For more than 20 years, Ed Taylor helped care for his grandmother through dementia - long before he ever considered himself a caregiver. In this episode of Desperately Seeking Senior Living, Ed shares the realities of family caregiving, including navigating cognitive decline, managing crises, making difficult care decisions and balancing caregiving responsibilities with work and everyday life. Together, we discuss caregiver burnout, power of attorney, hospice, family dynamics and the challenges many families face when trying to do it all on their own. Ed reflects on his "superhero cape" mindset that kept him carrying the weight of caregiving for years and explains why accepting help ultimately allowed him to return to his most important role: being a grandson. Whether you're currently caring for a loved one with dementia or preparing for the future, this conversation offers practical insights, honest reflections, and encouragement for every family caregiver. In this episode, we discuss: • Recognizing when caregiving has moved into crisis mode • Why power of attorney should be established before it's needed • Managing difficult family and sibling dynamics • The emotional impact of dementia on caregivers • Hospice myths and realities • How to know when it's time to ask for help • Why caregivers must prioritize their own well-being CLICK HERE for our DOABLE DOWNLOAD with FULL SHOW NOTES Follow us on INSTAGRAM for more doable tips! Logan Gruidl is Senior Producer at Picture Head and the founder of The Trailer Brief, a bi-weekly newsletter covering trailer craft, industry news, and the campaigns shaping entertainment advertising. After coming up as an AE at Outpost and Grandson, Logan built his finishing expertise at Picturehead while quietly becoming one of the industry's most thoughtful new voices. Key Takeaways: The finishing side of the industry is poorly understood even by people in it. Logan breaks down how color, mix, versioning, and delivery work at a post house like Picture Head. The Trailer Brief was born from a need to stay engaged with the creative side of the industry while doing finishing work full-time. The journalism background helped. AI as editorial tool, not ghostwriter. Logan uses ChatGPT to round up trades and Claude to pressure-test his drafts, not write them. The Uncut Gems trailer was the piece that made him want to work in this industry. Grandson had it on their homepage when he was interviewing. Building community matters. Between Behind the Trailer, TWMT, Jules Levy's Tuesday roundups, and now The Trailer Brief, a real ecosystem of industry education and documentation is taking shape. Standout Quotes: "We're in a cool place right now where the people who founded the industry are still working, but there's also a whole new slate of editors who came up wanting to be trailer editors — and now they're working next to the people who cut the things that inspired them." "I felt like the way to keep accountable was to write about them." "If I can distill it down to four bullet points for someone who just got off a 12-hour shift, and they feel better about their knowledge of the industry — that's a win." "I don't think anyone my age really wants to be a finisher, aside from me." "I was like, okay, time to go to Picturehead — be a smaller fish in a bigger pond." What does 30+ years of cross-cultural ministry actually look like from the inside? In this solo episode, recorded on her 59th birthday, Cynthia Anderson gets honest — about the surprises, the valleys she never would have chosen, and the convictions that have only deepened over three decades of disciple-making work across Nepal, India, Thailand, and Africa. This isn't a highlight reel. It's a real look at what sustained obedience costs, what it produces, and why the pattern of valleys leading to breakthrough doesn't stop. In this episode: Why God's love is not contingent on your fruit — and why that's still disorienting after all this time What Cynthia would do differently (margins, meetings, and what she wishes she'd said no to) The valley-to-breakthrough pattern traced across 30 years of field work A 1 Corinthians 13 rewrite that reframes what success in ministry actually looks like Why Caleb at 85 is still her model for what's next

This one is too good not to share here. Our guest today is John Roosevelt Boettiger, psychologist, author, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is also one of the very few living people who spent his childhood inside the Roosevelt White House, where his grandfather Franklin was busy running the free world, and his grandmother Eleanor was traveling it.While John is the grandson of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, he's also the son of Anna Roosevelt and John Boettiger, a Chicago Tribune reporter who fell in love with the president's daughter on the campaign train in 1932. His book, "A Love in Shadow," tells the story of their marriage, and of his own long journey to understand a father changed by war and lost far too soon.In this conversation, John shares witty, warm, and deeply personal stories from his years inside the wartime White House, including memories of Churchill, of Eleanor, and of the man he simply called Papa. We talk about his father's moral injury, his mother's quiet courage, and the complicated grace of growing up a Roosevelt. We also talk about John's years as a civil rights activist, his time in Selma, and what it means to carry that history forward into a political moment like this one.It is a remarkable life. We are lucky he wrote it down, and luckier still that he came in on a Sunday to share it.Find John's book "Love and Shadow" here - https://www.abebooks.com/book-search/title/love-shadow-story-anna/author/boettiger-john/
