What makes us commit sinful acts? In 3.36, Arjuna asks Krishna “Why is a person impelled to commit sinful acts, even unwillingly, as if by force, O descendent of Vrishni (Krishna)?” The Vrishnis were the ancestors of Yadu (whose descendants were called Yadavas). It is a sad story how, after Gandhari's curse, the Yadavas forgot their duties, engaged in sinful activities and destroyed themselves. What Arjuna is asking is a very insightful question. Each one of us has a good voice inside us. It is what we call the conscience. Whenever we are about to commit a sinful activity, our conscience always tells us not to do it. However, we still go ahead and do it. There seems to be a constant conflict between the soul's divine nature and the material body's lower nature. It is what is also termed as Shreya (what is good) vs Preya (what is pleasant). So Arjuna is asking what causes people to commit sinful activities as if by force? Where they are not able to control themselves in spite of a good conscience warning them and telling them not to do it? To this, the supreme Lord says: It is lust alone, which is born of contact with the mode of passion, and later transformed into anger. Know this as the sinful, all-devouring enemy in the world. Thinking about sensory objects -> Leads to attachment. Attachment -> Leads to lust. Lust -> Always leads to anger. From anger, delusion arises which in turn leads to damage of memory. A damaged memory impacts intelligence. When intelligence is lost, it causes one to fall down (to lower planes). The destructive power of lustLord Krishna's Formula:

Situated in Kollum District Kerala, Peruviruthy Malanada Temple is probably the only temple dedicated to Kaurava Prince Duryodhana. In this temple Kaurava prince is being worshipped for many generations. There are many other temples in the vicinity dedicated to Gandhari, Dushala, Karna etc. There is no idol in this temple, instead there is an empty platform that is worshipped as Duryodhan's throne. It is believed that during the incognito period of Pandava's exile Duryodhana along traveled all over the world trying to find them. During one such expedition he landed in this village. He was tired and thirsty, and was offered a drink by an elderly woman. Pleased with this Duryodhan rewarded the village with wealth and one hundred acre land. Even today the tax generated from that land is called Duryodhanan, which means Duryodhan's wealth. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Dhritarshtra had one son from Gandhari's maid, Yuyutsu. Yuyutsu was different from other Kaurava brothers and chose to be on the right side of Dharma all his life. He was the only son of Dhritarashtra to survive the great war. In the end when Parikshit was made the king of Hastinapur, Yuyutsu was appointed his guardian. Learn more about your ad choices. One of the sons of Dhritarashtra and Gandhari spoke against the wrongful acts of his brothers in the royal court of Hastinapur. This Kaurav brother was Vikarna. Vikarna knew his brother, Duryodhana was on the wrong path and tried to warn him; however when things escalated to a full blown war, he chose the side of his brothers knowing fully well that it was the wrong side. On the 14th day, when Arjuna had vowed to kill Jaydrath, Vikarna was given the task of stopping Bhima from helping Arjuna. Bhima tried to convince his cousin to switch sides, however Vikarna refused. In the end like all his other brothers he was also killed by Bhima, however unlike for other Kaurava, Bhima regretted killing him Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Bhurishrava was son of Somdatta and grandson of Bahlika. He played a key role in the killing of Abhimanyu. When Arjuna taunted him for his participation in the dishonorable act of killing Abhimanyu against the rules of engagement, he felt ashamed. He threw away his weapons and sat down on the battlefield. At this point Satyaki leapt forward and beheaded a weaponless Bhurishrava with his sword. When Kritavarma taunted Satyaki recalling this incident, this became the cause of infighting among Yadav warriors and caused the destruction of the entire Yadav clan as cursed by Gandhari. When Jayadratha was killed by the clever plan of Krishna, when that terrible incident happened, Duryodhana was pacing up and down in the night and he was thinking, “What is this? The clouds just came and then went! I am not a weather-man. This Krishna is just too much.” Gandhari, his mother was thinking, “I must protect my son. This is cheating. With Krishna on their side, Pandavas will get victory.” Gandhari thought, “I have my siddhi.” So she said, “My dear Duryodhana, come and see me in the night without any clothes. When you