Shri Krishna and His Yogamaya In 4.6 Shri Krishna says that “Although I am unborn, the Lord of all living entities, and have an imperishable nature, yet I appear in this world by virtue of Yogmaya, my divine power”. There are many people who believe that God is ‘only' formless. So they doubt Krishna saying “He was born like a human and died like a human, so how can He be God”. Here Krishna is explaining his Leela. That He appears in this world and plays the role of a human for the sake of humankind.  There are three parts to this verse: “Although I am unborn, imperishable, and the Lord of all beings": Here, Krishna is referring to his divine nature. As a form of the Supreme Being, he is eternal (unborn and imperishable) and the ultimate controller of all beings. "controlling My own material nature": This refers to Krishna's supremacy over the material world and its nature. He is not subject to the laws of the material world but rather controls and governs them. "I come into being by My own magic potency": Here, Krishna is explaining the concept of his divine descents or "avataras." He descends into the material world by his own will and divine power, not by the laws of karma that govern the births and deaths of ordinary living entities. In essence, this verse underscores Krishna's divine and supreme nature. He is not bound by the material world and its laws, and his incarnations in the physical world are acts of his own divine will and potency, not due to karmic laws. This verse is part of a larger discourse where Krishna is explaining his divine nature and role in the cosmos to Arjuna. Krishna lived and performed all prescribed duties. He led by example and inspired humanity to follow the right path. That was one of the purposes of his incarnation as a human being.  When people insist that God is only formless, it is like saying that the sun is only light. However in reality, the sun is both, the source of light as well as the light itself. Just like that, God can be both formless as well as having various forms. Krishna says that he doesn't have to be born in human form however he chooses to do so. Why does he choose to do so? Krishna will explain that in the next two verses. Before that, we should understand a subtle aspect, where Krishna says that he will ‘manifest' or ‘appear'. Not ‘born'. As per the scriptures, Krishna was not technically born out of Devaki's womb although he made it look like that based on his powers. It is said that before being born, he manifested himself in the form of Vishnu in front of Devaki and Vasudev.  And then Krishna speaks these two very prominent and popular verses: यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत | अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम् || 4.7|| परित्राणाय साधूनां विनाशाय च दुष्कृताम् | धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय सम्भवामि युगे युगे || 4.8|| Whenever there is a decline in dharma and an increase in adharma, O Arjuna, at that time I manifest myself on earth.  And what would be his goal for manifesting on earth? He says he will do three things: To protect the sadhus and the righteous He will destroy/ annihilate the wicked, and He will reestablish the principles of dharma  And Krishna says that he will continue doing this in every yuga as per the need. What a wonderful assurance! Krishna is saying that he will personally manifest on earth during such times. Some people have questioned in the past, why does Krishna have to descend Himself on earth for this? Why can't he just send some of his assistants to do the job? There is a story of Akbar, the mughal ruler. It is said that he was a unique ruler who was wise and kind and not cruel like other mughal rulers. Akbar used to read the Bhagavad Gita and he even got it translated into Persian language. Shri Krishna's warning and assuranceShri Krishna's love for His devotees

The unique contexts and subversions these compositions reveal are a treat for those who yearn to get to know Guru Gobind Singh Sahib and those who yearn to celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Sahib. In the sixth composition of the “Sabad Hajare Patisahi 10” (popularly Shabad Hazare Patshahi 10) series, Guru Gobind Singh Sahib locates the Creator as the Death; there is no god or messenger of death to fear. Guru Sahib disrupts prevailing thought by declaring that there is only One Creator whose identity includes death for only the 1 creates. In this eighth podcast, Harinder Singh and Jasleen Kaur explore Guru Gobind Singh Sahib's utterances on the Creator as Death, and the Guru's guidance of considering IkOankar as the only Force of both coming and going, creation and death. They contextualize this composition in the larger popular understanding of death as separate from the One, and smaller deities and mythological figures as infallible creators and destroyers. Since Vasudev spent many years inside Kansa's prison after his marriage with Devaki, Paundrak grew up in Kashi and inherited the throne.  Paundrak was an ally of Shrikrishna's sworn enemy Jarasandh. He would call himself the real Shrikrishna and imitate him in every way, including calling himself Vasudev.  Shrikrishna tried his best to talk him out of this charade but he did not listen. Eventually Shrikrishna killed him in battle and created a circle of fire around his kingdom trapping and killing the priests who would worship Paundrak as Shrikrishna.  