It never bothered Je'Niece McCullough that she was Bernie Mac's daughter. What was difficult was dealing with people who reduced her to just being his daughter; that she had nothing to offer on her own. She shares with Jeanne how she spent years at war with herself, knowing she had gifts but never thinking they were enough; how she finally broke free and was able to honor her dad's legacy in her own way; what wisdom he ingrained in her that has helped sustain her; why flexibility is key to surviving whatever life hands you; and why she's not afraid to admit she sees a therapist. About Je'NieceJe'Niece is the only child of the late comedy legend Bernie Mac. She holds a B.S. in Psychology and an M.A. in Mental Health Counseling. After working several years in social services, she became her father's assistant and continued in that role until his death in 2008. She then took over as vice president of The Bernie Mac Foundation where she discovered her talent for public speaking. She has been a featured speaker for several events, including The Black Women's Expo, Heart & Soul Women of Excellence Awards, and Everest College's 2012 Commencement Program. While she no longer has an executive position within the foundation, Je'Niece continues to speak regularly on issues such as women's empowerment, Sarcoidosis awareness, and overcoming depression. She is also a published author and has been featured in several publications, including Today's Black Chicago Woman and Ebony magazine, as well as several collaboration books. Today we welcome Chrissy King to the pod. Chrissy is a writer and speaker who educates on lack of representation and racism in the fitness space. We will discuss diet culture, fitness trends, and how each of us can individually impact inclusivity at the gym.Chrissy's fitness journey began with the idea that she needed to “shrink” herself. Not just her body, but also her voice. Considering the unrealistic beauty standards that were being set as the precedent, she viewed the gym as a “fix” for her body. But once she lost the weight, happiness did not immediately follow. Instead, she shifted her mindset to ask, “How am I cultivating a life that feels joyous and not directly related to my body?”Chrissy released a book earlier this year about body liberation, which discusses the origin of body positivity and some of its misconceptions. Her work focuses on cultivating a diverse environment so that every person feels a sense of belonging. In today's episode (and in her book), she recognizes that none of us are free until all of us are free. The agonisising pain of loss is so hard to live with; it's common to armour up and to try to protect ourselves from ever experiencing that type of hurt ever again. This is the experience of Jenny Wynter after losing her mum at the tender age of five. Jenny spent the next 30 years bracing herself from more loss but, eventually, in the face of losing her other mum, her nan; she realised just how much she needed to let go of the armour and deeply connect, contemplating how decades of bracing came not with protection, but at a cost. In this heartwarming conversation comedian and mental health advocate Jenny Wynter shares openly about love and loss, about her own mental health journey to her diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder and how her experiences shaped her career in comedy from clown doctor to award winning performance artist.*There is talk of suicide in this episode; please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 if you need support of any kind.Jenny Wynter | WebsiteJenny Wynter | InstagramJenny Wynter | FacebookJenny Wynter | Funny MummiesTED Talk | Jenny Wynter | Forget the brace positionThanks for listening to this episode of “Well, hello anxiety with Dr Jodi Richardson.”How you can help: If you enjoyed this episode, or gained some useful insight from it, please share it with a friend or family member. As a serial entrepreneur, Jeff knows that if you want to get your team moving in the same direction, it takes a well-defined culture -- one that is put into practice daily. If your team doesn't know who you are, why you're there, where you're going, and what you stand for, you could be setting your company up for failure… In this Powerful at Work Radio podcast episode, Jeff also talks about the future of remote work and why leaders should be open minded when considering this as an option for their team. He urges leaders to be cautious about jumping to conclusions before researching the facts. Episode Outline: [02:14] Using history and data patterns to predict the future of work... [06:18] Does productivity really require presence in the office? [11:26] We're a social animal, we actually don't want to be locked away in our homes... [23:02] I will tell you that the biggest mistake I made was that we did not have a culture document. [28:18] Making the tough decision to let go of a high performing team member that doesn't embrace your culture or share your values...
