Please welcome to our show, my friend Marla Tellez, award-winning newscaster at Fox11 Los Angeles, who joins us to talk about career, personal struggles growing up, and becoming a mama a few months ago at the age of 48! Growing up, Marla said she never dreamed of becoming a news anchor or reporter. She had other ideas, but when the opportunity presented itself, she grabbed it and never turned back. Now, she anchors along side an incredible team at FoxLA that includes my friends Elex Michaelson and Christine Devine, arguably one of the best newscasts in town (of course I worked there, so I'm biased). Marla has an incredible story of her own, and wait until you hear it. Not an easy childhood, she worked hard to keep strong while navigating some pretty challenging hurdles, particularly with her dad. We'll ask her about that and what kept her going. Marla is also a runner, which not only keeps her sane, but also fit. Now 49, she had her first baby just a few months ago - Sloane - and I'm so in love with this little girl. We'll talk about the challenges of pregnancy at a certain age, and how she and her husband are managing, because soon, Marla will be back at work, and we'll talk about the challenges we all face as new moms. And I had some advice for her! Please find our interview on all video and audio podcast platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.
Please welcome to our show my friend, Jake Steinfeld, founder of Body By Jake, the phenom fitness lifestyle routine that's changed bodies from flabby to fit worldwide. But that's just part of his story. Jake is also a successful entrepreneur and he'll be talking about a new product that he's launching. He is also an established actor, and is one of my all-time favorite movies (think Eddie Murphy). In a town rumored to be transactional, he's anything but, having been married for decades to my beautiful friend, with whom he shares four children. Jake is a family guy, and often referred to as the “Honorary Mayor of Pacific Palisades,” and yes his home, and just about everything in it, burned to the ground in the January fires. But perhaps it's his resilience that I most admire, always looking ahead, creating new business opportunities, remaining positive, and focusing on rebuilding. And I thought, there's a lot we can learn from Jake Steinfeld about how to keep going even when the world seems to be going up in smoke, and he joins us to talk about his life, career, family, and incredibly positive attitude that he lives by. And there's more...we'll ask him about any possible political ambitions we're hearing about, too. Please join me in welcoming Jake Steinfeld on all video and audio podcast platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.
May is #MentalHeath Awareness Month, and I'd like to welcome to our show mental health advocate and author Tracey Yokas, whose book, “BLOODLINES, A Memoir Of Harm And Healing,” is gaining attention for its raw portrayal of tackling mental health issues so they don't consume your life. I met Tracey at a writer's group I'm a part of, and I was instantly drawn to her story. There are so many struggling with past wounds and aren't sure how to heal or even where to turn. BLOODLINES shows us it's possible to recover and lead a healthy life. She talks about her family's journey with mental illness and healing so people don't feel they're alone. We will also discuss Tracey's early years that led her to this point, and what fuels her. When she isn't writing about mental health and wellness, Tracey can be found playing with paint, glitter, and glue, and she says it's art that fuels her passion for connection in community. She is also dedicated to supporting women by creating safe spaces where art, words, and vulnerability meet. Tracey is a former entertainment industry professional, and has lots to share on that, too. Being in the same writing group, I will also ask her what motivated her to finally publish her journey. A bold step I'm still considering. Please join me on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and make sure to invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and I welcome you here❤️
Whenever I return from Italy, where my family is from, I wonder why I don't get a place there for my family to enjoy. But I have no idea where to start, who to call, or what it involves. Please welcome Antonello Pierro, attorney and Italian real estate expert to our show, who can walk us through the steps on how it done. First up, purchasing property in Italy is different than buying a place in the states. So you need to know the rules so that you don't run around in circles wasting time and spending money you don't need to spend. Also, once you find that coveted property, what's involved in terms of contracts, and you need to be fully protected. For example, there's different types of properties to purchase, and Antonello can walk us through those steps, too. Please join #deborahkobyltlive, #LittleItalyPodcast & #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast on all video and audio podcast platforms. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here. Please invite your friends to listen, too!
Please welcome to our show a woman I've long admired, Lavinia Errico, co-founder/owner of the powerhouse gym #Equinox, in addition to the founder of MOVEJOY, a platform that guides women through movement to heal, rise up, and feel more joy. And that it does! But it's not just Lavinia's business chops that are impressive, it's her sincere mission to help others, whether it's in the fitness space, spiritual, or change-of-life. Lavinia walks her talk when it comes to building others up so we can all be mentally and physically healthier. I recently attended one of MOVEJOY's events in Malibu, not sure what to expect. But I came away feeling understood, like there was a genuine sisterhood in that space, acknowledging we were all there to learn and grow. There were interesting speakers with real take-aways, physical movement, art therapy, and friendship. And I mean it when I say people were there from every walk of life to learn, and we did. We will also journey into Lavinia's background that ultimately led her to create one of the most exclusive gyms on the planet, #Equinox, and how she's extended her work into the space of healing of wellness. Lavinia is also a sought-after speaker, and we'll talk about that, too. In addition, she's Italian from New Jersey, so you can bet we'll do a little diving there, too. Please join me in discussion with #LaviniaErrico on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, & #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast, and invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.
Health and wellness has been all the talk for decades now, and Adrienne Youdim, MD triple board certified physician, author, and Tedx Speaker, breaks down what people are hungry for, and how to achieve better balance in our daily lives. Often, it's about simplicity. Adrienne wrote, “Hungry for More,” which explores what's really eating at us, why we develop unhealthy habits, and how to break the cycle. She asks, “What are you hungry for? Love? Connection? Belonging?” We'll talk about that, but also the mental drain so many are feeling now, whether it's from world events, too much social media where we mindlessly scroll for hours, or for those of us in LA, the aftereffects from the fires here and the mental toll it's taken on our health. I often wonder if we've lost our way, and what's a simple and organic way to get back into balance. We'll talk about that, too. Please join my conversion with Adrienne Youdim, MD, on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and invite your friends. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.
