The “Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise had never been bigger following the release of the fourth installment in the series “The Dream Master,” which was then followed by a TV series titled “Freddy's Nightmares.” New Line Cinema, which was nicknamed “The House That Freddy Built,” wasted no time ordering a fifth film with an idea that was originally pitched during pre-production on Part 3 about Freddy Krueger inhabiting the mind of an unborn child. It wasn't until years later when producer Sara Risher decided to develop the idea further. Sadly, script rewrites and the search for a director, which included both Frank Miller and Stephen King being considered, ended up with Stephen Hopkins leading the project. The reception at the box office was a far cry from previous installments and that led to producers rethinking the future of the franchise. By 1991, New Line Cinema had started developing different projects and the studio felt it was time to move beyond “Nightmare on Elm Street.” So it was decided that the sixth film in the series would be the last. Future Oscar winner Peter Jackson actually worked on a version of the script with several other stories considered including a continuing plot around Alice Johnson and the child she was carrying in Part 5. Ultimately, the decision was made to go in a completely different direction with director Rachel Talalay decided to inject more humor into this installment that eventually including the final sequences being shot and shown in 3D. In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we continue with our series on “Nightmare on Elm Street” by talking about Part 5 “The Dream Child” and “Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare”…

In this episode Jef, Josh and Brian get an airbnb for a fun weekend of Horror films and Podcasting. But when they show up to the house there is another horror podcast already renting the spot! What the heck are the odds?! They decide to share the house but are suspicious of each other and unaware of the horrors that lurk beneath the house. They all try to sleep but are awakened by strange sounds and movements. Maybe that other podcast is only here to sabotage the FM podcast equipment, or maybe they are only there to diddle the FM3. Could the Forever Midnight crew be so lucky?! Naw, it's probably something far scarier, stinkier and stranger. Against all odds the crew manage to squeak out an episode talking about a wild ass film they just saw that almost mirrors their current predicament, the 2022 Zach Gregger film "Barbarian"!

During the production of his hit slasher film “X,” director Ti West began developing a backstory for the character of Pearl as played by actor Mia Goth. Working together, the director and star began crafting what would ultimately become a script for an entire prequel movie that would center around the murderous woman that haunted the farm where “X” took place. Unlike that film, which took inspiration from movies like “Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” West felt like he wanted to go in a completely different direction for the prequel while taking inspiration from films such as “The Wizard of Oz” and he later called this project a “demented Disney movie.” Set in 1918, a young girl dreams of becoming a star while desperately seeking to escape the family farm where she grew up and she'll do anything or kill anyone to get there…In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to sharpen our pitchforks and pick up the pig off the front porch as we review the 2022 horror film “Pearl”….Theme courtesy of Andrew Bell  Scott Music

Welcome back to Behind The Screams, I'm your host Aran and this week we are taking a closer look at the inspiration behind the movie - The Town That Dreaded Sundown - better known as Texarkana Moonlight Murders. The residents of Texarkana have been haunted by the events known as the Texarkana Moonlight Murders since 1946. That year, a masked murderer killed five people and seriously injured three others in a series of attacks that shook the town to its core. According to Texas Monthly, the presence of a serial killer (before the term was even coined) so spooked Texarkanans that they stocked up on guns and guard dogs, booby-trapped their homes, and even slept in hotels for safety after police failed for months to bring in the man the Texarkana Gazette christened the Phantom Killer.Credit - https://www.grunge.com/328814/the-famous-movie-inspired-by-the-texarkana-murder-mystery/For more content, follow here - https://linktr.ee/FirstClassHorror

Welcome back to another episode of Story Behind the Screams, I'm your host Aran and in this week's episode, we take a look at the real-life inspiration behind one of the greatest horror movies of all time - The Exorcist. In the late 1940s, in the United States, priests of the Roman Catholic Church performed a series of exorcisms on an anonymous boy, documented under the pseudonym "Roland Doe" or "Robbie Mannheim". The 14-year-old boy was the alleged victim of demonic possession, and the events were recorded by the attending priest, Raymond J. Bishop. Subsequent supernatural claims surrounding the events were used as elements in William Peter Blatty's 1971 novel The Exorcist. In December 2021, The Skeptical Inquirer and The Guardian reported the purported true identity of Roland Doe/Robbie Mannheim as Ronald Edwin Hunkeler (June 1, 1935 – May 10, 2020).Credit - https://www.novelsuspects.com/articles/roland-doe/Follow here for more content - https://linktr.ee/FirstClassHorror

