Last month, David and Christina attended the annual Secular Student Alliance conference, held this year in sweltering Little Rock, Arkansas. It's a gathering of college students from campuses around the country seeking community and inspiration. That opportunity is especially important at a time when, being reason-based, one feels increasingly outnumbered. They presented our “So You Want to Be An Organizer” workshop and conducted a series of run-and-gun interviews, collaring speakers like author Anne Nelson and "The Thinking Atheist" Seth Andrews, as well as student attendees. What you'll hear from the students may disturb you. The students they spoke with are struggling, trying to calibrate their own moral compasses in a world where morality seems to shift with the tide. What to make of a world where pious churchgoers worship the anti-Christ, where the "good guy" signs off on arms in support of genocide, and where so many of the lessons they learned in American history class turned out to be deeply biased at best, or just wrong? You may agree or disagree with what you'll hear, but attention must be paid. Because their vote – or non-vote – may be the difference between keeping our democracy and the end of the American experiment. Thanks for listening! The realization that religion could prevent its followers from getting life saving medical attention, was something that shocked Evan. And this was yet another reason that he felt drawn to “atheism,” a word that he first discovered in a dictionary years before. Later, Evan would attend California Lutheran College which inspired him to create a Secular Student Alliance. Through this, he was able to create a community for students like himself who did not feel connected to religion. Springboarding out of college, he eventually settled in Los Angeles where he continued creating community for Atheists through his role as the executive director of Atheists United. How to maximize wins and minimize losses, explained by four experts on game theory. Game theory is a useful tool for decision-making in situations where the outcome depends on multiple parties. It provides a systematic way to analyze the interdependence of individuals or organizations and their potential strategies. Not only does game theory help you identify the optimal strategy for achieving your goals, it can also help you avoid the sunk-cost fallacy — the tendency to persist in an endeavor because of the resources you've already invested. By taking into account the potential actions and responses of other players, game theory allows you to minimize your losses and make informed choices that lead to better outcomes. Whether you're negotiating a business deal or making investment decisions, game theory can be a valuable asset in helping you make smarter choices and achieve your objectives. We all have our blind spots and tend to want to believe what makes us feel good. This could include aliens, Bigfoot, bad medical advice and so on. We all need to keep those skeptical hats on to determining the truth.Caller #2 gives Truth Wanted a ring to have a discussion about food waste which everyone agreed was a problem, ethical hunting, and does this particular practice reduce suffering? Nuisance as always, is always a thing in these conversations.UFOs! Yes! Arlindo gives the full Truth Wanted experience by telling Kevin and Dan about their UFO encounter. Originally Aired Feb 21, 2022 Due to a Copyright issue, the Friedrich Nietzsche recording was clipped out. For Context, we used: "The Anti-Christ" Section 5: We should not deck out and embellish Christianity: it has waged a war to the death against this higher type of man, it has put all the deepest instincts of this type under its ban, it has developed its concept of evil, of the Evil One himself, out of these instincts—the strong man as the typical reprobate, the “outcast among men.” Christianity has taken the part of all the weak, the low, the botched; it has made an ideal out of antagonism to all the self-preservative instincts of sound life; it has corrupted even the faculties of those natures that are intellectually most vigorous, by representing the highest intellectual values as sinful, as misleading, as full of temptation. The most lamentable example: the corruption of Pascal, who believed that his intellect had been destroyed by original sin, whereas it was actually destroyed by Christianity!— Dr. Robert M. Price is a 2x PhD Scholar in New Testament and Theology. ) is an American New Testament scholar. His most notable stance is arguing in favor of the Christ myth theory — the claim that a historical Jesus did not exist. Price is the author of a number of books on biblical studies and the historicity of Jesus. https://www.robertmprice.mindvendor.com/ A former Baptist minister, Price was a fellow of the Jesus Project, a group of 150 individuals who studied the historicity of Jesus and the Gospels, the organizer of a Web community for those interested in the history of Christianity, and a member of the advisory board of the Secular Student Alliance. He is a religious skeptic, especially of orthodox Christian beliefs, occasionally describing himself as a Christian atheist. The Book by Dr. Francesca Stavrakopoulou: https://www.amazon.com/God-Anatomy-Fr... An astonishing and revelatory history that re-presents God as he was originally envisioned by ancient worshippers—with a distinctly male body, and with superhuman powers, earthly passions, and a penchant for the fantastic and monstrous. The scholarship of theology and religion teaches us that the God of the Bible was without a body, only revealing himself in the Old Testament in words mysteriously uttered through his prophets, and in the New Testament in the body of Christ. The portrayal of God as corporeal and masculine is seen as merely metaphorical, figurative, or poetic. But, in this revelatory study, Francesca Stavrakopoulou presents a vividly corporeal image of God: a human-shaped deity who walks and talks and weeps and laughs, who eats, sleeps, feels, and breathes, and who is undeniably male. #God #RobertMPrice #GnosticInformant --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/gnosticinformant/message