Award-winning chef, @Barbara_Pollastrini, owner of @da_Barbara_P restaurant in Hollywood, has been cooking up masterpieces in the kitchen since she was a little girl in Rome. And dining at her restaurant here, it's easy to see why Appetito and Los Angeles Magazine named her one of the top Italian restaurants not to miss in LA. The entire experience is like being in someone's home. In fact, the kitchen at da Barbara is literally part of the dining space, so you can watch your meal being prepared while enjoying a glass of wine. Please join me in welcoming Barbara to our #LittleItalyPodcast & #DeborahKobyltLIVE, where we will dive into her early years studying in Rome and her dream of coming to California, making a name for herself while competing in shows on the Food Network and Discovery Channel. Clearly her dream came true, as she is not just a famed chef, but also a female entrepreneur. Barbara also serves on the board of the Italian-America Chamber of Commerce West @IACCW_LA, led by president Genny Nevoso and a group of dedicated professionals - all women. Please join our discussion with Barbara on all video and audio platforms of @deborahkobyltlive, @littleitalypodcast, and @littleitalyoflapodcast. Please welcome my resident political analyst, John Kobylt of the award-winning #JohnKobyltShow on #KFIam640 and #iHeartRadio, updating us on issues that matter, from the massive gas price hikes expected in California, to Rick Caruso and his incredibly effective Steadfast LA, which aims to help victims of the deadly January 7th wildfires rebuild more efficiently without government red tape. We'll also talk about the #StayInLA movement to keep filming here in Los Angeles, a city filled with creative minds and innovators, but in recent years companies have been leaving due to the high cost of doing business in California. We will also talk about the aviation disaster at some of our airports, namely Newark, NJ, where air traffic controllers have walked off the job due to stress over recent equipment failures. It is said that in some airports, floppy disks are still being used, and equipment is severely outdated. The there's of course the tariffs. One day it's up, next day it's down. Where do we stand, particularly with Asia? We'll talk about that. Join us LIVE on all video and audio podcast platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and please invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here. @JohnKobyltRadio @steadfastLA, @stayinLA @kfiam640 @iheartradio
When disaster strikes, the chaos that follows can leave communities and individuals feeling overwhelmed and struggling to connect with vital resources. Please welcome Heather Hackett, founder of Local Relief, a nonprofit mobile app designed to connect communities with essential help, services, and information once disaster strikes, serving as a central hub for disaster preparedness, survival, and recovery. Heather is from my home in Sarasota, Florida, which is no stranger to floods and hurricanes, and 2024 proved to be one emergency followed by another, leaving communities and individuals looking for information on how to recover and where to find relief. The Local Relief app connects residents with local authorities and organizations to access life saving resources during crises such as hurricanes, wildfires, and floods. Residents can find food services, shelter locations, and recovery assistance, all while communicating directly with neighbors and professional services offering help. That's the heart of Local Relief-turning chaos into connection and resilience. We will talk with Heather about her vision for Local Relief not just in Florida, but in other communities as well, including here in SoCal, clearly no stranger to natural disasters from fires to floods and earthquakes. Local Relief is a boots-on-the-ground nonprofit, and local volunteers are strongly encouraged to get involved, because who knows their community better than its residents? Heather was named Humanitarian of the Year 2024 by the Lakewood Ranch Community Foundation. Let's just say this isn't her first rodeo in the space of giving back to her community, and we will discuss that as well. We're stronger when we work together, whether in Los Angeles, Sarasota, or anywhere else we call home. Please join me in welcoming Heather to #DeborahKobyltLIVE & #TheSarasotaPodcast on all video and audio podcast platforms, and invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here. Also, if you have a story idea, particularly in #Sarasota where we're looking to grow our podcast, please let us know
The world has never been the same since January, 2025, not here in LA since the catastrophic fires, and not nationally since President Donald Trump took office. So we're talking to @JohnKobyltRadio today about what's happening both here and around the country. John hosts the number one local talk show in the country on @KFIam640 and @iHeart, talking with experts daily about what's going on, what to expect, and what the heck is happening. We do NOT always agree politically, so our conversations are always interesting. We'll be talking about what's been done since the fires in the Palisades/Malibu and Altadena. The cost, the efficiency, all of it. We'll also delve into the homeless crisis in this city that seems to be an ever growing controversy in who is doing what, and where's the money for it? Nationally, tariffs, 401k's, and the growing concern so many Americans have over what's next. It's a lot to take in. Please join @JohnKobyltOfficial and me, #DeborahZaraKobylt, when we discuss this and more on #DeborahKobyltLIVE, on all video and audio platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and iHeart. We look forward to having you join us. And invite your friends, too.
It's been just 100 years since silent films were all the rage in Hollywood, followed by talkies, moving color, digital, and now AI. Please join me in welcoming two experts in the film world who join us to talk about the ever-changing world of Hollywood, Valentina Castellani Quinn, president of Quinn Studios Entertainment, and Marvin Williams, founder of Big M Entertainment Pictures, discussing their latest venture on the Sony Pictures Studios lot to combine the best of Hollywood with the latest technologies. Valentina's father-in-law was Anthony Quinn, and she talks about the timing of this venture with Sony, once Columbia Pictures, which produced one of Mr. Quinn's greatest films, Lawrence of Arabia. The film's poster hangs proudly in the halls of Sony to celebrate its 100-year anniversary making motion pictures. Marvin, best known for producing “The Jungle Book,” among other classics, said he plans to combine the past with the future of Hollywood projects by merging AI technology with art. He says much like Netflix, Apple, and Hulu, streaming is where it's at. At least for now. Will they transform older films with AI technology? We be talking about that, too. We'll also discuss some new ventures, including involvement with the Canne Film Festival and a very “passionate” film development that's in the works as well. Please tune into #DeborahKobyltLIVE, the #LittleItalyPodcast and #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast on all video and audio podcast platforms to hear our discussion. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and I thank you for joining us.
