The agonisising pain of loss is so hard to live with; it's common to armour up and to try to protect ourselves from ever experiencing that type of hurt ever again. This is the experience of Jenny Wynter after losing her mum at the tender age of five. Jenny spent the next 30 years bracing herself from more loss but, eventually, in the face of losing her other mum, her nan; she realised just how much she needed to let go of the armour and deeply connect, contemplating how decades of bracing came not with protection, but at a cost. In this heartwarming conversation comedian and mental health advocate Jenny Wynter shares openly about love and loss, about her own mental health journey to her diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder and how her experiences shaped her career in comedy from clown doctor to award winning performance artist.*There is talk of suicide in this episode; please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 if you need support of any kind.Jenny Wynter | WebsiteJenny Wynter | InstagramJenny Wynter | FacebookJenny Wynter | Funny MummiesTED Talk | Jenny Wynter | Forget the brace positionThanks for listening to this episode of “Well, hello anxiety with Dr Jodi Richardson.”How you can help: If you enjoyed this episode, or gained some useful insight from it, please share it with a friend or family member. Jenny Wynter is more than just a funny lady! Yes she's a comedian, but she's also a speaker and Women's Confidence & Creativity Mentor! In this heartfelt discussion, Jenny shares about her passions for comedy and supporting women. She doesn't just stand on stages and make people laugh (although she's very good at it!) she's also running a business and explains why artists and entertainers must operate as business owners. She is also the creator of Funny Mummies, a vibrant online community and producer of live stand-up comedy shows with a mission to improve mothers mental wellbeing through laughter. Raised by her grandmother after her mother passed away when she was five, award winning comedian Jenny Wynter soon discovered humour as a form of pain relief during her early childhood. In 2004, her life as mother of two kids under the age of two propelled her to leap into the world of stand-up comedy. A few months later Jenny was awarded the Brisbane, Lord Mayor’s Fellowship for New and Emerging Artists and found herself en route to USA for intensive comedy training - and an experience that would change the course of her life! Fifteen years later, Jenny Wynter is now a well-known Aussie comedian who recently completed the first live tour across Queensland post COVID-19! The FUNNY MUMMIES COMEDY GALA. The tour coincided with the release of Jenny’s new memoir, FUNNY MUMMY which shares a highly personal account of Jenny’s life as she navigates grief, divorce, unplanned parenthood and her bipolar 2 disorder. I caught up with Jenny to ask her about parenting, COVID and laughter as medicine. Take a listen. You can find FUNNY MUMMY and join Funny Mummy's on Facebook at Jenny's website:https://www.jennywynter.com/

Oof, this is a great episode, I reckon. The thumbnail just doesn't do it justice (it's really hard putting text on fountains, guys - REALLY HARD). Wynter's a smart cookie and we have a good, thorough chat about independent producing. Smeriously. I rectum-end it. Jenny Wynter is a Queensland-based singer/songwriter/performance maker and she's a gem. We not only manage to rattle off some pretty damn insightful political commentary, but we covered the joy of silliness, quite a lot more about lettuce than you would expect from cabaret artists, a labrador called Bublé, working smarter not harder, the future of performance vs online production, and how phenomenal Mad Max Fury Road is. So good... FANG IT!! Since the recording of this podcast (June 2016) I have had my own brush with not being able to walk for a while so it's been quite enlightening to listen to this again...wow. Who knows what the future will bring? P.S. If you do like the theme tune Fang It (To Tony's Place) you can purchase the album You're the Voice: Songs for the Ordinary by an Anthemaniac via my website - www.geraldinequinn.com. You seem to LOVE Brisbane comedian Jenny Wynter. Her comedy/cabaret/thing during the 2012 Adelaide Fringe did some amazing business, and our interview with her is consistently one of the most popular downloads. After checking out her blog (on www.comicmummy.com) we saw she had some news she might like to share. She did. Here it is. With added discussion of Ten's new reality show I Will Survive. More soon..
To kick off our interviews, LinkAdelaide spoke to Queensland artist, Jenny Wynter, about her Unexpected Variety Show, playing at the Light Hotel during the 2012 Adelaide Fringe Festival.
