She developed her research skills as an attorney practicing civil litigation in Los Angeles. In the best-selling Web of Debt (2007, 2012), she turned those skills to an analysis of the Federal Reserve and “the money trust,” showing how this private cartel has usurped the power to create money from the people themselves and how we the people can get it back. In The Public Bank Solution (2013) she traces the evolution of two banking models that have competed historically, public and private; and explores contemporary public banking systems globally. She has presented these ideas at scores of conferences in the US and abroad, including in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Canada, Iceland, Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Croatia, Malaysia, Mexico and Venezuela. Brown developed an interest in the developing world and its problems while living abroad for eleven years in Kenya, Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua. She returned to practicing law when she was asked to join the legal team of a popular Tijuana healer with an innovative cancer therapy, who was targeted by the chemotherapy industry in the 1990s. That experience produced her book Forbidden Medicine, which traces the suppression of natural health treatments to the same corrupting influences  that have captured the money system. She also co-authored the bestselling Nature's Pharmacy, which has sold 285,000 copies. Ellen ran for California State Treasurer in 2014 with the endorsement of the Green Party garnering a record number of votes for a Green Party candidate. Ellen Brown – Banks For People Is NOT An Oxymoron!Aired Tuesday, 23 July 2019, 5:00 PM EST / 2:00 PM PSTShifting Financial Power From Wall Street to Main StreetInterview with Ellen Brown, Author of “Banking On the People: Democratizing Money In the Digital Age”“I don’t know about you, but I am nostalgic for the good old days, when PEOPLE robbed BANKS.” — Swami BeyondanandaEconomics, and particularly the banking industry and monetary policy seems to be a mysterious black box to most people – our guest this week, Ellen Brown, characterizes it as a “sausage factory.” She is obviously referring to the quote attributed to Otto von Bismarck: “Laws are like sausages. You should never see them made.”In other words, if we actually understood how and why banks do what they do, and how monetary policy is made – we’d never “swallow it”. Ellen Brown, author of the classic “Web of Debt,” a follow up book, “The Public Bank Solution”, and her latest in the trilogy, “Banking On the People: Democratizing Money In the Digital Age”, sprays the issue with “demystifier” and offers thoughtful, breakthrough solutions that will shift financial power and wellbeing from Wall Street to Main Street. When I traveled to Washington, D.C. a week or two after the 2008 election, there was literally dancing in the streets. The mood felt like the liberation of Paris or the fall of the Berlin Wall. But a lad and a lack. For many complex reasons, Obama bailed out Wall Street but not Main Street, and in the past decade we’ve come to recognize that the financial institutions that were “too big to fail” were not too big to fail the American people. As a result, the American middle class seems to have gone the way of the typewriter and slide rule, as the gap between rich and poor actually grew during the Obama administration. Bank loans for new businesses have been replaced with credit card debt that has further impoverished local enterprise, while the mega-banks continue to make mega-profits.This week’s guest Ellen Brown is the founder of the Public Banking Institute and the author of a dozen books and hundreds of articles. She developed her research skills as an attorney practicing civil litigation in Los Angeles. She also co-authored the bestselling “Nature’s Pharmacy”, which has sold 285,000 copies.Today most of our money is created, not by governments, but by banks when they make loans. “Banking On the People” takes the reader step by step through the sausage factory of modern money creation, explores improvements made possible by advances in digital technology, and proposes upgrades that could transform our outmoded nineteenth century system into one that is democratic, sustainable, and serves the needs of the twenty-first century. If you’d like a simple understanding of a complex financial “shituation” along with outside-the-box and inside-the-box functional solutions, please tune in this Tuesday, July 23rd at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET. http://omtimes.com/iom/shows/wiki-politiki-radio-show/To find out more about Ellen Brown and her work, please go to: https://ellenbrown.com/One more thing… How YOU and WE Can Make a DifferenceHave you noticed that regardless of which of the two political parties you vote for, neither of them seem to be willing to confront Monsanto and agribusiness? Taking the rap for the excesses of 1960s counterculture, psychedelic drugs and their users went underground and the ongoing ‘war on drugs' has kept them there. So what is a former public defender and law professor doing taking LSD? Ayelet Waldman joined the group of scientists and citizens talking about the therapeutic benefits of LSD when she decided to experiment with microdoses of LSD herself and document the process. She found that for her, it had significant benefits and she asks how we can get drug policy to align with evidence, rather than ideology. Chaired by Natasha Mitchell, journalist and presenter of ABC RN's Science Friction. This conversation was recorded live on stage at the Festival of Dangerous Ideas 2018.

Ellen explains why the debt ceiling is unconstitutional, how the government is legally committed to paying its debts. She points out the contradiction that has been for more than 100 years, since WWI. The easing put into place at that time was only to be a temporary measure. Ellen also talks about shadow banking causing the crisis by money being lent into existence, slight of hand. The only real money are coins, which are one-tenth of the total money in circulation. Ellen also discusses QE2 , where the government agreed to pay the interest on borrowed money in order to maintain control of the Federal Funds rate. She said there are a lot of reserve funds on the books in certain foreign banks, including bond dealers, that is just being held.  Ellen also touches on the national debt, Glass-Steagall, and proposes state-owned banks as part of the solution, with the basic idea that we take care of our own, much the same way that Japan is reliant on their own Central Bank. Ellen Brown developed her research skills as an attorney practicing civil litigation in Los Angeles. Despite the direness of the situation, reform is long overdue and the situation is bad enough so that people are unlikely to tolerate a blatantly bad system, if introduced to a betterone that would serve (rather than fleece) their communities and their country. Reform the Money

In this episode we continue our investigation into monetary systems and the inner workings of privatized banking. Our money system is not what we have been led to believe. The creation of money has been "privatized," or taken over by a private money cartel. Except for coins, all of our money is now created as loans advanced by private banking institutions — including the private Federal Reserve. Banks create the principal but not the interest to service their loans. To find the interest, new loans must continually be taken out, expanding the money supply, inflating prices — and robbing you of the value of your money. Not only is virtually the entire money supply created privately by banks, but a mere handful of very big banks is responsible for a massive investment scheme known as "derivatives," which now tallies in at hundreds of trillions of dollars. The banking system has been contrived so that these big banks always get bailed out by the taxpayers from their risky ventures, but the scheme has reached its mathematical limits. There isn't enough money in the entire global economy to bail out the banks from a massive derivatives default today. When the investors realize that the "insurance" against catastrophe that they have purchased in the form of derivatives is worthless, they are liable to jump ship and bring the whole shaky edifice crashing down. Web of Debt unravels the deceptions in our money scheme and presents a crystal clear picture of the financial abyss towards which we are heading. Then it explores a workable alternative, one that was tested in colonial America and is grounded in the best of American economic thought, including the writings of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. If you care about financial security, your own or the nation's, you should read this book. Ellen Brown developed her research skills as an attorney practicing civil litigation in Los Angeles.