Debora Medici-Guetta has inspired me since the day I met her. I could feel her intense passion for her work, her support of women, and for being someone not afraid to talk about her journey in life. So won't you please welcome her to our show this incredibly talented photographer & photojournalist, graphic artist, and documentary filmmaker. Debora was born in Rome, and the first time she landed in Los Angeles, she felt at home among other creatives free to express their art unfiltered. She now divides her time between here and Italy. Debora took time off, like many women, to focus on family. Her husband is famed artist #MrBrainwash, aka Thierry Guetta, and that alone is a full time job managing that level of notoriety. But a decade ago, Debora decided to get back into the game and began the intuitive process of reframing who she was, one image at a time. A return to making art meant embarking, in Debora's words, on “a big, long, introspective journey.” After several years refining her technique and honing her perspective, she would reveal a series of photographs aptly titled, “Out of The Shadow,” a haunting body of images that reflected Debora's desire to shed the trappings of the past and position herself as an artist in the world. She followed this exhibition with “Landed”, a series of collages that capture the frenetic and freeing energy of the world's great urban centers. As her vision grew, so did Debora's interests, so she started working with, and eventually joined, the board of directors for We Do It Together (WDIT), a nonprofit that produces films, documentaries, TV, and new media uniquely dedicated to the empowerment of women. Recently, for International Women's Day, the group launched “One of Us,” a documentary for which Debora served as honorary set photographer. The film, sponsored by Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles, follows four Italian women who are challenging gender bias and discrimination in their fields of work. We will talk with Debora about her incredibly successful career, and how she encourages women to discover who they are. She says her work “prioritizes emotions over mere moments,” and we'll talk with her about that, in addition to her life, and of course living with #MrBrainwash himself. Lots to ask there. Please join my interview with Deborah Medici-Guetta on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, & #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to have you with us.
Please welcome to our show, Eden Alpert, partner at Vibrato Grill Jazz in Bel Air, which remains one of the most outstanding places in LA to hear LIVE music while enjoying amazing food and drink. But it's the story behind Vibrato that really steals the show, and it's all about Eden. Eden grew up in LA, the adopted daughter of jazz great Herb Alpert and his then wife, Sharon. She was adopted through Vista Del Mar, an all Jewish Family and Child non-profit service agency at the time. But as Eden tells it, her early years were far from perfect, describing her mother as a raging alcoholic and drug addict, while her dad was on the road. Which was a lot. Her parents divorced when she was three. But Eden decided she didn't want to be a victim to her past, she did A LOT of therapy to find peace and balance. She also went on a journey to find her birth mother, but that didn't quite work out as expected, and we'll talk about it. When her father opened Vibrato, Eden worked as a hostess, but after her dad saw how customers gravitated towards her, she not only managed the place, she eventually became partner. Let's just Eden is who people ask for when they walk through the door, she keeps it going as the vibrant, A-list venue that it's known for. Yet it's tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, so locals love it, too. Eden has one daughter, the light of her life, and when we spoke she was busy planning her wedding. And she was also on her way to a board meeting. She is big into philanthropy, and serves on four boards. Yet she still found time to call me for a preinterview, because that's how Eden rolls. Please find my full conversation with Eden on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and I thank you for joining us.
Please welcome to our show, the director of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di LosAngeles, AKA the Italian Cultural Institute, Emanuele Amendola, and he joins us to discuss the mission of the @iiclosangeles in bringing cultural, scientific, academic, and culinary experiences that highlight everything authentic direct from Italy. The programs are all free, engaging, and open to everyone. Emanuele works closely with our Consul General of Italy in LA, Raffaella Valentini, and together they have forged a partnership that brings us the best of everything from Italia, including products direct from Italy. Each exhibit, talk, and experience is unique. Recently, there was a showing and discussion about the film, Womeness, followed a few days later with the opening and lecture about the Volterra exhibit. There was a Q&A and demonstration with famed chef Nancy Silverton, and the list goes on. So we wanted to know, how does Emanuele select what to present to the public, because the Cultural Institite goes beyond the walls of their physical location in Westwood. Their work extends down to San Diego in addition to nine states, so in effect, they take their work on the road! Also, in addition to top exhibitions, musical performances and more, the @IICLosAngeles offers language courses and incentives for exchange programs. Before coming on board here in Los Angeles, Emanuele was appointed Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Washington DC, where his duties included fostering partnerships between Italian and American cultural institutions. He started his tenure at the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles in January 2022. Please give a warm welcome to Emanuele, and join our interview on all video and audio podcast platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, and the #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.
As we continue to celebrate #InternationalWomensMonth, please welcome my guest, Yvonne Scio, actress, model, and the writer/director of the documentary, Womeness, which was just recently screened at the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles to rave reviews! Yvonne, who was raised in Italy, is also known for her work in the 2006 version of The Pink Panther, in addition to Redline, and Rose Red. She's appeared on TV in both Italia and the States, including The Nanny. In fact, here's a bit of trivia for you - her best friend is Fran Drescher, who was in attendance at the screening of #Womeness. Yvonne's film is a magnificent look into the stories of five extraordinary women, offering a portrait into female resilience, identity, and the evolution of feminism. Womeness unfolds in two parallel narratives: on one side, three women who lived through the formidable season of Italian feminism, who reflect on the battles fought, the victories won, and the challenges that remain. On the other side of the story, and the world, are the lives of two women who defied societal prejudice by following the painter Balthus to Italy, and embracing what became her silent revolution. Through music and performance, they turn art into resistance, amplifying the voices of women from Iran and beyond in their fight to reclaim control over their bodies. The film remains with me, it is extremely powerful. In addition, my dear friend, Lorenza Calamandrei, composed the music in the film. During our interview, we will ask Yvonne about the inspiration behind Womeness, and the impact the film is expected to create throughout the world. Now more than ever. Please find my full interview with Yvonne Scio on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast and #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to have you join us. Please invite your friends as well to this important conversation.
Petra van Bremen is one of the most beautiful and elegant women I've ever met. We were introduced at the Venice Film Festival, and sat next to one other during the gala dinner honoring Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon. That's where I got to know her, and I've been a fan ever since. Petra was born a beauty and has been modeling since she was a young girl in Europe. Last year, she was featured in Vogue, and it seems the older she gets, the more work she gets, too. It's no longer taboo to tell your age or let your hair go gray or white. Look at Andie MacDowell or Maye Musk. They're fashion icons, owning this time in life and feeling more empowered than ever, inspiring the rest of us to do the same. And that's what Petra is doing, too. Working the clothes from top fashion designers, showing the world that there's beauty in aging. And we talk about that, about her book on beauty, which is currently published only in German, and how we can all feel empowered at any age or size. We just have to believe there's no rules but our own. Please find my full interview with Petra on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE and please invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to have you join us.
