Talking Through Mother We’re very late this time out AGAIN, but for this episode 81 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and LT talk through Season 6 Episode 14 of Fear the Walking Dead, titled Mother, which was written by Channing Powell & Alex Delyle and directed by Janice Cooke. I was just too soon! We get a great scene in the cold open. We see Teddy on death row, just as the apocalypse is starting. A fellow death row inmate gets lethal injection, and then starts a zombie attack in the prison. Teddy just thinks he had the right idea all along. He was just too soon. Old friends gone astray… Teddy takes Alicia and new arrival Dakota on a road trip and they meet up with old friends from the stadium: Douglas, his wife Viv, and Cole. Do you remember Cole? He was a character who had a thing for Victor, but they never consumated the relationship. Unlike Alicia and the gang, Cole, Viv, and Doug became bad guys. You know, I hadn’t thought of it when we recorded, but, for a time, Alicia, Nick, Luciana, and Victor had turned to be the bad guys for a short while before they ran into John Dorie and Morgan. This is, essentially, our way of attempting to channel our grief towards the loss of #JohnDorie, while reconciling our feelings towards Dakota (see: [Episode 132]). Both Dave & Rachael have some pretty big theories that involve #JohnDorieSr: But what do you think? Do you think we're onto something? Do you have theories of your own? Let's SQUAWK about it! There's no exclusive content for this particular episode, but you can download and watch the start of our Unedited Episode Recording of [Episode 131] to get the gist of our theories, way ahead of this livestream, to get your thoughts in order. Fear the Walking Dead started to claw its way back from a handful of bad episodes in the post-John Dorie era with “The Holding,” only to sink to new lows with “In Dreams.” Do people legitimately enjoy episodes of television that lean this heavily on dream sequences?

It was not easy to say goodbye to John Dorie, but we'll all continue to appreciate Garret Dillahunt's epic portrayal of this beloved “Fear the Walking Dead” character. This week on “The Danay Garcia Podcast,” I was thrilled to sit down Garret, my friend and FTWD colleague, to share stories from the show and explore the surprising and fascinating path that led to a diverse career full of unforgettable dramatic and comedic performances. A gracious and thoughtful artist and human with a life-long love of learning, Garret's robust body of work represents the boundaries he's pushed and the chances he's taken to grow professionally and personally. Garret shares with us his insights on the importance of risk taking, collaborating, and finding meaning in your work. Just as Garret has inspired me, I think he will inspire you too, as we ask…what are the seeds you will plant and grow in your life?

Talking Through The Door We’re late this time out, but for this episode 76 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and LT talk through the mid-season premiere The Door. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 8 was written by the showrunners Ian Goldberg & Andrew Chambliss and directed by co-executive producer Michael E. Satrazemis. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!! If you haven’t seen this episode of Fear the Walking Dead, stop now!!! Go watch it and then come back and listen to us! Unfortunately, we lost a fan favorite this week. John Dorie, who has been a favorite since Season 4, died in this episode. John Dorie was almost universally loved by fans, and Garret Dillahunt was also loved by fans for playing him. I personally believe this is one of those examples that you reap what you sow. This is speculation on my part, but I think the poor storylines of Season 4b and 5, as well as the fan reaction to Garret/John vs. the show, were the reasons why Garret left the show. It was probably a mutual decision. The showrunners probably realized that they needed to kill off a character, and when Garret got wind of it, he probably volunteered. Talking Through The Key For this episode 71 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and Brian talk through The Key. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 4 was written by David Johnson and directed by Ron Underwood. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 5 titled The Madman Across the Water. We had some issues this week when trying to record and Kyle couldn’t make it due to work and other issues so everyone recorded their own parts and Kyle edited together so it’s a little different but in the end it worked out fine. BRIAN’S NOTE: Actually, everything did NOT work out fine. Most of my segments were left out of the recording this week, due to a lack some confusion as far as how many segments I had recorded, although a few of them were read by Kyle. I had recorded a segment for each segment we have in the episode. My rating was 9.4/10, which I believe was one of the things left off. I’ll have to go back and update this after I do. John Dorie gets pushed to the limits! In this episode, John Dorie seems to be adjusting to this new Ginny controlled world and top cop of Lawton. That all changes with the murder of another citizen of Lawton and Sherif John is on the case. But we are not in a