If you've ever read First Corinthians eleven and all the talk about head coverings, maybe you were left wondering, “Well how does this apply to me today?” We're about to find out here on Abounding Grace, as pastor Ed Taylor continues his series in First Corinthians. In your study of the Bible, have you ever encountered a verse or two that left you asking, “How in the world does that apply to us?” I think it's safe to say First Corinthians eleven is one such place. Here the subject of head coverings comes up. There were some women in the church at Corinth who chose not to wear head coverings and this caused quite a stir. Here we are centuries later and obviously that's not a cultural norm in America. So do we toss this passage out thinking it no longer applies? Actually pastor Ed Taylor says it has something very important to say to us. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/302/29
Should I really go see that movie? Can I have a glass of wine with dinner? You can probably think of a number of questions you wrestle with from time to time, similar to these. As believers, we know that we have an incredible amount of freedom. But there are some things that while they may be permissible, have the potential to stumble a brother or sister in the Lord or even mislead an unbeliever! The apostle Paul said that all things are permissible, but not all things are helpful. Today on Abounding Grace we're urged to keep our focus on the glory of God. And pastor Ed Taylor will give us several questions we can ask as we walk through the grey areas of life. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/302/29
Maybe as you were going through school you had a history teacher that would say something along the lines of, “Those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it!” It's a reminder that there's something important to be learned from those that have gone on before us, and not only their victories but their mistakes. Today on Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor opens First Corinthians ten. And we'll receive sort of a history lesson regarding the people of Israel as they were wandering in the wilderness and engaged in warfare in the Promised Land. Perhaps you're not so happy with where you're at today. You have a job that isn't satisfying to you, or you've been in school more years than you can count? While it would be easy for you to jump ship, pastor Ed Taylor wants us to look behind the scenes and see what God is doing! You'll soon see, God has a plan for your life, and that includes right where you're at today. Nothing is wasted by Him. With that in mind, we need to remain faithful. Maybe you've been wondering lately, what is your calling? Has the Lord called you to pastoral ministry, or maybe to lead the worship team at church, or a small group bible study? Our friend Pastor Ed Taylor joins us from Calvary Church in Aurora, Colorado to share a message titled "Open the Eyes of My Heart". Drawing from Jeremiah 18 (the story of the Potter) and 2 Kings 6 (Elisha and the Lord's Army), he describes how we believers can become so distracted by the physical, that we miss the spiritual realities God is trying to show us. Pastor Ed encourages the church to trust God's plans for our lives, and to ask the Lord to show us His spiritual truths!
We're living in a day and age where divorce is very common even in the church. In fact, if you're an adult and both of your parents are still married to each other, you're in the minority sad to say! Well, it wasn't all that different in Jesus' day. In fact, some Jewish rabbis taught that you could divorce your wife for just about anything -- even burning your dinner! But what about something a little more serious? Something like being married to an unbeliever -- is that grounds for divorce? Let's go ahead and turn to First Corinthians seven and explore that question and others with pastor Ed Taylor. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/302/29
As we go through life we're bound to have our fair share of problems and disputes. When someone does us wrong the world would tell you, take em to court and sue them! But pastor Ed Taylor will suggest there's something much more important at stake, and that's God's reputation. We don't want to communicate the wrong message to the unsaved world around us, and so let's see together how to resolve our disputes in a God-honoring manner on Abounding Grace. Today on Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor urges us to have a concern for holiness and a willingness to help others caught up in sin just as the apostle Paul does in First Corinthians chapter five. Yes taking a stand for purity will be uncomfortable, but we need to realize it's good for everyone! To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/302/29
As you look back on your life, maybe you're ashamed of what you used to be! You lived a life that involved drugs, violence, and you were quick to get angry too. But here's the good news, if you're a Christian, you're no longer identified by your past. You're a new creation in Christ. That's how God sees you, and how you should see yourself. That's our focus today on Abounding Grace. In Second Corinthians chapter five we've been looking at our calling as servants of Jesus, and as we continue today pastor Ed Taylor has us consider how God changes us from the inside out. Imagine if there was a guy in your church who was having sexual relations with his stepmother. On top of it all, the whole church knew what was going on, but did nothing about it. Scandalous, I'm sure you'd agree. That's exactly what was going on in the church at Corinth. But before you start thinking we're above that, pastor Ed Taylor will point out the same sort of tolerance of sin is going on today in many churches. Today on Abounding Grace we'll open First Corinthians five and be encouraged to take a stand for purity. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/302/29
