Talking Through The Beginning We’re late this time out AGAIN, but for this episode 83 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and LT talk through Season 6 Episode 16 of Fear the Walking Dead, the season finale, titled The Beginning, which was written by co-showrunners Ian Goldberg & Andrew Chambliss and directed by co-executive producer Michael E. Satrazemis. This was mostly a positively received season finale, but the episode had one flaw… We ended up recording the episode over two nights. We started late on Wednesday night, so we finished it on Thursday night. During the two recordings, I started thinking about what I thought didn’t make sense, so I watched the episode a second time and did a detailed analysis of how the timeline of the end of S6E15 USS Pennsylvania fits with this episode. The answer: For the most part, it doesn’t. There are several examples where either not enough time has passed, or too much time has passed, and there are also some distance issues that aren’t related to where the warheads landed. You’ll have to listen to the podcast to get more information. There were a lot of good things about the finale though… We thought that, although creepy, the writers got Teddy’s true motives and actions right on the money, and the scene with Teddy, Dakota, JD Sr and June, we enjoyed Strand (how it was written anyway), Dwight and Sherry, Daniel figuring out Rollie was the mole, and Morgan and Grace finally sharing their feelings once and for all were all highlights. Also, with a radioactive, Chernobyl-like Texas, the showrunners have laid out for what looks like what could be an interesting Season 7. We didn’t have the ratings for S6E15 USS Pennsylvania when we recorded last week but we posted them on the blog post. We’ll post them again. Last week, the episode received an all-time low of 0.17 in the 18-49 demographic, with 872,000 viewers, down from the S6E14 Mother’s 0.23 and 940,000 viewers, which was the all-time viewers’ low at the time. The season finale got a 0.20 in the 18-49 demographic but was up in total viewers with 1.045 million viewers. I speculated that it was because the episode did better with 25-54 and 50+ viewers, but I didn’t have the ratings for those demos. Unfortunately, I did not have any ratings information for Talking Dead, though it returned for the season finale. We’ll be off until August, unless we have something good to talk about… LT and I will be taking a hiatus over the rest of June, July, and the first three weeks of August, unless we have something really good to talk about! We think that the web series Dead in the Water will be released during the hiatus, plus there are potential Comic-Con trailers, news, etc. If something good comes up, we’ll come back with a shorter episode. Otherwise, expect us back as The Walking Dead Talk Through soon after The Walking Dead returns Sunday, August 22, 2021. We're late this time out AGAIN for the finale, sorry all, but for this episode 83 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and LT talk through Fear the Walking Dead: Season 6 Episode 16, titled The Beginning, which was written by the co-showrunners Ian Goldberg & Andrew Chambliss and directed by co-executive producer Michael E. Talking Through USS Pennsylvania We’re very late this time out AGAIN, but for this episode 82 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and LT talk through Season 6 Episode 15 of Fear the Walking Dead, titled USS Pennsylvania, which was written by Nazrin Choudhury & Nick Bernardone and directed by Heather Cappiello. This was was a mixed review, but not so mixed… We were split with this episode. LT gave it a 5, while Brian gave it an 8. Neither of them thought it was the worst episode, but clearly, Brian liked it more. Listener reactions were similar to LT’s than Brian’s. Just go? And a strange use of resources… One thing that we all had a problem with was Morgan telling Teddy and Riley to go. That just seemed dumb for everyone. Also, it seemed weird that everyone went to the sub, but they weren’t used very well. Only Strand and Morgan go forward. Why were the rest of them there? What did they do? I was just too soon! We get a great scene in the cold open. We see Teddy on death row, just as the apocalypse is starting. A fellow death row inmate gets lethal injection, and then starts a zombie attack in the prison. Teddy just thinks he had the right idea all along. He was just too soon. Old friends gone astray… Teddy takes Alicia and new arrival Dakota on a road trip and they meet up with old friends from the stadium: Douglas, his wife Viv, and Cole. Do you remember Cole? He was a character who had a thing for Victor, but they never consumated the relationship. Unlike Alicia and the gang, Cole, Viv, and Doug became bad guys. You know, I hadn’t thought of it when we recorded, but, for a time, Alicia, Nick, Luciana, and Victor had turned to be the bad guys for a short while before they ran into John Dorie and Morgan. For this episode 77 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and LT talk through the Fear the Walking Dead, Season 6 Episode 9, titled Things Left to Do. It was written by Nick Bernardone and directed by co-executive producer Michael E. Satrazemis. In this episode, another character dies, though I am guessing most won't be sad they're gone.