stand before my eyes, I will take off the blindfold and by the force of my siddhi over the years, I will make you so strong that no one can touch you.” So in the dead of night, (because one has to be very late to walk around with no clothes) Duryodhana decides to come out and he walks. Everything is quiet and he makes a turn and who does he see? He sees Krishna. Duryodhana is thinking, “Of all the people in the world, why should I see this personality?” Krishna saw him and starts smiling. Duryodhan became ruffled. He said, “why are you smiling?” Krishna said, “why you think I am smiling? Grown up man with no clothes walking in the dead of the night. Are you mental?” Duryodhana becomes embarrassed and he says, “No no. I am just going to see my mother.” Krishna says, “Your mother! You are going to see your mother with no clothes on? Where have you learned your etiquette? Some decency is required. At least wear some gumcha or something and go to see your mother. I know you had a bad day in the battlefield but that does not mean you have to become mental.” So what happens now? Duryodhana thinks, “Yes, it is very bad. I am very much embarrassed.” He tells himself and checks himself. “I am going to wear my gamcha now. Once Krishna goes, and I stand before my mother, I will take it off. Then everything will be alright.” So he goes before his mother. Gandhari says, “Are you ready son? Is everything okay as I told you?” He says “Yes.” She opens her eyes and sees him. She goes all the way down and she sees the gamcha. At the end of it, Duryodhana's thighs could not be strengthened because they were covered. Gandhari tells Duryodhana, “I gave you just a simple instruction to take off your clothes and stand.” He said, “I met Krishna.” Gandhari thought, “why of all people must my son meet Krishna? In the night, the Pandavas were very happy and they must have all gone to sleep. Why is this Krishna roaming around?” She asks, “What did Krishna tell you?” He said, “Krishna told me just wear a gamcha and it is not right to walk around without any clothes. Mother, I agreed to Him and I told myself I will remember at the right point, this instruction that I should remove my clothes.” But Gandhari realized with an air of resignation that no matter what she planned for her son, the truth is Krishna in a very simple and cheeky way was teaching her something that, “Gandhari, whatever plans you have for your son, is not within My line of vision. It is not going to help. You are only going to be disturbed.” But till the end of the war, Gandhari could not accept this. Even though Gandhari was a very virtuous lady.

GANDHARI in ammamma stories --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ammammastories/message
Mahabharata is one of India's most popular Hindu epics. The Kurukshetra war is depicted in this story as a historical battle between two groups of cousins and was probably the most horrific battle ever fought. Sage Vyasa is known for writing this epic. The Pandavas- Yudhishthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sahadev, the five brothers, and the Kauravas are the main characters in the Mahabharata. It's almost like a family feud over land and property. Pandu, the king of Hastinapur, chose to live in the forest with his two wives, Kunti and Madri, and his 5 sons. Therefore he gave up his throne to his brother Dhritrashtra, who was blind, and went to live in the forest. In the kingdom of Hastinapur, Dhritrashtra's wife, Gandhari, gave birth to a hundred sons. Duryodhana was the eldest of them. Bhisma asked Dhronacharya to teach the skills of warfare to both Kauravas and Pandavas when Pandavas returned to Hastinapur after the death of Pandu and Madri. Kauravas were very jealous of Pandavas and always plotted to harm them. After one such failed attempt, Pandavas went into exile and reached the Kingdom of Panchala. The king of Panchala had a beautiful daughter named Draupadi, and an archery competition was in works to choose the rightful husband for her. Arjuna, who was an unrivalled archer, entered the competition and won. When they all came back to Hastinapur, Dhritarashtra gave the Pandavas a small piece of barren land, far away from Hastinapur. The Pandavas built a beautiful city there named Indraprastha on it. Soon again, Duryodhana along with his evil uncle Shakuni started plotting and invited Yudisthira to play a dice game with the Kauravas. Yudhishthira not only lost his kingdom and wealth in this game but also his brothers and wife. After the game when Draupadi was humiliated in the open palace, Dhritrashtra out of fear and consequences returned everything to the Pandavas. But the game did not stop there. In the next round when the Pandavas