Welcome back to another episdoe of the Evolved Radio Podcast! In this episode, I'm joined by Peter Melby and Ryan Barton with New Charter Technologies.  Sure, AI is everywhere these days, but we cut through the hype to talk about how things actually changed when ChatGPT hit the scene and suddenly put powerful AI tools in the hands of everyone. Ryan shares how that breakthrough moment inspired him to roll up his sleeves and experiment with AI in real business scenarios. Peter talks about why New Charter decided to take a hands-on approach with AI, instead of just waiting around for vendors to figure it out. We talk honestly about what's working, what isn't, and why sometimes you just have to make your own path with new technology. If you want an inside look at how AI is impacting MSPs or you're just curious about what's really possible right now, tune in! We've got practical insights, plenty of candid takes, and even a few laughs along the way. This episode is brought to you by Opsleader Pro. A place for MSP owners and managers to get the systems and tools they need to build a stable and growing MSP. Part group coaching, part peer group, everything you need to run a successful MSP.

New Charter Technologies has made a significant move by acquiring Orchestrate AI Labs, a company focused on integrating artificial intelligence into managed service provider (MSP) operations. This strategic acquisition aims to enhance New Charter's capabilities by combining human expertise with AI automation, positioning the company as a leader in the evolving IT landscape. Peter Melby, CEO of New Charter, expressed enthusiasm about leveraging Orchestrate's AI technology, while Ryan Barton, the CEO of Orchestrate AI, has joined New Charter as Chief Innovation Officer, emphasizing the transformative potential of AI in the MSP industry. The podcast also discusses the notable decline in ransomware payments, which dropped by 35% to approximately $814 million in 2024, following law enforcement's disruption of several major ransomware gangs. Despite this decrease in payments, the number of reported ransomware incidents on dark web leak sites has reached an all-time high, indicating that while attackers are targeting more victims, fewer are complying with ransom demands. The report highlights that automated tools played a role in 87% of attacks, and sectors such as education, healthcare, and technology were the primary targets.Additionally, the episode addresses the growing concerns surrounding the use of generative AI tools in organizations. A report revealed that companies typically have 67 generative AI tools operating without proper licensing, with 90% lacking approval. The podcast emphasizes the need for businesses to manage AI tool usage rather than impose outright bans, as many organizations are investing in strategies to prevent data leaks and control inputs. The average organization's lack of visibility into how sensitive data is processed poses significant security and compliance risks. Finally, the podcast highlights research indicating that AI is primarily viewed as a collaborator rather than an independent assistant, with 57% of AI use focused on augmenting human capabilities. However, there are concerns that over-reliance on AI could lead to a decline in critical thinking skills among users. The findings suggest that organizations should prioritize enhancing human expertise while actively managing the risks associated with cognitive complacency, particularly in high-stakes industries where precision and accountability are essential. Four things to know today 00:00 Good News: Ransomware Payments Are Down. Quotes: "Each person will have a different point of entry, and those points won't be the same. You don't have to take everything on at once. It's not possible or desirable because if you overwhelm yourself quickly, it's a good way to discourage yourself from doing anything." - Christopher Mastropietro "I had no idea what was possible in relationship until I started doing the practice of authentic relating and circling, and now it's so much richer." - Taylor Barrett “Behind all the hermeneutics of suspicion, there is a hermeneutics of beauty. There are people out there still pursuing and practicing the good. I strongly believe that I've found good people doing good work and creating a great place. I just wanted to address that concern you might have and ask you to rationally hope that there's an alternative to all of that bullshit and that's on offer here.” - Dr. John Vervaeke “When you're signing up to participate, you're contributing to the creation and the unfolding of this project. This flows in both directions, you're not taking something away, but you're actually giving into it. This is a participatory and co-creative process, and it has to be that in order for it to fulfill and be true to its own intentions.” - Christopher Mastropietro “For those of you who identify and are happy to identify with spiritual but not religious, this is a place to bring disciplined learning to that proposal.”  - Dr. John Vervaeke

While there is a lot of mention of GPT and other chatbots, this argument is meant to be seen as confronting the principles of AI, AGI, and any other forms of Artificial Intelligence.   First, Dr. Vervaeke lays out an overview of his argument while also contextualizing the conversation. Dr. Vervaeke then explores the scientific ramifications and potentialities. Lastly, Dr. Vervaeke concludes in the philosophical realm and ends the argument with a strong and stern message that we face a kairos, potentially the greatest that the world has ever seen.   Dr. Vervaeke is also joined in this video essay by Ryan Barton, the Executive Director of the Vervaeke Foundation, as well as Eric Foster, the Media Director at the Vervaeke Foundation.

