Romans 8 invites us into a profound meditation on suffering, creation, and the hope of glory that awaits us. We discover that suffering isn't something God overlooks—it's actually a tool He uses to shape us into mature believers who reflect His image. Like a silversmith heating silver until he can see his reflection in it, God allows trials to remove the impurities in our lives. The passage reveals something remarkable: all of creation is groaning alongside us, waiting for redemption. From the moment sin entered the world in Genesis 3, the ground was cursed with thorns and thistles, and decay became part of our reality. But creation hasn't given up hope. The seas, rivers, trees, and mountains all long for Christ's return when everything will be made new. Even the darkness at Christ's crucifixion and the earthquake that split rocks testified to creation's recognition of its Creator. We're challenged to examine whether we share creation's eager longing for Christ's return, or whether we've become so comfortable with our earthly blessings that we've lost our heavenly focus. The promise is breathtaking: God will replace every thorn with a cypress, every briar with a myrtle. Kristin Anders faces a vehicular homicide charge in Slidell, Louisiana after police said she hit and killed her grandson in their driveway. Slidell Police say Anders was under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs when she pulled out of the driveway on Tuesday morning around 7 a.m. Anders' five-year-old grandson, Carson Lawson, was in the driveway waiting for the bus and was hit by Anders' large SUV. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast, we've got two guys from different generations who've collided with big riffs in recent years: Tom Morello and Jordan Benjamin. Tom Morello is best known as the guitarist for Rage Against the Machine, which smashed together heavy music and activism in the 1990s, inspiring countless bands—some good, some bad, as he'll freely admit—to sprinkle some hip-hop into their rock. Morello went on to form Audioslave with Soundgarden's Chris Cornell and find a whole other area of success, but he didn't stop there: Morello goes wherever the muse takes him, from playing with Bruce Springsteen to doing acoustic sets as The Nightwatchman. He's always working on new music—and always outspoken politically. Morello tapped Jordan Benjamin to contribute to his 2021 single “Hold the Line,” which makes perfect sense, because the music that Benjamin records under the name Grandson is certainly inspired by Rage, among other artists of course. Grandson has been releasing records for the past decade or so, fusing hip-hop and alt-rock elements with unabashedly political lyrics. For his latest album under the Grandson name, Inertia, Benjamin leaned into a more organic rather than electronic sound—you'll hear him talk about the transition in this chat. Throughout the twentieth century, few names loomed as large in the business and financial worlds as John Paul Getty. Once the richest man in the world, Getty made his fortune in the oil industry and an avid art collector, with a massive collection that served as a basis for the Getty Museum, the wealthiest museum in the world.  Getty's wealth and business acumen made him a household name well beyond his death in 1976; however, that same wealth and notoriety made him a target for con artists and other criminals. Among those who sought to extort the Getty family, no attempt was more incredible and sensational than the kidnapping of Getty's favorite grandchild, J. Paul Getty III, by an Italian crime syndicate in 1973.At first, the scion of the Getty family refused to negotiate with kidnappers, arguing that, if he paid the money, they would only kidnap other members of this family.