lost again, they had to go on an exile for 12 years and had to spend another year in disguise. It has been divided into 3 parts - The Story - The concept - The points to ponder ( Lets revisit the story in light of the concepts) Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapurana Synopsis of the Sixth Session Bhagavata Pratham Skanda (Book One) Chapter 9 and 15 ————————————— A Grand Era comes to an end.. Story: Shri Krishna takes Yudhishthira to Bhisma, to seek enlightenment and uplift his impending gloom. The sages from the 14 Lokas decent to listen to the knowledge that Bhisma was going to impart. With affection, he mentions that the pandavas had suffered injustice, and attributes all to the ‘Time Spirit' and the will of providence. Later, when the time for his soul to depart from he body comes, he fixes his attention on the form of Krishna, which had lifted the Wheel and rushed towards Bhisma to attack him. Knowing him to be the Divine one, he drops his body. Yudhisthira's infatuation was driven away, but the light of wisdom shed by Bhisma. With the permission of Krishna and Dhrtarastra, Yudhisthira ruled over the kingdom with righteousness. Mother earth was freed of her burden and hence, the nature responded favourably. Living being had no worries of physical aliments or affliction of any kind. People of Hastinapura, through their eyes, itched him in the depth of their hearts. Restoring Dharma and Bliss, amidst the songs of glory for him and the blessed ‘Dwaraka waasis', Krishna departed for Dwarka. He journeyed though various cities, and people basked in the bliss of his sight. When he reached the outskirts of Dwaraka, he blew his Panchjanya Counch, to signal his return. Everyone left what there were doing and rushed to greet him, and he in turn greeted all of them as they so desired. His family, his 16000 odd wives, and children were overwhelmed to see him. Everyone had krishna to themselves. Yudhisthira performed a lot of Yagnas, his kingdom covered almost the entire earth and his glory reached even the heavens. Then came the joyous time of the birth of the only descendent of the Pandavas. At the most auspicious hour, Pariksit was born. At the right moment, enormous ‘Dana' was made to everyone. The Brahmanas predicted his future, and his virtues. Yudhisthira performed 3 more Yagnas, to which Krishna was also invited. After spending some time with the Pandavas, he, along with Arjun returned to Dwaraka. After completing his piligrimage, Vidhura, pandava's uncle, returned to Hastinapura. Everyone was over joyed to see him, and he was satisfied to see the blossoming of their kingdom. When the time was right he guided Dhrtarastra toward his ultimate goal in life, ‘Prabhu Prapti' and Gandhari followed. One day, all three silently left the kingdom, and journeyed towards the north. Narada, consoled the lamenting Yudhisthira. Dhrtarastra left his body, Gandhari followed and Vidhura with a mixed feeling of Joy and Grief, went again on pilgrimages of sacred places. King Yudhisthira grew apprehensive at the sight of even omens and worried why Arjun had not returned, as it had been several months. While he was sharing his anxiety with the other brothers, Arjun returned, broken and beaten. He looked as if someone had robed his soul of all the lustre. On being, questioned, he finally responded and conveyed that, Krishna dropped the Yadava body and the yadava race has been exterminated. He felt as if Krishna has robbed him of all his velour. But, later, realised that it was never him, but the Lord who was acting threw him. Kunti, dropped her mortal body and merged with her Lord Shri Krisna. That very moment the age of Kali set in. Yudhisthira crowned Pariksit at Hastinapura and Vajra at Mathura. He, his brothers and Draupadi were completely set at rest, and resolved to ascend to the heavens. They all descended to abode of Krishna. Vidhura also fixed his mind on Krishna and casted of his body. Thus, came to an end the glorious age...

Episode 93 - The white horse returns home, only to be tied to a post, killed, & cut up into little pieces. The priests do their best to follow the old rules, but there's no way Draupadi is going to pretend to copulate with a dead horse!Jump ahead 15 years and Dhrtarastra finally decides to take leave of worldly cares, and he, Gandhari, & Kunti leave for a forest ashram. One year after that, the Pandavas and many citizens pay a visit to the old folks, where Vyasa allows them all to re-unite with their fallen relatives and friends. While some of the early books went on endlessly, the last few books of the epic are quite short, and we are going through about one book an episode at this point-- the story is nearly over!