Learn more about your ad choices. Most of us are under the impression that Lord Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasudeva. Vivid descriptions are known to us about the Birth of Lord Krishna in the prison of Kamsa in the dead of the night on Ahstami Thithi,Rohini Nakshtra to an extent that even Krishna's date of Birth has been determined. Lord Vishnu is said to be Brahma Swarupam and is Beyond Birth ,Death and is Indescribable(Avyaktha). While going through the Bhagavad Gita Chapter 49 (read the Gita daily, a Chapter a Day first thing in the morning for the past 10 years-every day I get new insights  and new doubts!) When I read the 7th Sloka where Krishna uses the word ‘srujaami' meaning ‘reveal' while describing how he is born time and again, I had this doubt. How come, then, He was said to be born of Devaki? The use of the word ‘srujaami' means revealing and not born  and I know the Bhagavad Gita is very careful in choosing words. So I started checking Srimad  Bhagavatham which describes the birth of Lord Krishna in detail. To my surprise I found that Lord Krishna was not born to Devaki as mortals would from the Womb for He is Ayonijan(One who does not stay in the Womb) This is what the Bhagavatham says of Lord Krishna's Birth, ” Thereafter, at the auspicious time for the appearance of the Lord, the entire universe was surcharged with all the qualities of goodness, beauty and peace. The constellation Rohiṇī appeared, as did stars like Aśvinī. The sun, the moon and the other stars and planets were very peaceful. All directions appeared extremely pleasing, and the beautiful stars twinkled in the cloudless sky. Decorated with towns, villages, mines and pasturing grounds, the earth seemed all-auspicious. The rivers flowed with clear water, and the lakes and vast reservoirs, full of lilies and lotuses, were extraordinarily beautiful. In the trees and green plants, full of flowers and leaves, pleasing to the eyes, birds like cuckoos and swarms of bees began chanting with sweet voices for the sake of the demigods. A pure breeze began to blow, pleasing the sense of touch and bearing the aroma of flowers, and when the brāhmaṇas engaging in ritualistic ceremonies ignited their fires according to Vedic principles, the fires burned steadily, undisturbed by the breeze. Thus when the birthless Lord Viṣṇu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, was about to appear, the saints and brāhmaṇas, who had always been disturbed by demons like Kaḿsa and his men, felt peace within the core of their hearts, and kettledrums simultaneously vibrated from the upper planetary system.Vasudeva then saw the newborn child, who had very wonderful lotuslike eyes and who bore in His four hands the four weapons śańkha, cakra, gadā andpadma. On His chest was the mark of Śrīvatsa and on His neck the brilliant Kaustubha gem. Dressed in yellow, His body blackish like a dense cloud, His scattered hair fully grown, and His helmet and earrings sparkling uncommonly with the valuable gem Vaidūrya, the child, decorated with a brilliant belt, armlets, bangles and other ornaments, appeared very wonderful. O Madhusūdana, because of Your appearance, I am becoming more and more anxious in fear of Kaḿsa. Therefore, please arrange for that sinful Kaḿsa to be unable to understand that You have taken birth from my womb. SB 10.3.40: After you received that benediction and I disappeared, you engaged yourselves in sex to have a son like Me, and I fulfilled your desire. SB 10.3.41: Since I found no one else as highly elevated as you in simplicity and other qualities of good character, I appeared in this world as Pṛśnigarbha, or one who is celebrated as having taken birth from Pṛśni. SB 10.3.42: In the next millennium, I again appeared from the two of you, who appeared as My mother, Aditi, and My father, Kaśyapa. Arjuna is an accepted devotee of the Lord, so how could he not believe Krsna's words? The fact is that Arjuna is not inquiring for himself but for those who do not believe in the Supreme Personality of Godhead or for the demons who do not like the idea that Krsna should be accepted as the Supreme Personality of Godhead; for them only Arjuna inquires on this point, as if he were himself not aware of the Personality of Godhead, or Krsna. As it will be evident from the Tenth Chapter, Arjuna knew perfectly well that Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the fountainhead of everything and the last word in Transcendence. Of course, Krsna also appeared as the son of Devaki on this earth. How Krsna remained the same Supreme Personality of Godhead, the eternal, original person, is very difficult for an ordinary man to understand. Therefore, to clarify this point, Arjuna put this question before Krsna so that He Himself could speak authoritatively. That Krsna is the supreme authority is accepted by the whole world, not only at present, but from time immemorial, and the demons alone reject Him. Anyway, since Krsna is the authority accepted by all, Arjuna put this question before Him in order that Krsna would describe Himself without being depicted by the demons who always try to distort Him in a way understandable to the demons and their followers. It is necessary that everyone, for his own interest, know the science of Krsna. Therefore, when Krsna Himself speaks about Himself, it is auspicious for all the worlds. To the demons, such explanations by Krsna Himself may appear to be strange because the demons always study Krsna from their own standpoint, but those who are devotees heartily welcome the statements of Krsna when they are spoken by Krsna Himself. The devotees will always worship such authoritative statements of Krsna because they are always eager to know more and more about Him. The atheists, who consider Krsna an ordinary man, may in this way come to know that Krsna is superhuman, that He is sac-cid-ananda-vigraha—the eternal form of bliss and knowledge—that He is transcendental, and that He is above the domination of the modes of material nature and above the influence of time and space. A devotee of Krsna's, like Arjuna, is undoubtedly above any misunderstanding of the transcendental position of Krsna. Arjuna's putting this question before the Lord is simply an attempt by the devotee to defy the atheistic attitude of persons who consider Krsna to be an ordinary human being subject to the modes of material nature.

