Couples therapy is often seen as the fix for relationship problems, but what if it actually makes things worse? In this episode, we unpack why traditional couples therapy or marriage counseling might not work unless deeper emotional wounds are addressed first. We explore how unresolved attachment trauma, unmet childhood needs, and inner child work play a major role in how we show up in romantic relationships. You'll hear how unconscious expectations, coping patterns, and childhood experiences silently sabotage even the most well-intentioned communication tools. If you're considering couples counseling, or feel like it hasn't helped, you'll walk away with a clearer understanding of why healing must start individually, and what needs to happen before therapy can actually work.– Resources: Lavinia's Making Peace with Your Past signature holistic healing programme: https://www.laviniabrown.com/making-peace-with-your-pastAndrew's 1-1 RESET Coaching Programme: https://www.andrewlynn.netBook a Deep Dive Relationship Recovery Session: https://calendly.com/d/ck3y-gzt-kbc/3hr-deep-dive-relationship-recovery-session–

All dancers can relate to wanting to be more confident. If we could just dance more confidently, with less anxiety and more freedom we could finally show up as the dancer that we want to.But as a ballroom dancer, standing on deck, ready to go on the floor, feeling all of that anxiety and pressure to please our partner, teacher, and/or ourselves, the pressure can prove to be too much. We might think that we want to be calm, or relaxed. This week I want to try on the idea that what we actually want to feel is self trust. Self trust might be a concept that we have not considered in the past as the antidote to anxiety and the key to dance confidence. Listen in as we offer three dimensions of self trust. Your PAST self, your PRESENT self and your FUTURE self all have specific ways that they can offer you ways to trust yourself. By way of announcement, we are steadily adding podast episodes to YouTube on my TY channel, Amber Haider Coaching. Go check it out and share with your fellow ballroom, salsa, country, and other partner dance friends! Join my Facebook Group, JOYFUL BALLROOM to be a part of a fun, positive ballroom dance community!

What if the past isn't behind you—it's within you?
Hi listeners! Welcome back to the podcast! This is season 5 (can you believe it?) and episode 117! I took a few weeks off to enjoy my family over the holidays and to spend some time on a few exciting things I have in the works, so I appreciate your patience as I took a break from putting out the podcast. But now we're back and there are a lot of exciting episodes coming up in this season and I can't wait to introduce them to you! Did you know that 20% of the youth that age out of the foster care system are instantly homeless. Tori Hope Petersen was one of those young adults who decided it would be easier to go it alone than have to navigate the system that caused her so much pain, having been in 12 foster homes from the ages of 12-18. But Tori was blessed to have mentors to come alongside her and help, eventually becoming adopted by her track coach. Tori's mom came from brokenness and generational curses and did the best she knew how, but Tori has become intentional about breaking those curses in her own family. She also does advocacy in the foster care system and has written two books, Fostered: One Woman's Powerful Story of Finding Faith and Family Through Foster Care, and her just released book, Breaking the Patterns that Break You: Healing from the Pain of Your Past and Finding Real Hope That Lasts. As I spoke to Tori, I realized that, even though she's still so young, her experiences have made her wise beyond her years. If Tori's story encouraged you would you kindly leave a rating and a review on your favorite podcast app? You can go to my Facebook or Instagram at Building Strong Homes and find a video there that will show you how to do that if you're not familiar with the process. What if the version of yourself you think is you is actually just a story—a false narrative woven from your past traumas, fears, and societal pressures? And what if freeing yourself from this story could unlock a life of true authenticity, joy, and freedom?Today, I am thrilled to bring you Bryan Hubbard, a visionary thinker and the creator of Time-Light Therapy. Bryan is also the author of two groundbreaking books: The Untrue Story of You and Time-Light: How to Let Go of Your Past, Be Your True Self, and Become Who You Were Always Meant to Be.Bryan's deeply personal journey began with his battle against chronic depression, a struggle that led him to a profound realization: depression wasn't something external—it was intricately tied to his very being. This revelation inspired him to create Time-Light Therapy, a revolutionary model that challenges how we view time, self, and healing. In this episode, we dive into the core concepts of being "time-heavy" versus "time-light," exploring how we carry the weight of our past into the present and how to liberate ourselves from it.We'll also talk about practical tools for rewriting the false narratives that keep us stuck, discuss how childhood traumas shape our adult selves, and explore the interplay between the past, present, and future. Bryan offers a unique blend of philosophical depth and actionable insight guiding us toward inner freedom and fulfillment.Episode highlights:00:55 Brian Hubbard's Personal Journey with Depression01:17 The Concept of Time Light Therapy03:14 Brian's Early Life and Psychological Abuse04:20 The Role of Key Figures in Brian's Life05:54 The Turning Point: Realizations and Inspirations09:39 Understanding Time and Trauma14:17 The Psychological Past and Its Impact17:52 The Potential Center and True Self28:30 Techniques for Rewriting Your Story32:12 The Power of Forgiveness34:20 Understanding Parental Perspectives36:41 Exercises for Empathy and Understanding39:42 Mindfulness and Non-Narration46:54 The Impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences50:26 Healing from Trauma54:51 War, Conflict, and Memory58:35 Conclusion and ResourcesResources mentioned:Time LightBooks by Bryan HubbardGuest's social handles:FacebookInstagramP.S. My guest Sharon Hughes is not only an award-winning author but also a confidence and self-worth expert, coach, and speaker. Sharon was not always confident and filled with self-worth though. She shares with us how she grew up with a lot of abuse. Then, when she was 16 years old, she went to a party where she was given a drink with drugs, unbeknownst to her. She ended up being physically assaulted in a garage. Eventually, when she was 17, her father kicked her out of the house. Sharon was able to pick herself up and started her own business that became internationally known for home décor. Her book is titled The Girl in the Garage: 3 Steps to Letting Go of Your Past.