right vs wrong kind of world and in the end, Ginny is the one who calls the shots. This pushes him to his limits and we see again that there is no justice in the ZA. Morgan is looking for Grace and has Rufus the bloodhound on his side but he gets derailed by those two tagger boys. This does finally clarify that whatever that Key that Morgan has is going to be something important but to whom? Again, Fear the Walking Dead just keeps getting better and better and there is still so much more to come. Send in your feedback! Please leave your feedback! We will be covering Fear The Walking Dead in it’s entirety but if you have feedback about the Spinoff World Beyond we will cover that too, but the main focus will be with Fear! Talking Through End of the Line For this episode 67 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark, Kyle and I talk through End of the Line. Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 16 was written by the showrunners Ian Goldberg & Andrew Chambliss, and directed by Michael E. Satrazemis. We start with a discussion of the last episode… that also discusses this one… yet again This episode began with feedback on S5E15 Channel 5 from Todd and Aaron. Discussion about the season finale, in particular, begins at 13 minutes 27 seconds into the podcast. We got a wedding! There were some good points to celebrate in this season finale. We finally have our power couple, John Dorie and June, tie the knot this episode, in a very bittersweet scene at Humbug’s Gulch. Dwight was great this episode, and the walker roundup and ride down the rapids were pretty great to watch, but we had a lot of problems with this episode. Is it the end of the line for Morgan? With an ending that was similar to the final scenes of Madison in the Season 4 mid-season finale, but with a much different story told on Talking Dead. That time, they were very clear on Talking Dead that Madison was dead. Since I watched it a couple of nights early because I have AMC Premiere, I had to wonder if he was going to be dead, but it turned out that they didn’t say either way. Clearly, whether he makes it through Season 6 or not, there will be some to tell. Could the long thought dead Madison save him? Could it be that Dwight did not hallucinate Sherry, that she’s really alive and tried to make contact, and that she’s the one who will save him next season? Is there a dumpster for Morgan to crawl under? Is Ginny as glad as a grandma with a gravy boat? Virginia, the person not the state, has a thing with alliteration that I’m making fun of here and with my rating. That wasn’t the only Ginny thing that bothered me; I really had a problem with Ginny’s strategy of splitting apart the group, even as far as at the family level. If she’s really an efficiency expert, you would think she would realize that the best way for our people to be productive members of her society is for them to be content. There’s no way they will be content and productive if families have been split apart, whether they are families in the traditional sense, or in the chosen sense. She’s mean enough to keep Skidmark and Daniel apart? What good would that do? Send in your feedback! Please leave your feedback! We got a good dose of feedback again this week, so keep it comin’! Next time, we’ll cover any additional feedback we get for S5E16 End of the Line, and then talk through a more detailed analysis of the season 10 premiere of The Walking Dead, titled Lines We Cross. AMC Premiere made The Walking Dead season premiere available a week ahead of its airing on AMC this Sunday night. Because of that, we were all able to watch the season premiere several days early! What does that mean for you? Well, you’ll get an extra episode! We’re going to do something we’ve never done, a “first impressions” podcast of the season premiere! That will be TWDTT 99, and we intend on releasing that episode on Sunday night, right after Talking Dead, or soon after! Episode 100 will be the full TWDTT episode that will cover your feedback and a more detailed analysis from us. Ratings are up Ratings for S5E16 End of the Line were up from last week’s episode, S5E15 Channel 5. This week, Fear was able to get a 0.41 in the 18-49 demographic, with 1.513 million viewers, up from 0.35 and 1.440 million viewers. We could still use your help! This season, collecting the feedback has been challenging, and we could use your help. Our availability is limited for each of us on Tuesdays when the bulk of the feedback comes in. We have to grab it from the various sources, including the Facebook group, the feedback form, email, and voice mail; put it into a Google doc; separate it into the appropriate sections of the podcast: Ratings, sauces, and feedback; and then fix things like spelling mistakes, grammar, and format, and then divide it by who will read it. If you are available most Tuesdays that we have an episode to record and want to help the podcast out, please drop us a line, either using the feedback form, the Facebook group, or if you are friends with us on Facebook, over Messenger. We’ll work out something if you can, like comping you into the Patreon, assuming you can do that. Subscribe and Support! Discussion on this week’s episode starts at 38 minutes and 30 seconds into the podcast. A lot of people didn’t like this episode… but