To take an organization, to grow it to its next level, you have to embrace the transformation that comes along with it.

What are the 4Q's?  (1) Favorite films, top 3. (2) An underrated film. (3) An overrated film. (4) A lesser-known film people should seek out. Ari Schneider and Ryan Barton-Grimley have co-starred in two feature films, "Elija's Ashes" in 2017 and "Hawk and Rev: Vampire Slayers" in 2020.  Ari and Ryan are the real deal, an on-screen comedy duo.  During the Golden Age, movie studios knew the value of keeping comedy together for multiple films.  Ryan and Ari are keeping the tradition alive. It's also a science movie, but also a band movie?? But it could also be about the inner workings of the internet, sleezy record producers, and Japan? Or maybe about the moral question of whether holograms deserve rights? But it might actually be about body possession and also a villain origin story! It's all over the map here, people!!! It's a busy episode of #BTLRadioShow as we're talking Oscar nominations, plus. . . ALEXANDRA LORETH and KEVIN PONTUTI are live talking about their new film making its world premiere at the virtual Cinequest Film Festival, THE YELLOW WALLPAPER. Mesmerizing and hypnotic, the film dazzles with its meticulous and methodical sound design and rich cinematography. Take a listen as we dive into not only the excitement and anticipation of a world premiere but "the making of" THE YELLOW WALLPAPER, starting with the challenges of adapting this acclaimed gothic feminist horror story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman which essentially takes place in the mind of the protagonist, giving a fully tapestried identity to her, and then crafting meticulous tactical visuals that bring the story to life. In addition to discussing the stunning and metaphoric visual design both from a cinematographic and production design standpoint, we delve into the use of sound and the film's overall soundscape, all of which fuel the pacing as it progressively spirals into frenzied intensity. This is definitely one of my "Must See Films" of 2021! And then RYAN BARTON-GRIMLEY is back with us talking about one of my indie faves of 2020, HAWK & REV: VAMPIRE SLAYERS, which now has distribution and is available on VOD and DVD. While everyone will enjoy Ryan's neverending amiability and sense of humor, filmmakers, in particular, will appreciate some of Ryan's pearls of wisdom on making the "lo budget/no budget/micro budget" indie and the challenges to anticipate when trying to get the film to market. Some valuable lessons to be learned today. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Honestly… The world is just so serious. It’s exhausting being tapped into media and technology 24 hours a day. It’s really intense how many issues are happening around the world. There are so many problems everywhere and I was looking for an escape… I was looking for a laugh and something heartfelt. I was looking for some much-needed levity and humor. I was looking for a break. Hawk and Rev: Vampire Slayers is quite simply a love-letter to my childhood and a more innocent and clueless time when everything seemed possible and like it would turn out okay. It’s a love letter to goofy weirdos with big dreams and ridiculous ideas. It’s just plain old fashioned escapism. Sure, there are themes and morals and critiques of the 80’s, specifically toxic masculinity and homophobia in there too, but at the end of the day, I really just hope you enjoy the ride and leave with a nice heartfelt feeling and the knowledge that maybe… just maybe… we’ll all be okay. “ Media Inquiries for Hawk and Rev: Vampire Slayers, Film: October Coast www.octobercoastpr.com

2020 is a horror show on all its own. So, what better way to alleviate the stress it is causing than by enjoying blood-soaked horror sprinkled with comedy? You can do that as soon as this Friday thanks to Hawk and Rev: Vampire Slayers, a film made by comedic actor, writer, and director Ryan Barton-Grimley. We spoke with Ryan about how this film came about and how it transitioned from something dark into something more lighthearted yet gory. Hawk and Rev will be having a virtual screening this week at Dances with Films LA. Click here to get your tickets!Synopsis:Philip “HAWK” Hawkins doesn’t just dream about killing vampires… He eats, sleeps, drinks and freakin’ breaths it. After getting kicked out of the Army for staking a fellow soldier with a blunt two by four, Hawk almost dies of boredom working as a night security guard at a deserted warehouse in his hometown of Santa Muerte, California… USA. Just when it looks like all Hawk’s options in life have expired, filthy blood-sucking vampires appear and of course… Nobody freakin’ believes him! With his back up against the wall, his sweaty Karate Kid headband tied on tight, real tight, and hordes of blood-thirsty vampires closing in, Hawk enlists the help of the one person who kind of believes him… Revson “REV” McCabe, a dimwitted, vegan-pacifist groundskeeper. Together they join forces to save the whole entire freakin’ world. Well… At least their hometown anyway. (feature – horror/comedy) Runtime: 84 minutes

