According to a recent report by Harvard University, the first two decades of the 21st century were laser focused on "increasing voter turnout among the 'low propensity' voters in their communities, especially people of color and young people." These were groups largely "invisible" to the mainstream election industry. So, at the time, grassroots organizations welcomed the approach. But was it the right move? Today, Ohio is experiencing a higher level of disengagement and cynicism than in comparable states. Add to this, Ohio's notoriety as a "swing state" has lost steam--and national Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts have set their eyes on neighboring states like Wisconsin and Michigan. What can be done to repair the trust and relationship-building at the foundation of community organizing? And how can we better enfranchise those in our own communities? Join the City Club as Signal Cleveland's Frank Lewis takes on the "forgotten voter" and Ohio's GOTV efforts.

Please welcome to our show my dear friend, Ann Potenza, who is bringing an exceptional play to life in Los Angeles for the upcoming Women's History Month, called “The War of Roses - The Women. The Voices. The Vote.” This is an important play that talks about the women suffragettes, and the play follows some of the most memorable names who were at the forefront to getting women out to vote. In fact, “The War Of Roses,” making its debut the El Portal Theatre in No.Hollywood on 3-1 and 3/2, is also encouraging all participants to Get Out The Vote (GOTV) that evening. Ann is also a well-established Events Planner in Los Angeles, behind some of Hollywood's most notorious events, starting with the San Gennaro festival she brought to LA a few years ago, along with her cousin, Jimmy Kimmel, exec producer Doug DeLuca, and other notable Italians. So we will also be talking with Ann about growing up Italian, some of her favorite traditions, hanging with Jimmy as kids, and where she sees the Italian community growing in the future. And it's all Amore! Please join us on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, and #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast on all video and audio platforms. Everyone remembers the iconic rapper, LL Cool J's song, "Momma Said Knock You Out". He had a line in that song that's symbolic to what's being going on this week, sort of - Don't call it a comeback? It's reportedly getting "Hot in Herre" for Nelly, at least financially, and fans want to help. Here's the "Dilemma:" In the wake of reports that the rapper is facing a $2.4 million tax lien, folks are streaming his music and offering tributes to him as part of the effort to #SaveNelly - No comeback. After rapper Desiigner was accused - and later cleared of gun charges acquired last week during an incident where he was accused of waving a gun around in a car stocked with hundreds of loose narcotic pills…it turns out there were actually no drugs on the scene either. It actually turns out that they were his bodyguards who was later arrested...go figure - BIG comeback! BBD is back! Bell Biv DeVore returns with a new Notorious B.I.G. sampling track, “Run,” and with a new album on the horizon. The new album from Ricky Bell, Mike Bivins and Ron Devoe is called "Three Stripes" and is due out January 27, 2017. The National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) is launching, "Project Black Voter Turnout 2016: 20 Million Black Voters to the Polls" comprised of more than 211 Black-owned media companies operating in the US, to issue front-page news coverage and motivational editorials and website ads to promote effective Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) campaigns in the Black community. The least of a comeback gotes to Kanye West. Fashion critics and Twitter slanderers alike have all threw shade and shots at Kanye’s Yeezy Season 4 fashion show that took place during New York’s Fashion Week. The “multiracial only” models in the show were either falling down from heat exhaustion or not knowing how to walk in high heels. Comedic entertainer, Paris Sashay called in to let us know what's going on with her #TheTeethandTittiesCampaign. Check her out on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook @ParisSashay. We got much more - don't go ANYWHERE!!