Dr. Ira Dewitt inspires me. And a lot of other people, too. Ira grew up a sickly kid, but she clearly had some devine intervention because she's healthy now, traveling the globe, and is the founder of something not only beautiful, but truly inspirational, SAINT Candles. And recently, she founded the SAINT app, and she also hosts her beyond SAINT Podcast. Oh, and her husband is Bill Dewitt, President of the St. Louis Cardinals. On top of that, Ira is the proud mama of three children. How does she do it all? She credits her faith, and determination to live life to the fullest. In fact, she lives part-time in Rome, and says she embraces Italian life and culture as if she were born Italian. She's wasn't, but she has the spirit of one. We'll talk about Ira's faith and how it guides her, also her infamous SAINT candles have became the “it” candles in Hollywood, inspiring a place many say doesn't embrace faith, but it does. I've experienced it firsthand. Her SAINT app offers daily devotionals and inspiring messages, and her beyond SAINT Podcast will have you clinging to your chair. Check it out! Please welcome Dr. Ira Dewitt to #DeborahKobyltLIVE on all video and audio podcast platforms. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and I hope you invite your friends to join us, too! Should be a very inspiring chat
For a woman who never wanted to be a singer, international sensation Maria Elena Infantino has certainly made her mark. And we're thrilled to welcome her to our show today. Maria grew up in Rome to a famously talented family of opera singers. In fact, Maria is working on a documentary about her father, tenor Luigi Infantino, and we'll talk about that. Maria was schooled in London and studied drama, but upon graduating, her first job wasn't acting, instead, she sang a rendition of “Do You Want To Know A Secret” for the 50th Beatles Anniversary with Shirley Bassey at the Royal Albert Hall. She debuted as a professional actress on the ITV British series “Emmerdale.” She's hosted and produced a one woman show in London as a tribute to her father, and that same year, she was nominated for the 21st annual L.A. Music Awards as best International artist. Maria eventually made her way to Los Angeles, where she lives in addition to Europe. There, she created another one woman show based on legendary French Icon Edith Piaf. She's done so much, and often performs at one of my favorite spots in LA - Vibrato. What I notice most about Maria is how vibrant she is, always on the move and living life to the fullest. Did I mention she speaks five languages fluently? Please find join my discussion with Maria on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE #LittleItalyPodcast and the #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast on all video and audio platforms. Please invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.
ove LA Magazine? I don't miss an issue. How about Orange Coast, Pasadena, and SoCal Magazines for those folks living there? Well, the brains behind all of them is President and Publisher Christopher Gialanella, and I'm thrilled to welcome him to our shows today. Chris is from Livingston, New Jersey, and when I found that out, the two of us couldn't stop chatting about it because I went to the Livingston Mall all the time as a kid, shopping at Spencer's and all kinds of stores we both loved. After working in PR in New York, Chris made his way to LA, and quickly rose within the ranks of publishing, working for Modern Luxury and LA Confidential. And who doesn't get these magazines in their mailboxes, oohing and aahing at the gorgeous home and fashion spreads on the inside. Well, that's Chris' vision, too. And these days, we can't go anywhere without seeing Chris on the red carpet, including at the Oscars this year, and just about anywhere that's relevant in SoCal, you'll find Chris front and center. And he's a master at branding, too. We'll talk about that. We will also talk about the future of magazines and how they're pivoting to online, like most things. And it's profitable. Also, Chris is of ITALIAN descent, and we will discuss the Italian influences in his early life and today. Please join my #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast and #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast on all video and audio platforms, and please invite your friends, too. Please join me in welcoming one of the most talented comics of a generation, Tom Dreesen, who's appeared on Carson over 60 times, toured with Sinatra for nearly 15 years, was half of the comedy team Tim and Tom (with Tim Reid), and has written a best-selling book, “Still Standing...My Journey from Streets and Saloons to the Stage, and Sinatra,” that talks about it all, including when he found out he was Italian because who he thought was his dad, actually wasn't! There's so much to cover in our interview, including how he started along the Sunset Strip, appearing with comics such as Billy Crystal and Leno, performing with Sammy Davis Jr., and so much more. We're so honored to have Tom join our show and share his many experiences about life and career. Please join us and invite your friends, too. It's a pleasure to have you here, and share one of the greatest entertainment stories of a generation, and particularly about Tom's life as an Italian American, too. You'll find our show on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, & #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and I'm thrilled to have you here with us.
We are pleased to welcome to our show, Raffaella Valentini, esteemed Consul General of Italy in Los Angeles. Raffaella has years of experience having worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, overseeing projects promoted by Italy in the Balkins, North Africa, and Middle East. She's also worked at the Embassy's economic office in Albania and Cairo before coming to Los Angeles. Raffaella has keen ideas on how she sees her position here, as it covers a large territory from California to Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada, and she wants to make sure to serve the various economic and cultural groups in each region. For example, Los Angeles is so vast, and she sees her job as serving the many Italians and Italian Americans from each area in a variety of capacities including science, technology, film, food, travel, and more. And as a woman in such high office, she also knows how important it is to set an example for other women looking to leave their mark in political office. We will talk with Raffaella about her role with the cultural institute, as well as delve into her early life. Did she always want to be a diplomat? Were her parents in public service? What is perhaps the greatest challenge she sees serving the Los Angeles community? What are her immediate goals here? And for those Americans asking, the Consulate can guide on how to apply for an Italian passport, but it is not necessarily their job. I can tell you Raffaella has already left her mark. She is poised and a sharp learner. Diplomatic and effective. But there's lots of work she wants to get done, and we'll talk to her about that, too. Please join me on my #LittleItalyPodcast, #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast, and #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, a proud Italian-American whose family is from Avellino. Thank you for joining me, and please invite your friends as well.
