In this episode, Shri Krishna takes on the role of a messenger, or Rajdoot, for the Pandavas. With the looming threat of war between the Kauravas and the Pandavas, Krishna travels to Hastinapur to offer one last chance at peace. He meets the Kaurava elders, Bhishma and Dronacharya, and King Dhritarashtra, to persuade them to avoid the devastating war. Krishna urges Duryodhana to return the rightful share of the kingdom to the Pandavas, emphasizing the futility of conflict and destruction. However, Duryodhana, blinded by ego and greed, rejects Krishna's counsel, leading to heightened tensions. This episode beautifully captures Krishna's diplomatic efforts, his wisdom, and his foresight, while foreshadowing the inevitable Kurukshetra war.

What was the promise that King Shantanu made to Ganga? And why did Shantanu become infatuated with Satyavati? To know more, listen to "Audio Pitara." Death of Raja Pandu & return of 5 Pandavs to Hastinapur. #initiativesasmita #mahabharat
SYNOPSIS:The Mahābhārata, originally known as the Jaya Samhita and later as the Bharata Samhita, has been engulfed in a plethora of debates with respect to its nature, age, authorship, and, historicity. The text can be classified as a Smriti, an Itihasa as well as Kavya, consisting of 18 Parvas and over 100,000 verses at present. The puissant stories centered around the internecine battle of Kurukshetra have enraptured the masses over the centuries and have instigated a course of active interpretation and deliberation, especially about the historical occurrence of these events. The text talks about magical occurrences, legendary creatures, and supernatural weapons, which may lead one to believe that it can be best categorized as mythology. However, the 2013 Chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), Prof. Y.S. Rao argued that the Mahābhārata is not a work of mythology, rather it holds historical credibility. In the past few decades, with technological advancement, several archaeological excavations have been undertaken at places mentioned in the Mahābhārata – Hastinapur, Mathura, Kurukshetra, Bairat; that suggests that these places were inhabited by Painted Grey Ware (PGW) cultures around this time; with marine archaeological explorations also leading to the discovery of the submerged city of Dwarka. However, archaeology cannot prove or disprove the veracity of epic events as it is best utilized foruncovering the general patterns of material culture rather than corroborating textual details of literary works. Some historians have argued that history and mythology need not be diametrically opposed to each other, because history can be understood as a broad term that relates to past events- not only as a result of discovery and interpretation but also as a collection of memory and presentation; on the other hand, mythology revolves around symbolic narratives and metaphors of human experiences. Therefore, both disciplines share similar traits where the narration of human endeavours becomes an area of convergence. This leads us to question the strict dichotomy between mythology and history that came to the forefront in the era of ‘positivism' in 19 th century Europe, and subsequently around the world, which emphasized an a posteriori approach driven by objectivity, facts, and evidence. Here, one has to understand that texts like the Mahābhārata, whose compilation spans from the 3 rd century BCE to the 3 rd century CE, are bound to be affected by changing societal & culturalcircumstances, along with geographical, and religious settings. For instance, the tribal version of the text by the Bhils does not mention the vastra haran (disrobing) of Draupadi. Moreover, given the extensive timespan, what is indeed the original form of the text becomes extremely hard to determine. Therefore, we at Argumentative Indians call for a dispassionate understanding and interpretation of this recurring debate over the historicity of the Mahābhārata.DISCLAIMER:We invite thought leaders from across the ideological spectrum. Through this story we will explore the love story between a king and a goddess, the curses of the past generation stretching into the next, a vow of chastity and self restraint so strong that it gives our main character his name, and much more. All stories for this episode will be based on research done over a period of years from various written and folk sources. Minor variations exist between texts and no one author has sole accepted canonship of these religious scripts- I'm simply using the text I am most familiar with. Empowering Gita Reflections: A podcast to guide modern lifestyle with the wisdom of Gita
The first chapter of Bhagwad Gita, the song of God, is about the setting of the battlefield - the Kaurav and Pandav assembling with all their vast armies composed of warriors from all across Indian Subcontinent and its neighborhood, ready and eager to massacre the other side. But at the climactic moment, the prime warrior, the ultimate weapon of the Pandav Amry, Arjun, suddenly loses his will to fight in the battle. All of a sudden, he realizes that the people he has to cut through to the throne of Hastinapur, are his own kin and friends and relatives. At this moment he is, quite justifiably, in a fix, about what his real duty is. And that's when the Lord of the universes, Shree Krishna, knower of 'Dharma' the law of righteousness, the math of universe, starts to sing wisdom! This Podcast describes the first few verses of the first chapter of Bhagwad Gita, when the context of it is being set.

Mahabharata is one of India's most popular Hindu epics. The Kurukshetra war is depicted in this story as a historical battle between two groups of cousins and was probably the most horrific battle ever fought. Sage Vyasa is known for writing this epic. The Pandavas- Yudhishthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sahadev, the five brothers, and the Kauravas are the main characters in the Mahabharata. It's almost like a family feud over land and property. Pandu, the king of Hastinapur, chose to live in the forest with his two wives, Kunti and Madri, and his 5 sons. Therefore he gave up his throne to his brother Dhritrashtra, who was blind, and went to live in the forest. In the kingdom of Hastinapur, Dhritrashtra's wife, Gandhari, gave birth to a hundred sons. Duryodhana was the eldest of them. Bhisma asked Dhronacharya to teach the skills of warfare to both Kauravas and Pandavas when Pandavas returned to Hastinapur after the death of Pandu and Madri. Kauravas were very jealous of Pandavas and always plotted to harm them. After one such failed attempt, Pandavas went into exile and reached the Kingdom of Panchala. The king of Panchala had a beautiful daughter named Draupadi, and an archery competition was in works to choose the rightful husband for her. Arjuna, who was an unrivalled archer, entered the competition and won. When they all came back to Hastinapur, Dhritarashtra gave the Pandavas a small piece of barren land, far away from Hastinapur. The Pandavas built a beautiful city there named Indraprastha on it. Soon again, Duryodhana along with his evil uncle Shakuni started plotting and invited Yudisthira to play a dice game with the Kauravas. Yudhishthira not only lost his kingdom and wealth in this game but also his brothers and wife. After the game when Draupadi was humiliated in the open palace, Dhritrashtra out of fear and consequences returned everything to the Pandavas. But the game did not stop there. In the next round when the Pandavas lost again, they had to go on an exile for 12 years and had to spend another year in disguise.
