Jesus said, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:62, NIV) Today, we look at Hard Sayings of Jesus, these are verses that seem to be misconstrued or wrongly interpreted, or do not mean what they seem to be. What does Jesus mean? Is this about Obedience? Is this about a false start or something else? We will answer these questions and much more.
Truth. Tough love. Hard sayings. When Jesus says things that rattles our 21st century senses, how are we to take them!? Just as they are. Dean Kalmukos guest speaks for this 3 entrance into his series he's preached sporadically at Woodland Friends!
Jesus came to earth as the Messiah, the Holy One of Israel, to speak life and light into a dark world. However, not everything he said was easy to understand or apply. Sometimes Jesus confused the crowds and even his disciples by what he said. We are kicking off a new series, Hard Sayings of a Kind Savior, looking at a difficult thing Jesus said to his disciples on the heels of Peter's confession of Jesus as the Christ. Join us as we dig into what it means to deny oneself and take up your cross in order to follow Jesus.

Ezekiel 33:1-6 New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition 33 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 O Mortal, speak to your people and say to them: If I bring the sword upon a land and the people of the land take one of their number as their sentinel, 3 and if the sentinel […]
Jesus concludes His Bread of Life discourse in John 6 by declaring that eternal life comes only through faith in Him as the true, heavenly bread—His flesh and blood symbolizing His sacrificial death for the world's sins. Though His words are spiritually profound and essential, they provoke offense and unbelief among many disciples, revealing that salvation is not achieved by human effort or desire, but by the Father's sovereign gift of faith through the Spirit. The passage underscores that true faith is personal, necessary, and rooted in Christ's substitutionary atonement, resulting in abiding union with Him and the promise of resurrection. In contrast to the temporary manna of the wilderness, Christ offers eternal sustenance through belief alone, and those who remain are marked by a deep, intimate knowledge of Him as the Holy One of God. The sermon calls believers to hear, believe, and truly know Christ's words, trusting in His promises as the foundation for perseverance and eternal hope.
Send us a textGrace without obedience sounds comforting, but it can hollow out your faith. We explore the hard sayings of Jesus and the invitation to walk a narrow road that is both freeing and demanding. From the burning bush to the Gospel of John, we trace one continuous story: the same Lord who holds children on His lap also calls holy ground holy, commands allegiance, and shines light that no darkness can overcome. We share why the Old and New Testaments belong together, and how cutting off the Old Testament weakens discipleship. You'll hear how Colossians 1 and John 1 anchor a big view of Christ—Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer—and why that vision matters when the headlines churn and social media rewards outrage. Algorithms don't aim to make us wise; Scripture does. So we talk about reclaiming attention, testing narratives, and letting the Word set our steps when noise and deception rise.Along the way, we address division inside the church, the dangers of treating politics as identity, and the subtle ways contempt steals our witness. Carrying the cross isn't about repeating Christ's sacrifice; it's public loyalty to His way, a daily choice to be known with Him and for Him. That identity steadies us when rumors swirl, scandals trend, and counterfeit signs promise shortcuts. The call is simple and costly: receive mercy, obey with gratitude, stand on the whole counsel of God, and love one another with clean hands and brave hearts. If this resonates, share it with a friend who's weary of the feed and hungry for truth. In this second installment on the often-ignored topic of Christian headcovering, we move beyond the biblical mandate to examine how Church History consistently affirmed the practice and how the feminist movement worked strategically to dismantle it.For nearly two millennia, headcovering was universally practiced by faithful women across Christian denominations nearly without exception. But by the mid-20th century, it had all but vanished from the Western church. What changed? Was it new theological insight or cultural compromise?Join us as we explore how second-wave feminism targeted headcovering as a threat to its ideological goals, how pastors yielded to cultural pressure, and why recovering this symbol is about far more than fabric. This is not about going backward. It's about returning to the timeless beauty of God's design for worship, authority, and glory.CLICK HERE to read the corresponding article to this episode and to get additional recommended reading and listening to explore this topic further.Recommended Resources for Further Study:Michael Barrett's Head Covering for Public WorshipMichael Barrett's Sermon Series on HeadcoveringBnonn Tennant on Head CoveringsHistory of Quotes on Headcovering Since the ReformationHead Covering: A Forgotten Christian Practice for Modern Times by Jeremy GardinerR.C. We begin our series on Ecclesiastes with an overview. Pastor Mollenkopf notes that living our lives without reference to God brings futility, but joyfully embracing God's gifts and fearing Him brings fullness of life. If we ignore the difficulties of this life and the peculiarities of the book of Ecclesiastes itself, we miss the goodness and grace of the God who walks beside his children during the joys and darknesses we all face.