It's all about love, and we need a lot of it, now more than ever. Please join me in welcoming my friend, Jennifer Greenhut aka @GreenhutTheBand, Stage IV Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Survivor, author, “Everyone Needs a Larry, Love with a Twist of Cancer,” and founder of the @ZeroNegativeOrg. Jennifer will talk about her journey with cancer, how she discovered she had Breast Cancer in the midst of trying to have a baby, and what ultimately saved her. She feels grateful, and for Valentine's Day, she's talking about spreading love and support for cancer patients with her “love totes” from @lovezeronegative, which are beautiful and proceeds support cancer research at the Johnson Cancer Center Foundation at UCLA. Oh, and there's more. Jennifer's parents and sister lost their homes in the Palisades fires, and they've all been pivoting to dealing with that tragedy, and she says there's lesson in all of that, too. And wait until you hear what survived!! Please join me on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here
There's so much loss and grief around the world, and here in Southern California, the amount of trauma from loss is monumental. How does one process losing their home, community, school, friends, everything? And what about those left with their homes standing, how can they help? Many are experiencing “survivors guilt,” wanting to help but have no idea how. Please welcome Susan Whitmore, founder and CEO of griefHaven, which takes us through the steps of dealing with loss, and how to help those experiencing loss and dealing with unimaginable grief. Susan started griefHaven after the untimely death of her only daughter, wanting to help others dealing with gut-wrenching grief and loss. The organization has since expanded to include various types of grief from losing a loved one to job loss and how to cope when disaster strikes. Certainly that would include the tens of thousands misplaced from the SoCal fires in Malibu, Palisades and Altadena. And there's a lot to talk about. Please join our program, #DeborahKobyltLIVE on all video and audio platforms. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's an honor to have you join us. @griefhavensupport #grief #griefsupport #griefjourney #griefresources
Valentina Castellani Quinn, president of Quinn Studios Entertainment, has been living the American dream, arriving from Florence and making a formidable mark in Hollywood as an award-winning producer and filmmaker, with films “One Rock, Three Religions,” “Wonderful Losers,” “Augie,” and others to her credit. She also recently signed a joint deal with Big M Entertainment Pictures and Sony Pictures Studios, but that's been put on temporary hold because Valentina recently lost everything to the devastating fires in Malibu where she lives. And now, she faces the harrowing ordeal of finding a new place while trying to rebuild everything from clothing to work folders. Valentina joins us to talk about not just what it's like to find your home and everything in it gone, but to discuss the long haul of dealing with insurance, price gauging, and more. She also wants answers as to how these fires got so out of control in Malibu, Palisades, Altadena and other parts of Los Angeles, and she talks about what she calls a lack of leadership that led thousands to homes to burn to the ground. We will also talk about the ramifications these horrendous fires could have on the Hollywood industry moving forward. And while many look at Los Angeles as a place of wealth and movie stars, it's really a working class town much like any other, and right now, there's a big struggle and huge hurdles to overcome. Please join me and Valentina on #DeborahKobyltLIVE, the #LittleItalyPodcast and #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast on all video and audio podcast platforms to hear our discussion. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and I thank you for joining us. January 2025 has brought on so many changes, some expected and others catastrophic. People started their new year with hope, and in a flash, much of that went up in smoke here in Los Angeles, where fires have claimed more than two dozen lives and charred nearly 15,000 homes, businesses, schools, places of worship, and other structures. What's next for these people and the communities they call home? How do they even begin to rebuild after such a catastrophic loss? And what went wrong? On the national stage, the 47th President of the United States was sworn into office promising to bring change to a multitude of issues from border control to inflation Some people look to Donald Trump as the savior to America, while others are concerned for the rights of women, gays, the environment, and climate change. What does it all mean? I invited #KFIam640 and #iHeartRadio talk & podcast host #JohnKobylt to join us on our show today because he's at the pulse of local, state, and national issues, with an emphasis on Los Angeles and California. He talks about what matters to people every day, so joins us to break it all down. I may not always agree with his point of view, but it's always a lively discussion. On a personal note, we were hiking in Pacific Palisades on 1/7/25, and one hour after we arrived home, the first plumes of smoke were spotted. It was hard to watch what folded next, and unimaginable to think of the loss so many are facing. And we know literally hundreds of people who no longer have a home. We're so deeply sorry for your loss and the loss of our communities. Please join my show LIVE on YouTube, Facebook, and on all audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt. Thank you for being here, and please share with your friends. @johnkobyltradio @johnkobyltofficial @kfiam640 #JohnKobyltShow #Radio #LosAngeles #KFIAM640
Do you love olive oil? I do, and it's not just for cooking and eating. In fact, it's been used for everything from bathing to skin and hair care, too. But how does a person know what's the best type of olive oil to use, to consume, to cook with? Please welcome my friend and award-winning chef, Amy Riolo, and Dr. Simon Poole, to discuss their latest book, “Olive Oil for Dummies.” In their latest book, Amy and Dr. Simon they walk us through the different types of olive oils from around the world, particularly the olive oils from italy. What's the difference between extra-virgin olive oil, virgin olive oil, and standard olive oil? We discuss that. Can olive oil be put directly on your skin as a moisturizer? We talk about that, too. And what about using olive oil to eat and cook with? Now that's the yummy part of our discussion. Please join me in welcoming our guests as we explore the beautiful world of olive oil. And if you like what you hear, you can order their book in time for the holidays, too! Please tune into all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, and the #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. Please welcome to our show today, Lainie Sevante Wulkan, food scientist and founder of The Center for Intuitive Food Therapy, in addition to author of “High Vibration Wellness: Intuitive Healing Therapies to Nourish Your Body Temple.” We'll be talking about how certain foods are killing us and how we can detox from them through food therapy that we can all practice from home. Particularly in the U.S., the ingredients in our food are unrecognizable, often creating an addiction to eating more foods that might taste good, but are harmful to us, causing health issues such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and early mortality. The only way out is to recognize this pattern, and learn to heal from within. And that's where Lainie comes in. She works with clients, holds retreats, and teaches us how to eat for our body type, and also learn how certain foods are meant to heal certain parts of the body, such as red peppers for the heart, celery for bones, and so forth. It's a scientific and spiritual journey into food and how it connects with nature and our bodies. Please join my full interview with Lainie Sevante Wulkan on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and invite your friends, too. Please welcome to our show Kristen Coffield, founder of The Culinary Cure and Active Grandparenting, who joins us to discuss how to feel better as we age. It's not easy, but small starts help, such as hydrating. If we do anything every day, drink enough water. It's good for our organs, skin, diet, and overall health. And if we're hydrated properly, everything else follows. Getting older is NOT easy, particularly when kids leave, parents pass on, and the life we knew for decades makes an abrupt change. It's hard, it hurts, and often we slip down the rabbit hole of making poor choices, leading to a slew of health issues. And getting out of bad habits only gets harder. Kristen knows, because she's been there, and fought her way back. Please join our discussion today with Kristen Coffield on all video and audio podcast platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and invite your friends, too. I'm your host, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.
