Almost eight years since we started our broadcast, we have reached episode number 200. More than 200 hours of music and nearly 3000 songs shared with all of you. For this episode, entitled Romantic Crooners, I have prepared a selection of male vocalists who sing songs of love, some of heartbreak, ideal for listening on starry nights, rainy afternoons or when winter knocks at the door. Tune in as Arthur's buddy Anna hops back onto the program for a deep dive into Don't Worry Darling, the 2022 psychological thriller that had been swamped in a notorious wave of media frenzy (remember the spit mystery, anyone?). But once you dig past the Hollywood hubbub, what do you get with this mindfuck-lite trip through a 1950s desert-set company town whose vision of idyllic suburbia just may be hiding dark secrets beneath the surface? Along with unpacking all of that on this episode, the discussion covers rom-com chatter that ranges from Anna's Isn't It Romantic-related story to the hosts' shared take that Set It Up is enjoyable enough while being overrated, Anna's numerous imitations of Harry Styles's “our life together” line, Arthur's hatred for the Wicked trailer, and interesting material from both the spec script and the revised script that had ultimately been left out of DWD (perhaps to its detriment). Directed by Olivia Wilde, Don't Worry Darling stars Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Chris Pine, Olivia Wilde, KiKi Layne, Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, Sydney Chandler, Kate Berlant, Asif Ali, Douglas Smith, Timothy Simons, Ari'el Stachel, Steve Berg, and Dita Von Teese. He went on to get his BFA in Musical Theatre from Pace University and shuffle ball changed his way into the company of The Boy From Oz, where he made his Broadway debut in 2003 followed by Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and Bye Bye Birdie.  He played the role of Buttons in the original Broadway cast of Disney's Newsies, and it was that show that truly solidified his Broadway veteran status. My Husband Made Me Do It

It's our 50th episode! Thank you so much to all of our listeners both old and new! This week we're watching Isn't It Romantic, a satirical take on rom coms starring Rebel Wilson, Adam DeVine and the lovely Liam Hemsworth.  Natalie is an architect living in a dreary and, dare we say, realistic New York City. She'd all but given up on love until she finds herself trapped in a PG-13 rom com. She'll have to let the story run it's course in order to escape!

Gwenyth Paltrow's cleverly disguised acting demo reel showcases her ability to do a posh English accent. 1998's Sliding Doors is a movie about that great eternal question, "what if things were different?" We follow Paltrow's character through to parallel timelines that part when she either does or doesn't catch a train. It costars John Hannah, who I think Americans will know best as the sidekick from those Mummy movies. Has Rebel Wilson's satire of rom-coms "Isn't It Romantic" done too good of a job highlighting all the cliches and faults of the genre to make this movie hold up? Maybe Paltrow's own questionable ideas will make Sliding Doors difficult to digest. So catch the train or miss it, either way, you're about to find out what Mike and Allyson thought about Sliding Doors. His professional journey has taken him from coast to coast and across the Atlantic. He graduated with a BA in Theater from The University of Southern California and interned at 20th Century Fox. I learned so much from this session with Shonali. She creates purely from the need to create and grow. I kicked the emotional tires and she honestly just seems like a naturally happy, yet driven creative person, self-motivated—with a key ingredient—HARD WORK! Oh and a great family, which she appreciates. Further Bio: She is a member of the popular comedy collective Variety Shac, with Chelsea Peretti, Heather Lawless and Andrea Rosen. Shonali was the host of the Shac's popular Upright Citizen's Brigade live show. She has also created television pilots for the Adult Swim and IFC networks. Brandon Scott Jones (Isn't It Romantic, The Good Place) had a pilot he wrote and shot passed on by a network. We chat about how his competitiveness as an adult is waning due to a childhood of intense athletics, the plethora of odd jobs he's had over the years (from Chuck-E-Cheese to AI at Microsoft), and the serendipitous moment that pushed him to sign up for classes at UCB. We are your valentine and so much more on this jammed episode of Breakfast All Day. Alonso, Ben, Matt and I are together again -- three weeks in a row! -- with reviews of the sci-fi extravaganza "Alita: Battle Angel," the horror-comedy sequel "Happy Death Day 2U" and the extremely meta rom-com "Isn't It Romantic." We also discuss "Fighting With My Family," the feel-good Dwayne Johnson wrestling comedy, and we play catch up with Steven Soderbergh's excellent "High Flying Bird" on Netflix. As always, we recap the latest episode of HBO's "True Detective" (and this one was gooood), and we discuss the Motion Picture Academy's ridiculous decision to omit crucial categories from the Oscars broadcast including cinematography (!!!) and editing (!!!). Chocolate counts as a breakfast food, so dig in and enjoy. UPDATE: A couple hours after we posted this week's podcast, the Academy announced that it would indeed present all 24 categories live during its Oscar broadcast in response to the massive backlash it received. So maybe we helped ...?