For this episode 76 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and LT talk through the midseason premiere of Fear the Walking Dead, Season 6 Episode 8, titled The Door. If you haven’t seen this episode of Fear the Walking Dead, stop now!!! Go watch it and then come back and listen to us! Unfortunately, we lost a fan favorite this week. John Dorie, who has been a favorite since Season 4, died in this episode. John Dorie was almost universally loved by fans, and Garret Dillahunt was also loved by fans for playing him. I personally believe this is one of those examples that you reap what you sow. This is speculation on my part, but I think the poor storylines of Season 4b and 5, as well as the fan reaction to Garret/John vs. the show, were the reasons why Garret left the show. It was probably a mutual decision. The showrunners probably realized that they needed to kill off a character, and when Garret got wind of it, he probably volunteered. For this episode 75 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and Brian talk through The Finale of World Beyond S1E9 The Deepest Cut and S1E10 In This Life. We had some recording issues this week so this episode may sound a little different.
Talking Through World Beyond Season Finale For this episode 75 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and Brian talk through the Season Finale of World Beyond. We had some scheduling and recording issues this week so I had to make some creative editing so it will sound a little different then what you are used to. A World Beyond felt more like a World Apart. This was the end of Season 1 of the TWD spinoff World Beyond. And, well it felt like as viewers, it was more less Walking Dead and more Scooby-Doo. With what we have seen in this universe these kids just didn’t seem really in danger or surviving but more like caught in the drama of being….. Dramatic. We do get CRM’s master plan regarding Hope and why Lieutenant Colonel Kublek gave the map to Hope and Iris to find their dad but again why was it necessary to wipe out the entirety of the Campus Colony? We also get some insight with their Dad and his distrust about the Military arm of the Civic Republic, Felix has a boyfriend, Will, that we never knew about and they reunite in the end, and Elton finds Percy, and later they find Silas who takes one for the team. Overall it was interesting and some episodes were better than others but overall we don’t understand what the whole point is. Guess we will find out in Season 2. Ratings are down The World Beyond Finale S1E9-10 got a 0.15 in the 18-49 demographic with 618,000 thousand viewers. We had a Talking Dead, but only on the AMC apps and it didn’t even make the top 150. Subscribe and Support! Don’t forget that we have our Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/WalkingDeadTalkThrough! For this episode 74 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and Brian talk through Damage From the Inside. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 7 was written by Jacob Pinion and directed by Tawnia McKiernan. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 8 titled The Sky Is a Graveyard.
Talking Through Damage From the Inside For this episode 74 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and Brian talk through the Mid-Season Finale Damage From the Inside. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 7 was written by Jacob Pinion and directed by Tawnia McKiernan. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 8 titled The Sky Is a Graveyard. A Taxidermy Nightmare… well, not really. So we get from the start Dakota is being escorted to safety by Strand and his Rangers with one of them looking like Virginia’s Doppelgänger. We don’t know if that was on purpose, or if maybe this actor is Colby Minifie’s stunt double. But in any case, something happens and Strand and Ranger Samuels are pulled away only to come back and everyone is dead and Dakota is missing. Cue, Alicia and Charlie who are just sitting on some outpost and Strand calling for them to help find the missing girl. Then things get strange but visually was fun to see. The creepy hunting lodge, stuffed animals, and a creepy lone survivor who likes to play dress-up with walkers as a way to keep the living away. This wasn’t the best episode this season and finally getting Alicia some screen time was a welcome sign but seemed a wasted opportunity by the showrunners. For a Mid-Season Finale is really lacked some punch and felt like more of a weak attempt at a B-Horror film. We did get to see Alicia finally reunite with Morgan which was a really great scene. Strand is still sticking to his conman ways and I guess we did get some sort of payoff with the whereabouts of Grace. In the end, with knowing that Covid interrupted their plans and the real Mid-Season finale wasn’t finished we just hope the back half, when it returns, pays off. Send in your feedback! Please leave your feedback! We will be covering the two hour finale of The Walking Dead World Beyond in it’s entirety now that Fear is on hiatius but if you have feedback about Fear’s Mid-Season finale we will cover that too! Talking Through Bury Her Next to Jasper’s Leg For this episode 73 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and Brian talk through Bury Her Next to Jasper’s Leg. