My friend Erin Cardillo is on the show this week talking about her new movie, and first movie, "Isn't it Romantic." She first started writing this movie 9 years ago. Nine years! And it's now hitting theaters. Let this serve as a lesson in not giving up on your dreams. Erin and her writing partner Rich Keith have been on my show before talking about their TV projects. They are a very successful writing duo and are currently working on several shows right now. I have offered to sleep with them if they will put me in their shows, but so far they haven't taken me up on my offer. What I love about them is their sense of humor. It's clever and thoughtful and they really go the extra mile to nail a joke. And I think you'll see that same sense of humor come through in Erin's film as well. When you listen to this interview you'll hear how she says the movie went from her original idea, to New Line, to the hands of very skilled touch up writers, then eventually into the hands of Rebel Wilson, who also stars in and produces the film. "Isn't it Romantic" is a rom com that doesn't take itself too seriously which is exactly what makes it great. Every romantic comedy in the last several decades has relied on certain tropes that make it fall into the rom com category. This film sees those cheesy moments, and blows them up into a hilarious, romp that never let the audience forget we're all in on the joke.Rebel plays Natalie, a rom com hater who through an awkward encounter with a potential suitor, bumps her head and finds herself in the middle of a very corny rom com. We get to follow her journey as she resists the silly situation she's found herself in, and ultimately discovers who her true love is. The best part? It's not all who you think it will be. Adam Devine plays her best friend/unrequited love in the office. He and Rebel have an adorable chemistry that fans have been on board with since the Pitch Perfect movies. Adding into the mix the hilarious Liam Hemsworth and Priyanka Chopra and you have a delightful mix of real and fantasy love interests. "Isn't it Romantic" hits theaters on Valentine's Day. It stars Rebel Wilson, Adam Devine, Liam Hemsworth, Priyanka Chopra, Betty Gilpin and Brandon Scott Jones. It was directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson.

In our second conversation with Elliot Knight we take a deeper look into everything, from his relationship to auditioning, to how he makes the distinction of being in love with the performance, the storytelling, and the craft rather than the industry and what that difference means for him. He talks about wanting to be the kind of performer who reveals rather than masks. This is a conversation for anybody that needs reminding to own and honor the space you take up, to be expansive, to be vulnerable in your art, and how to let life imitate art. Elliot Knight is an English actor best known for his break out performance in the British television series “Sinbad,” playing the titular role. Knight received his theatrical training at The Manchester School of Theatre before landing the coveted role. Knight appeared as a recurring character in the BBC crime drama “By Any Means” before making his US television debut in ABC’s “How to Get Away with Murder,” joining Viola Davis, Aja Naomi King, and Alfred Enoch. Knight joined the cast of ABC’s hit fantasy series “Once Upon a Time” as Merlin in the show's fifth season. He starred alongside Juliet Rylance and Antony Starr in “American Gothic” before being cast in Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith’s “Life Sentence,” which aired on the CW. “Life Sentence” follows Lucy Hale’s character Stella as she navigates life after her terminal cancer is cured, her family, and her relationship with her husband, played by Elliot Knight. The show is currently available on Netflix. You can catch Elliot on Greg Berlanti’s DC universe “Titans,” which has just finished its first season. IG: @itselliotknight

Erin Cardillo and Rich Keith have been developing TV together since 2011, but it was winning the 2013 New York Television Festival that solidified their partnership. Shortly thereafter, they partnered with Alloy Entertainment to develop Significant Mother for CW Seed, a half hour comedy that was picked up to series by the network and premiered on The CW in 2015. Also in 2015, Cardillo & Keith sold an original pilot script to The CW called, The I Do Crew, with Little Engine Productions and Warner Brothers. In 2016, Cardillo & Keith served as Co-Executive Producers for Fuller House season 2 on Netflix and sold another original pilot to The CW called Life Sentence, with Doozer Productions and Warner Brothers. Life Sentence premiered on The CW in 2018. In this episode, we learn how two entirely different career paths landed Erin and Rich exactly where they needed to be, from first meeting in an acting class in Los Angeles, to winning the prestigious New York Television Festival for their pilot, and all the little moments in between. Listen to find out how they wrote the script that became their calling card to agents and how they earned themselves a development deal with the top networks in the industry. This is an incredibly insightful interview for every actor and writer who wants to find their own voice. Recently, Cardillo and Keith have began their own production company called In Good Company. Look out for Cardillo’s upcoming romantic comedy, Isn’t It Romantic, starring Rebel Wilson, Priyanka Chopra and Liam Hemsworth. IG: @theerincardillo, @richkeith

Today's Guest: Ryan Barton-Grimley, indie film director, The Truth There are essentially nine speaking parts in Ryan Barton-Grimley’s new indie film, The Truth. And two of those parts are in one scene--a couple of actors playing cops who are virtually superfluous to the story--so let’s say seven. Ryan Barton-Grimley, director of The Truth Order The Truth starring John Heard, available by clicking on the DVD cover above! RYAN BARTON-GRIMLEY podcast excerpt: "John Heard -- talk about a saint! We had somebody else, a very notorious actor, notoriously troublesome, cast in that role. He dropped out two days before filming. John Heard came onto our three-week shoot a week in. He saved the day. He's amazing." This is the kind of movie I think Hollywood could learn from in this age of tight budgets and stories that wind out of control. Barton-Grimley tells a taut, suspenseful tale that really leaves the viewer in fear of what revelation—or truth—is coming next. And even when we know, we still don’t know. I heard about The Truth, which stars John Heard, Daniel Baldwin, Erin Cardillo and Brendan Sexton III, because illegal copies of it are flooding the Internet. It’s obviously been the subject of a lot of buzz and curiosity. Cool, huh?