Jonathan Weyer is the author of the upcoming novel, The Faithful, due to be released in the Fall of 2010 by Brio Books. He has also written a book about his ministry to atheists tentatively titled, Confessions of a Pirate Chaplain. This book is currently being shopped by his agent, Wes Yoder. Jonathan was born in 1974 in Huntingburg, Indiana. He spent two weeks every summer with his grandma who allowed him to check out stories about Bigfoot, the Mothman and ghost stories from the library. This summer reading gave him a lifelong love for scary stories. Jonathan's family moved to St. Louis, Missouri when he was in the sixth grade. After college, he went to Covenant seminary and graduated with a Masters of Divinity with honors. He is currently ordained in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. While pastoring two churches, one in Illinois and one in Florida, he began to write a fantasy book based on American mythology. After a move to Columbus, Ohio, Jonathan felt a call to campus ministry at The Ohio State University. During the transition from church ministry to campus ministry, he decided to write his second novel, The Faithful, which combined his knowledge of the church and his love for scary stories. Jonathan is the founder of The Thomas Society, a ministry dedicated to answering questions from doubters, agnostics and atheists. Along with the atheists at Ohio State, he won a Multicultural Award from the university. Can we all get off this roller coaster?Yes, The Non-Prophets are talking about the worst Supreme Court decision next to all the next decisions they are likely going to make in the next few months. This time we decided to attack it a little differently. So come Sunday at 3:00 PM Central, sit back, relax, and we will all get through this together. For this episode we have a brand new conductor. Sorry Richard Gilliver, wish it was under better circumstances. He is joined by a newcomer, though you might remember him from Truth Wanted Live from UTSA's Secular Student Alliance, Zachary Shedd! Again sorry the timing sucks! Rounding out the rest of the stellar panel we have Genevieve from That GD Show, and Josh Entner from Bloody Good Film Podcast.First up we discuss what it was like for women before the Roe Vs. Wade decision. Was it a perfect utopia of super protected babies and everyone was happy? Was it a barren hellscape fill of fetuses and rusty hangers? We got this history for you so you can go into these discussions better armed. Are you one who gets your news and daily topics from the internet? I assume that if you are reading this right now that is at least sometimes a yes. We all know that privacy of a woman's body has gone away, but what people might not know is the dangers of even googling abortion topics. We look into some privacy and security tips to keep you safe and still fighting. So then what can we do? Well as a 501(c)(3) there are some limitations on what we can suggest. That doesn't mean we cannot look into what others are doing. There are people from all walks of life fighting for their rights, for your rights, for everyone's rights. From people marching on the streets to companies offering pay to those in states that made abortion illegal? This is something to keep an eye on!Finally this week, we figured we would change it up a little bit. To cleanse the pallet of all these sour tastes the week has brought us. We discuss a Looking Back of Churches v. Scholarships. Join us on a journey through time when Pope Pius X condemned the intellectual movement in the early 1900's. Who would have thought over 100 years later he would start winning? This will wrap it up for this week's episode of The Non-Prophets. Why are more and more young people leaving religion? Is religion the only way we can define our values? From what sources do nonreligious folks derive shared morals? We explore all these questions and much more, such as how the Secular Student Alliance is providing a point of connection for nonreligious students all over the country. We discuss secular and humanistic values, how SSA has been received on campuses, and of course we get into plenty of politics. Kevin Bolling is the Executive Director of the Secular Student Alliance, an educational nonprofit and the only national organization dedicated to atheist, humanist, and other non-theist students. Kevin has served as the executive director of SSA since 2017 and has over 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience. His career has included over 10 years of student association management and on-campus program development from Los Angeles to Boston as well as serving in leadership positions with the California Thoroughbred Horsemen's Foundation and the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles. https://secularstudents.org/

