On June 2, about 25 years ago, our prodigal, Josh, met Jesus. He was living at House of Hope, a nearby residential home for troubled teens. His house dad, Mike, loved him, prayed for him, sought to guide him into better life choices, and on June 2, 1997, he introduced our son to Jesus. That evening Mike baptized him in the nearby lake. Josh's life changed then, and when he came home months later. He wanted to walk with God. But wrong friends and the trauma of his early life put him on a roller coaster. He would do well and make good choices for days, weeks, even months. Then down he would go for many months. The unpredictable cycle went on for 15 years.Judy's Resources:Read The Grace-full Father: https://bit.ly/3SiGkImRead A Word from Josh: https://bit.ly/3ZDiH10Join the Prayer for Prodigals community here: https://bit.ly/3uyhSWQSign up for Judy's monthly newsletter here: https://bit.ly/39TBlYtPurchase a copy of the When You Love a Prodigal book for you or a loved one here: https://amzn.to/3RuiUx9Stay connected:Website: judydouglass.com/podcastFacebook: facebook.com/JudyDouglass417Instagram: instagram.com/judydouglass417X: twitter.com/judydouglass417Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/judyddouglass/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/JudyDouglass

Catalyst Church of Carrollton - 5/18/25 "We're All Prodigals"
Everyone has friends and family members who either walked away from Jesus or never fully surrendered their heart to Him even though they had opportunities to do so. This reality is heart wrenching and difficult for all of us, and I am sure that we would do anything we could to see our loved ones come back to Jesus. In our passage today, we can clearly see the heart of Christ to bring all people to Himself no matter where they come from or what they have done. As a church, we are taking a stand together to pursue our prodigals until all have returned to Christ! Speaker: Pastor Ben Dixon Scripture: Luke 15:1-10 Series: Stand Alone Messages For more information visit www.BenDixon.org
Before Jesus said a word, his actions spoke volumes—he was eating with “sinners,” and the religious crowd couldn't handle it. Their pride and judgment were on full display, and in response, Jesus told three powerful stories that revealed God's heart. A heart that loves more—loves first, loves when we're a mess, loves when we walk away. These stories challenge us: Have we let that kind of love change us? Do we look more like Jesus or more like the ones who judged him? And who are we making room for at our table? (Talk by Joshua Ott)

This might be the most helpful episode we've done on this podcast.Loving a prodigal can be like a roller coaster—the ups and downs, the unexpected turns. The dashed hopes. Two pastors describe the challenges they've experienced with prodigals — who grew up in loving, Christian families, yet were far from God. But through unconditional love and godly hope, their prodigals were restored and now serve in ministry today.
It's easy to categorize those who leave their faith as prodigals. But how many prodigals are still active in church? Two pastors share their experience with prodigals and the valuable spiritual lessons God taught them about unconditional love and accountability.
We're visiting other shelves on the bookcase again, this time to dig into World of Darkness: Hong Kong. As with the Tokyo citybook, this was a Year of the Lotus supplement that was ostensibly for all the oWoD gamelines, but in truth was more vampire-centric than anything. Still—the tilts at the other games are present, and to help us sort through the Prodigals, we were joined by Terry Robinson from Mage: the Podcast (recorded before his passing) and Josh Heath from Werewolf: the Podcast (with whom Pooka recorded a follow-up segment more recently). From a Changeling perspective, the book notably contains example of hsien that are not quite built like Kithain, but are still a far cry from those in Land of Eight Million Dreams, which would not come out for several more months. The book overall is a richly described take on the city, and while its approach and accuracy are... debatable, some of it surprisingly prescient for what would follow in the next 25 years. When you love a prodigal, you get used to the lion stalking.Sometimes it seems that, no matter what you do to rescue your prodigal, to win her heart, to capture his mind, nothing works. In the message of "The Prodigals," Brother Duane explores the prodigal son described in Luke 15 and the parallels of Jesus' parables on lost things, such as the lost coin and lost sheep. Jesus' parables illustrate God's love for the lost and our responsibilities to reach out to them. Jesus' parables illustrate God's love for the lost and emphasize our responsibilities in reaching out to them. Additionally, Duane provides practical solutions for wayward children and stresses the importance of maintaining our faith and righteousness while loving and guiding them back.
Each morning, we take time to pray for wayward children, those that at one time, made a genuine confession of faith in Jesus Christ and repentance from sin. For whatever reason, they have chosen not to return to Him. Pastor Jay Dennis from City Central Church - Lakeland stopped by to make a plea to those running from God, to return to the lover of their souls. One of the hardest parts of living with and loving a prodigal is the waiting, isn't it. I have said many times: I thought it was time! Isn't it time, Lord? Are we doing this again? In my conversations with those who love a prodigal, or with someone going through hard times, with anyone in an uncertain time, I usually end up at the same place, with four words that can make a real difference, even bring transformation in a prodigal, and in our own lives. These words are filled with encouragement and hope. In this episode of Legacy Grandparenting, Wayne Rice and John Coulombe talk with James and Geoffrey Banks, co-authors of Hope Lies Ahead: Encouragement for Parents of Prodigals from a Family That's Been There. James is the founding pastor of Peace Church in Durham, North Carolina and a speaker at this year's Legacy Grandparenting Summit. Geoffrey Banks is the son of James Banks and is currently the youth pastor at Port City Community Church in Wilmington, North Carolina. But before Geoff became a youth pastor, he spent more than a decade as a “prodigal,” following the crowd rather than Jesus. Geoff shares openly how he became addicted to drugs and walked away from his faith while his parents prayed fervently for his return. James and Geoff share their remarkable story of redemption and offer hope and guidance for parents and grandparents who are currently praying for their prodigal children or grandchildren. For more information: https://jamesbanks.org/