The relationship between horror and comedy has really exploded over the last few years, especially with filmmakers like David Gordon-Green and Danny McBride developing a new “Halloween” trilogy and former sketch comedy guru Jordan Peele winning an Oscar and becoming one of the most popular directors in modern horror history. The latest convert is Zach Cregger, who first came to fame through his own sketch comedy series called “The Whitest Kids You Know.” It wasn't until he read a book called “The Gift of Fear” that he got inspired to write a scene based on the subject matter dealing with little red flags women are encouraged to recognize when it comes to the toxic behavior of the men around them. That single scene eventually spiraled into an entire idea for a film where a woman arrives at a house she rented only to find it's already been occupied by someone else…In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to double check our Air BNB reservations and make a cup of tea as we review the 2022 horror film “Barbarian”…

Due to the critical failure surrounding “Nightmare on Elm Street 2,” New Line Cinema was hesitant to green light a third film in the franchise but when original creator Wes Craven decided to come back on board to help write the script, the studio decided to move forward with the project. Craven's idea centered around a third and final film that would conclude the series, especially considering he didn't initially plan on making any movies past the first one. His original script actually involved Freddy Krueger crossing over to the real world and tormenting the actors making a “Nightmare on Elm Street” sequel. The studio shot that down, although Craven eventually got his wish to make that film a few years later. Craven eventually teamed with writer Bruce Wagner to come up with the concept for the film, which initially started out as a much darker take on Freddy and the teens he was going after in their dreams. Ultimately, the studio opted to go in a different direction with more outrageous dream sequences mixed in with some seriously dark humor. What resulted was a story about a group of kids locked away in a psych ward after each of them dealt with horrendous night terrors but it turns out they were all being haunted by the same man in their dreams…In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to crank up the Dokken and load up on hypnocil as we discuss “Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors”…

