The history of the Palestine War does not only concern military history. It also involves social, humanitarian and religious history, as in the case of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jerusalem. A Liminal Church: Refugees, Conversions and the Latin Diocese of Jerusalem, 1946–1956 (Brill, 2020) offers a complex narrative of the Latin patriarchal diocese, commonly portrayed as monolithically aligned with anti-Zionist and anti-Muslim positions during the “long” year of 1948. Making use of largely unpublished archives in the Middle East, Europe and the United States, including the recently released Pius XII papers, Maria Chiara Rioli depicts a church engaged in multiple and sometimes contradictory pastoral initiatives, amid harsh battles, relief missions for Palestinian refugees, theological reflections on Jewish converts to Catholicism, political relations with the Israeli and Jordanian authorities, and liturgical responses to a fluid and uncertain scenario. The pieces of this history include the Jerusalem grand mufti's appeal to Pius XII to support the Arab cause, the Catholic liturgies for peace and international mobilization during the Palestine War and Suez crisis, refugees petitioning the patriarch for aid, and Jewish converts establishing Christian kibbutzim. New archival collections and records reveal hidden aspects of the lives of women, children and other silenced actors, faith communities and religious institutions during and after 1948, connecting narratives that have been marginalized by a dominant historiography more focused on military campaigns or confessional conflicts. A Liminal Church weaves diocesan history with global history. In the momentous decade from 1946 to 1956, the study of the transnational Jerusalem Latin diocese, as split between Israel, Jordan, Egypt and Cyprus, with ties to diaspora and religious international networks and comprising clergy from all over the world, attests to the possibilities of contrapuntal narratives, reintroducing complexity to a deeply and painfully polarized debate, exposing false assumptions and situating changes and ruptures in a long-term perspective. A brilliant young Oxford don, H.A. Hodges, was an agnostic, and felt that it was not intellectually honest to profess a belief in God, since he was certain that nobody could really prove His existence.  But of course, he also acknowledged that the existence of God could not be disproven.  He just wasn't sure and decided to remain neutral.  One day, however, he strolled down Oxford's main thoroughfare and stopped before a store window.  His interest was captured by a painting, a rather simple one done by a Christian artist.  The subject:  Jesus washing the feet of the disciples.  Hodges, however, was gripped by the scene, and he said, "If God is like that then that God shall be my God!"  Conversions take place in strange ways, and that painting was part of the circumstances which resulted in his conversion to Christianity.

It's also a good idea to cruise around blogs dedicated to helping you increase conversions. It's not enough to opt for an "optimized" conversion strategy. You have to put your changes to the test in a live environment. Experimentation can help you discover new tactics or illuminate some false assumptions. It can also help you stay one step ahead of the competition. In your conversion rate optimization AB tests, you'll need to come up with a hypothesis. You'll design a test that puts that hypothesis to the test, keeping your "A" version the same and applying the desired change to your "B" version. Try to keep as many variables as you can consistent between the two. You'll want to keep a close eye on your conversion rates, which you can do by setting up goals within Google Analytics. Changes in competition, seasons, trends, demographics, and traffic sources can all have an effect on conversion rates. Watch for these fluctuations and monitor your performance over time. As you bring in more traffic with tactics like SEO, social media marketing, or even paid to advertise, conversion rate optimization will help you maximize the potential value of those visitors. Everything in marketing comes down to revenue, and conversions are the final gateway to getting that revenue. What is conversion rate optimization? It's the process of converting your inbound traffic into paying customers. Conversions aren't just about getting people to pay you money; they're about getting users to have meaningful interactions with your brand. SEO.co uses conversion optimization tactics just like you should, even on our home page. The greater the percentage of visitors who convert, the more valuable your traffic is going to become for your brand. You'll also need to consider ways to increase the volume and relevance of traffic headed to your site. Balancing conversions and traffic is key to maximizing your effectiveness. Now I want to explain the importance of using objective data to guide your conversion optimization efforts. Data is also important for proving the return on investment (ROI) of your efforts. Conversion optimization itself won't demand much money from you, but it's relatively inexpensive to pursue. Where conversions really count is in how much money they bring in for your overall marketing campaign. Only through objective analysis and measurement will you be able to prove the ROI of your campaigns. Your conversion rate can almost always be higher, but you have to keep striving for improvement. If you want to improve your conversion rates, you'll need to do a lot of research. This guide will explain the importance of experimentation, testing, measurement, and analysis in your campaign. When considering a core conversion, Tami Webb, who is VP/sales for CUES Supplier member United Solutions Company, Tallahassee, Florida, suggests first asking: Why do we want to change? What's the objective? What's driving all this work? Webb is our guest for this episode of the CUES Podcast. She has helped about 30 credit unions convert to a hosted core or remote data processing system. At USC, Webb works with clients to convert and use XP2 or DataSafe. She also has experience working with other Fiserv core solutions as well as Jack Henry's Symitar Episys and Ease solutions. No matter what core system you are converting to, the first step is building the right conversion team, she says, starting with the project lead who will serve as the liaison between the internal team and the vendor. In addition to the project lead, the core conversion team should include an IT lead and subject matter experts for each area of the credit union. Take care to select the right SMEs for this project, someone who can rally their coworkers to be excited about the change. “I call them like a cheerleader, or the go-getter person,” says Webb. They are frequently someone who “doesn't mind change and that wants to be in that leader role. [They] can help encourage the team and get them to be excited about what's going to be happening.” When deciding on the project lead, someone who knows the system intimately will be better able to guide the team and stay organized, says Webb, as long as they have the full confidence and support of the top leadership team. “I truly believe by building the right conversion team and being prepared and working closely with a new core provider, credit unions can't help but have a successful conversion,” she says.Links for this show:TranscriptUnited Solutions Company

We reflect on Saul, the Greek-speaking Jew from Tarsus who is also known as Paul, a Roman citizen from Asia minor. We talk about how his hybrid identities—both Jew and Roman—may motivate both his persecution of others and ultimately his embrace of difference within the Christian faith. We wrestle with this story as a conversion story, concluding that Paul is ultimately converted not from Judaism to Christianity but from the way of violence to the way of openness and embrace. And we reflect on the disciple Ananias, who overcomes his fear and suspicion of Saul in order to welcome him as a brother in Christ.