And what a show we've got today thanks to our special guests, writer/director RYAN BARTON-GRIMLEY and Emmy-nominated Editor NENA ERB! First up, RYAN BARTON-GRIMLEY "stakes" his place on the show to talk about the upcoming Dances With Films world premiere of his latest film – HAWK & REV: VAMPIRE SLAYERS! Always a fan of vampires and slaying, HAWK & REV is pure hilarity with fun performances and 80's pop culture references (poor George Clooney), not to mention solid production values. And, in addition to writing and directing HAWK & REV, Ryan stars in the film as Hawk, and does editing work as well. Listen between the laughter as Ryan talks about the concept, his love for the 70's and 80's films which are the basis for the design of the film, characters and casting, cinematography and working with cinematigrapher Sean Ayeres, the use of color, time lapse, VFX and VFX, the importance of pre-vis and storyboarding, Robbie Elfman's scoring, and more! HAWK & REV has its World Premiere on August 28th as the Midnight Feature on Opening Night of Dances with Films. It's also closing the festival on September 5th! This is an absolute "Must See Festival Film"! And then Emmy nominee NENA ERB joins us to talk about her latest Emmy nomination for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series for her work on the multi-nominated HBO comedy series INSECURE. Take a listen as Nena talks about her process for editing a single-camera comedy series, selecting an episode for Emmy consideration – in this case, her Emmy nominated "Low Key Trying", finding the balance between interpersonal comedy and drama, bringing "herself" into the editing, going with her gut, working with director Kerry Washington, the editing process and timeline of pressure from script to editor's cut, mentoring, and so much more. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

S10 E12 We are in the finals babies! The boys are back and they have had highs and lows. Nicholas barely survived the week with his multiple trips to the ER and Chad won the first show for the UCB All Stars Drag Race. The boys welcome back Ryan Barton a dear friend of the show who has a obsession for turquoise and Chad will talk about it at Ryan's funeral. We cover the special nature of the UCB Drag community before we jump into the episode. The top 4 queens are insanely talented. They are all stars and are deserving in their own right. How do we choose the one true winner? Aquaria turns over a new leaf, Eureka doesn't annoy, Asia is regale as hell, and Kameron shows that shes top 4 for a reason. The boys don't hate Todrick nearly as much as usual. The boys cannot agree on whether Asia is relatable or not. Was Eureka's finale look fully realized? Can a shy queen like Kameron ever be America's Drag Superstar? The final number resonated with the boys. Nicholas is really here for the Aquasia friendship. S10 E3: Drag Race is bringing it and your hosts are as well! We welcome the wonderful Ryan Barton (UCB Harold team Dollhouse and Queer World.) We cover all the drama with Aquaria and The Vixen and what it means for the greater drag race world. The ghost of Miss Vangie is still haunting the halls of the workroom. RuPaul was not herself and we are trying to get to the bottom of it. Was her body snatched? Was she replaced by a robot? Was she bummed that the sale at Williams Sonoma ended before she got there? The hosts get to the bottom of it, but very quickly because they have no time! Chad's got a hard out so they serve their fastest episode yet. Nicholas will not allow anyone to come for Costco's signature brand Kirkland. Also guest Ryan Barton is giving out his seal of approval left and right! Today's Guest: Ryan Barton-Grimley, indie film director, The Truth There are essentially nine speaking parts in Ryan Barton-Grimley’s new indie film, The Truth. And two of those parts are in one scene--a couple of actors playing cops who are virtually superfluous to the story--so let’s say seven. Ryan Barton-Grimley, director of The Truth Order The Truth starring John Heard, available by clicking on the DVD cover above! RYAN BARTON-GRIMLEY podcast excerpt: "John Heard -- talk about a saint! We had somebody else, a very notorious actor, notoriously troublesome, cast in that role. He dropped out two days before filming. John Heard came onto our three-week shoot a week in. He saved the day. He's amazing." This is the kind of movie I think Hollywood could learn from in this age of tight budgets and stories that wind out of control. Barton-Grimley tells a taut, suspenseful tale that really leaves the viewer in fear of what revelation—or truth—is coming next. And even when we know, we still don’t know. I heard about The Truth, which stars John Heard, Daniel Baldwin, Erin Cardillo and Brendan Sexton III, because illegal copies of it are flooding the Internet. It’s obviously been the subject of a lot of buzz and curiosity. Cool, huh?
