“How did conservative values that Republicans claimed to cherish, like small government, fiscal responsibility, and morality in public service, get completely eroded as an unshakable faith in Donald Trump grew to define the party?” That's the question driving New York Times national politics reporter Jeremy W. Peters's new book "Insurgency: How Republicans Lost Their Party and Got Everything They Ever Wanted.” In it, Peters outlines key points and events in recent history that fueled conservatives' “revolution from within,” like the “Ground Zero Mosque” controversy that bolstered Trump's image as a politician and an overlooked New Hampshire senate race in 2014 that would inform the playbook for GOP anti-immigration policy. He also interviewed former President Donald Trump for the book. We'll talk to Peters about “Insurgency” and about his reporting on former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's loss Tuesday in the defamation lawsuit she brought against the New York Times.

We begin this episode of The ReidOut with calls for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign reaching a crescendo, just hours after the state's attorney general released the disturbing findings of her five-month investigation. New York State Assembly Member Ron Kim joins us saying, "It is our legal and ethical duty to hold Gov. Cuomo accountable and if he does not step down then we must impeach." Then, Texas State Rep. Jasmine Crockett and Arizona State Rep. Lorenzo Sierra join The ReidOut on the ongoing assaults on voting rights taking place in their states and nationwide. Next, Dr. Catherine O'Neal--Chief Medical Officer, Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center, Baton Rouge, LA--explains to us that there is now no way to pull together against COVID-19 "except to vaccinate" and mask. And, journalists Jeremy W. Peters and Eugene Robinson give their analyses of the reportedly "acrimonious and bitter" special election in Ohio featuring candidates Nina Turner and Shontel Brown, an apparent battle between the progressive and establishment wings of the Democratic party. All this and more in this edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC.