What's inside your heart, motivating your actions? This Sunday, Pastor Sara helped us take a closer look at the parable of the prodigal son: at the the heart of the older brother and father. The older son convicts us of our own misaligned motivations and broken relationships. But it also provides a glimpse of God the Father's kindness and compassion in his pursuit of his children. He cares deeply about what's inside of us. He knows us. --- Join us for service online or in-person in Grand Rapids every Sunday at 8:30, 9:45 & 11:15AM. Decided to follow Jesus? A new year lifts us up, shaking off the remnants of last year's mistakes, opening a panorama of a better future. We love to leave the hurts and failures of yesterday, believing that tomorrow is filled with sunshine and promise. Except, when you love a prodigal. Too often fears win out. You hope, but you dare not “get your hopes up.” You dream, hoping it doesn't once again become a nightmare. You believe, but always with clouds of doubt blocking the brightness you desire. Can we have hope for the new year? Assuredly so! Appearing at Metro, Saturday, January 4, 2025: Nicholas Tremulis & the Prodigals present Boneyard Rhapsody #65, featuring DJ Joe Shanahan & special guests. This promises to be a wall-rattling, roof-shaking, night of live music. To preview the event, I met Joe Shanahan (Metro founder) and Nicholas Tremulis in the Metro balcony for a conversation that includes: *When Nicholas first met Joe in the early 80s. *Their shared love of music (and sharing of music), spanning multiple decades. *The sheer enormousness of Nicholas’ band. It stands at 15 members, but surely he can find a few more before January 4th? *The event benefits Collaboraction: Nicholas explains their mission. *Metro’s ability to thrive and grow amidst constant change and disruption in Wrigleyville through the years. *Nicholas’ history of collaborating with, well, everyone. He’s an “elder statesman” at this point; is he still learning? *The importance of music discovery. *Joe’s approach to DJ-ing events. *The ever-growing list of live music venues in Chicago Joe and Nicholas have known each other forever, which made this a very easy conversation to record. In many cases, I just sat back and let the old friends talk and riff. It was a great experience. The first great show of 2025 is on the calendar: See you at Metro! ## Car Con Carne is sponsored by Easy Automation: easy-automation.net Transform your living space with cutting-edge home automation. Lord, please, for Christmas could my child come home? Would you set him free from his addictions? May they see the emptiness and destructiveness of their choices. And, Lord, may we have peace in our family for Christmas. When you love a prodigal, your heart yearnings for your loved one seem to intensify at Christmas time. But we can ask for those heart's desires—from God and from that prodigal.Judy's Resources:Read The Gifts of Advent https://tinyurl.com/34h24mjwJoin the Prayer for Prodigals community here: https://bit.ly/3uyhSWQSign up for Judy's monthly newsletter here: https://bit.ly/39TBlYtPurchase a copy of the When You Love a Prodigal book for you or a loved one here: https://amzn.to/3RuiUx9Stay connected:Website: judydouglass.com/podcastFacebook: facebook.com/JudyDouglass417Instagram: instagram.com/judydouglass417Twitter: twitter.com/judydouglass417Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/judyddouglass/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/JudyDouglass
Send me a Text Message!Luke 15 contains three "lost and found" stories. There's a lost sheep, a lost coin, and a lost son. And with each story Jesus is telling us something deep about the Father's heart and what heaven celebrates! And in a way, he is reminding us of the "why" of Christmas. Jesus left home, so that the prodigals could come home! Jesus was born to show us the Father's heart. When God sees you what He feels for you is prodigal love, reckless, extravagant, unrelenting love. Here's what I believe. I believe that in this next year we are going to start seeing more prodigals coming home than ever before. And with everything that is in me, I am going to do everything I can to call us to be a church that celebrates their homecoming with all our heart. It'll be like Christmas over and over and over again!
If you have listened to many of my podcasts, then you know I encourage all of us to give thanks in everything.I got to practice what I preach in real life last week. And though this story is not about a prodigal, it's certainly a practice to live out before a prodigal or someone you hope never becomes a prodigal.Judy's Resources:Read Help for the Hard--no, Impossible--Times: https://bit.ly/3BpvxHpJoin the Prayer for Prodigals community here: https://bit.ly/3uyhSWQSign up for Judy's monthly newsletter here: https://bit.ly/39TBlYtPurchase a copy of the When You Love a Prodigal book for you or a loved one here: https://amzn.to/3RuiUx9Stay connected:Website: judydouglass.com/podcastFacebook: facebook.com/JudyDouglass417Instagram: instagram.com/judydouglass417Twitter: twitter.com/judydouglass417Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/judyddouglass/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/JudyDouglass

In Philippian 4:6 the instructions are more specific: Pray about everything, with thanksgiving. Pray, of course. Give thanks? Much harder. But that is exactly what we are told to do, even in scary, out-of-control circumstances. Give thanks.
