The consummate king of Christian cringe is back, and he's curated a list of his favorite nightmare clips of 2021! Almost all of our guests have mentioned that their favorite Instagram/Twitter account is Christian Nightmares, and for good reason. He continually shines a light on the funniest, scariest, and most shocking actions, proclamations, and admissions from a colorful cast of religious leaders. Whether they're pastoring a megachurch, holding public office, or simply berating bikini-clad teens at the beach, Christian Nightmares documents the insanity that is the American church. On top of that, he has a fun music project called "The Christian Nightmares Tribulation Band," which you can find on bandcamp and youtube!    Below you'll find a list of links CN was nice enough to put together so that you, the listener, can watch the videos we discuss play and discuss in throughout the episode:   1) The January 6th Capitol siege in general and the prayer in the House chambers specifically:   "Jesus Christ, we invoke your name!" During the Capitol siege on January 6th, the QAnon Shaman and other Christian terrorists prayed inside the House chambers. https://twitter.com/ChristnNitemare/status/1350887413548244997   2) Mike Lindell: So many videos about this guy from his election fraud claims and beyond... But maybe we play this clip next and then discuss the rest:   During a service last night at Eagle Mountain International Church, MyPillow guy Mike Lindell said that the rioters who stormed the Capitol Building were "100% not Trump supporters" and that "it was a set up." https://www.instagram.com/p/CJwwGefFyf1/   3) Pastor Hank Kunneman: Like so many other evangelical "prophets," he thought Trump would be returned to office and of course was very anti-mask/vaccine:   Pastor Hank Kunneman sings 'Something is about to bust!' https://www.instagram.com/p/CJ6b_0RlJ8E/    During a service this past Sunday, pastor Hank Kunneman mocked "Bidenittes" and people who wear masks. Then he angrily yelled, "God made man and woman male and female!" and said, "I'm not a bigot, I'm telling you the truth." https://www.instagram.com/p/COQcRF9ji7B/   4) Sean Feucht super-spreader event, etc.   Trump's pal Sean Feucht talks about “the only mandate that matters” https://twitter.com/ChristnNitemare/status/1447645925254606855   5) Asshole pastor Greg Locke:   During a sermon yesterday, pastor Greg Locke told his congregation, “Don't believe this Delta variant nonsense!” and said if anyone shows up to his church wearing a mask, he'll ask them to leave. https://www.instagram.com/p/CRyu3gDDk8P/   6) Sexist pastor Stewart-Allen Clark   Sexist pastor Stewart-Allen Clark makes offensive "jokes," says married women no longer have all the rights over their bodies and suggests that men have the right to have sex with their wives even when their wives aren't in the mood... https://www.instagram.com/p/CL5JpsUlycu/   Sexist and homophobic pastor says not "every woman can be the epic trophy wife of all time like Melania Trump" but "you don't need to look like a butch either!" https://www.instagram.com/p/CL5Br-_lvaQ/   7) “Apostle” Kathryn Krick...   “Apostle” Kathryn Krick “casts out demons” in the name of Jesus…  https://www.instagram.com/p/CP-8t8eDGwp/   8) Pastor Robert Jeffress...   During a recent appearance on The Jim Bakker Show, megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress says Christians are going to work in Heaven and they'll enjoy it because there won't be any “government regulations.” https://www.instagram.com/p/CMIIDJ9Fi2E/   9) The great Andre Antunes...   "Hair grow!" Another amazing heavy metal remix of Kenneth Copeland by Andre Antunes... https://twitter.com/ChristnNitemare/status/1352309347469185029     Last, but not least, be sure to visit our beloved sponsor Captain Cecil's Coffee for excellent single-source blends that are sure to brighten your holiday season! Cognitive behavioral therapy is a proven treatment for a wide range of mental health conditions and emotional struggles, but many times is not used for treating schizophrenia. Schizophrenia's symptoms of hallucinations and psychosis are assumed to be too complex for this type of therapy.  Host Rachel Star Withers, a diagnosed schizophrenic, and co-host Gabe Howard, explore the types of CBT that best work for schizophrenia. Rachel breaks down her “Monster Technique” that she uses daily to help her deal with her visual hallucinations. Guest Cornelia Larsson, licensed psychologist and psychotherapist, joins to talk in-depth about CBT techniques for dealing with audio hallucinations like hearing voices. To learn more -- or read the transcript -- please visit the official episode page here. Guest Bio Dr. Cornelia Larsson is a licensed clinical psychologist and psychotherapist who spent most of her career working in Swedish psychiatric clinics. Currently, she's a doctoral student working toward her PhD by researching psychological treatments for psychosis, and is a course coordinator in psychotherapist education at Centre for Psychiatry Research at Karolinska Institutet & Region Stockholm. She's also a director of studies for the psychologists at the South-West Psychiatric Clinic in Region Stockholm and gives lectures mainly on cognitive behavior therapy and psychosis. Although Larsson has worked with individuals living with