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 6 was written by Alex Delyle and directed by Sharat Raju. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 7 titled Truth or Dare. June you had your chance and you didn’t take it! AARGH! Wow, in the episode it looked like the tides would turn for our group but kind of was surprised on June’s decision. I’m not sure if it was a power move or a stupid one and seemed to put a wedge between her and John in the end. We are reunited with Luciana and while its good to see her alive and working Tank Town but the apparent sabotage by The End is the Beginning people really looks like a death throw to Ginny and the rest of the settlements. No Oil, No Life! I can only imaging this is going to make everyone’s relationship on both sides more tense. This season so far has been getting better and better so I just hope that continues. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 5 was written by Ashley Cardiff and directed by Michael E. Satrazemis. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 6 titled Shadow Puppets. Kyle fixes his mistake and we included Brian’s Ratings, Sauces for last episode of The Key and hopefully can get him out of the doghouse Sherry is not so sweet but we don’t blame her after all she’s been through! In this episode, we see Dwight and Sherry together again but that doesn’t last so long. Sherry has been with a mask-wearing group of Ginny misfits with plans to try and rid the apocalypse of her but again Morgan seems to come out of nowhere to spread his word of a place where they all can be safe… again lol. We do get some insight on how bad Negan’s scars are on our crossover characters and I really did enjoy seeing that even if it was brief. In the end, Dwight sides with Morgan and AL and Sherry decides that she’s just not ready to walk away from her new friend’s plans. Send in your feedback! Please leave your feedback! Kyle, LT and Brian talk through Fear the Walking Dead S6E4, titled The Key. They also discuss The Walking Dead: World Beyond S1E5 The Madman Across the Water. We had some issues recording together so this episode is a little different but still a fun show
Talking Through The Key For this episode 71 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and Brian talk through The Key. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 4 was written by David Johnson and directed by Ron Underwood. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 5 titled The Madman Across the Water. We had some issues this week when trying to record and Kyle couldn’t make it due to work and other issues so everyone recorded their own parts and Kyle edited together so it’s a little different but in the end it worked out fine. BRIAN’S NOTE: Actually, everything did NOT work out fine. Most of my segments were left out of the recording this week, due to a lack some confusion as far as how many segments I had recorded, although a few of them were read by Kyle. I had recorded a segment for each segment we have in the episode. My rating was 9.4/10, which I believe was one of the things left off. I’ll have to go back and update this after I do. John Dorie gets pushed to the limits! In this episode, John Dorie seems to be adjusting to this new Ginny controlled world and top cop of Lawton. That all changes with the murder of another citizen of Lawton and Sherif John is on the case. But we are not in a right vs wrong kind of world and in the end, Ginny is the one who calls the shots. This pushes him to his limits and we see again that there is no justice in the ZA. Morgan is looking for Grace and has Rufus the bloodhound on his side but he gets derailed by those two tagger boys. This does finally clarify that whatever that Key that Morgan has is going to be something important but to whom? Again, Fear the Walking Dead just keeps getting better and better and there is still so much more to come. Send in your feedback! Please leave your feedback! We will be covering Fear The Walking Dead in it’s entirety but if you have feedback about the Spinoff World Beyond we will cover that too, but the main focus will be with Fear! Kyle, LT, and Brian talk through Fear the Walking Dead S6E3, titled Alaska & TWD: World Beyond S1E4 The Wrong End of a Telescope.