we did! It’s rare when we like an episode more than all of our listeners, but that was true for The Little Prince this week. For me, I guess it was because our main characters continue having hope, despite insurmountable odds. That’s the only thing I can think of, but I guess it was hopeful when I needed it to be. In other news, that comic book thing happened… Mark and I talk a bit about that news that was a rumor last week, that ended up being the truth. The Walking Dead comic bookended this week, and we talk a little about it, without giving away any spoilers. Ratings went to an all-time low for the show this week… This week, FTWD ratings sunk to a new low in the 18-49 demographic. S5E6 The Little Prince got a 0.42 in the 18-49 demographic with 1.488 million viewers, down from the last week‘s 0.46 and 1.708 million viewers. Unfortunately, this is an all-time low in ratings and viewers for the show. This is not a good trend to go. Again, there was no Talking Dead this week so no ratings for it. That’s it for The Little Prince! The Little Prince wasn’t a spectacular episode, but we loved it still, although maybe it was a small love and not a Love or a LOVE. Talking Through Humbug’s Gulch On this episode 54 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and Kyle are joined again by our special guest co-host Mark from The Walking Dead Talk Through, as we talk through Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 3, which is titled, Humbug’s Gulch. This was written by Ashley Cardiff, her first episode on this show, and directed by Colman Domingo, who plays Strand on the show, and is making his second stint as a director on this show. He previously directed S4E12 Weak. We have more feedback for last week’s episode… S5E3 coverage starts at 27:30… Before we get into this week’s episode, we have to share more feedback we received for last week’s episode, S5E2 The Hurt That Will Happen. Discussion on this week’s episode starts at 27 minutes and 30 seconds into the podcast. Spaghetti western walkers!!! We see this episode lean into the backstory of John, as a former trick shooter at a western theme park. The vibe of this episode, especially the music and look, was reminiscent of the old spaghetti westerns of the 1960s. I thought it perfectly fit in with the Texas motif, and I enjoyed it. Some found the San Antonio Split beyond their suspension of disbelief, but I thought they sold it well by saying it was only the second time John had been able to successfully split a bullet to two targets. Crazy, yes, but I bought it. Dwight!?!? We had already been told by the showrunners that Dwight was going to be crossing over to Fear from the main show, and I was skeptical as to the believability of this crossover, and not sure I wanted him on the show. Now that it’s upon us, I thought it was very well done. I wasn’t always receptive to Dwight’s character and story, but I found myself very drawn to his character’s story, heartbroken that he hadn’t found Sherry yet and how that had led to desperation and anguish. Having him found by John and June, the two characters who could best sympathize with his story were appropriate and very fitting. And he fits! He’s a character that has a lot to atone to and is on his own redemption arc. He’s also a character that needs the group’s help. So, if he can find Sherry, and help others, he’s a perfect fit for this completely different show from two years ago. A paper trail… Some people complained about the clues Sherry left behind for Dwight. There was some confusion as far as why he thought the car John and June were driving was the same car that he was looking for that Sherry had been driving, and where the registration was. If you recall way back in Season 7 of The Walking Dead, Sherry left Dwight a note that told him where she was going, a cottage they stayed before the apocalypse. When he left at the end of S8E16, he went there and found another note for him that said Honeymoon. We can assume that there was a note for him there, and then another, and probably another. Whether it was in her previous car or where she was staying, Sherry took another car and left behind the registration with another note on the back. Apparently, this car had the same year, make, model and color of the car on the registration, but after comparing the registration VIN with the VIN on the car itself, John was able to determine this was not the correct vehicle, despite matching otherwise. Those kids!!! It seems the showrunners are using deceptive kids as a plot point again this season. That feels a little overused. So, are we correct to assume that the kids are responsible for the walkers tied up by their guts? What about the severed zombie heads? Did they do those,

This week we get what we assume will be Gimple's pièce de résistance of this season - a semi-bottle episode with a single focus on John Dorie and Naomi's blossoming relationship and questionable end. Of what we know, The Walking Dead tends to do these pretty well, with enjoyable episodes from the past like "The Grove" and "Clear." Was Fear The Walking Dead able to nail this signature style as well? We think so, but a lot of the fans do not. We chat about all this and recap the latest episode of FEAR on this episode of the Fear The Walking Dead Podcast by Fandom Found!