SHOW NOTESThis Friday the 13th Dan is on location at UTSA, with Secular Student Alliance and special guests! Not to worry folks, none of them are surnamed Voorhees.Zach Shedd speaks with Dan about creating secular communities, and our first caller asks the hosts how to approach conversations with a budding atheist. Dan recommends Street Epistemology, and agrees with Zach's point that setting boundaries is important. We hit up our audience for some Q&A. Some strange Johnny guy asks Dan if he prefers the live show format to the remote, and Jamal asks what was most difficult about Dan's deconversion process. Our next guest is John Dye, he studies volcanoes, and erupts into the background of the SSA and why he joined. Needs more magma. An audience member suspects that her child may be faking faith to further their romantic pursuits. Neither Dan nor John recommend it, and John is very clear that he will not be dating any crystal cuties. Finally, Madison shares a story about his first date experience with a spiritualist. After a quick chat with John about his deconversion, Paul in the audience asks how to get involved with the secular movement. A former Muslim asks how to find community after leaving religion, and finally Donovan asks how the SSA approaches activism. We take a call from Michael, who asks our hosts for their perspective on the recent odious activities of the Supreme Court. Surprising zero people across the globe, our hosts are champions of women's bodily autonomy. This is why activism is so important!Back to our audience, Zoe encourages locals to show up for the Bans off our Bodies protest, and Jamal asks how to promote positive atheism. Cody Valdez joins us on stage, and shares his experiences as a newcomer to the atheist movement. Next we'll talk to Larry, who has a grandson starting at U of T, and asks Cody how he can get involved! The power of SSA grows!Shifting back to our audience emcee, Johnny talks to another SSA member who expresses his gratitude for the exposure today. We're happy to do it! Joel asks our hosts what other beliefs they've shed, and Dan admits he used to have some misguided views about the LGBTQ+ community. It's ok Dan, we forgive you. Tanjil calls in and asks about coming out as an atheist to family. Our hosts recommend kindness and discretion, and an audience member offers his perspective.Hal has an argument from incredulity that will shock and amaze. Jk, no it won't. Dan and Cody make short work of this, but Hal seems nice.Special guests Christy Powell and Jim Barrows join the conversation with some banter before we wrap up, thanks for watching!

Kevin Bolling faced the biggest challenge he's faced as Executive Director of the Secular Student Alliance. He had to manage the group through the pandemic and then resume regular support once the schools opened back up. SSA launched a massive effort to reach 1.4 million students. He will tell us how SSA did it and what is in store for the group. Lastly we take a look at a recent case where a professor settled a lawsuit while refusing to use the preferred pronouns of his students and how that case is really about him and others that attempt to needlessly erase LGBTQ+ people.Show NotesSubscribe to our free newsletterCheck out our merch01:35 Reaching Out To Secular Students09:17 Dealing With Christian Nationalism23:26 Doug's Letter To The Editor About Preferred PronounsSupport the show

Hellooo fellow combers of candor, it's Friday night, and this week ExXtian Erin will be joined by Neil the 604 Atheist, a familiar face from the ACA show Non-Prophets, and host of his very own Youtube channel featuring deconversion stories. It's a Canadian takeover, and no, we will not apologize. We will, however, feast upon poutine and be terrorized by geese. This week's Patron of the Week is Freethinker 215! Many thanks, but we're still waiting on cheques from freethinkers 1 thru 214.Patrick wants to talk about overpopulation and the tendency of religion to encourage procreation in the interest of making more Christians. Neil thinks that part of this might be a holdover from an age before modern medical care, when juvenile mortality was much higher. Both hosts touch on how education is the key to healthy skepticism, and agree that the younger generations seem to be breaking the cycle of indoctrination. Up next is Sven, who asks our hosts if they believe that a soul is intrinsic to the human experience. Neither Erin nor Neil have seen evidence of consciousness existing outside a physical body, so one might say this is a… no-brainer? I'll show myself out. We'll dabble in the potentiality that souls might be real and we haven't figured them out yet, but until we can demonstrate it, we're not convinced. Mark had a brush with death that reinforced his atheism. This is a great perspective from an atheist in his 70's, Mark's takeaway from almost dying is that kindness is paramount. Couldn't agree more ol' timer! We appreciate this nugget of wisdom! Finally we have some more international representation! Isaiah in South Korea missed the community that religion offers, until Jesus paid him a visit one lonely night. Our hosts quiz Isaiah on how Jesus changed his mind, but he's reticent to describe the experience. It's tough to parse your conversion without details! Spill that tea! That's a wrap folks, join us next week for a very special episode as Dan joins the Secular Student Alliance live at the University of Texas! This episode will be a fundraiser for SSA, and we'll be joined by some very special guests as we promote this great cause, don't miss it!