I have to tell you about this one. James Patterson — who has sold more than 420 million books — and his longtime friend and collaborator Tim Malloy, a seven-time Emmy winner and veteran journalist, came on to talk about their book American Heroes, which chronicles the recipients of the Medal of Honor, the Silver Star, and the Distinguished Service Cross. The stories in this book are almost impossible to put into words: acts of courage so far beyond what most of us will ever be asked to do that you find yourself reading on a plane and suddenly trying to hide the fact that you're crying. We also got into their earlier collaboration on Filthy Rich — the Epstein book they wrote before almost anyone else was paying attention — and the documentary that came out of it. With Memorial Day this week, I wanted to bring this conversation back because I think these are exactly the stories we should all be sitting with right now.00:00:00 Introduction — James Patterson and Tim Malloy00:01:20 How Patterson Got Started as a Writer00:03:41 First Novel, the Vietnam Lottery, and Leaving His PhD Program00:06:01 How Patterson and Malloy Met — The Epstein Story Begins00:08:16 How the Epstein Story Finally Broke — The Plea Deal and the Press00:10:34 Walk in My Combat Boots and Matt Eversman00:12:58 How American Heroes Came Together00:13:58 Woody Williams at Iwo Jima — A Medal of Honor Story00:15:15 Duty, Sacrifice, and Why This Book Should Be in Schools00:17:40 Woody's Grandson, Gold Star Monuments, and Veteran Support00:19:53 The Sergeant and the Napkins — Veteran Transition00:22:14 Finding and Interviewing Medal of Honor Recipients00:26:49 Cozy Earth Ad00:45:34 Alex Cross — Origin Story and the Prime Video Series00:47:43 On Screenwriting, Hollywood, and the Alex Cross Origin Story00:50:04 Patterson's Creative Process and What's Next for Tim Malloy00:52:27 OutroHosted on Ausha. The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of Trump v. Barbara regarding President Trump's executive order issued on his first day in office, which seeks to limit birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment by denying automatic U.S. citizenship to children born in the United States if their parents are undocumented or present on a temporary basis. Justices from across the ideological spectrum asked pointed questions about the order's interpretation of the phrase "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" in the 14th Amendment and whether the executive branch can unilaterally alter long-standing practice and precedent on citizenship. President Trump attended the arguments in person, the first time a sitting president has done so. Lower courts previously blocked the order as unconstitutional. In this episode we interview Miko Peled, son of Israeli General Matti Peled, born into the heart of Israel's Zionist military elite. He says what most are too afraid to say: Zionism is antisemitism, what the true foundation of Israel is, and how the one-state solution is the best option.Miko's family signed Israel's Declaration of Independence. His father was a decorated IDF General. His niece was killed in a Palestinian suicide bombing. And yet, Miko Peled became one of the most fearless voices for Palestinian rights in the world. Stanford White is one of the most recognizable figures of the Gilded Age. Known for his flamboyant style and outsized personality, he loomed large over New York society. His private life captured headlines and fueled persistent gossip, particularly his scandalous relationships with young women—most famously the chorus girl and model Evelyn Nesbit. His sensational 1906 murder at the hands of Evelyn's husband, Harry K. Thaw, was quickly dubbed “the crime of the century.” This very special episode, however, turns away from the scandal to focus on White's work, his artistic eye, and his extraordinary design talent. Stanford White's great-grandson, architect Samuel White, joins The Gilded Gentleman for an in-depth look at how White's genius developed and evolved, and how he managed his collaborations with partners Charles McKim and William Mead, as well as with the renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. With Sam's unique perspective, this conversation offers fresh insight into some of White's most celebrated works and illuminates the creative vision of one of America's greatest architects. Welcome back to your favorite daily comedy show, where we ask the hard-hitting questions like: Are you showering wrong? And more importantly… who gets your stuff when you die?Today's chaos kicks off with a surprisingly heated debate about the “correct” order to shower. Shampoo first? Conditioner last? Face before body? Moon brushes his teeth in the shower like a certified menace. We discuss dermatologists claiming conditioner can clog your pores and give you body acne, and somehow that leads to a philosophical breakdown about loofahs, washcloths, and whether hotels are secretly a biohazard experiment. Then things escalate — as they do on this daily comedy show — into a full-blown discussion about death planning. Green burials. Human composting. Hydro cremation. Viking funerals (Rafe's preference: cannon into the ocean). Lern attended a green burial seminar and now has a death doula on speed dial. She's planning to be tumble-dried with wood chips for 60 days and returned as nutrient-rich soil. We're not kidding. This is real.Rizz and his wife spent the afternoon doing estate planning, which means answering extremely uncomfortable questions like:Who makes medical decisions if you're incapacitated? At what age should your kids get access to money? And how much does an onyx urn weigh? (Answer: more than you think.)Moon shares how his dad's ashes are currently in a stone urn — but may one day be returned to a meaningful river. We also dive into cremation trends, the future “ash epidemic,” and why talking about death might actually be healthier than pretending it's not happening.Oh — and somewhere in the middle of all that?We play Matchup With Moon, argue about The Truman Show, debate the fourth-largest state, and guess how many pieces of art are in the St. Louis Art Museum (spoiler: not 317).It's laughs. It's weird. It's oddly profound. It's exactly what a daily comedy show is supposed to be: hilarious chaos with a side of real life.If you came for funny stories and sarcastic humor, you're in the right place. If you stayed for compost burial logistics… honestly, same.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.St. Charles woman nearly scammed while searching for her missing dog‘Dog years' is just a myth: New research shows non-linear relationship between dog and human yearsDog crashes women's Olympic team sprint race, crosses finish line in chaotic moment‘HIDDEN VALLEY RAAAAANCH': Why Are People Singing About Salad Dressing Online?Grandson of Reese's founder alleges Hershey has switched to cheaper ingredients – sparking family feudFlorida restaurant faces backlash after selling pizzas with iguana meat as toppingJudge says lawsuit over Buffalo Wild Wings boneless wings has "no meat on its bones" Jack in the Box Brings Back Iconic Hot Mess Burger for 75th AnniversarySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