all sorts of psychiatric diagnoses during her career, her main focus the last 10 years have been on individuals living with psychosis and schizophrenia. Clinically, she has taken a special interest in helping individuals with distressing voices, who engage in frequent self-harm and suicide attempts, to change their relationships to their voices and thereby regain hope and quality of life. Inside Schizophrenia Podcast Host Rachel Star Withers creates videos documenting her schizophrenia, ways to manage and let others like her know they are not alone and can still live an amazing life. She has written Lil Broken Star: Understanding Schizophrenia for Kids and a tool for schizophrenics, To See in the Dark: Hallucination and Delusion Journal. Fun Fact: She has wrestled alligators. “One of the reasons I named my book Mental Illness is an Asshole is because…it is…It's so mean and cruel; not only does it make you hate yourself, but it makes all the people that you love hate you too.” Press play for powerful insight into bipolar and anxiety disorders, and learn: How memory is affected by the manic state of bipolar disorder How anxiety and depression encourages abusive and negative perceptions by the experiencer The similarities and differences in the way bipolar disorder manifests in different people When and how to seek help for someone who may be suicidal or in a mental health crisis Author, speaker, and award-winning podcast host, Gabe Howard, was diagnosed with bipolar and anxiety disorders in 2003. At the time, weighing the pros and cons of suicide was a daily activity, and life existed in a constant state of vacillation, from the highest highs to the lowest lows. Howard lost friends and jobs, and his family members were mad at him. On top of it all, he was confused. Confused as to what was wrong with him, confused as to why he would do and say certain things, and confused as to why he had trouble even remembering things.   Howard gives listeners insight into his own experience with bipolar disorder, illustrating the delusions that would convince him of the worst-case scenarios in almost all aspects of life. He talks about his journey through the depths of this illness, to the beginning of wellness, to where he is today. He also shares advice for loved ones of someone who may be suffering from bipolar disorder or is showing signs of suicidal ideation. One of the most important things to remember is that understanding the illness isn't necessary before seeking help. As soon as there is suspicion, take action. “So often, we wait until there is a crisis or until it gets really, really bad before we do any sort of intervention, and that makes it so much more difficult than if you caught it more towards the beginning,” says Howard. Check out Howard's book, Mental Illness is an Asshole, and listen to Inside Mental Health: A Psych Central Podcast. Tune in and visit https://www.gabehoward.com/ to learn more. Are we using the wrong criteria to diagnose mental illness? The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is the gold standard used by healthcare professionals as the authoritative guide to diagnose mental health conditions. But is it the best tool for clinicians to use? Were you even aware there are other options?  Today's guest, Dr. Margaret Chisolm, a professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, tells us all about the “Perspectives Approach,” a method of evaluating a patient using multiple perspectives of their lives and experiences.  This method has existed for over 40 years and is taught and researched at the world-renowned Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Chisholm will explain how this method is superior, and some limitations and flaws of the DSM.  To read the transcript -- or learn more -- please visits the official episode page here. Ah...the summer of 1995. When Hugh Grant's hair was still floppy, the world was mere moments away from making Divine Brown a household name, Tom Arnold was still considered funny enough to be cast in something, and a wee BU School of Performing Arts '83 graduate was starring in her first Hollywood romantic comedy, the subject of our final BU ALUMS theme, Nine Months. Highlighting the sheer beauty of a very 90s (and oddly homosexual-free) San Francisco, this film follows couple Samuel and Rebecca as they find out they are unexpectedly going to be parents. Samuel, brought to life by the over-the-top performance of Hugh Grant, is a commitment-phobic, selfish child psychologist with a Peter Pan-complex who, ironically, hates kids, and obviously cannot provide his girlfriend Rebecca, played by goddess Julianne Moore, the support she needs as a soon-to-be mother. She finds this support and friendship with new friends Marty and Gail Dwyer (played by an unbearable Tom Arnold and an as-always delightful Joan Cusack), while Samuel seeks advice and comfort from fellow playboy and friend, Sean Fletcher (a role Jeff Goldblum excels at). We've got SOME THOUGHTS on this movie, and while it might be a glorious example of redhead representation (which our podcaster Ashley is always in great support of) it's...not really great anywhere else. OH, did we mention Robin Williams is also in this film? Who needs an enema? No, uh, a pedicure? No wait, an epitaph? IT'S EPIDURAL, ASSHOLE, FOR OUR LAST FILM FROM BU ALUMS!