Because of his work with atheists, the Secular Student Alliance added him to their speaker's bureau. - www.jonathanweyer.com******************************************************************To listen to all our XZBN shows, with our compliments go to: https://www.spreaker.com/user/xzoneradiotv*** AND NOW ***The ‘X' Zone TV Channel on SimulTV - www.simultv.comThe ‘X' Chronicles Newspaper - www.xchroniclesnewspaper.com ******************************************************************

With her beautiful, bubbly and curious nature, Tanya is our Guest Host for the Spanish Edition of our Inspiring Humans Podcast series. For more info on Tanya read below: For this episode, we have Tanya Gonzalez. She was born and raised in Puerto Rico. She graduated from Margarita Janer Palacios High School in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, to pursue a Business Administration career. However, due to political and socio-economic issues in Puerto Rico, she had to move to Tennessee. While completing her Associate's degree online in Business Administration from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, she became an Assistant Store Manager for a Dollar General retail store. As she became more curious about the world, she decided to continue her studies at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) by successfully gaining a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Administration with a concentration in Homeland Security, and double minors in Asian Studies and Information Systems while graduating during the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2020. During those undergraduate years, she participated in multiple extracurricular activities, becoming Former Vice-President of La Comunidad, mentor for the Asian Student Association, Caribbean Student Association, Hispanic and Asian Heritage Month Committee while volunteering for LGBT+ events, Habitat for Humanity, Feed the Children, Tennessee Democratic Party, National Honor Society, Secular Student Alliance, Puerto Rico Rises, among many other entities. She is currently working as a Research Assistant for Dr. Donna Dopwell under the Social Work Department at MTSU while attending Graduate School, pursuing her Master's of International Affairs with the People's Republic of China as her region focused. Her short goal is to take all opportunities given, learn from others, develop multiple ideas for new projects, and graduate. At the same time, her long-term goal is to create connections between Asia and Puerto Rico in exchanging resources, leadership, business opportunities, and knowledge in rebuilding Puerto Rico from its natural disasters. Recently, she joined the Diaspora Committee for the Partido Independentista Puertorriqueño to enhance the possibilities and creation of a new nation with the independence for Puerto Rico under the PIP's Patria Nueva campaign. In addition, she joined the Seven Women NGO as an intern this summer, and she expects to learn a lot from it to continue helping others and empowering women worldwide. #PuertoRico #PatriaNueva #DPIP #InspiringHumansPodcast #TanyaGonzalez #StephanieWoollard

Back in my youth group days, terms like "atheism" and "humanism" were almost as scary as "new age" (I still don't know what that means). My understanding of atheism went back and forth between it being a luciferian coup meant to shatter the scriptural foundations of western society, and just another misguided faith perpetuated by vitriolic curmudgeons of weak moral fiber. Give me a break... I was a fourteen-year-old doofus.    This week, we're joined by Hemant Mehta, otherwise known as the Friendly Atheist. He is an accomplished author, blogger, podcaster, and activist. He is a content creator for Patheos, and served as a board member for the Secular Student Alliance and Foundation Beyond Belief. To put it lightly, Hemant is brilliant, and he's been a positive force in the ongoing struggle for tolerance and secular governance. It was a real treat to have a conversation with him, and we know you're going to enjoy it!   If you're enjoying the show, we would sure appreciate it if you'd share with a friend, and leave us a review on iTunes.