Thyagaraja swamigal, in this krithi, appeared to be telling the greatness of the lord in a lucid manner most enthusiastically. The style adopted in this krithi is very sweet in comparison to the other four kirthanas. Oh Lord you are an opportunist, You deceived your parents Devaki , Vasudeva as also the gopikas who surrendered to you, You mischievously smile when Yashoda innocently folded you with love at the thought that she too would be disappointed on being separated from him, You falsified the aforesaid words of Sruti and Smruti. You have somehow not come to me despite the fact that I was overjoyed in keeping your memory always in my heart, You preached patience, tolerance in the face of adversity freedom from anger, satsang etc; and coolly accepted my pujas, You give bhakti and peace, Despite all this you have steadfastly not come closer to me to the end, Thus this kirthana, a gem amongst the five kirthanas which bring out the thought and reminiscences of Shri Thayagaraja; is a great gift to the singer and bhaktas

In contrast with the conchshell blown by Bhismadeva, the conchshells in the hands of Krsna and Arjuna are described as transcendental. The sounding of the transcendental conchshells indicated that there was no hope of victory for the other side because Krsna was on the side of the Pandavas. Jayas tu pandu-putranam yesam pakse janardanah. Victory is always with persons like the sons of Pandu because Lord Krsna is associated with them. And whenever and wherever the Lord is present, the goddess of fortune is also there because the goddess of fortune never lives alone without her husband. Therefore, victory and fortune were awaiting Arjuna, as indicated by the transcendental sound produced by the conchshell of Visnu, or Lord Krsna. Besides that, the chariot on which both the friends were seated was donated by Agni (the fire-god) to Arjuna, and this indicated that this chariot was capable of conquering all sides, wherever it was drawn over the three worlds. Lord Krsna is referred to as Hrsikesa in this verse because He is the owner of all senses. The living entities are part and parcel of Him, and, therefore, the senses of the living entities are also part and parcel of His senses. The impersonalists cannot account for the senses of the living entities, and therefore they are always anxious to describe all living entities as sense-less, or impersonal. The Lord, situated in the hearts of all living entities, directs their senses. But, He directs in terms of the surrender of the living entity, and in the case of a pure devotee He directly controls the senses. Here on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra the Lord directly controls the transcendental senses of Arjuna, and thus His particular name of Hrsikesa. The Lord has different names according to His different activities. For example, His name is Madhusudana because He killed the demon of the name Madhu; His name is Govinda because He gives pleasure to the cows and to the senses; His name is Vasudeva because He appeared as the son of Vasudeva; His name is Devaki-nandana because He accepted Devaki as His mother; His name is Yasoda-nandana because He awarded His childhood pastimes to Yasoda at Vrndavana; His name is Partha-sarathi because He worked as charioteer of His friend Arjuna. Similarly, His name is Hrsikesa because He gave direction to Arjuna on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra. Arjuna is referred to as Dhananjaya in this verse because he helped his elder brother in fetching wealth when it was required by the King to make expenditures for different sacrifices. Similarly, Bhima is known as Vrkodara because he could eat as voraciously as he could perform Herculean tasks, such as killing the demon Hidimba. So, the particular types of conchshell blown by the different personalities on the side of the Pandavas, beginning with the Lord's, were all very encouraging to the fighting soldiers. On the other side there were no such credits, nor the presence of Lord Krsna, the supreme director, nor that of the goddess of fortune. So, they were predestined to lose the battle—and that was the message announced by the sounds of the conchshells. Sanjaya informed King Dhrtarastra very tactfully that his unwise policy of deceiving the sons of Pandu and endeavoring to enthrone his own sons on the seat of the kingdom was not very laudable. The signs already clearly indicated that the whole Kuru dynasty would be killed in that great battle. Beginning with the grandsire, Bhisma, down to the grandsons like Abhimanyu and others—including kings from many states of the world—all were present there, and all were doomed. The whole catastrophe was due to King Dhrtarastra, because he encouraged the policy followed by his sons.