George says, "Houses don't have memories," but they turn to their family priest Father Delaney who believes the house is haunted and performs an exorcism on the house. But satanic forces in the place cause him to become blind and make him very sick. With the help of another priest Father Bolen and a police detective, George and Kathy face the fears of the house, but not knowing the forces are planning to possess George and then the children.Real-life Story - Thirty miles outside of New York City, nestled in the Long Island town of Amityville, stands the house forever linked to the Amityville Horror phenomenon. On November 13, 1974, the estate was the scene of mass murder. Using a .35 Marlin rifle, 23-year-old Ronald J. DeFeo Jr. murdered his entire family while they were asleep, which included his parents and four siblings.Crazy Movie Trivia - James Brolin was hesitant when he was first offered the role of George Lutz. He was told that there was no script and that he must obtain a copy of Jay Anson's novel and read it as soon as possible. Brolin started the book one evening at seven o'clock and was still reading at two o'clock in the morning. He had hung a pair of his pants up in the room earlier and at a really "tense" part in the book, the pants fell down from wherever they had been hanging. Brolin jumped out of his chair, nearly crashing his head into the ceiling. Then, Brolin said, "There's something to this story." He agreed to do the movie. For years rumors have circulated that the movie was to be filmed in the actual house in Amityville, NY, but the production team was too frightened to film inside the house. The reality is the town of Amityville denied American International Pictures permission to film any scenes whatsoever in Amityville in an attempt to distance themselves from any publicity. Therefore, AIP found a two-story Dutch-Colonial home in Toms River, NJ, in which to film the exteriors. A third-floor facade was added, along with the crescent moon windows on both sides of the house. Almost all interior scenes were filmed at MGM studios in Culver City, CA. A few interior scenes were filmed inside the actual Toms River house, including the scene when George returns from the boathouse in the middle of the night, then walks onto the sun porch to light a cigarette. In that scene, you can see there's no wallpaper and no door in the living room, whereas on the soundstage the living room has wallpaper and a door near the bookshelf.Cinematographer Fred J. Koenekamp admitted to having a hard time filming the scenes with the flies, as he claimed to be scared of insects. He says that whenever he was to film a scene with a close-up facial shot of a fly right in the camera, he would look away or close his eyes and hope for a good shot. He also lost nearly 30 pounds because he refused to eat, saying the flies made him lose his appetite. In hopes of creating more publicity for the film, the studio would concoct stories of "weird" occurrences on the set of the film. The basement featured in this movie, is shown to be a dark and creepy dungeon like room. In reality, the real home in Amityville has a finished basement that was used as a rec room when the DeFeo family lived in the home. The other portion of the basement is used as a laundry room and storage area. The original house also had a swimming pool at one time, until a newer set of owners had it filled in.The Lutz family went on to live a relatively normal life free of paranormal activity after escaping the house, but their peace was short-lived. George and Kathy Lutz divorced in the late 1980s. George died of heart disease on 8 May 2006, in Clark County, Nevada, and Kathy died of emphysema on 17 August 2004, in Scottsdale, Arizona. The three children--Daniel, Christopher, and Missy--are adults and remain out of the public eye. Their names were changed for the film. The film never makes it clear what was happening to Carolyn once she finally saw the red room in the basement of the house. It was commonly believed among fans and viewers that she was experiencing possession. Helen Shaver, who plays Carolyn, is often asked the question and answers that she wasn't experiencing a demonic possession, but rather a sensory overload. Carolyn is a clairvoyant, and sensitive to the supernatural, so she was experiencing the pain, torture, and sadness of all the souls trapped in hell being thrown at her all at once, as the red room is said to be the entrance to hell. She covered her ears in the scene because she could hear the screams of agony belonging to all the punished souls in hell, causing her a sensory overload.Leave a rating/review if you enjoyed this episode. Music - Ambient Background Music - Cicada 3301 - CO.AG Music The story behind the screams - The Seaford Poltergeist - Poltergeist 1982Movie Plot - The Freelings are a typical suburban family. Husband Steve sells real estate in their ever-expanding subdivision and Diane is a stay-at-home mom caring for their three kids, Dana, Robbie, and little Carol Anne. Strange things begin to happen in the house, however: cupboard doors open on their own, furniture rearranges itself and chairs go sliding across the kitchen floor. It's a bit of whimsy at first but soon becomes deadly severe when Carol Anne vanishes into a nether world where, oddly, she can only be communicated with through the white noise on their television. A team of paranormal investigators moves into the house. Still, the forces that kidnapped are evil and powerful requiring the services of Tangina, a woman who has dealt with this situation before.Real-life Story The Seaford ‘poltergeist' was an episode of unexplained disturbances reported by a family in Seaford, Long Island, New York, in 1958. The incidents, which were widely publicized, included bottles losing their tops and spilling contents, and household objects and furniture moving with no apparent cause. Investigating parapsychologists attributed the cause to psychokinesis centering on a 12-year-old boy, while skeptics offered explanations in terms of trickery.Crazy Movie Trivia Two of the film's cast members were subsequently murdered: (1) Dominique Dunne (Dana Freeling) was strangled by her former boyfriend John Thomas Sweeney in the driveway of her West Hollywood home on October 30, 1982, and, having been declared brain dead, died five days later at the age of 22 and (2) Lou Perryman (Pugsley) was killed with an ax by a 26-year-old man named Seth Christopher Tatum in Austin, Texas on April 1, 2009. He was 67 years old at the time of his death.JoBeth Williams had a supernatural experience during the making of the film. Whenever she came home from filming, the pictures on the walls of her house were crooked. Every time she fixed them they would hang crooked again. Zelda Rubinstein also had an experience when a vision of her dog came to her and said goodbye to her. Hours later, her mother called her and told Rubinstein that her dog had passed away that very day. Julian Beck (Kane in Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986)) died in 1985 after a long battle with stomach cancer; Will Sampson (Taylor in Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986)) died of complications from a heart-lung transplant; and Heather O'Rourke (Carol Anne in all three movies) died in 1988 at age 12 from cardiac arrest caused by septic shock from a bowel obstruction caused by intestinal stenosis after being misdiagnosed with Crohn's Disease in 1987.Leave a rate/review if you enjoyed this episode.