Please join me in welcoming my friends, Dr. Mary Reid Gaudio and Gino Gaudio, filmmakers and founders of the Tony Gaudio Foundation, who joined us today to discuss the magnificent film they will soon debut about Oscar-winning cinematographer, Gaetano Gaudio, the first Italian-born filmmaker from Italy to win an Academy Award. And his story is fascinating. In 1906, Gaetano “Tony” Gaudio, a young man from Calabria, set out for the American Dream, arriving in the United States with a passion for cinematography, which was just developing in the motion picture industry. His family ran a successful photography studio in Cosenza, Italy, so making pictures was in his DNA. Tony eventually made his way from New York to Hollywood, where he quickly grew to be one of the most prized cinematographers in the industry, working with Hollywood's elite such as Betty Davis, Errol Flynn, and dozens of others. He won an Academy Award for his work in 1937 for Anthony Adverse. His statuette is missing, just like his story was for decades, until Gino, Mary, and other descendants of the Gaudio family brought his story to life in this documentary, with the hope of also finding his prized Oscar. Please join my interview with Gino and Mary on all video and audio platforms of #littleItalyPodcast, #DeborahKobyltLIVE and the #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.
Have your kids flown the coup? Do you feel lost, without purpose, and empty without them around? If you do, you're NOT alone, I'm right there with you, and we invite Dr. Brooke Stillwell and Dr. Lynne Mouw, founders of “Life After Kids” to talk about it and help us find our way back. I remember having little kids and people saying, “it goes fast.” That's a lie...because it goes by even faster! While I have a full life with friends and work I enjoy, I still find myself looking at the phone hoping to hear from one of my three boys. And it happens a lot. Is it normal? Yup. But not if it consumes us to the point where we can't enjoy life. And that's where “Life After Kids” comes in. Drs. Lynne and Brooke help us step into that next level with purpose. It can be small or it can be big, but it's a necessary step to finding fulfillment without our kids under one roof. Do I secretly wish my kids would all live here, or next door, or even in the next town? Yup. But they don't, at least not now. So I'm figuring it out like everyone else. Please find my interview with Drs. Brooke Stillwell and Lynne Mouw on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here. @life.afterkids #lifeafterkids¿ #momofolderkids #purposeafterkids #momssupportingmoms #emptynest
Please welcome to our show Dr. Kimberly McGeorge, creator of “Secret to Everything,” which specializes in alternative medicine, wellness, energy healing, and teaching how to tap into our psychic abilities. In fact, Dr. McGeorge says she'll do a reading on me during our show, which could be interesting. I've been told I'm a complicated study. Dr. McGeorge says we live in a culture addicted to feeling victimized, which isn't healthy. She talks about taking back your power through discipline, and teaches us techniques on how to do that. We'll also talk about mineral deficiencies. She says many people are deficient in critical nutrients, minerals, and vitamins and we discuss how to get our bodies back in balance. In fact, Dr. McGeorge practices a mind, body, soul approach, and we'll dive into what that means & how to channel it. Please tune into #DeborahKobyltLIVE on all video and audio platforms, and invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.
Please join me in welcoming documentary filmmaker, producer, and writer Meredith Yinger, whose latest work, “Scars Unseen,” follows the stories of three women from very different backgrounds, each victims of varying forms of abuse, which they each successfully overcame. Meredith is also the creator of She TV Media, which is dedicated to providing inspiring stories by, for, and with women. In fact, when Meredith was in school, she fancied herself to be the next Oprah, but she's now finding her work behind the camera and telling the stories of others to be her true calling. At least for now. Hear about her other projects, and her plans to bring the stories of others to life so we can all learn from them, and help one another, one woman at a time. And thanks to @BRA_Network_ for introducing us! Pleaee find my full conversation with Meredith on all video and audio podcast platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and invite your friends, too. Cathryn Michon is a filmmaker, actor, animal advocate, and she joins us to talk about her latest book, “I'm Still Here: A Dog's Purpose Forever.” So many of us are dog lovers. After all, they are our family. Did you ever wonder why dogs don't live longer? Cathryn addresses that and so much more in her national bestseller. “I'm Still Here” is told from the point of view of an angel dog, or a dog who has passed, revealing to those who loved him that he's in a safe place, and he's watching over his human family. It's a beautiful portrayal of the tenderness and bond that animals share with each of us. Cathryn has had an incredible career, and is the only woman screenwriter in America who had two feature films in world release in 2019, “A Dog's Way Home,” and “A Dog's Journey,” the sequel to “A Dog's Purpose,” all told from a dog's point of view. Cathryn's writing credits include “South Park,” “Designing Women,” and others. She's performed at Chicago's Second City and appeared both on TV and off-broadway. Well ask her about that, and when her love of animals began. Oh, and we'll talk about her husband too, author Williams Bruce Cameron, whose book, “A Dog's Purpose,” spent 52-weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. Did you know you could have kidney disease and not even know it? It happened to a family member of mine, and it nearly took his life. Please join me in speaking with Nanette Zumwalt and Mary Beth Barry, kidney recipients and ambassadors of the CORE Kidney program, which raises awareness about kidney disease as well as organ donation. Nanette received her kidney from a living donor, while Mary Beth's donor was deceased. Both women were in dire need of a kidney transplant, and they talk about their unique journeys with us. They also want to educate people about getting screened for kidney disease when they go for their yearly physical through a simple blood test. Kidney disease is a leading cause of death in the U.S., with an estimated 35-million people estimated to have chronic kidney disease. It's critical to know about your kidney health, how and what to eat to keep your kidney functioning, and well discuss that during our interview. This is a topic a lot of people don't think about, so we're here to learn more and get the conversation going. Please join #DeborahKobyltLIVE on all video and audio podcast platforms, and invite your friends, too. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to have you join us.