Talking Through Alaska For this episode 70 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and Brian talk through Alaska. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 3 was written by Mallory Westfall, and directorial return of Colman Domingo. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 4 titled The Wrong End of a Telescope. AL and Dwight go for a walk and find love! In this episode, we are paired with Al and Dwight on one of Ginny’s errands roaming around who knows where to document the fall of civilization. Not that we don’t already know that most didn’t survive, but I guess that doesn’t stop Ginny’s giving out some ZA busy work. This was a good episode focused on Al and Dwight’s budding friendship and their struggles with this new reality that our group has been in since the Ginny takeover. AL is still stalking Isabelle on the walkie that leads them to some office dwellers who seem to not have moved on outside of their workplace. In any case, we get some highs and lows but overall a really good character-driven episode, again. Fear is running on all cylinders and this is a great thing this season. Oh, and we get a surprise (well did we not already know this was going to happen, at some point?) at the end that I know for one, got me a little misty-eyed. Send in your feedback! Talking Through Welcome to the Club For this episode 69 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and Brian talk through Welcome to the Club. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 2 was written by Nazrin Choudhury, and directed by none other than Lennie James. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 3 titled The Tyger and the Lamb. Strand and Alicia get put in a sticky situation! In this episode, we get Alicia and Strand and Ginny enacting some punishment for their defiance towards one of her Rangers. Only to be sent on a mission… well punishment… to clean out some sticky walkers from a warehouse that Ginny has some interest in. Dear old Charlie returns; Kyle still does not like her but it’s nice seeing some of the group being united after all this time. Daniel shows up cutting Ginny’s hair but after some pleas from Alicia and Strand, it would seem he’s suffered some mental damage at the hands of Ginny’s men. (Yeah Right!) It was a good episode and from the feedback, our listeners enjoyed it as much as we did, well mostly all our listeners. It’s nice seeing the show come back to elements of what we loved about this show from past seasons. Show us the characters we love and do it in a character-driven way. This season does seem to have some promise and that makes us happy. Send in your feedback! Please leave your feedback! We will be covering Fear The Walking Dead in it’s entirety but if you have feedback about the Spinoff World Beyond we will cover that too, but the main focus will be with Fear! Next time, we’ll cover feedback we get for S6E3 Alaska, and then briefly talk through any feedback for The Walking Dead: World Beyond S1E4, titled The Wrong End of a Telescope. Brian, Kyle, and LT talk through Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 1, the season premiere, titled The End is the Beginning. This episode was written by Andrew Chambliss & Ian Goldberg, and directed by Michael E. Satrazemis.
Talking Through The End is the Beginning Fear’s back! For this episode 68 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and I talk through The End is the Beginning. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 1 was written by the showrunners Ian Goldberg & Andrew Chambliss, and directed by Michael E. Satrazemis. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 2 titled The Blaze of Gory. Morgan is Alive! This episode begins with some dudes spraying graffiti, a dude with a dog who likes to chop off heads, with a call from Ginny who is still looking for Morgan, dead or alive. So it’s a relief (not that all of us didn’t expect it) that Morgan, while in bad shape, is still alive and moseying around Texas. He has some new digs in a water tower and met a new friend but Ginny is looking for him and sent a head collecting bounty hunter with a dog after him. It sets the stage for a very western-style season that we are very looking forward to. A great start but there were some missteps. We enjoyed the episode as a whole but there were some silly things that we are all too accustomed to with Fear. LT really made the point that the show is called The Walking Dead so if our group ever has wheels there always something that forces them back on their feet. But if you have a Truck! A four-wheeling behemoth that a few fallen trees and clearly a way to drive around it makes you have to abandon all hope and have to hoof it the rest of the way? I mean, really? Some of our listeners didn’t like the fact that Emile the bounty hunter is only going to be in this first episode and he really did have more to his story that would have been interesting to see. But oh well at least Morgan is still alive. Send in your feedback! Please leave your feedback! Brian & Kyle discuss the upcoming season 10 finale (or at least it used to be) of The Walking Dead, and the new seasons of Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
We have returned and we have News! We are finally back! For episode 116 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and Kyle discuss all things new coming to The Walking Dead Universe. There has been a lot of news since everything shut down back in March and we touch on a few of them. Sherry joins Dwight on Fear, The new spinoff The World Beyond, and some Andrew Lincoln gossip about if he’s returning to the television show. We are excited to be coming back and to discuss the return of our favorite series, finally. First, some housekeeping… We have to first make an announcement. Mark has left The Walking Dead Talk Through podcast and the Talk Through Media Network and is no longer affiliated with this podcast. He has started up his own network and we wish him well in his future endeavors. We Need Your Help! With that announcement out of the way, Brian and I are going to have our hands full with the return of Fear and The World Beyond all happening within The Walking Dead Universe at the same time as well as season 3 of Star Trek Discovery, as Brian also hosts The Star Trek Discovery Podcast. We just don’t have time to cover everything as we would normally do. We are asking any of our listeners if you would like to co-host with Kyle on some or all of the episodes for Fear the Walking Dead. We decided at this time we will not cover the spinoff The World Beyond as there is just not enough manpower to handle everything all at the same time, though we may cover it in passing. Send in your feedback! We finally know when the next episode will be and it will be on October 4th at 9/8 central with the premiere of The Walking Dead: The World Beyond at 10/9 central. Fear is coming back the next week on October 11th at 9/8 central. So get ready with that feedback. You can also send us an email to walkingdead@talkthroughmedia.com or call our new voicemail at 216-232-6146.
