He is given a ring that grants him superpowers and must confront Parallax, a being who threatens to upset the balance of power in the universe. The film also stars Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins. Green Lantern was released in the United States on June 17, 2011, by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film received generally negative reviews from critics for its script, tone, visual effects, and unfaithfulness to the source material, and underperformed at the box office, grossing $237 million against a production budget of $200 million. It was also originally intended to start a film franchise based on DC characters. However, due to the film's critical and commercial disappointment, Warner Bros. scrapped plans for a sequel. WGA, DGA, GOLDEN GLOBE nominee, and Emmy Governors award recipient, Greg Berlanti is the force behind some of the most creative and acclaimed works in film and television. He began his career in TV as a staff writer on the hit show Dawson's Creek, becoming an executive producer and showrunner of the series after only one year on staff. Since then, Berlanti has served as a creator or executive producer on over 45 television shows including such beloved hits as You, Everwood, Brothers & Sisters, Arrow, The Flash, Riverdale, All American, Found, The Flight Attendant and many others. Berlanti Productions has had as many as 15 shows on the air at one time — a record-breaking number of shows to air at one time for a tv producer and creator. He made his film directorial debut in 2000 with The Broken Hearts Club and has since directed several projects including the critically acclaimed film, Love, Simon. Berlanti has also produced numerous feature films including My Policeman, Rock Hudson: All That Heaven Allowed, Free Guy, and Red, White and Royal Blue. "I can't decide if my freinds are the best or worst thing that ever happened to me". We watched "The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy" written and directed by Greg Berlanti and we've got some gay stereotypes to squash! Whelp it's taken up this long to finally get to this one.  When did we get to the point where a movie from the year 2000 is considered a period piece? Aside from feeling personally attacked by that little tidbit, the fierce fashions in this movie were absolutely sending us. Let's just say those polyester shirts looked very... flame retardant. Millers Outpost shopping spree aside, this film means a lot to gay men of a certain age. Representation matters and seeing a (somewhat) realistic protrayal of gay men in their twenties, riddled with anxiety, self doubt and all the other little things that make us just... regular people, was such a breath of fresh air. Listen, maybe everyone in this movie is a heart-throb (ahem - Timothy Olyphant?!) but at least there was no clichéd coming out story, sassy GBF or "Noble Gay" dealing with the horrors of HIV. We got as close to a gay version of "Friends" as we could for 2000. Maybe some of the dialogue is a little heavy handed but writer/director Greg Berlanti was 28 when he made this movie! At that age I couldn't even balance a checkbook! We as gay people, we get to choose our gay movies we turn into a personality trait. Ahsoka is able to retrieve the map, but she tosses it aside after it burns her hand. Skoll overpowers and sends Ahsoka plummeting into the ocean as Wren watches in horror. Wren then holds the map at gunpoint, but Skoll verbally manipulates her into handing it over by promising her that she will see Bridger again. After Thrawn's location is revealed, Skoll destroys the map and boards the Eye of Sion with Hati and Wren as their prisoner. A squadron of New Republic fighters, led by Syndulla, arrives at Seatos and tries to stop the freighter from jumping into hyperspace, but fails to do so.