Michelle Danner, film director and founder, “The Creative Center for the Arts” & “The Los Angeles Acting Conservatory,” has had a remarkable career in multiple areas of the arts, and she joins us today to talk about longevity, how the business is changing, and how a good story always rules. Michelle is behind some of the industry's most notable films, from “The Italians,” “Miranda's Victim,” and “The Runner.” She is also set to direct the outer-space, sci-fi action thriller, “Helios.” Michelle is also a gifted acting instructor, and says this may be one of the best times to get into the business and hone your craft. With film and various network and streaming opportunities for actors, she teaches actors how to be their best, and teaches various techniques from Adler to Strasberg, Meisner, and Hagen. Most of us in LA know Fritz Coleman as the former weathercaster from NBC4 Los Angeles, giving us the sunny forecast of seven sun-balls for the week ahead. But did you know this five-time Emmy winner started out as a comic, got his first stint in weather by chance, was on the Tonight Show eight times, and has opened for legends like Ray Charles, George Benson, Jay Leno, and Debbie Reynolds? And now, he's starring in his own one-man show, “Unassisted Living,” available on Tubi and playing at the infamous Portal Theater in North Hollywood. And it's hilarious! The show is a friendly look at retirement, baby-boom style, and talks about everything from back pain to sex. Fritz talks about his own life, from childhood to divorce and everything in between. It's funny, clever, and it left me wanting more from Fritz, to learn about the man behind the happy weather talk. And there's a lot. He's a student of comedy, and grew up watching and learning from the greats. And when his uncle took him to a George Carlin concert when he was a kid, Fritz met his first love - comedy. Please join me in welcoming Fritz Coleman to our show, streaming LIVE on YouTube, Facebook, and all audio platforms. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to have you join us on #DeborahKobyltLIVE. Have a question for Fritz? DM us or leave your comments here. Please welcome to our show a voice you know well, award-winning newscaster @DebraMark from @KFIam640's @JohnKobyltShow, joining us today not to tell someone else's story, but her own. It's a very personal story, one she wants to share for #SuicidePreventionMonth. Most of us who know Debra would describe her as cheerful and always positive. She grew up in the Valley, her parents divorced when she was young, and she worked hard to make it in the news business. She is also married with two grown children. But twenty years ago, her life came to a hault when she got an email from her mother, saying Debra and everyone in the family would be better off without her. That was the last time she ever heard from her mom. In fact, it was Debra who found her mother. The story she tells is terribly sad and tragic, because no one saw it coming. So she wants to shine a spotlight on this serious mental health issue for anyone else out there going through something similar, or thinking about it. Please join us on this special addition of #DeborahKobyltLIVE on all video and audio podcast platforms. And invite any family and friends, too. I'm your host, #deborahzarakobylt , and I'm honored to have you with us @debra.mark #Radio #KFIAM640 #podcast @ubngo
Publisher and author Scott Ryan is like Google when it comes to TV and film. He knows the genres intimately, and has written niche books about everything from Letterman to Streisand. Today, he joins us to discuss his latest book, “The Last Days Of Cinema,” which is a brilliant look at cinema in the 90's and the impact those films had on pop culture at the time and in retrospect, today. Scott selected twenty-five films to for his book from thousands made in the 1990's, from Goodfellas to Magnolia and so many others classics, and he was very strategic in his selection. He's analyzed how films of the 90s shaped our culture, which was the last decade before social media took over and influenced millions. Having just returned from the #VeniceFilmFestival, I saw some magnificent films, but I'll admit there's a difference between films today and 30 years ago. I'll ask him about that, perhaps it's because of streaming, with less people collectively going to the movies? Scott has written many books including “Last Days of Letterman,” “Barbra Streisand The Music,” “Moonlighting,” and others that capture a moment in our culture that we all shared. Now, it's different, not better or worse, but just different. And it's not going back. Scott is also a publisher and founded Fayetteville Mafia Press, a boutique publishing company. He admits he's “living his dream” through his work, and where he lives in Sarasota, Florida, which I also call home (part time). There's a lot to talk about. Please join me on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE and @TheSarasotaPodcast. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here. Have a question for Scott? Please welcome to our show David Kessler, a leading expert on grief and loss, who will be discussing the different stages of grief along with his book, “Finding Meaning: The Sixth Stage of Grief.” Like most people, I've had my fair share of grief, and it rocked me in way I could barely recognize myself. I can say I wish I was introduced to David sooner, but everything has a place and time. David's personal experience as a child witnessing a mass shooting while his mother was dying undoubtedly had a profound effect on him. He went on to teach physicians, police officers, and first responders about grief and how to best handle grief. But he wasn't prepared for what followed, which was the untimely death of his 21-year-old son. That profound grief prompted him to write his latest book, “Finding Meaning,” which has helped thousands do the same. Also, grief extends beyond death. It includes the loss of a relationship, job, or something of meaning that extends to loss. He will talk about that, too. Please join me in welcoming David on all video and audio platforms of #deborahkobyltlive , and invite your friends, too, particularly anyone who is grieving. For anyone feeling not quite like themselves, I invite you to our show today as we speak with Paul D. Dr. Corona authored “The Corona Protocol” after years of research connecting the mind and body with well being. He's helped thousands with his programs, and said he switched from general practice medicine years ago because he felt it didn't feel traditional medicine was addressing a variety of mental health issues effecting much of society with today. Please join me with Dr. Corona as we discuss, “The Corona Protocol: A Scientifically Proven Medical Solution to STOP Addiction, Bullying, Homelessness, School Shootings and Suicide, 30 years in the making” on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, and invite your friends, too. Please welcome to our shows, Alexo Wandael, Italian film director, producer, and director based out of LA and NY, and he joins us to discuss an incredibly interesting project he's been working on called ITALIANY.US, where he photographs his subjects and black and white, all of them from Italy, and interviews them about the life they've created here in America. Why did they come here, what are their dreams, their passion for life. And we turn the tables and ask him this same question. Alexo has been a celebrated fashion and celebrity photographer, having worked for some of the more prestigious magazines in the world. He is also an award-winning filmmaker, featuring “To My Pink Lady,” “A Woman Makes A Plan,” and “Tomato Soup In Skid Row.” These are magnificently insightful works of art, and we will discuss his continued passion for his ongoing film and video projects, including “Vanity Fair Italia, Maye Musk.” Please join us on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, and #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast, and invite your friends, too. Please welcome our shows Alessandra Repini, who wrote, “THE ITALIAN LADY: The Perfect Guide To Making Yourself ever