We're talking about the sin of pride today on Abounding Grace as we get back to our series in First Corinthians. As we open up chapter four today with pastor Ed Taylor we notice something that can help us remain in a place of humility, and that is coming to realize everything we have has been graciously given to us by God. When things aren't going the way we think they should at church, or someone rubs you the wrong way, are you quick to criticize? Many of us have that tendency, if we're honest. But today on Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor urges us to refrain from that sort of thing. Nothing good is accomplished through our criticism of others. As we begin our study of First Corinthians four today we discover the apostle Paul even faced criticism. How he handles it really speaks volumes. Whether it's teaching a Sunday School class for years and never having a single person show any appreciation whatsoever, or you're serving in the sound ministry and very few really know you're doing it faithfully… it's common for the Christian to feel underappreciated in their service of the Lord. But what will keep you going and how can you remain faithful to God in that difficult place?Let's talk about it today on Abounding Grace. In First Corinthians four verse one pastor Ed Taylor will key in on the description Paul gives of being a servant and a steward. That's exactly what we're to be as followers of God. When our kids are little we expect certain behaviors like an occasional temper tantrum, sucking on a pacifier, and crawling around on the ground playing with toys. But if a thirty or forty year old is engaging in that same behavior we'd be concerned. That's because we expect growth with time. And that's true spiritually as well. Today on Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor shows us why spiritual growth is to occur from new birth until we go to be with the Lord. If you've received Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, that's wonderful. Your salvation is secure and you're on your way to heaven. But did you realize, you'll still give an account for your life and stand before the Bema Seat Judgment of Christ? This is not regarding your salvation, but rather eternal rewards. And today on Abounding Grace, pastor Ed Taylor helps us get ready. He wants us to consider three things in light of the Bema Seat, found in Second Corinthians five. Problem is we can't see what's going on in this hidden spiritual realm. So today on Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor is going to challenge us to start praying, Lord open our eyes to see what we cannot see! That's actually a prayer of Elisha in Second Kings chapter six. Today on Abounding Grace we take you to Second Corinthians four. We're in a series called, Be the Church! It's a study in Acts, from pastor Ed Taylor. And today we come back to chapter 26, where Paul is sharing some of his testimony. Before he came to Christ he was a religious man. Which raises the question, can you be unsaved, and yet do a lot of good things and involved in religious activities? Absolutely! And Saul of Tarsus, later to be known as Paul, is a case in point. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/302/29
Romans 6:23 declares, The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Here on this Good Friday edition of Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor shares how we can move from wages to gift, and that's through repentance and faith in Christ. It really is the only way. But praise God there is a way, thanks to Jesus. We're talking about the power of Hope. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/302/29

How is a person saved? There's no greater question we could ask and answer than that! And today on Abounding Grace we'll learn that the answer is wonderfully simple. And to attempt to add to it will lead you down a road of bondage! Back in the first century there were those that were under the impression that they needed to keep the law of Moses in order to be saved. That sort of thinking still exists today. We're at the midway point of our journey through Acts, here on Abounding Grace! We'll join pastor Ed Taylor in chapter fifteen. And at this point in the early church there's conflict and controversy. I'm sure you can think of a time when someone said something really awful about you, behind your back, and it was untrue! Worse yet, people believed it, and before you know it, it was spread all over town. Sadly that sort of behavior has only gotten worse, with the advent of the internet. But how should we respond to that sort of thing? Do we lash out in anger or shutdown? Actually, there's a much better way to go, and it's modeled for us by the apostle Paul in Second Corinthians two. That's where we join pastor Ed Taylor today on Abounding Grace. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/302/29
