Destination films, but with tarot card readings. With a very familiar concept, fate takes the friend group one-by-one as the group continues to make the worst mistakes ignoring the very clear pathway to death as identified in their tarot car readings. The film doesn't feel original, the kills are weak, and although the visuals at times are well done, the buildup to the kills is poorly executed. It is week three of the "Forever Midnight Goes To Space" bonanza and Jef, Josh and Brian are finally gettin' used to zero gravity and huffing farts in their space helmets. After buying a beat-up car with evil intentions, a socially awkward boy's nature begins to change, matching it.Christine is a fun horror novel adaptation from Stephen King, directed by John Carpenter. While it doesn't have an all-star cast, Carpenter creates a fun environment where the characters are fleshed out and work off the killer well, which happens to be a car. While the movie can be ridiculous at times, it's enjoyable, the kills are great, and is entertaining all the way to the end. Send us a textIf you ever find yourself seeing demons or inhuman things, and are really uncertain as to whether or not they are dreams or reality, maybe you would develop a feeling of solidarity by watching Jacob's Ladder (1990). Actually, no. Maybe that's not such a good idea.
In this week's episode the FM3 are back in the space saddle! They may have breached some movie watching etiquette by watching 1992's Critters 4 before Critters 3 but they believe this was the best course of action as they needed another franchise horror space movie! (Slim pickens out there) After all, it is Forever Midnight goes to space in April 2025! So after decontamination, fasten your safety belts, grab a snack and beam yourself up into the stars!. It's time to visit some little hairy goobers!
Kicking off "Forever Midnight Goes To Space" month, The FM3 are starting with 1996's Hellraiser: Bloodline. Jef, Josh and Brian were told that this is the episode in the franchise that they get to see Pinhead in outer space! How could they not start with this obvious masterpiece, afterall Alan Smithee directed it, what could go wrong?! So please secure the airlock and fasten your seatbelt because this episode is gonna have some space turbulence and probably some space flatulence, so make sure that you have enough oxygen to make it through the whole episode. We have such shites to show you! Enjoy earthings!