Cheerful, Classy and Admired.” Alessandra talks about how to discover the “modern day dolce vita and enjoying it wherever you are in the world,” which is another subtitle to her book. Have you ever noticed how Italian women always seem to look elegant, cook with finesse, and just seem to have an incredible warmth? Perhaps I'm biased, but I think they do, and Alessandra writes about that, everything from fashion, to furniture and food (the three F's). She also talks about travel and art in her book, how to stay fit and healthy, and it all follows what's natural to the Italian lifestyle. Alessandra lives in Italy with her family, maintains impeccable style, and she shares some tips on how we can absorb some of these Italian ways, too. Please join us on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast and #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast, and we encourage you to invite your friends, too. I'm thrilled to welcome to our show, Joshua M. Greene, who, in his own words, says he's spent much of his life's work “sharing extraordinary stories about extraordinary people.” Mr. Greene spent countless years practicing yoga and meditation with George Harrison, and eventually wrote “Here Comes The Sun,” a biography that chronicles the spiritual and musical journey of former Beatle. We'll ask him about that. Joshua is also a renowned Holocaust scholar and filmmaker, whose books have sold more than a half-million copies worldwide, including “Unstoppable,” “Justice at Dachau,” and books for young adults, including “The Girl Who Fought Back,” and “Signs of Survival, A Girl on Schindler's List.” We'll ask him about all of them. Mr. Greene is a popular lecturer who has spoken at the Pentagon, and his films and documentaries on Holocaust history have aired on PBS and Discovery. He's received numerous awards, including the Gold Metal at the NY International Film and TV Festival. On a personal note, Joshua M. Greene is married to Esther Lynn Fortunoff, of the famed Fortunoff family department store chain. They share a love of art and storytelling, two children, and an immensely eclectic and interesting life. Please join me in welcoming Joshua M. Author, playwright, performer, and TEDx speaker Susan Lieu joins us to talk about her tell-all book, “The Manicurist's Daughter,” along with her one-woman theatrical show, 140 Pounds: How Beauty Killed My Mother, which has been on a 10-city sold out national tour. About Susan: Her family are refugees from the Vietnam War, escaping to California in the 1980s after five failed attempts. Her mother successfully opened two nail salons, and life seemed to be going just fine, until one day when Susan was 11. Her mother died suddenly from a botched tummy tuck, with little mention of the incident even at her funeral. So, for the next twenty years, Susan looked for answers about what happened, and also why her mother felt the need to change her body. Did she struggle with body image issues? Was it pressure? Susan finally uncovered some disturbing facts, and which we will talk with her about, as well as the impossible ideal of beauty. Please join me in conversation with Susan Lieu about grief, trauma, and determination to get to the truth. And invite your friends, too. Our show, #DeborahKobyltLIVE is available on all video and audio podcast platforms. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and thanks for joining us.

We will discuss with Raffaella the history of the infamous explorer that the ship is named after, as well as the world voyage the Vespucci has traveled, and of course the significance of this moment in highlighting our Italian culture. Los Angeles is the first city in the world to host a maxi exhibition space called “Villaggio Italia” that will open from July 3rd-8th in front of the Vespucci ship at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro at Berth 50. Please welcome to our show one of the most dynamic jazz performers of our time, Lena Prima, daughter of jazz great Louis Prima, who has clearly carved out a name for herself in New Orleans and around the globe for her electrifying stage performances and albums. I grew up with Louis Prima's music playing in our Italian household. My parents, aunts, and uncles would dance to his music late into the evening on many weekends. So I was thrilled to meet Lena at the Italian American Museum in LA where she performed a few months ago, celebrating the Louis Prima exhibit currently on display there. Lena is a one-of-a-kind of jazz singer and performer, much like her dad. Her energy is the kind that comes around once in a generation, and watching her perform with her band, I can only imagine what it was like for her on stage with her dad when she was a kid. Sadly, Louis Prima died when Lena was 11, complications from a benign brain tumor. But everything about him in those eleven years made a permanent impression on Lena to this day. Lena grew up in Vegas but frequented New Orleans where her dad grew up. And her mom, Gia Malone, was also a singer and performer. Lena started her career in rock, but got the calling to perform jazz, and eventually plant roots in New Orleans, where she performs to this day. There's a lot to talk about with Lena. Please give a warm welcome to my guest, Marianna Cuomo Maier, certified health & wellness coach and founder of Grata Wellness, which helps people take charge of their health, find more joy in their lives, and often, she says, it starts with food. Marianna holds wellness workshops, meditation, and journaling groups at wellness events in support of finding our healthier, more balanced selves. And as she tells it, Marianna was not always a healthy person. She had to learn how to do it. Marianna also writes for @AppetitoMagazine, and in fact, we were introduced by Appetito‘s founder, @AndrewCotto, as well as my friend, @AmyRiolo, writer of many books on the Mediterranean Diet, specifically the Dummies series. Marianna is also founder of the Emerging Leaders Council of the Italian Language Foundation, which is dedicated to promoting Italian language and culture nationally. And if the name Cuomo sounds familiar, she is of the infamous New York Cuomo family. Her grandfather, Mario Cuomo, was a beloved governor of New York. Uncle Andrew was also NY governor, and Uncle Chris is a well-known, award-winning TV journalist. Please join my conversation with Marianna on how we can all be healthier in a world that often promotes fast living and fast foods. She also talks about life growing up Cuomo, and how her Italian heritage helped form her wellness routines she lives by today. Please welcome to our show the immensely talented Italian director and actress, Ilaria Borrelli, who is also a human rights activist. In fact, much of Ilaria's activism is reflected in her work, often with an emphasis on the rights of woman and young girls. I met Ilaria at the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles, when she was speaking about her film, “The Goat,” about an 11-year-old pregnant orphan forced into marriage in her small Ethiopian village, only to escape with her goat, which provides nourishment, companionship, and even friendship throughout her difficult journey to find her her father, and ultimately peace. The film stars Mira Sorvino and John Savage, along with young Egyptian Tik Tok star, Jessica Hosam. Ilaria has been behind some of the most prolific films throughout her career, including “Life Is Beautiful,” and “A Girl from the Brothel,” among others. We will talk with her about her adventures filming in often dangerous condition, her life's work as an actress and eventually behind the camera, and how it all began in Naples, Italia. She will also discuss her intense interest in spotlighting the dangers of human trafficking young girls, and how she hopes to shed a spotlight on the issue through her work. I'm honored to present Ilaria on our show, and thank you to my friend, Lorenza, for suggesting an interview. Please find my full conversation with Ilaria on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast, and #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's a pleasure to have you join us.
